    Thanks for the info. I adjusted my 75 sportster the same way and seems a fairly straight forward process. I even tried adjusting as described in the manual but my clutch just wont work. I wound the adjuster screw in until it seated and wound it back 1/4 turn and locked it off. I adjusted the cable with a little slack not tight so the ball bearings are correctly seated. Doesn't matter how many ways I try my clutch just wont disengage like it should when I pull the lever. Any suggestions on what I should be looking for ?

      @TatroMachine  2 года назад +1

      try adjusting it at an 1/8 of a turn. the inner clutch plate that has the studs on it needs to be flat and not over torqued. make sure that you use the stock large diameter spacers that go onto the studs on the plate. those thin ass replacement spacers are junk and don't hold the outher pressure plate flat and square.

      @@TatroMachine Thanks for that I really appreciate your comments and videos. I found that if I wind the adjuster screw in about 1.5-2.0 turns there is a sweet spot that the clutch disengages when I pull the lever. I know that’s not how it should be but could that indicate what the problem is before I start buying spacers and new plates?

      no, take it apart and see what is wrong. broken cases are very expensive to fix, small parts are not.

    Hi , I have a 1976 bicentennial ironhead, the clutch basket is oval for this reason I have to leave the chain sluggish and it makes noise. Can you tell me if I can solve it by buying a used clutch basket? or are they all oval after a few years? Thank you

    keep up the good work great source of info...any idea on this my 72 xlch1000 jack it up turn rear wheel can select all gears feels smooth no binding,peddle travel seems a bit far between gears but managable.but start the bike select 1st take off an suddenly peddle travels huge between gears they still select but can not get gear without lifting your whole leg as they about 4inches travel between each one.turn it off an peddle travels back to managable,iv adjusted clutch numerous times (no slip or drag) and the gear linkage distance (fitted with forwards) makes no difference..gear box prob or clutch any1 ??

    I know Keenan is busy moving so I'll ask everyone this question.
    With this style clutch, If the adjustment screw and nut were removed all the way from the primary cover ( while the cover is attached to the engine) is it possible for the bearings to fall out of the ramp assembly ? It they can fall out, is it a certainty that they would fall out ? Is it possible that maybe they wouldn't fall out if the adjustment screw and nut were completely backed out of the primary cover ?
    Im sure its easy to guess why im asking this question. I did manage to get the adjustment screw and nut reinstalled. Clutch releases and engages by squeezing the clutch hand lever. It just dont feel like it seems it should.

      maybe but not likely. if you start pulling on the lever than you might have some issues.

    Welding on the case without first heating it up in a oven to get rid of the oils and junk the case has isn't the right way to weld on that case. Weld won't last . and cracking a customer's case has to be the worst . and throwing clutch parts on metal and installing parts that have broken studs to go into a clutch . if this was done to my bike I think u would be paying a shop that takes pride in there work instead of this getto type work..

    • @TatroMachine
      @TatroMachine  4 года назад +8

      when you are use to welding crap you get very good at it. if these welds were so bad then how come they looked so good after they were cleaned up. if you want the white glove treatment than go to harley and see what they do for you.
