REASON 1: THE BEZEL Most people who buy a GMT-Master I or II choose the Pepsi. Why? Well, for that, we have to take a short trip back into collection’s history. The first GMT-Master was released in 1955. It bears the reference number 6542. Rolex had already conquered the sea with the Submariner and mountaintops with the Explorer, so it was only a matter of time before they took to the skies. There was no shortage of pilot’s watches at the time, but Pan Am needed a watch for its pilots that could display more than one time zone simultaneously. Rolex heeded the call and delivered. The resulting timepiece had an additional hour hand for tracking the time in another time zone and a two-tone red and blue bezel inspired by the colors of Pan American Airways.
REASON 2: THE DIAL The latest Root Beer’s dial has 18-karat yellow gold hour markers and hands. Even the GMT-Master II inscription at 6 o’clock is gold. Overall, the look reminds me of the gilt dials found on vintage Rolexes. This makes the reference 126711CHNR special among other Rolex GMTs, as they feature white gold markers and hands. More importantly, the combination of gold markers and hands, a black and brown bezel, and a two-tone stainless steel and rose gold bracelet lends the reference 126711CHNR a very warm feel.
Reason 3: THE BRACELET The ref. 126715CHNR’s bracelet has center links in polished 18-karat Everose gold and outer links in satin-brushed stainless steel with polished edges. It is also fitted with the Easylink rapid extension system that enables the wearer to increase the bracelet length by approximately 5 mm, providing additional comfort. However, this bracelet is an absolute no-go for certain people since they had expected it to come on a Jubilee (and not an Oyster) bracelet. In fact, some argue that this Root Beer model would be an incredible-if not perfect-watch if it were on a Jubilee bracelet. This just goes to show how greatly a watch’s individual features and components can influence how the watch as a whole is perceived.

I’ve owned a batgirl, Batman and Pepsi. And hands down my favorite watch is my 2 tone rootbeer. Wouldn’t trade it for any other Rolex model. Totally I’m love.

IMO the root beer is the sleeper hit of the GMT range. I'm not much of a Jubilee fan, so I'm happy it's on an Oyster. I'll never forget the day I got "the call" for mine!

Got mine last year - it’s pretty much the daily driver and it’s put away wet quite often - love it came out at the time I migrated to a Rolex - class without too much flash
I love the rootbeer, but I'm just a gmt fanboy in general. I think the pepsi is the only one I don't care for.
I have the 16753 circa 1985 with the tiger eye bezel and nipple markers. A bona fide ‘Clint Eastwood’ model. Love the watch. It’s not for everyone. But it works for me. Keeps going up in value too, which is nice. I’m on the wait list for the new one. I may never get one! Hard to say which one you like better when you can’t buy the new one!

Classy watch, I love the 70 hour power reserve and GMT complication with the rose gold two tone its excellent. As for it being a scratch magnet it’s easy to rectify I just put a piece of metal duct tape over the clasp to preserve its lustrous shine. The bracelet isn’t that susceptible to wear.

Very good Video.. much appreciated - Love the latest two tone version. The look is both different and familiar, yet still classic? This will eventually become an iconic model (in current era), although production numbers will keep the value down.
If they had opted for Limited Edition market.. the collectabilty/increasing value.. as awareness of this masterpiece of a watch increases, would be off the chart. IMO

@@RC60669 I don't think that Rolex ever reveal production numbers, nor create "numbered" LE watches. The general market is probably determined more by supply in the grey market, and there are quite a few I believe at the moment still holding a significant premium above retail. The most important factor is whether Rolex discontinue the model in the foreseeable future (hulk!) I am waiting for the Milgauss to become extinct, but then I would have a hard time selling the Milgauss at any price. My CHNR lives in the safe and comes out only on special occasions, it is truly magnificent.

Maybe the best gmt out there. Rolex is not about being dressy or what you want to call it. Imo it is always supposed to be a bit flashy. So the rootbeer is perfecrly fitting the scheme.
I just unboxed mine. It's polarizing in the sense that it is beautiful and I wonder if I deserve such beauty. I am almost embarrassed to wear a watch that turns heads the way this does. My Batman on the jubilee will get the same wear time.
I wanted the Batman on Jubilée, tried on the root beer, ordered the root beer. I still love the Batman and wonder if I should have gone that route, but I’m sure I will be happy with my choice, once I get that root beer!!! In many ways I find it more discreet and I also like that I see it far less often. How do you feel between the two?
@@Bisley1 I have a green OP41, MK1 starbucks sub, and Sprite on a jubilee. The two tone rootbeer is my next watch before I ask for a daytona! Im not super flashy but I feel like the rootbeer is the classy guys 'f you" watch. Can't wait to be tanned in the summertime wearing it!
I collected this model on Thursday, only waited 4 Months it is stunning and individual!
Aesthetically speaking the GMT master II looks much better than the vintage one IMO. It's more clean and versatile. I absolutely think this is an underrated watch and quiet possibly the best looking two tone watch from Rolex.
April cant come quick enough! 😭 Put myself on the list last April when i ordered one with my AD. Apparently the wait is part of the experience, but im so impatient, my head is falling off.

I daily’ed the Sub for a bit, now the Root Beer is my new daily. For me, it’s every bit as good of an everyday watch, if not better.
It is a beautiful watch and I generally prefer the Oyster bracelet on my Rolex sport watches but it sounds like this might be one situation where the experienced historians might be on to something. Maybe it would have paid more homage if it were on a Jubilee bracelet but I still prefer the Oyster.

I think you got the reference wrong. The 126715chnr is the solid everose gold version and not as you describe it in minute 5 of this video.

The black face and oyster bracelet makes this a much more versatile piece. If the reference survives, we'll see the Jubilee and maybe the brown face but either or both will make this a very different watch on the wrist. A Rolesor Jubilee is inherently less sporty if you ask me....Still, it'll be a cool watch. The new Pep and Bat are cool but the GMT is an active man's watch. Oyster is the right choice.
My second favourite GMT master ever after the all everrose one.
The CHNR 2018 is stunning. I would own one if I wasn't offered the GMT Master II LN at the same time, right after it was discontinued. I decided to stay with the Steel for two reasons. One the Black LN was like 5k USD less. The second the Steel LN was going to be worth more the minute I paid for it and walked out the door. The CHNR would have been worth less.
This is trading close to 5k above retail

I absolutely love this Rolex watch...but for those of you out there that can't yet afford this watch and you want a Root Beer NOW, then the Tudor Black Bay GMT S&G Root Beer is absolutely stunning and a great alternative. Both companies are owned by the same parent. Side by side, they are both impressive - although the case is thicker on the Tudor. And its in the $5K range...basically 25% of the price of the Rolex. Just food for thought.

And there lies the problem. When I got my GMT II, I could order it with any bracelet and bezel I wanted. They even gave me the leather band it came with before they swapped out the Jubilee. Nowadays, Rolex doesn't care nearly as much about the customer.
I like the root beer more than any other GMT, but I much prefer the brown dial of old. I like the black and brown bezel and this still looks great, but that brown dial...theres just something about it for me lol

Bring back the brown dial with yellow gold rather than pink gold and I'm going to my AD to try and get one.
Rot bear gmt is famous because of Clint Eastwood and it will jump with price in next 2years…but I love the most stainles steel with green gmt hand and black bezel and dial..
I think this watch is absolutely stunning and actually unique not just another remix of a watch color design on 50 years ago. I know watch enthusiasts like to nickname GMT Master after sodas but if I had a name this after a drink I would call it the Guinness
