Maybe the initial tech was. those aren't. first generation of HSR/Maglevs were german/japanese, newer, indigenous ones aren't. and they are improvements over previous designs. HSR is key Project for intercity transport in China. over 25.000km already built, more than most countries with regular railroads.
This train is not Chinese. But Chinese train can also run on more than 350 kph.

For those who are asking about the speed 700 km/hr, it's the relative speed. Speeds get added when trains moves towards each other.
Yea, its actual speed is (700-311)= 389 kmph
Time is freaking cool
I don't get it why people want to instinctively add speeds up when they have two objects moving toward each other. @user-ob2lq8dr8f is right you have to subtract the speed of the train where the observer is. Removing the delta speed of the observer in this case is similar to seeing the train passing by as a simple pedestrian.

I took this train in Shanghai. The sound the train made when arriving to the station was absolutely epic, a deep permeating humming sound. Still one of my favorite sounds I've ever heard.
That humming is caused by the magnetic regulation units underneath the train, that, in order to hover on the railway (which is the actual engine of the train), have to vibrate a few thousand times a second to match the 50/60hz electric current, to not to come in contact with the rail and stator packages underneath it (this humming is caused by the generation of a rift of air inbetween train and track of precisely 10mm) If you know one of the Germans loosely that engineered this technology and the train seen in the video, you get to have such scientifical background knowledge. We would like to have that sound back we´re it originated from: In Germany, were tracks had been planned for nearly 2 decades and 9 train models where build. The eighth model of them can be seen in this video, it has been renamed to Shanghai SMT.

The downvotes and the comments demonstrate why I would never try to teach physics... most can't even grasp relative velocity even if you try to explain, all they believe is the speed that the screen in train says! XD
Exactly!
"XD" Doesn't sound like a professional adult fit for teaching physics...
It's not supposed to be, and it's highly unlikely that you'll ever catch me being paid to repeat myself over and over... I don't like speaking that much ( I get tired of hearing my own voice very easily ) and I still prefer learning and discovering to being a paid, full-time recorder spitting the same stuff year, after year, after year!
One downvote is from me. If you step down from your high horse you might notice that the title is misleading. And judging by "combined" being put in the description rather than the title i assume the author knew exactly what he was doing - clickbait. And i don't know about others but i hate clickbaits.
P.S. don't worry about becoming a teacher. It would be a disservice to the field to have more people who look down on both teaching and students.
Perhaps clickbait, but I know what he meant. And I wish I had a high horse from which to step down, some people really do seem to have the capability to see farther than I can. I can only aspire to one day reach their advantageous perch as needed...
And I wasn't looking down on anyone, It's just that some people really never get it no matter how many times you try to explain something, and that's ok, you can't expect everyone to be an expert on the subject: I personally failed my physics admission test to college even though I ended up in a physics course via my mathematics test.
My endeavors in physics are first and foremost a personal thing: physics will always be a tool I use to try and understand my surroundings and perhaps, more importantly, myself.
My estimate is that the train is around 160m in length if the mentioned speed of the train is relative to the passengers on it.
Its so fast that the pillars outside are looking distorted. Still the camera did very good work to keep up with the train speed.
At those speeds, time seems to slow down
By the time they reach their destination, everyone else will have aged a few months
Adrian Lucid you mean less aged as compared to stationary people
Youre saying the opposite
According to Albert Einsteins light speed theory, time slows down for the traveler meaning if I were to travel close to the speed of light from Earth to another star system, I would age a few hours while everybody else on Earth would age many years if that`s what you meant
Time does not slow down at that speed. The gamma factor starts to change significantly at more than 10% of light speed
Yes, this is true. It was a sarcastic comment
how on earth did hugo fall for that troll
It's combined speed, stop freaking out comment section physicists!
DR. D-CODER Well relative speed, the combined speed would be around 0.
Something I noticed....see how the windows, doors, gaps between the train carriages are curved? That's an illusion because the train is moving so fast and the camera doesn't have enough frame rates (I think?) to process it. In reality the windows, doors are just plain rectangles.
No, this cannot run up to 700km/h. Only 300km/h and 431km/h are the maximum speed. But China is making a 600km/h one, called the CRRC600.
