Haven't played this game since it was owned by Turbine and I was indeed overwhelmed but also found it wonderfully familiar. Jumping back into my old higher level character was cool, but I definetly recommended rolling a fresh toon to relearn the basics. Also a good excuse to explore a new class
Great advice coming from an on again/off again player since beta. I would also add don't be afraid to ask world chat questions at least for my server Landroval. So many helpful people that are not afraid to point you in the right direction.
I'm back after a decent break, after having a nosey on my main I decided to make my main anew with other appealing class race combos. So many changes and I forgot most of what I knew. Going over the basics and trying new combinations will help me focus on what I enjoy most.
I briefly delved into LotRO in around 2012, and got a Hobbit Hunter up to around level 37. For some reason I quit after that, but can't remember why. I'd even dropped some cash into the cash shop to remove some of the more annoying restrictions and buy some quest packs. After deciding to give the the game another shot two weeks ago - just getting hold of my user name and password was a major challenge, and involved multiple emails to Standing Stone customer support. Pretty sure it was a Turbine game the last time I played. I had no idea what user name, email or password I'd used, but eventually they sorted it and reset my password. Logging in to my Hobbit - who was standing somewhere in Evendim, it was a case of pure information overload. I had no memory of anything, and even the interface was messed up as I'd since upgraded my monitor to a super widescreen. I guess I could have followed your advice and persevered, mashing buttons until it all came back to me. I couldn't remember a damned thing about how to play my character or any of the game's systems. Ultimately I decided it was better to just start again with a clean slate, creating an entire new character. At least that way the info I needed to play the game would be slowly filtered to me as I needed it, not just dumped on me at once. I can't imagine what it must be like to use that level boost service and be confronted with a brand new high level character 'from scratch' with no info about the game....not that I'd ever use that service. It's about the journey not the destination. (Also I'd forgotten just how plain creepy and unnerving the Barrow Downs were).
Thats a weird feeling when you accidently stumble on a game video which you played a lot for years a long time ago. Started at beta and ended sometime after isengard released. That was a decade ago! Crazy how the time disappears. Great game, great memories..
Great Advice Aubs! You should start a therapy service for gamers. You seem suited for that type of work :) Yes, i returned to the game a few months ago and what I did was read up on the new LI system. I was overwhelmed so I decided to look among my alts for a 30ish 40ish toon and levelled them to go through Moria starter area just so I could do the new system from the ground up. Worked very well for me. I joined a kin that had many returning players who are in the same boat as me. So im not alone in being overwhelmed and its easy once you get the hang of it. So thanks for the advice it sure is sensible and bang on the money! Thanks again and HNY!!
I've been off for a couple months and I'm just trying to relearn how to play the game. I think it's important to be patient when you're doing that because you may just not remember all the commands and whatnot
Yeah, the point resets are the worst. Virtues are a long term deeding ‘adventure’ if you need another direction there but nothing sucks worse than coming back and facing that empty tree on a character over 30 or 40. It can almost look like a different language if there was a serious rework between now and when you last played. When I last came back, the tree more than anything else controlled which character I played the first week. I went with hunter simply because I could google up more recent builds for them. It took more than a month before I was comfortable setting up all my characters.
Yeah the tree is the worst. I never know what skills I had in place and what my build was. Can be helpful sometimes but for the most part does take some Lotro wiki to help me out with it.
Good advice. At somewhat of a completionist and someone that ALSO has a long-standing fight with anxiety, being overwhelmed is a chronic problem. But it's one I tackle well now! I always feel behind or rushed, but man, there's no hurry. What server do you play on? Have you said?
Hey Walter! I feel you on the anxiety stuff! I'm the exact same way!!! Certainly enjoy the journey of Middle-Earth and I gotta say, I am pacing myself through the story which I also felt so overwhelmed to do the main story with all the other content things in the game. However, this time around was great! Even though I'm 16 years late to the game when it comes to main story, I am able to enjoy the story even more now knowing I am getting to enjoy something that is new to me. Also, I play on Crickhollow! Have a great day!
I’m so glad LOTRO has been a good experience for ya! Thanks for always watching the videos 🙌 I hope to continue to see you and your profile pic in 2024! 😆
The worst thing i encountered after not playing the game for a few years was the new legendary item system. I did not and was not warned about it, Totally made my character super weak so I just figured they nerfed the characters and uninstalled. They should find a way to tell people about it as they are going to lose more returning players. Luckily I joined a Kinship and they told me about it and helped me to fix it or I would have probably uninstalled again.
@@Deploreables yeah the new legendary item system kinda sucks now in my opinion. Less customizable. I didn’t think the old legendary item system was amazing, but I almost prefer it. This system seemed way less instructive to figure out.
Yeah the skills systems will probably be revamped sooner than we think. I know the talk of making LOTRO available on consoles was being brought to the table, but was ultimately not approved. However, I’m sure this could change overtime but the move to console would probably require less skills and less windows.
@@harliquin76 OMG LM was my first class at the release too. I hated it. Couldn’t play it and didn’t understand it. I went hunter, I then was able to at least enjoy the game. First class that got me into the grind though, was minstrel. I made it as a joke and then it kept kicking my LOTRO loving dad’s guardian and then I realized mini DPS was insanely good too so I got it to the max of 100 (back when that was the max). I highly recommend. It’s a stronger class that what people give it credit for when it comes to DPS output.

Question: Can I switch between servers? Or am I stuck on one once I create my character? I am planning to play the game with a relative, so it would be good to know if I need to ask him what server he is on ahead of time.
I never left the game since I started playing it and I'm still regularly overwhelmed:)
Yes! It does happen. They keep implementing changes, which is a good thing. Being overwhelmed is totally normal. You got this though! ❤️

Yes exactly! Everytime I come back, it’s way easier to roll a new toon than anything.

That’s a great piece of advice! Thank you for sharing. I always stay tabbed out of world chat for streaming reasons so I always forget it’s an option.
Same...I have been playing since launch and my highest is level 88, I take breaks all the time but the community on Landroval is great
@@frankbonfilio7443 i concur as a Landy player myself
I took your advice and joined back! I have enjoyed it so much!! Thank you!!
Aww I’m so glad you’re enjoying it again!
You are such a treasure for this game & community!
Aww thank you!
