  • Welcome back to the channel and welcome to a new project car.
    So this is a 1999 Rover Mini Cooper Sportspack with some serious rust issues, if anyone knows about the later minis they will know they really suffer from rust.
    So we are tasked with saving this one its a basically going to be scuttle forward that needs replacing so loads of welding and grinding. In this episode we start getting the old flitch panel cut out and run through the way the panel needs to fit, loads of cleaning up of metal to come.

    I’ve recently started to restore my mini and I’m finding your videos very helpful. I’m finding the advice and recommendations just as important as the work. I will definitely be using some of your methods and look forward to the next video. Thanks and keep up the good work.

      Sunny Mini haha this mini definitely doesn’t help with showing the rust it’s really bad. But hopefully we are getting somewhere now.

    I remember paying good money to get minis welded, in the 90s when they were still cheap, and every single one of them came back botched, like a 5 yo had welded them. I've still yet to find a car shop I'd actually trust to do a job, so therapeutic to watch these minis being rebuilt with such care :)

      Thanks buddy appreciate the comment. I am the same with my cars would much prefer to crack on and do it myself and know what’s going into the car. 👍

    Did you go on a course to learn this .also why don’t you wear a dust mask.

    • @SimpsonsClassics
      @SimpsonsClassics  3 года назад +1

      I went on a small evening course to be shown a welder basically many many years back. Yes I should wear a dust mask but I don’t 🤷‍♂️

    The more I see this car the more I realise what a monumental job it is and I'm genuinely impressed with how you are tackling the job. We know how much I like the Clubman but I'm finding this more interesting because when you first showed this car my thoughts were "parts car!" and yet you're bringing it back to life.....just WOW!!

    • @SimpsonsClassics
      @SimpsonsClassics  4 года назад +1

      Aha thanks Graeme yeah a lot of people would say parts car for sure. I guess these later minis are well worth saving and the more they rot like this the less there will be very soon. Cheers for following along 👍

    Hi Marc, I’m trying to learn and learning a lot from you guys, thank you. Question, if you have a whole new panel why do you just cut out the bad and cut the new panel rather than replace all of it? Thanks

    • @SimpsonsClassics
      @SimpsonsClassics  4 года назад

      Hey I am glad your learning from us we are learning as we go also as every car is different for sure. My reason for this is the car just doesn’t need the whole panel so we have cut out was bad and then will make the repair panel fit. My thoughts as well for doing this in this area is that the less I cut out the better for the car structurally. Thanks for watching 👍

    Just a tip.... Sometimes a measure with a tape can help position of panels if you measure before removing. Wow that is a nasty corner of the car to work. Well done.

    I appreciate you going into detail with the A-panels, they are on my list but I have never had a go at them before so it is good to learn.
