- Welcome back to the channel and welcome to a new project car.
So this is a 1999 Rover Mini Cooper Sportspack with some serious rust issues, if anyone knows about the later minis they will know they really suffer from rust.
So we are tasked with saving this one its a basically going to be scuttle forward that needs replacing so loads of welding and grinding. In this episode we mange to get the scuttle panel welded on and fully done this is a massive milestone for this car, check the footage out of what we began with.....

Hi Marc, I was wondering what you were cleaning the tips of your spot welder with. Enjoying your videos and thanks for doing them. Cheers, Midge
Hey Midge, I use just just a light sandpaper to keep them clean tbh it seems to have worked well over the years, thanks for watching buddy 👍
Another great video, but I wish you would cover up things like the steering wheel when welding and spraying. Keep up the good work :-)
Thanks buddy. Yes I should for sure I am keeping an eye on them and no damage has been done just needs a dam good clean. Thanks for watching 👍
Another good job done Marc, still the most attractive of all the Mini bodies in my opinion 👍🇬🇧😊
Thanks buddy. The sportspack minis are very well sorted little cars for sure.
Top progress, reckon you’ll be finished before i’ve got mine ready for the road 😂
Thanks buddy. Really pushing to get this front end sorted 👍
Great job mate. Looking forward to how you do the cover plates under the corners. I need to sort them on mine at some point. Not sure how to do it.
Thanks buddy, yes I will cover them as much as I can. It’s basically get them to sit nice and not let any water in 👍
Getting there now 😃.
Have to agree, I always weld the wings to the front panel then fit (force) it too the car 😉🤣
Thanks buddy,
Yes this is my thoughts to aha
If you cut through both new and old panel the joint will be spot on using a 1mm disc
I did it this way to avoid the wiring there is loads running through both pillars on the mpi minis
Nice job mate one of my jobs comeing up but no spot welder 😬
Thanks buddy this is the first one I have done with a spot welder. It’s easy enough doing it with plug welding to just takes more time doing the prep 👍
👍👍
What device was that you were using to remove the weld from the scuttle at the windscreen frame, where the scuttle attaches to the wind screen frame, Cheers mate
I was using a little belt sander to clean the welds back 👍
@@SimpsonsClassics ok thanks for that. I thought you was using a soldering iron lol Well it looked like one......
Starting to look good now👍
Thanks buddy 👍
Hi Marc a significant milestone there with the scuttle back on, always good to see the before and after, it must give you a lot of satisfaction to see the improvement.
Take Care Stay Safe Everyone Regards Dave 👍😎🏴
Hi Dave, cheers yesterday definitely feels like I have got somewhere now and sorted the main issue with the car out. We can now build forward and see what we can do with that front end now. Cheers for watching stay safe buddy 👍😎
Nice work, starting to take shape nicely!
Thanks, yep definitely is now just need to get that front end to fit and keep pushing on
Great vid I’m on this stage of my project so you and BMC workshop releasing similar vids is going to come in handy. Keep up the good work great vids
Cheers buddy will do my best to help out as much as I can 👍
Diligent craftsmanship as always. An amazing transformation and salvage of what was otherwise edging toward scrap. Look forward to the next instalment.
Thanks Darren i appreciate that. The next episode will be trying to get that front end to fit. So stay tuned. Cheers for watching 👍
I remember how this car was when you started stripping it and thinking "Oh dear, you're brave wanting to tackle this", you're doing a really great job on it Marc. You're saving a car on a driveway that I'd have been wary of attempting in a workshop, hats off to you.
Yeah she was definitely bad around this area for sure. It’s starting to come together for sure and hopefully not long and the front end will be on. Cheers for watching 👍
Looking good Marc, Love the way you make these jobs seem less daunting :)
Thanks buddy, it’s like many jobs just break it done into many smaller jobs 👍
It’s getting there now mate!
Thanks buddy yep front end next
