That is definitely not the cheapest 350z in the country, I've been looking at them for second cars for about 2 months and the cheapest ones are around £3,000. Look forward to seeing what you can do with it though mate!
@@Erowens98 Feels bad man, in Norway you can't get one for less than $25k. It would be cheaper to fly over to germany, buy your car there and drive back. Honestly.
Great video, very well edited. I myself have a 350z convertible in orange, RARELY ever see them anywhere. So will be watching this as I've had some work done to mine and would be keen to see what you do to gain more power, especially as some just isn't worth it at all.
Road and Race its had uprated sports brakes, directionally slotted with sports pads. Non resonated full sports cobra exhaust along with a remap and tune on a Dyno over at abbey motor sports in kent (350z specialists) and some other work just for maintenance. Rear diff bushings had to be replaced and I've had uprated stage two sports clutch installed along with a dual mass OEM style flywheel (would have gone light weight but chatter for stage two clutch is high anyway) and then just DAB digital dvd double din satnav head unit with calling etc. I like the work that's been done but chasing power without ten grand spare and an engine rebuild is a bit of a fools errand. I was looking at doing a turbo but can't get right hand drive kits and super chargers are okay, but you have to reinforce the engine and essentially rebuild it. So it's all a bit much.
Road and Race it's a revup engine, so it's now hitting 300bhp Dyno to confirm. In fairness, it feels quick enough. After speaking with the guys at abbey motor sports, they pretty said there's not much else you can do, unless you supercharge it, but then you're looking at ten grand or so, as you have to bolster the engine internals as well as the kit. So it's a costly thing. I'm just looking to enjoy the car now then get a GTR a few years down the line
Super excited for this series! One thing check your diff carrier bushing- its known to prematurely wear and if it's worn produced a clunk and vague clutch feel. I highly recommend the Z1 full poly bushing kit. It did wonders and NO added nvh
Since you need new tyres you might use the opportunity and have a drift session on an empty parking lot. That would definetly be entertaining and you could make a video out of it.
I’m Really Looking forward to the build, In the meantime I recommend Changing your gear oil to redline synthetic if you’re having trouble getting into 5th gear, My car had the exact same problem as yours and just filling the gearbox with redline oil cured the problem. It’s an easy fix.
Nice video mate, can tell your an enthusiast and it’s nice not to have video plastered with people wearing back to front caps and playing rap music. Nice, honest channel. Subscribed.
The best news for the channel since you ditched the glorious Boxster! I love my 2003 Daytona Blue Track but I can’t agree that you can throw it into any corner and expect a flat ride through it. I found the body roll excessive even during Motorkhana events. Some upgraded Hotchkis anti-roll bars really helped. Go for an Nvidia exhaust replacement! Not too noisy and really frees up the engine nicely. Those wheels are genuine Rays Engineering forged rims! Got to be worth £1,000 alone! 👍🏻 You’ve got me excited! 😊😊
Thanks mate. I'll get it on the track soon and really test the body roll! An excuse for suspension mods then! Do you not agree though that as a road car the stock suspension is really good though? Thanks for the tip about the exhaust, I'll see how expensive it is.
Road and Race I thought the stock suspension was good till I learned how much better it can be. Make sure you check your front and rear control arms. I’ll bet you a fiver the bushings have given way. It’s a common issue. 🤞🏻
I'm so glad you picked this up and we'll be doing this series because I have had my eye on these and been wondering so much if there worth it, and also just in general what they are like. I look forward
I'd watch out for that tiny rust patch - I used to have a 350z and the same happened with mine. They're double skinned so if the rust is showing it usually means it's pushing through from the inside and is likely to be much worse than the little patch suggests. Awesome cars though, best of luck with it.
I've got a few mates who have 350z's and they run BC Racing coilovers and are really happy with them! Good luck with the project dude, looking forward to it!
I had one of these back in 2007 in Azure Blue, it was my favourite car ever and then sold it in 2011. I want another one as a weekend hobbie car, do a video of the underneath if you can as I want to see how much rust is on them. I also had the same leak on my power steering pump, I had it spot welded (it's aluminium so if you find a decent welder it can be repaired). It's easy to take off, and then just refill the power steering fluid and jobs a good 'un.
Looking forward to the new project. Please keep the rays alloys , they really suit the car. Don't let the other bloke wield any spanners near it, just let him burn the rubber off the rims 👍
Love it. I'm currently considering getting rid of my 987 cayman s and getting a 350z as I had one before the porsche and I too have fond memories of it. I love my cayman don't get me wrong but the 350z was more reliable but more economical if something were to go wrong.
Big thanks Ryan, glad you liked it! Test drive a 350z again - you might be surprised how good it is. Not driven a 987 Cayman but would love to see how they compare.
Nice find. I have a 2007 350z with the vq35hr motor and I love that car (had it for the past 10 years). I think the steering wheel shakes are being caused by worn lower control & compression arm bushings. When you replace those the steering will feel solid.
I have recently bought a 2005 350 roadster, this week it is getting, suspension, arms, brakes lines, Bride seats, harness, tarox competition pads, Yokohama AD08R tyres, should be good fun, I’ll be following your build :)
Road and Race, Bride is a brand of seat. The total budget is £5k. With the tyres, brakes, seats, etc I’m getting close to that, so the suspension is going to be a set of apex springs for the first while, see how it handles, maybe upgrade the shocks later.
Hadn't heard of Bride but their website looks good. Seems like a wide choice of seats too for the 350Z. Do they have a UK showroom where you can test them out for size? Let me know which one you get.
Nice new project car, great platform for a sports/track car (great suspension and lovely engine). Looking fwd to chasing you at the track some day. The title thing... hmmm, not sure you need to.
Thanks Pedro. Yes, it's a great little car. Would be good to see you at the track again. We're at Bedford on the 16th July if you're free? As for the title, yeah, wold prefer not to but you don't get noticed otherwise!
If you want to transform the handling of the 350z and make it drive the way it should, remove the center console and unplug the Bosch sensor on the floor near the gear stick. You will find the traction control is then fully disabled but the car feels much more dynamic under all circumstances. This really transforms the car and I even noticed improved braking and fuel consumption as the brakes are no longer grabbing at the wheels when cornering. Try it. Everyone should know this little tweak as it only takes 5 min to do and is fully reversible again.
i'm pretty sure on a DE Z if you just turn TSC off by your feet it fully removes the whole lot. Do even HR z's independently brake wheels??? surely not.
Also it'll be interesting what you decide on the turbo. I was always attracted to the 350 because it's a strong naturally-aspirated engine without having to worry about any kind of booster system
Yeah, it's got a very linear torque delivery from a N/A so pulls hard from low revs. We'll see how it performs on the track. Just got to get a few high priority issues fixed first!
I just picked up my 2nd 350z as well. 2003 Touring model w/ 34k miles (6 speed). It's pikes peak white and plan on doing a few things to it as I did w/ my last one on my channel.
i found a guy on craigslist who had it for sale and luckily they were looking for an Xterra which I had. We ended up trading! My Xterra had 64k miles on it (4x4 XE).
Great video and really looking forward to this series. 350Z’s are awesome value although I would say this is far from the cheapest in the country - even at time of purchase. A quick Gumtree search churned up multiple 350Z’s for a shade under £4K.. regardless, nice purchase. Looking forward to the next one!
Not sure how they could do it. But as great as I think ‘The Grand Tour’ is, if they need anything?... It’s Ben Collins as ‘The Stig’. Or as ‘Ben Collins’ perhaps. Phenomenal driver, and how he described The Stig staring at escalators, etc?... PERFECT. Collins gets it. The other drivers who later ‘played’ that character just did not get it. Ben was also superb in his work on the Bond films!
Did I mention that when I decided not to go for a 350Z, I went for the cheapest E46 M3 there was on mobile.de? Well the cheapest one with the steering wheel on the right side and with no sun roof, that is. It was quite a disaster. From a financial point of view. Make sure you get an anti roll kit on this track car this time. H&R adjustable stabilizer bars I mean.
When considering getting a 350Z, I read about all these engine tuning stuff, including the spacef for the air box. I really doubt any of these do anything expect cost money. Wouldn't it be neat if you did a dyno run with the 350Z before doing anything with the engine, performance-wise?
Welcome to the world of the VQ35DE make sure feed her well with oil and check her consistently because these motors love to drink oil but don’t let that scare you though these motors are sturdy once you up to speed on maintenance from your 350z twin brother the Infiniti G35 Sedan 6 Speed DE
Good time to get a 350z prices of these car's are relatively low and I think they will rise look forward to seeing what you do with it lot of car for the money
prices are so low, it is a steal for what you get. In the past 18 months, I have purchased two 350z GT's, in good condition that I use for track for £2650 and £2800 latest one came with loads of mods, remap, plenum, exhaust etc - look forward to seeing this build
I spent quite a bit of time on eBay waiting for the right car to come up... took a while (couple of months) but you can get them cheap if you are patient and willing to travel - I do have a thread on PistonHeads (that I'm poor at keeping update)
So i just had to add to the world cheapest 2004 nissan 350z just bought a month ago or less. It has 9,800 miles on it. Stored in a garage only driven for oil changes and washing and waxing 2 twice a year. Plus michelin new tired and new wheels. All for $11,000 US dollars. The older lady hurt her back and couldnt get in and out and i worked with her husband at Boeing in Everett Washington usa. I had bought my self one two weeks before that a 2006 enthusiasts 300 hp 6 speed with 47,600 miles on it for $11.900. Its fast
can you also do one on a coolant flush for the 350z, and also a HOW TO for the rear subframe differential bushing replacement (those always go bad on z's)
Thanks mate. Not had it on the scales but book weight has it between 1.4 and 1.5 tonnes. On the motorway i get 30 mpg which isn't too bad. It has a large 80 litre tank so you don't have to stop so often! The Clio videos didn't get enough interest. Don't know why. I thought they were the best things we'd done so far. Those who like them loved them and we really appreciate that. It was a hard decision in the end but we did 16 episodes and couldn't justify the 15 hours minimum to make each video when so few people were watching. Hopefully this series on the 350Z will be even better!
Sounds good. Ah that's a shame about the Clio. I agree, I think it was some of the best videos you have made and some of the best on RUclips for the Clio sport. I think you are on to a winner with the format, tweaking the car choice will hopefully make that difference. Good luck, looking forward to this!
Dear Road & Race, many thanks for a great series of vids on the 350z - I'm looking at buying one as a second car to play in/with. Yours is the earlier, slightly lower power, version. Have you ever felt that you would have preferred the later 300PS version?
Dude! I have a 2006, 350 Z convertible with black exterior, black interior, black rims and I plan to copy your interior upgrade. So don’t leave out any details. Thanks bruh.
i wanted to ask you if you could, after painting and tuning, put on a turbo/supercharger? i want this car to put in an RB25 from a Skyline GTST.... 3k for an engine and loom though, ouch! keep up the great work ta Neil
How do you find the Golf? Whilst we loved the Clio I don't think the internet did. We did 16 episodes and no one really watched them so we couldn't justify making them anymore. Hopefully the 350Z will be more popular!
These things cost 15000€ in finland, 10000€ if you're willing to import from Germany. Oh how i wish they cost 5k here... Still worth the money though, its pretty much the best sports car available for 10k in Europe (my opinion).
@@RoadandRacetv problem is, the wheel is on the "wrong" side. There are ways to work around this, ive even seen people convert cars handedness. But i'd rather spend the extra money to get steering on the left from stock.
Just a quick question about BMW. With the e90 would you recommend getting a automatic or a manual transmission? I want reliability more than performance, so what would you suggest?
Depends what you want. A feel a manual is more engaging and essential if you want to tracks car. A auto if fine for everyday and easier to drive. Reliability wise I’ve no idea, both are probably just as reliable if maintained correctly in my opinion.
how would you compare to the convertible to th hard top, is one funner to drive than the other. over all what would you go with, im looking at both and cant decide yet.
I’ve owned both and the coupe is best if you’re gonna track it. The convertible is heavier due to the extra body stiffening you see. If just road driving then both are good, but obviously the convertible let’s in more road noise due to the cloth roof.
You sit lower and the car feels wider so cornering feels better. It also feels lighter and more nimble than the M3. Saying that the M3 is more practical, more comfortable, sounds better and has much more brute force.
@@RoadandRacetv Cheaper to fix as well and easier to work on maybe? I think the Lotus / NSX / S2000 is my choice but I'm not in the UK so they are more expensive here.
Road and Race it’s got to be a Labour of love then?😊an interesting one for us watching this channel. But for 8k you could of got a mint example but I know for you it’s missing the point. You have got my attention and I look forward to seeing you put your stamp on that orange canvas 👍🏽
Also got a 2004 Nissan 350Z and the best mod were Bilstein PSS10 coilovers. They make the car more composed and smoother over bumps, but at the same time very agile and grippy. Can´t get much more out of the engine with spacer and remap (have done both), you can feel the difference but as you get used to it quite quickly, you will not remember it. A different thing is to go supercharged or turbocharged, but I guess you would loose some of its great and unique sound and would feel some lag. My experience with performance cats was not good. Great sound but you loose low and mid range torque (and that is what this DE engine really is about). Go for the 2008-2009 hood. Looks much better! Congrats for the channel! Wish you all the best with this project!
Thanks for all the top tips Franz. It's a big help. Will certainly check out the PSS10's. Yeah the 2008 hood is SOOOO much better. Might have to find one from a breakers yard and get it painted!
Road and Race, one more thing I think is useful. The problem about the struts that will not cope with the weight of the boot lid. They are very expensive at Nissan. I recommend that you first remove the counterweight that sits inside the boot lid (aprox 2kg). You will have to remove the plastic panel. In my case it worked and I didn’t need to replace the struts. Cheers
its the HR that has 80% of torque from 2000 rpm. the DE has higher peak torque but not an as flat curve. I would imagine your remap was generic if removing or hi flow cats lost you torque anywhere in the rev range.

AE777 agree 100%. No idea if you can change the title of the video as its heavily misleading, possibly click bait..
Let's see where this series goes
Defiantly click bait. Around 3k would possibly be the cheapest 350z.. 5k should be a half decent 350z
5k would be the cheapest, if you're in Europe. Even in Germany, 8k is the lowest they go. And Germany is the cheapest car country in Europe.
Not in this color package and mileage.

Good idea. Will do.
Thanks mate, will do!
Also do bushings when you are upgrading the suspension!
Good idea.
I also use vehicle smart! So easy to use.
It's a good little app, isn't it!
Really nice colour and loving the interior.Nearly got one over the TTs mate. Very nice sound 🏁🏎💨 Those seats are called Tan leather not orange mate.
Will be interested to see what's causing the brake judder... I've just bought a 350Z and it does the same.
Good time to get a 350z prices of these car's are relatively low and I think they will rise look forward to seeing what you do with it lot of car for the money
Thanks David. Yes, prices are falling so a good time to pick one up. Could be a future classic?
prices are so low, it is a steal for what you get. In the past 18 months, I have purchased two 350z GT's, in good condition that I use for track for £2650 and £2800 latest one came with loads of mods, remap, plenum, exhaust etc - look forward to seeing this build
Peter Cartwright that is low where have you picked them up at that price ?
I spent quite a bit of time on eBay waiting for the right car to come up... took a while (couple of months) but you can get them cheap if you are patient and willing to travel - I do have a thread on PistonHeads (that I'm poor at keeping update)
Peter Cartwright I'll have a look
Very interested to see how this baby stacks up against your clio track car. I bet it's closer than you think!
ive bought mine for $450 put $100 in and now I just got a buyer for $5,000
So i just had to add to the world cheapest 2004 nissan 350z just bought a month ago or less. Its fast
cant wait this car is awesome! please do HOW TO VIDS on this 350z
Will do. The next episode shows how I replaced the engine belts, changed the chassis brace and fixed the gearbox.
can you also do one on a coolant flush for the 350z, and also a HOW TO for the rear subframe differential bushing replacement (those always go bad on z's)
Coolant is on the list and will be done in the next few months. Will check out the condition of the sub frame bushes and see if they need doing.
Have you got a 350z?
ya i got a 370z
Niiiice, can’t with to see whats gonna happen with this beauty
Really looking forward to more on this car :-)
Thanks Davon. Got a few bits shot already for the next video. Will hopefully have it ready for a weeks time.
Nice, looking forward to this! I imagine they are quite heavy on fuel due to the engine and being rather heavy? Any news on the Clio mate?
Looking forward to what happens with this project! However was kind of hoping it would have been a 350z for sub 2k as the title suggested 😂
Brakes are warped? My daily does that also. Steering and seat shakes. Need to replace all 4 pads and rotors. :(
Looks good! Looking forward to this. Sold the M3?
Thanks Euan. Not yet, but I will have to sell it soon.
You said cheapest in the county? I paid 2750 for mine in the same colour 103k miles
Good purchase. Only 4 for sale in orange in the UK when I was looking. Did it need much work? How was the rust?
Dude! I have a 2006, 350 Z convertible with black exterior, black interior, black rims and I plan to copy your interior upgrade. So don’t leave out any details. Thanks bruh.
Nice car! No problem, will show it all!
Ive got a 350z and the clutch has a high bite point on these cars...normal
not so much that you can't do hill starts without the handbrake, i find that easier in these cars than any other. no rev drama just smooth and easy
Cool video :) looking forward to the updates... M3 sold now??
Thanks Llewelyn. No, still got the M3 but it will be going up for sale next week.
Yes, new music, nice! ;D
Thanks mate. Always makes me so happy when people say they like the music. It takes a while but i always think it's worth it.
Awesome! A friend of mine has a 350Z (cracking car), really interested to see what you do with it! 👍
Big thanks John. It is surprisingly good isn't it!
You got a DE engine this time though it isn’t exactly the same as the other 350 you had. You feeling the difference?
Cant wait for more vids but seemed very pricey for what is wrong with it
i wanted to ask you if you could, after painting and tuning, put on a turbo/supercharger? i want this car to put in an RB25 from a Skyline GTST.... 3k for an engine and loom though, ouch! keep up the great work ta Neil
Thanks Richard. A turbo or supercharger is certainly on my list. Might have to save up a bit of money to afford it first though!
Can you test of Audi TT 2006 V6 3.2??? Love the vids !!!
Will try. I’ll need to find someone to lend me one though first!
Always fancied one of these. But bought a MK4 golf R32 instead.
What the hell happened to the Clio?
How do you find the Golf?
Whilst we loved the Clio I don't think the internet did. We did 16 episodes and no one really watched them so we couldn't justify making them anymore. Hopefully the 350Z will be more popular!
These things cost 15000€ in finland, 10000€ if you're willing to import from Germany. Oh how i wish they cost 5k here...
Still worth the money though, its pretty much the best sports car available for 10k in Europe (my opinion).
Wow. Expensive. Maybe pick one up in England and drive it back?
Looking interesting ..... oh and super charge it !!
Looking forward to this series.
Whatd you do about the clutch im having the same feel :/
Good work
Thanks Jon!
This car is my dream car and theres only one in sale where i live and it costs 15000 $...
I hate my life...
how would you compare to the convertible to th hard top, is one funner to drive than the other. over all what would you go with, im looking at both and cant decide yet.
I’ve owned both and the coupe is best if you’re gonna track it. The convertible is heavier due to the extra body stiffening you see. If just road driving then both are good, but obviously the convertible let’s in more road noise due to the cloth roof.
@@RoadandRacetv thanks, it's a 2and weekend backroad driver. Did not know it was this tough to decide. Thanks again
How does this compare to the e92 M3? Obv diff year and price range I know
You sit lower and the car feels wider so cornering feels better. It also feels lighter and more nimble than the M3. Saying that the M3 is more practical, more comfortable, sounds better and has much more brute force.
Curious the difference with the 350z and Boxster? Why did you choose the 350z?
I just think the Z is a better drive
@@RoadandRacetv Cheaper to fix as well and easier to work on maybe? I think the Lotus / NSX / S2000 is my choice but I'm not in the UK so they are more expensive here.
Just out of interest did you find a solution to the clutch issue? I'm having the exact same problem with mine
Yeah, replaced the clutch slave and all was good. It’s all in episode 4 I think.
@@RoadandRacetv Thanks for the reply mate will watch it now
What is your estimated budget including purchasing to get the car just up to road reliable?
Not really thought about it but I'd guess £8,000 or so.
Road and Race it’s got to be a Labour of love then?😊an interesting one for us watching this channel. But for 8k you could of got a mint example but I know for you it’s missing the point. You have got my attention and I look forward to seeing you put your stamp on that orange canvas 👍🏽
You hit the nail on the head. I like working on cars and there's no show if there's nothing to fix!
Road and Race what bhp are you aiming for or is it a wait and see 😊?
Hoping it still makes the 280 PS stock then we'll see. Another 30 hp is achievable before needing a turbo I've read with engine mods and exhaust.
subscibed
Thanks for the sub!
No more Clio videos?
Sadly not. I loved that little car but it simply wasn't getting the views needed to make it worth my time. No idea why, I though they were good shows.
Pls tell me you kept the M3! 😆
Still have it a the moment but it will need to be put up for sale soon. I'll do a video explaining why soon.
I would imagine your remap was generic if removing or hi flow cats lost you torque anywhere in the rev range.
oooo new project. going JDM NOW AHAH
You bet!
