I discovered this band a few years ago and I was blown away. They're now one of my favorites, and this is my favorite song by them. Digging deeper into their songs and music just reveals more and more gems - everything from beautifully symphonic with clean vocals, like this one, to the beautifully intense and heavy that has some of the best growling I've ever heard. The variety and quality of their music is seemingly endless.
Are you familiar with Alkonost? They have that folky, somehow somber and uplifting in the same time sound as Grai. Depending on what album, some are more black metal vocal style and others more female cleans. All albums are good though

Very well developed composition with beautiful bridges. They openned the melody and its theme from all of its sides. I notice a nice trick where the voice transforms into a flute, that was awesome. Rhythm is punchy and all elements are clear and transparent. Very beautiful and sophisticated song...
What can i sey. Brilliant instrumental plays, beutiful woman and this slavic folklor. I'am not impartial because im slavic too but in this bad times where are around plastic music and no soul sooo poor, band like this one is the best way to touch your soul : ) Roney i'am still waitng for next Delta Empire : ) still waitting for this. An off subject question but I always wanted to ask: Does the over-use of cymbals drive you crazy? I can NOT listen to the last half of CCR Heard It Through The Grapevine because of the clash,clash,clash every half beat. Is it just me? Would love to know your stand on cymbal use/overuse
I allready knew them but with so many good bands lost them out of the eye. It has some places where it has folk drum influence specialy in the beginning. Nice to hear time signature changes in (folkl)metal. In slavic, arabic, oriental countries its quite common, even to dance on. In our western music we mostly kinda stuck in 4/4, 2/4,3/4, 6/8. Ok appart from progrock/metal and for exhample Dave's take five, unsquare dance and so on.

Because: as soon as the war began, they started posting clips of their concerts. Where every asking for peace or support for the Ukraine would recive a "heart" on that comment from the band within hours. Pls keep in mind: to call the agression a "war" can get you in prison for up to 15yrs, in Russia. They dared. To give a heart for everyone, calling it a war. Heroes! Sincerly hope they're doing fine, still. (Seems like it: I still get announcements from bandcamp). Same genre, but from the Ukraine, would be "IGNEA". Pls consider reacting to their song "Alga". Them liking comments asking for peace or support for Ukraine doesn't mean they are anti Russian or even anti government no matter how much you want it to be. It's simply a wish common in the hearts of many Russians that this issue with their fellow slav nation will end soon and they can all be at peace once more. Best to remember that Russians are under no ilusions about this conflict or war. They know exactly what has been happening since 2014 when a western sponsored coup installed a pro western government in Kiev that immediately started to discriminate and later unleash horrendous violence against Ukrainians that are either pro Russian or of a Russian ethnicity. (It's not for nothing Putin's enjoying over 80% approval ratings now) Meanwhile many in the west think this conflict was started by him this year.

This is one of the best folk metal bands. Wagakki, Wardruna, Heilung, Bloodywood, The Hu, Arkona are comparable but to me Grai is THE best.
