I think in our modern world, we forget that it's ok to sit and do nothing for an hour to truly give our bodies a rest. When I truly sit and stare at a tree or let my mind be, my body feels ready to do the next thing. I've noticed my phone just keeps my mind on when it needs to turn off for awhile to recharge! But the addiction quality of the Internet is real and I feel ill equiped to deal with it. It seems to either be on it all the time or cold turkey. I've yet to find an in between. Thank you for documenting this though. My husband works from home half the time so we have to have Internet and I hate it lol
Thank you guys for sharing and being so open about your journey as parents. I have two small boys and I found myself hiding from my kids and yelling a lot because of my iphone. I just wanted to listen to things constantly and scroll non stop. I got the light phone and it has changed my life. I have so much more time to be still, to think. I am much more patient and present with my kids. with my husband too! working on chipping away at screens in general. my toddler LOVES music. I got him a kids mp3 player. he no longer stares at the TV all day and if he wants music I just give him the music player. One thing at a time and having a blast with it!
Yes I want to hear about your favorite online resources! I have two littles and i know I'm super distracted by my phone and i honestly just don't wanna live like this anymore. Your videos are such inspiring resources.
I love listening to podcasts but only do it after the kids go to bed while I clean the kitchen, fold laundry, etc. I feel guilty if I listen during the day since my kids are up and need me to be aware. I have started to silence my phone during the day too since all the texts were driving me insane while I was homeschooling so my husband suggested I silence it while I homeschool and boy has that been great!! People shouldn’t have 24/7 access to me when I am trying to teach my kids! Loved this video and you two are troopers for sticking it out for 5 whole weeks! I would have caved by day 2😂😂😂
I love the idea of creating a smaller internet/online footprint! I also have a physical binder for recipes that I get from online that become my favorites. Thank you for sharing your internet detox experience, it's eye opening to the reality of the world we live in today and what's "normal." I have the tendency to also listen to podcasts and music while doing home chores and taking a break to hear ones own thoughts is so important and so much more peaceful and productive.
My husband and I got married at 19 and right before we did we said we did not want any T.V or internet. We lived that way for 11 years and I loved it, it did make some things harder in life but I remember not feeling stressed and our home was a true sanctuary . Just two years ago we got internet and a month ago I got my first smart phone. I have found myself always needing something to be listening to, I also feel more anxious. I miss what it used to feel like. Would be hard to get rid of it now though due to the business and homeschooling. Thank you guys for your videos they are a blessing.
We have never had a smart phone, nor will we ever! When we went to Seattle for my daughters wedding, he printed direction from map quest. My daughter is 36 and thought we were insane for doing that. I have told her that we do what works for us as she and her husband does the same. This is not a one size fits all topic. We actually have encyclopedias in our home. :)
I enjoyed hearing your honest perspective. It seems like so much of technology revolves around balance and intentionality. I have a smart phone and Internet at home, but I try to keep my phone on airplane mode in another room while my toddler is awake. I want to get where I batch checking it only once or twice a day. For music, I'm starting to buy more vinyl records so I can boost the mood in the house occasionally without getting distracted with streaming. For me, workable rhythms and swaps have been key.
Thank you for sharing! Even though it wasn't a success, it's good to hear the pros and cons of this experiment and experience! Always love you guys' videos!
When Elijah goes “who does that?!?!?” Regarding the trends of “i did this so you don’t have too”. HAHAHAHA. Made me laugh out loud!! So true. Love you guys and your authentic nature!
Thank you so much, as always, for sharing your guy's journey with us! I love how informative your videos are; I always find myself reaching for my notebook to take notes because you guys have such good insights! I am super inspired by the way you are able to council together as a couple and create shared goals and plans for your family. I hope to be able to do the same someday!
I think Cal Newport recommends doing a similar detox and then adding back in the things you truly value like you are doing. I think he called it something like "zero-sum" time budgeting. Like the same way you'd do a zero sum budget for a business.
Haha not going to try it-will learn from you for sure! I do share your sentiments regarding online time during the day and being intentional with kids around. Thanks for a great chat
My husband and I keep talking about getting rid of our cell phones. We can’t wait until we are actually able to do this and it seems like it will hopefully be soon. Thank you
I love these tech conversations! Please give your viewpoint as how you do it from an online business point of view. I’m working on starting a blog but so much is put on using social media and honestly I don’t want to. I have a love/hate relationship with it 😂
Currently binge watching your videos and absolutely love you guys💕 I’m curious how you guys have time for those things that you want to do especially with 5 littles? I only have 2 and never get to the things I’d like to do or learn if I don’t stay up late but then it takes away time from my husband God bless !
I did it for about six weeks involuntarily as the company didn’t have time to setup in our new home. It was dangerous. I almost died. Spiked a 106 temp and couldn’t get ahold of anyone very quickly since cell coverage is also bad here and the internet boosts our cell phones to even work. I was standing at the edge of the yard, hemorrhaging and sweating, holding my phone up to boost signal and try to get ahold of medical help. 😮💨 😅 I don’t recommend doing this without at least a landline. We had no idea cell service was SO bad here and now that internet is setup, the cell phone also works fine.
I tried twice to get rid of my smart phone, but came back to it for taking pictures of the kids. Please tell me what you've done to replace the convenience of having a good camera on hand.
@@mktay2067I tried this, but how do you fight the urge to not redownload all the apps again? I need my smart phone for the conveniency, but I hateeee the easy access to the internet!

Katie I 💯 relate with you. I need to work on how much social media/youtube I am consuming thru out the day. Thank you❤
Yes! Another video of your favorite resources!
Katie! Do an episode on your awesome hair! After having my 4th things have just changed... for the worse! HA

Thank you guys this is so inspiring ♥️
Katie, be my pen pal! Kidding not kidding. ☺️
I like how Katie drove somewhere to order groceries, rather than just simply driving to the store. 😂 Still, mad respect in all other regards.
Wow Awesome! How did you work around talking with family living out of town, grocery ordering or anything that you need to buy online that is a need?
They have phones just not internet phones
This mother of six will totally be your penpal! 😂

They got rid of internet not their phones ability 🙂
I love it!!!

I dumbed my smart phone down. I deleted the internet access apps but still have text, phone, calendar, camera.

Hi, I adjust the speed. I slow down my Spanish videos to understand.
Slow the speed and put captions on so that you can learn English ❤
