@@stefanr.3495 I once put shampoo in my engine and somehow hair got into my oil filter, and oil in my hair. It sucked the bad day. Then to make the matter worse, my engine blew that same ole day. My engine told me that too much hair is bad, too. I always thought that the more hair the better from baldies. Well not necessarily, and especially if it's running up your back. End of story and keep your arm pits smelling good with deodorant. There needs to be a deodorant for the rear. You know where I come from, there are people that wear their underwear on their head, which I've always thought was a little of strange.

Yes, one CAN manipulate the viscosity index via additives known as viscosity index enhancers, which are polymers with molecules that wrap themselves out at lower temperatures, but unwrap and grab other oil molecules to make the average molecular size larger and render the oil more viscous to avoid excessive viscosity loss with increasing temperature. That's how they can make so many different grades of oil, from 0W-16 to 0W-40 and even 10W-60, with the same base oils.

Thanks Sergiu, it confirm my theory that Ravenol use pure PAO or Type-IV oil in some of their line instead of a mixture of PAO+HC-synthetic like most other brands. The problem with claimed Full synthetic is that mixing HC-synthetic type-III oil base with PAO or Ester Type-V with different ratios can be considered fully synthetic. This is why for instance, Mannol wrote their oil is fully synthetic but actually contains mineral oil with a large portion and they sell it 1/2 price of other brands for obvious reason.

Unfortunately this test was not repeated a few times with each oil. Lab testing requires repeated testing to underpin testing results. Further this test does not show wear of the oils under high shear circumstances over a certain time. High shear rates let mulitrange Motor oil wear out due to damages to the chains of the polymers that are in use as viscosifier to deliver temperature related viscosities.

@Sergiu Gabor might also be a good idea to test how they perform when they're worn, e.g diluted with e85 which happens fast on high power cars that still run a wet sump.
Then there is the question on how they perform when they are carrying contaminents (metals from the bearings) within them, and how they continue to lubricate with these contaminents still present

My bet in these tests one important factor is missing here , Oil Pressure , so what i want to say above all is . try yourself all the oils and see how your engine react to it . I'd be scared to go that high vis on that engine. It's got some tight passages that I'd want the thinner oil. It's not all about pressure unless you are running very high RPMs, it's about flow. Less flow can increase pressure but it's not what you want. I have 2 Audis, one 2.0tfsi and one 4.0t. The 2.0 has a big issue with the tentioner, I've already lost a few valves due to it. I've seen reports from oil engineers on "Bob is the Oil Guy" who have gone the other way, 0W40 on Ferrari engines that called for 10-60 initially and have positive results from oil anaysis.

Thanks for this test. One thing to keep in mind, there are many people that run these oils in winter for daily driven vehicles. So a cold flow test will always be beneficial. Understood, as racing wouldn't typically be done in extreme cold weather. But, you have to take into account of the average vehicle parked outside in the elimates for long periods of time. I myself am interested particularly in cold flow itself which was completely negated in this test. Keep up the good work with the channel and look forward to new content.

You can find on this channel a lot of test for regular use oils and there is a cold-flow test included in each of those. This is specifically for race spec oils - which you generally shouldn't put in daily driven cars.

i mean, would you use race oils for daily driven winter cars?

Using a racing oil in a road car in winter conditions is not smart. No need for the freezer test... Don't use racing oils.

I only buy Ravenol because of the excellent results in online tests and the fact that you can verify the purchased bottle on the website to ensure it's not a fake copy. Amsoil Signature Series is even better in my opinion, but I can't verify if it's not a fake copy.

Just fyi as you suspect, VI is defined by VII/VM polymer additives more than the base oil VI. You can see there are HC oils with VI over 200, so it doesn’t tell you anything.

Why no SHELL Helix Ultraracing 10W60?
It's better than any oil you are using in your (very well) test.
I'm using it since many years in various engines like 4G63, C20LET, X25XEI and EJ20.

    This is perfection.
I usually make conclusions on the pour point temperatures.
Anything under -50 will Most likely be a group IV or V.
A good example of a oil I use alot is the Castrol Edge 0W40 A3/B4, its specs make all 5W40 oils look like crap in comparison.

Hi there. Greetings from Guatemala, Central America. Excellent presentation. I have a 2005 BMW X3 2.5 with a M54 engine. I am currently using Liqui Moly 10W-40 (MoS2 Leichtlauf) oil. Any comments or suggestions on if I should continue using this oil or should I change of brand and/or grade.? Thanks in advance.

    Toate cele bune

How can Castrol not disclose HTHS in a high performance “race oil?” HTHS is one of the most important things I look for in an oil after manufacturer specs, ACEA grade and base stock (A3/B4 or C3 in my case). I wouldn’t call Castrol BAD but they’re certainly not always the best (maybe in certain oem specs they are… who knows).
