Anything off of "Blizzard of Ozz" or Diary of a Madman" is amazing! Randy Rhoads was the guitarist on those albums and he is easily one of the best guitarists of all time.
RIP Randy Rhoads. There will never be another like you. Taken WAY too early.
No no. Not one of. Either or. Either Randy or Eddie Van Halen. Let us be clear on that. As for substances if money can buy it, Ozzy's had it. There is a bloody good reason he is called the prince of darkness and the godfather of heavy metal. It was created in the 1960s and whomever you credit as first, he and his band mates in Black Sabbath helped create the sound. They were there then.
Randy Rhodes saved Ozzy . that man was a legend. His current guirarist Zakk Wylde learned from Randy. They poached Randy from Quiet Riot. That is a master class in how to play guitar.
2 of my favorite albums of all time.
@@raymo6795 mine 2 and I own the original vinyl LP’s !! 👍🏻😃
@@dankelly5150 I used to have them, I used them to clean the seeds out of my weed…. I wore out cassettes , records and cds of the first 2 Ozzy albums….I still listen to them
easily THE best of all time ;)
Randy was brilliant in his composition. Lots of classical influence. Lots of music theory. And it sounded good.
Also what a lot of people don't realize about Randy is that he was a self-taught guitarist
Randy Would have been greatest guitar player if that accident never happened. RIP. To the goat.
@@jimmyavsfan24 oh, absolutely true
Randy actually hated flying. He musta went berserk when the crazy pilot made his intentions known he wanted to buzz the tourbus.
@@FloridaRocks given that context, I'd think the same thing myself
The song is about ASTRAL PROJECTION (also known as astral travel) The term describes an intentional out-of-body experience that assumes the existence of a subtle body called an "astral body" through which consciousness can function separately from the physical body and travel throughout the astral plane.
Although Ozzy received partial song writing credit, the lyrics came mainly from bandmate, Bob Daisley.
I think Sharon screwed over Daisley, like most of the others than worked with Ozzy, that weren't Black Sabbath members.
I too have heard this. The state can be brought on artificially through breathing techniques and meditation. I have also heard at one time it was practiced on a large scale by many long term prisoners in the USA😳
@@gabrielpowers766 You think? I figured this is common knowledge at this point.
we just used to call it 'drugs' but, whatever....
@@mikestand5163 Exactly! Flying High had a totally different meaning for teens in the early 80's. 🍺🚀🪐
You can tell Randy's tone and technique a mile away. Very smooth going down. And his pyrotechnics contributes to the sound rather than overwhelms the song. RIP, buddy.
I agree. You can tell the great ones a mile away. Legends like Randy have a tone, their own distinct sound and technique that gives it away. No one wonders who's on the guitar when Eddie Van Halen starts playing either.
Randy's solos are always mindblowing.
@@swampghost8256 If I recall, he played each track he layered, didn't use recordings.
@@swampghost8256 Yeah. Playing the layers and just recording them instead of using a copy of the first take.
Don't forget about Jake e Lee ;)
Everyone he ever did. Was magical to me. The greatest ever.
Randy Rhoads guitar , Bob Daisley Bass, Lee Kerslake drums combo is what put Ozzy on the map, just a killer band that Ozzy never matched again.
Kerslake is killing it.
R.i.p
I think Black Sabbath put ozzy on the map.
@@Hartlor_Tayley this is the 2002 version, Lee Kerslake and Bob Daisley parts were removed and recorded with new recordings.
@@uofm4life735 I'm talking about his solo career, he was never as good after Sabbath as he was on those first 2 solo Lp's with that particular line up.
"So Tired", "Rock n Roll Rebel", "Lightning Striking", "Bark At the Moon", "Goodbye To Romance", "Diary of A Madman",... Ozzy is a Metal god...❤❤❤
So Tired will blow their minds. Diary is a masterpiece.
Man, no one has ever said So Tired before. Other than me I thought no one remembered it.
@@gabrielpowers766 so tired, I'd one of my favorite Ozzy songs!!!❤️❤️
The Ozzy catalogue goes so deep. I know his new stuff is overproduced to make up for his fading voice, but I still love hearing Ozzy come back for more because nobody sounds like him. His early stuff is where it's at but I'm just happy the man is still going because I can't get enough of that unique sound he has.
Did he legitimately write a single one of those songs?
Great song. Others here are right. His first two solo albums were absolute bangers.
Rhoads was one amazing guitarist.
Yes. Randy at his finest along with Ozzy's finest. Match made in heaven!
This solo is genius. I never get tired of it. Love how he goes off the beat but never loses it. Brilliant.
you have to put Randy in perspective, this was 41 years ago. No one had ever heard a sound like that come out of a guitar. We were blown away.
Brad : What did we just listen to ?
Me: Greatness that was taken away from us way too soon.
This song has gotten me more tickets than anything else!!!
Amen!!!
I can definitely see that. It’s a banger! I think mine is probably “Jesus Built my Hotrod” by Ministry.
@@mechanicalman1068 ooooooo
To this day, Randy's solo gives me goosebumps.
I never was a huge Ozzy fan back in the 80's, but this tune absolutely freaked me out. Randy's playing on this is almost supernatural. Bark At The Moon with Jake E Lee on the axe is another one.
many metal anthems on Ozzy's first 2 solo albums, every song is a classic. Jake was great, but never could fill Randy's shoes
@@raymo6795 Not comparing their skill levels. Just saying those two songs have my favorite guitar parts. 👍
@@funkster007 Don’t get me wrong, I am fan of Jake, and the Ozzy albums he played on. But Randy was special. That time was special. Ozzy had something to prove after Sabbath fired him, and he put together a band that became legend . 2 of the best , most original metal albums in history. Consider the mark that Randy made , and with only 2 studio albums. The truth is, excellent guitar players are a dime a dozen. There are tons of them, many, many extremely talented players, including Jake…and 100 others I can name. But Eddie and Randy stand head and shoulders above the rest. We got so much material from Eddie. He had a long , successful career . But Randy had a lot more to offer. One of metal’s greatest tragedies…..Badlands put out 2 excellent albums.
Jake was amazing and did a great job on the albums he did. I lost interest in ozzy after jake left.
@@raymo6795 Agree. Randy was definitely something special.
Yes! 🤘We got an Ozzy reaction at last... Randy Rhoads (guitarist) was classically trained fusing those stylings with metal. He was one of the most influential metal guitarists at the time inspiring many young people to even pick up a guitar.. Also one of the inventors of the neo-classical style of metal. Looking forward to more Ozzy.🦇
We all still love and miss, the one and only Randy Rhoads.
Randy Rhoads R.I.P. just an incredible talent and human being. There are some great guitarists in the history of rock and roll but very few left a legacy like Randy in such a short time. The first two Ozzy Osbourne albums are masterpieces thanks to Randy.
Randy had pilots licence think that's how he died🙏...😈🤘
Randy did not have a pilots license. The tour bus driver was a pilot and he was flying the plane ….the two passengers were Randy Rhoades and the tours hairdresser.
Randy was brilliant, no doubt and along with Van Halen ushered in a new era of guitar shredders. Unfortunately not everyone in the 80s was as good as these 2 or Steve Vai, Joe Satriani or Yngwie Malmsteen. Randy left us way too early but he and Ozzy were together for 2 great albums, from the same album that you just listened to, do You Can't Kill Rock n Roll, another all time Ozzy classic. Enjoy! 🎵🎸🎤🎹🎶
George Lynch was also a leaf off of that Randy Rhoades tree……he also worked at Delores Rhoades music school.
love every song of Ozzy's first 2 solo releases...another good listen is "Speak Of The Devil", a live album with Brad Gillis on guitar
the first two solo albums with Randy were pure magic.
Finally!!! This is the guitarist that I’ve been mentioning for a long time: Randy Rhoads!!! Thank you for playing this magnificent track… Randy, Ozzy Lee Kerslake and Bob Daisley were powerhouses. Randy was Ozzy’s first guitarist once he was kicked out of Black Sabbath. He was originally the axeman (and founder) of Quiet Riot. He and Bob wrote the lyrics for this album, Diary of a Madman, and the first release, Blizzard of Ozz… Bob and Lee were fired by their manager, Sharon Osbourne, and replaced by the powerhouses, Rudy Sarzo and Tommy Aldridge (who both later played for Whitesnake). On their way to Orlando to play a gig with Foreigner, Randy (who had a fear of flying) and Rachel Youngblood, the elderly hairstylist of the band, were asked by their tour bus driver to join him on a small plane ride by the bus driver (who also flew planes). Randy wanted to take some pictures for his mom, so they both joined for a quick trip. Little did they know that the bus driver was high off cocaine and had been fighting with his wife on the bus all night. Needless to say, he began flying the plane toward his wife standing outside watching them. Randy was trying to get the man stop, from what was said by onlookers, and the plane crashed into their bus and over into a tree and house that they were next. All three passengers were killed instantly. Ozzy and his crew were sleeping on the bus had no idea what was going on. In 1987, the live album of them was the third and last of release of Randy Rhoads with Ozzy (although, there has been footage, which had never been released, as well). Big shout to Randy, Ozzy, their incredible band and friends throughout the years. Listen to these in their entireties, but you must hear “Mister Crowley”, “Diary of a Man”, “Believer”, “S.A.T.O.”, “You Can’t Kill Rock and Roll”, “Flying High Again”, “I Don’t Know”, “Crazy Train”, “Goodbye to Romance “, “Revelation” and “Steal Away (the Night)”… Classics!!! Randy and Eddie Van Halen were considered the Kings of the Guitar due their drastically different styles. People initially flocked to EVH for his amazing chops, but when Randy Rhoads came out several years later, people lost their minds… Nobody had played like him ever!! RIP RR and EVH!!
great post Kyle!...its been said that in the early 80s you could see VH, Rhoads and Lynch in a weekend in L.A....George is the only one still with us Kyle
@@raymo6795 George is one of my favorite players!! Apparently, Randy was playing one Lynch’s Grover Jackson guitars and that inspired him to get one himself. Grover didn’t want to put the name of his brand, Charvel, on it, so he put his name, Jackson on top. That made Randy’s offset Flying V the very first Jackson guitar, The Concorde. People loved it and Jackson became a brand new axe brand… George was actually hired by Ozzy first, but he was local to his group, Dokken. That’s when Randy got hired. Lynch took Rhoads’ position as teacher Randy’s mother’s music school, Musonia. George Lynch tried to get the position once Randy passed away, and would have been hired (he actually went on the road with Ozzy for a moment to learn the songs), but Jake E. Lee came in tried out and he was fired and sent home. Great post, Raymo67!!
@@kylewilliams6184 …don’t forget Brad Gillis, who toured with Ozzy on the “ Speak of the Devil” album, another of my favorites.I think that album was made to fill obligations with the label
@@raymo6795 Definitely… Brad did heck of a job filling for Ozzy during that time. He still adores a few of those songs live with his original group, Night Ranger… One person I’ve never heard much of his Randy’s original replacement who recently passed away, Bernie Torme. He stepped in when Rhoads passed away, filling the supposed replacement Rudy Sarzo’s brother, Robert.
My second concert I ever went to was Ozzy. December 1981. Randy Rhoads was my favorite guitar player. I was 14. Right against the stage watching and listening. He was incredible. This was the first song they played. I'll never forget it. Thank you for reacting. Love you guys.
That's awesome! I wish I could have seen Randy live but never did. My first concert was Van Halen, less than a year after you saw Ozzy, and I was also 14.
One of my favorite Ozzy tracks but then, there's quite a few of them. Flying high again is great to.
Wife here..,WOW..One of my ABSOLUTE Favorite Ozzy songs!!..Randy Rhodes was An AMAZING Guitarist!!
More Randy era Ozzy please!!!
Next do “I don’t know” off Blizzard of Ozz
the drums always blow me away on this track, compliment the guitar part so well
TOMMY!
GOD the Intro..........
IS Fxxxing AWESOME!
Ozzy is my hero. I have all his albums, even the latest Patient No9. Awesome! He truly is one of a kind.
G'damn right Randy f'n Rhoads! Only he can be so tasteful and badass at same time!
**The only guitarist ever to give Eddie Van Halen a run for his money, ladies and gentlemen, MR. RANDY RHODES!!!!!!**
The last idol I ever allowed myself to have (they all kept dying LOL). His integration of classical and rock guitar astounded everyone at the time, so much so that they forgot about EVH for a hot minute. In ways he was better than EVH, his use of triplets and amazing chord progressions (mostly classical) for example. Sure a lot of people can sort of play and duplicate (but never exactly) what he played but HE is the one that composed those songs, it came from his brain and fingers. No one will ever come close to what this man accomplished in the span of 2 albums in a few short years before his life was sadly cut short in a *FUCKING STUPID* accident that never should have happened. The music world was robbed that day and every year I hold a vigil an mourn his death. After the tour they were on when Randy was tragically killed, Randy was going to quit playing with Ozzy and continue his study of classical guitar. Can you imagine what he would have been capable of??? The man was only 25 when he died, in the prime of his life. I can only imagine and I mourn the loss to the music world of what this man might have accomplished.
Suggestions: *ANYTHING* off Diary of a Madman or Blizzard of Oz will do. I Don't Know, Revelation Mother earth/Steal Away The Night, Diary of a Madman, S.A.T.O., and Little Dolls are excellent choices.
Peace
Guess you never heard of Allan Holdsworth? EVH was in awe of Holdsworth.
Randy's solo in this song never gets old, absolutely mind bending.
Yes, Randy Rhoads . RIP 🤘🏻🎸
Brad's intrigued face at the end of the solo (starts around 3:44). Priceless.
I always thought the song was about astral projection. He sings about the traveling through the astral plane.
It's sort of depicted in Marvel's Doctor Strange.
Yes it was Randy. he grew up on classical music (theory and composition). He used that background to compose his guitar playing - and that along with pure talent and skill why his performances are so legendary; they're designed under the purview of a composer would put together a classical orchestration piece.
Ozzy is definitely on the top of my list.
Ozzy rocks!!!
This whole album is amazing!!
Hey guys what's up! Randy was just brilliant! I can't imagine what he would have done if he would have lived. He's been gone for such a long time, but it seems like yesterday I was popping in that cassette and being blown away by one of the Masters of guitar. You guys rock! God bless you! Peace!
A part of being a skilled soloist is the ability to sound like you're going off the rails(hehe) and then pull it together in a skillfull way. Randy was a god.
one of the greatest metal solos ever!!
You just listened to creme de la creme. One of the finest tracks from Ozzy as far as I'm concerned. 🤟🤟
Randy is the guitar hero of many generations! RIP 🙋🌹🕊️
I love Randy’s influence on Ozzy albums. Randy helped Ozzy get his “metal god” status. I’d love to hear more “classic” Oz
The studio recordings were great, but Randy was one of those musicians who was even better live. It's a tragedy there isn't more live footage of him playing. Taken way, way too soon RIP.
Great to see our younger generation discovering all kinds of new music, especially metal! Rock on! P.S. Give “You can’t kill Rock n roll” a spin sometime.
Absolutely 🤘
Great band and you should hear , goodbye to romance, great guitar work from Randy Rhoads.
When this LP was released, I was VERY skeptical. A friend of mine played it for me and I was blown away. Ozzy totally kicked ass with this new band he put together.
You cant kill Rock n Roll. So much brilliance. Cut short.
YEAH!!!!!!!!! OZZY with Randy Rhoads of guitar.
You Can’t Kill Rock And Roll by Ozzy is a must listen and has some of Randy’s best work.
When Ozzy, Randy and the band, come out of that solo with the rolling drums - it's arguably the greatest moment in metal music.
Randy was phenomenal. When I hear Randy or Eddie I can tell it's them playing. Randys style was different , he had a big classical element to his playing. Just one of a kind fantastic.
Agreed. You know right away who is playing guitar. Randy and Eddie both have distinctive tones and techniques. Their own sound.
A masterpiece of an album, you need to listen to the entire album.
Yes Lex, that is the man himself. Randy was such a huge loss.
That first guitar solo started with a tri-tone that references the song Black Sabbath. Also the synthetic thing sounded like a voice saying I'm Free
Flying High Again and Tonight (same album) are gems!!! My mother lost her mind (her name is Karen btw) when I bought this album when it first came out.
Plus you can't kill rock and roll.
My mom's name is Karen, and she bought me this album when I was 12, lol.
“Noises I’ve never heard before...” love that comment. My favorite rock solo of all time...he’s absolutely shredding. Randy definitely went to the Crossroads.
the most amazing thing about Randy is he wrote all these songs back to back with Ozzy and recorded two full albums and then went on tour for BoC and 18 months later back on tour for DoaM when it was released.... both albums are so different and for 2 years + he had been on tour with Ozzy when he died. what had he created musically in that time we will never know but I would beat it was amazing... Randy is one of the greatest guitarist to ever live and a musician the likes of we might never see again
It's probably been 20 years since I've heard this song and it just gave me vivid flashbacks to listening to that solo on repeat for an hour
Randy is the GOAT
Randy!! Awesome reaction y’all!
The first metal album I heard was Diary of a Madman in 1983. Then I had to get that album and Blizzard of Oz. I started playing guitar at age 3 in 1974, when I heard these albums in 1983, not only did I become a life long Ozzy fan, but idolised Randy Rhoads and have been playing metal guitar ever since.
Y'all witnessed the most genius musical men ever
this is Ozzy in his hey day, this is kick ass Ozzy
Yes, it's Randy Rhoads, my fave guitarist. Astral travel is what this song is about. Great reaction, much love&respect...
Anything with Randy is phenomenal. Especially live. Must do anything from the Tribute album.
Great reaction that’s what a lot of people said when this came out, there so many songs off of this album you must go back to it please 🙏 you won’t be disappointed 🎸🔥
I sing in a Ozzy tribute band I have an excellent guitar player the crowd goes crazy when we perform this awesome song! Randy was a very special guitar player RIP.
The guitarist you liked Brad, Gary Moore, was the one who finally persuaded Randy to join Ozzy's band. He was living by Ozzy at the time, and helped him audition guitarists Randy and Gary were both one off amazing players.
I can tell how much you love the amazing guitar work Lex
Ozzy is an absolute rock icon!! Just incredible!!
What you just listened to is one of the greatest rock songs ever!
That was indeed Randy Rhodes on guitar on this song, Lex
Rhoads.
One of my many favorites by OZZY I had the chance to see Randy with Ozzy forever etched in my mind
one of the all time great metal albums.
“Astro-plane I travel through.” He’s definitely talking about tripping balls 😂
Ah, back when Ozzy was good. Thanks for posting this one!
Lex looked like she enjoyed it! I still remember when I was quite young around 1986 attending an Ozzy concert with Metallica as the opening act . Ozzy came out on the stage to Carl Orff’s epic ‘O Fortuna.’ The scent of marijuana was palpable. great show !
Randy Rhoads! Lex, you nailed it! Brad, I am glad you enjoyed it too!
Randy was on Ozzy’s first 2 albums before he passed. The little added guitar parts are called fills.
Randy just brought out the very best in Ozzy.
One of Ozzy's best songs. One of the best guitar solos of all time. Randy Rhoads. A master.
Randy shakes his guitar in the solo. Awesome.
If I'm not mistaken, studio bassist Robert Daisley wrote the lyrics of this song. If you can get a hold of an original CD (before the remaster) with him playing bass and Lee Kerslake playing drums, that would be best. For the descending runs on this song, Randy played the Phrygian minor scale and for the ascending run in the main solo, he used a pentatonic scale. I'm still not sure exactly how he played the exaggerated whammy bar parts except that he was hammering on and pulling off 2 notes on the B string; even he had a hard time reproducing that exactly in concert. What's even more incredible is watching footage of Jake E. Lee playing this live because he didn't use a whammy bar at all; instead he would de-tune and re-tune a string to get the whammy bar effect as well as use his picking hand to bend notes "behind" the fretting hand, and bending the guitar neck (which warps it over time). There are a few keyboard parts in this song too (on the album, not so much live), so it's not all guitar. *Ozzy Osbourne - Over The Mountain (Live)* (yWfSyhcJyHw)
Man, I wore this tape out in the early 80s! This and Blizzard of Oz! And you could hear me coming from a mile away with the stereo I had in my piece of shit car!
I was lucky enough to see Randy Rhoads in Dallas, Diary of a Madman tour. He passed away a month later. One of the greatest ever!!!
I love "Blizzard of Oz", but this album "Diary of a Madman" to me is not only Ozzy's best but one of the greatest rock albums ever. It would definitely be one of my "deserted island" records!!
Bob Daisley and Lee Kerslake on bass and drums did rock with Randy Rhoads on guitar. Check out S.A.T.O. from the same album. The bass and drums are phenomenal on that song. So are the guitar
Thanx for mentioning that, no one ever says anything about the stellar drumwork on these 2 albums, Randy kinda steals the spotlight. Good on you bro!!!!!
Randy took Ozzys music to a level that hasn’t been matched to this day
Sweet! This is one of my favorite Ozzy songs. Thanks for reacting to it. I love the message it sends. And I love Randys solo in this
I remember when this album came out. It was awesome. The whole album is great.
My favorite guitarist for 40 years now.
Randy Rhodes and Eddie Van Halen hit the rock scene about the same time...Rhodes was like a comet who gave us some incredible music, similar training as Van Halen, then, he's gone....I always wonder what if he didn't perish...These two amazing guitar players challenging each other....Over the Mountain, Crazy Train, and Flying High Again are the trifecta of head banging excellence!
Yes, those were the two most talented guitar players in my opinion. They were awesome!
Diary of a Madman and Blizzard of Oz are Ozzy's 2 best albums outside of Black Sabbath. I hope you react to more songs off of these two albums. They will not disappoint. Randy was an insane guitar player.
I love both you guys. This reaction is why I watch. Great channel.
I think Ozzy is not often given credit for the amazing lyrics that he has written for his solo career and with Black Sabbath. He and Randy Rhoads were a dynamic pairing and there will not ever be another like them EVER! RIP Randy and thank you for all the music you gave us!
omg got this when it came out and the entire thing STILL kills! RIP Randy.
Smokin a bowl for the Oz man.
This was the song that made me an Ozzy fan back when i was 19!
Yes, Randy Rhoads on guitar...🤘🤘 Ozzy's first guitarist... Unbelievable he never heard of Ozzy or Black Sabbath when he joined Ozzy's solo band in 1980. He had recorded 2 albums w/ L.A. rockers Quiet Riot, but his material w/ Ozzy was just miles ahead of his past work because Ozzy had a talent for creating melodies and when he heard Randy play, they would inspire each other creatively... Bassist Bob Daisley wrote the lyrics to Ozzy's ideas... Late Uriah Heep drummer Lee Kerslake played the beat.
The footage and tapes from Randy Rhoads' life are very limited... When Ozzy filmed the concert video 'Speak of the devil' in 1982, guitarist Brad Gillis was playing Randy's guitar parts in concert.
This was the 2nd Ozzy solo album 'Diary of a Madman' which was recorded after the completion of the 1st album 'Blizzard of Ozz'... Ozzy took his band on the road from 1980 til 1982, and in the middle, Quiet Riot bassist Rudy Sarzo and Pat Travers drummer Tommy Aldridge joined the band... Randy was killed in a small engine plane crash on tour in 1982 - He was only 24.
Ozzy had fill-in guitarists finish the tour...
Randy Roades actually taught Joe Satriani.
Satch was one of Randy's students.
I saw the diary of a madman tour around 3 months before the plane crash.
Randy was an amazing player.
Yes that was Randy. RIP. A MUST on this album is the title track "Diary of a Madman"! The shit Randy did and him being that young was mind blowing. We can sadly only imagine what he would have been up to if his career wasn't cut so tragically short 😭Sadge
