A very popular English hymn sang every morning at assembly in primary school, but i don`t think it`s ever been done better, just beautiful.
We didn't sound like this though.
.
I'd like to go back to hear my school and myself singing it.
.
Along with 'Do Shepherds Wash Their Socks At Night'.
.
@@michaelharvey75 'In ex-Chelsea deo...'
I thought it was just our school head who was obsessed with it when i was a kid in primary school in England - but clearly it was lots. And Lord of the Dance
My school too...also been to a few funerals where this has been played
It's in the United Church of Christ (progressive church) hymnal, and at first I was like, why is Cat Stevens song in there? I believe the music is a Scottish folk tune. I think there is depth to this that is not in the original, even with organ.
Cat Stevens is wonderful!! Tea for the Tillerman is an absolutely one of the best albums. Glad you reacted!
Don't forget Teaser and the Firecat!
Morning has Broken was on the Teaser and the Firecat album. Both Teaser and the Firecat and Tea for the Tillerman are masterpieces.
As I'm sure many will comment, this is the great Rick Wakeman (from the band Yes) on piano. Cat needed something to fill out what was quite a short song. Rick "borrowed" one of his own melodies, from what would eventually be his Six Wives of Henry the Eighth, for the piano parts.
I have loved this song for decades now and did not know that. I thought it was Cat
Had no idea.
Cool! I never would have guessed that was Rick Wakeman, but I always thought parts of the the melody sounded familiar. Thanks for sharing! 😎
Now that you say that, I totally hear that unmistakable Rick Wakeman sound. I should have known.
Didn't know that...thanks!
If I'm in dark, bad place this "fixes" it every time. Thankfulness goes a long, long way. 🕊 ☮
Amen 🙌
Cat Stevens made this hymn very popular, a beautiful version!
about the only tune I can play the melody from on the piano with no music ( + mull of kintyre) . Learnt the straight bit on violin.
Cat Stevens didn't write this song, but his rendition is heavenly.
The style that Jim Croce and Cat Stevens played in was nicknamed Singer-Songwriter back in the day. The singer was the songwriter and the instruments usually emphasized acoustic guitar and/or piano. James Taylor, Harry Chapin and Gordon Lightfoot were other prominent examples from that era.
There were women too!
@@leonardshevlin7260 Yes there were! Joni Mitchell, Melanie, Carole King, Carly Simon, to name just a few.
"Praise for them springing fresh from the World." He's singing to you. Mama Lex.
"Well's, it actually, "Prase for them springing fresh from The Word."
@@Nefarioso has it.
"Morning has broken, call the repair man. He'd better fix it before the night falls." When we were teenagers we couldn't leave something slow and beautiful alone.
😂
That was really funny. You had me laughing really loud. I can remember being a teenager and doing the same thing. When Jimi hendrix sang excuse me while I kiss the sky, we used to say excuse me while I kiss this guy.
Big ol' jet had a light on....
just to lower the tone ( apologies ) we used to make a song up out of two - Bye Bye Baby ( Bay City Rollers) and Funky Gibbon ( The Goodies) and go around the playground singing it
" youre the one girl that i would marry
Big t*ts and a hairy f*nny
You f*** me and ill f*** you
All together now
ooohh ooohh ooohh
The song is a Christian hymn from 1931. The words were written by Eleanor Farjeon who git her inspiration from the village Alfriston in East Sussex. The music is a traditional Scottish Gaelic tune, Bunessan.
Always loved Cat Stevens. Do Peace Train if you haven't already. Great song.
Cat Stevens played the acoustic guitar. That's actually Rick Wakeman on piano. He was most notably the keyboardist with Yes. You heard him on the song Roundabout. But he did a lot of studio work back then, including a couple songs by David Bowie, like 'Life On Mars'.
Also played on Sabbra Cadabra with Black Sabbath
We had this song sung at our wedding over 40 years ago. Simply beautiful.

Ditto Steve - Also sung at my wedding 1979
Lex, cCat Stevens is the most chill vibe. Check out albums Teaser and the Firecat and Tea for the tillerman. Perfect background music for a house with a newborn baby. I know cause we did with our twin boys years ago. Be Blessed guys
Brad must be an amazing guy because you have been simply glowing for 8+ months carrying his child. It is very precious to watch from afar!
Right?! 😁
Love this song.....Cat just had a beautiful soothing voice like John Denver 🕊️💜
Ha! That’s funny, cuz I don’t think I could name 2 voices that are more different than Cat & JDenver!
We sing this at Mass. It is actually a hymn.
LOVE YOU GUYS! Watching your reaction to music I grew up with are some of the best moments of my day. The two of you always bring a smile to this old man's face.
Rick Wakeman of Yes is playing the piano on this song.
He is a gentle and kind man. Great music, so happy you found him
On my list of favourites. An exquisite composition and recording. Hear those flutes at the end? And the background singing...
This song makes me think of Jesus always, The hymn was written to praise God for his beautiful creation. It is about Jesus who is God Incarnate walking through the beautiful Garden of Eden enjoying all the wonderful creation he has made. Cat Stevens voice is so beautiful and the piano as well.
I always say a prayer for Cat Stevens to know Jesus before he leaves this world when I listen to this song. ❤️
Amen.
I agree and would love Cat to become a Christian , but he will still know Jesus as a prophet in Islam .
@@scooby1992 But he won't know Jesus as his true self.
This is an absolutely gorgeous song with a beautiful melody. I would have thought you'd like it more
Well they put “beautiful” in the headline in capital letters, so they clearly rated it highly.
Morning has Broken is a religious hymn writen by Eleonor Farjeon. Cat Stevens asked Rick Wakeman (YES' ex keyboard player and, proclaimed as The Best Keyboard Player by Progressive Rock Magazine) to play in it. 0:49
I haven't really been able to listen to Cat Stevens since 9/11.
Or since he joined in the fatwa (death hit) against a "blasphemer".
Its a morning prayer about gratfulness. I've been listening to since I was 8 years old.
As beautiful as this is, and he has a bunch of great songs, my absolute favorite of all time is Wild World.
He has a great voice. He's still singing at 74 years old but change his name to Yusuf Islam.
I love Cat Stevens. So good.
Sang this hymn a lot at Primary School assembly - which is up to age 11 in England - and at Methodist Church. Wonderful!
Used to sing this in school ,. Such a beautiful song
Magical piano from Yes's Rick Wakeman. Who also played on David Bowie's Life on Mars.
Such a beautiful song, how can you not get goosebumps listening to it!
Yes. Song made by god.
Its very, very interesting how this song was put on earth.
After being very ill, he found the Lyrics in an old irish? Churchbook from 18th century?.
Lyrics are not from Cat.
Piano is not from Cat.
Wakeman earned 18£ by check, which never arrived.
The story about this song is so curious.
So, I think its made by god…by incident…sorry, i am german.
Rick Wakeman actually played piano on this song
Cat Stevens suffered major damage to his career by converting to Islam. As a Jew, I still love his music and respect his decision. In other words, I’m not burning his albums like some fanatical people.🖖🏼
He didn’t suffer damage to his career. Rather he left his career behind. The business side of the music industry was destroying him and he sought something deeper and more meaningful. Only fairly recently he had returned to music as Yusuf Islam.
Of course this song is about God enjoying his creation as he walks through the garden of Eden. As a kid, I had heard this song a thousand times but did not pay enough attention to the details of the lyrics until I was an adult.
check out Another Saturday Night it's a way more upbeat song from Cat Stevens.
The piano was played by Rick Wakeman, of Yes.
WHAT A SENSITIVE ARTIST...!I ALWAYS LIKE+ALSO TO HIS MUSIC IN THE MOVIE:''''BROTHER SUN+SISTER MOON''''73 i think...one of my best movies ever...i was a teen...back then.CHECK IT OUT if you like💙also..'''. BABY BABY ITS A WILD WORLD'''sooo nice memories...
Such a beautiful version of this hymn...I first heard it in Sunday School at church when I was 10 in 1972 and thought it was the most beautiful song even if you're not religious.
Yusuf Islam, por su nombre tras su conversión al islam, más conocido por su nombre artístico Cat Stevens (nacido como Steven Demetre Georgiou; Londres, 21 de julio de 1948), es un cantautor, compositor y multinstrumentista británico.
Beautiful song, of course. But I hate when they get the lyrics wrong. It's not "fresh from the world", it's "fresh from the word", because God spoke the world into existence. And it's not "Eden saw play", it's "Eden saw plain", because Adam and Eve saw God plainly.
Cat had a string of stellar albums, very deep thinker and huge talent.
This song can be found in hymnals over 100 years old.
Do some Metal already! Lol enuff of this old fart shh.
🌹Lex's Metal Show☠️
Do: Killswitch Engage "My Curse"
🤘💀✌️
Just to note, Cat Stevens didn't write this. "Morning Has Broken" was written by English author Eleanor Farjeon as a hymn, way back in 1931. The lyrics on the video aren't entirely accurate, in the first verse it should read "Fresh from the Word" not "Fresh from the World", as in the Word of God creating the Garden of Eden, echoing "God's re-creation" of that first day in that garden.
That's Rick Wakeman from yes doing the keyboards. I don't know if it's true but he said that he never got paid for coming up with that riff on the keys?
Cat sings and plays the guitar.
It’s true Rick Wakeman said as much in an anecdote during a recent concert. Never got paid. Don’t think he was particularly bothered though.
when we were out to sea they would play this song as the sun would rise over the sea in early morning, left a lasting impression on me.
And yet no one remembers Cat Stevens for spearheading the campaign to kill Salman Rushdie..
Sweet. The same Cat Stevens/Yussuf Islam who later said he would personally kill Salman Rushdie.
I was in love with Cat Stevens like so many including Carly Simon, he's such an incredible lyricist and storyteller. Thanks Brad and Lex
Nope. Cat isn't playing the piano. He plays guitar. Probably my favorite song that celebrates creation.
This is a Christian church hymn from the early 1900's. It is still sung today. It has Scottish and somewhat Gaelic roots.
Watching Lex place her hand over her baby during this beautiful song is so heartwarming.
Not him on piano. He's playing the guitar and there is a rather chubby guy playing the piano exquisitely. Beautiful music, beautiful song. Ode to God's creation.
Sounds like that grumpy old sod from Yes
Bet he had a sneaky curry as well.
Cat Stevens was a sound of a it’s own, his guitar work, and storytelling was just unbelievable. When he gave up music, it just broke my heart. Changed his name to Yusuf Islam and was done with it. It took many years for him to get back into the music industry. Need to check out him now playing my favorite song “father and son“ on stage with his acoustic dedicating the song to his son.
"Do you think he played piano?" "Yes" Appropriate answer. :)
Learned this at school as a hymn. Takes me back..
Lex, I think you could call it a 'singer/songwriter' vibe. A genre that's generally (not always) softer, more contemplative, personal and very melodic. And, yes, Jim Croce would fit that category. Also, include James Taylor, Gordon Lightfoot, Joni Mitchell, Carole King, Seals and Crofts, CSN&Y, Tracey Chapman, Paul Simon and many more. It's heyday was the early 70's, though.
Piano is played by Rick Wakeman
cat plays guitar
You should watch the movie Harold and maude that were all music came from
Lovely arrangement of an old hymn , Rick Wakeman on piano.
You're right, it would be beautiful with an interpretive dance
Something about the one piano riff reminds me of a Billy Joel tune.
Thanks for the lyrics. I've been singing a line wrong for 50 years!...lol (Sweet Lorraine instead of sweet the rain) D'oh!
I would check another source. Lyric videos get it wrong sometimes
You should hear Metallica cover this song.😄
Soon it will be…. Water has broken get to the maternity ward 😂.
This song was in our church hymnal. Once this song came out, all of us kids would repeatedly request it to be sung!
Tea for the Tillerman was another great album mom had in her collection. It's just solid with amazing songs!
The style or genre is "singer-songwriter" - Croce, Denver, Joni Mitchell, Harry Chapin, Cat of course, James Taylor.
The two songs I love by Cat Stevens are "Wild World" and "Father & Song"... just fantastic songs.
2/11/23
He was a lot better then, when he was about beauty and peace before he became Yusuf Islam and advocated for the death of Salman Rushdie.
That was over 30 years ago... give it a rest.
@@marcillioficino4663 facts are facts. They don't disappear with the passing of time
What a beautiful peaceful song , you can feel and smell and hear and feel it in the song of morning breaking , and the wonderful feeling of a bright new day I think to me this is played and should be played too on EAster morning . I love it.
This is an old church song. But he did a lovely rendition.
That's Rick Wakeman of Yes fame on the piano.
You need to check out Sitting by Car Stevens
Old 70's hippie folk music.
No, that’s Rick Wakeman on piano.
How can you not love this song??? I'm glad he's singing his old songs again....
You guys weren’t born yet when this Song was Written. Thank you for Easing into the past, and the Future of Rock And Roll!!
Check out his "Boy With A Moon And Star On His Head".
They played this song in church at my mothers funeral. It was one of her favorite songs.
I love this song!
WHEN I Was 14 yrs old.Yup Many years
Remember guys that Cat Stevens is from Greece and was something of a mystic dude who ended up later becoming a muslim and a fanatic at that. This song gives a bit of an idea as to what he will become later as he marvels upon God's creation and its beauty.
'Steven Demetre Georgiou, born on 21 July 1948 in the Marylebone area of London, was the youngest child of a Cypriot father, Stavros Georgiou (1900-1978), and a Swedish mother, Ingrid Wickman (1915-1989). CYPRUS, they do speak Greek though.
check out how can i tell you by cat stevens
More 1972. Heavenly.
We use to sing this hymn at school assembly back in the early sixties. It was first a hymn.
@user-nv3bq5pr3x hi thanks for the invite
Every special event funeral or wedding this has been sung or played for my family
Much like The Beatles' Here Comes The Sun, this song is so pretty it always gets me choked up.
Piano sounds like Billy Joel.
Could you please reacting to the song This Is by Aslan Christy Is near the end and it’s a beautiful one
Nobody ever heard of it.
Attended a Carnegie Hall concert of his fifty years ago…wonderful.
The words to this song goes back to the 1800's. Fabulous rendition !
I used to adore Cat Stevens. 💟 I had his album "Tea For The Tillerman". There's not a single bad song on it. ⭐😁
Cat 🔥
That was great havent heard this in years! Thanks guys that baby is almost here!
This song is so beautiful. When it comes on randomly on my playlist, I usually play it 3 times in a row, and it sets me right. Listening to it again in my old age, it moved me very greatly, and I was inspired to learn to play it on my harmonica .
Love Moonshadow and Peacetrain
Words are by Eleanor Farjeon. Cat found her words when he randomly browsed through a second-hand book store.
