"Morning Has Broken" is a Christian hymn first published in 1931. It has words by English author Eleanor Farjeon and was inspired by the village of Alfriston in East Sussex, then set to a traditional Scottish Gaelic tune, "Bunessan" But sure, Cat Stevens made it popular.
I've just been following you a short time. I love your song selections as I'm 73 and grew up with all of this music. I love how you are so passionate about these beautiful songs. I've got plenty of suggestions but I'd rather hear what you find as I know it will be great
Richard Christopher Wakeman CBE is an English keyboardist and composer best known as a member of the progressive rock band Yes.The wizard of the keyboard.Have a look at Rick Wakeman Solo Medley ~ Yes ~ Live at Montreux [2003] [HD 1080p] It is just class.Thank you and stay safe.
OMG, SUCH memories! I came of age in the 70's, the age of guitar Mass, and this was a staple hymn at my high school. I get teary-eyed remembering my friends, and singing this together.
Try 1970-1 album Tea for the Tillerman. You seem to like really melodic, well written music. Try listening to the whole album. Back then albums were more of an experience when played though. One of my all time life favrite albums. If you liked Simon and Garfunkel I think you'd like more Cat Stevens. I've seem him live, a couple of years ago in NYC, mesmerizing.
Yusuf Islam, also known as Cat Stevens, is a prolific and gifted singer-songwriter. In this particular case, he put to music a famous poem written in 1931 by award-winning poet and children's author Eleanor Farjeon (1881-1965). Details here: Morning Has Broken by Eleanor Farjeon (lyrics, 1931) & Yusuf Islam (Cat Stevens) (music) Morning Has Broken Lyrics EMI Music Publishing, BMG Rights Management Piano by virtuoso Rick Wakeman Morning has broken like the first morning Blackbird has spoken like the first bird Praise for the singing Praise for the morning Praise for them springing fresh from the Word Sweet the rain's new fall, sunlit from heaven Like the first dewfall on the first grass Praise for the sweetness of the wet garden Sprung in completeness where His feet pass Mine is the sunlight Mine is the morning Born of the one light Eden saw play Praise with elation, praise ev'ry morning God's recreation of the new day Morning has broken like the first morning Blackbird has spoken like the first bird Praise for the singing Praise for the morning Praise for them springing fresh from the Word
This was before he got religion and became a member of a cult in which he blindly accepted the Iranian edict to murder author Salmon Rushdie. Sorry...he remains despicable for never renouncing that position!
This is one of those songs where I sang along to it, but never paid any attention to the meaning of the words. If I had thought about it at all, it would be obvious that this is a song of praise, but I just never thought about it, lol. It was just a pretty song. 🤷♀️😄
One of my all time favorite movies is Harold and Maude-the entire soundtrack is Cat Stevens songs🩷 it has been years since I’ve watched it. I’m going to watch again today! Thank you for reacting to it and to who ever requested it🩷🩷🩷
Whoa, my dear!!! This one takes me back to a great old school music. I Hope you will enjoy. I was always frown apon for playing and listening to this type of music amongst family &; friends because of me being black. It didn't matter to me. Love what you like.
Thanks for this reaction. It brought back a lot of memories. "Tea For The Tillerman" was one of the first albums I ever bought with my own money as an economically disadvantaged 14 year old. I also saw Yes in concert in LA in 1980, and I can personally testify to the fact that Rick Wakeman is most definitely THE keyboard wizard.
Cat Stevens struggled with his faith so much so he changed his name in the 1970s to Yusuf Islam. Rick Wakman is well one of the top 5 keyboardists of my lifetime.
Such a great song! Have always loved Cat Stevens' music. Great singer songwriter with a very unique sounding voice. One of my first albums I ever bought was his "Tea For The Tillerman" (1970). The whole album is great. So is the album "Teaser & The Firecat". He has had so many great songs in his career such as "Matthew & Son", "The First Cut Is The Deepest", "Wild World", "Moonshadow", "Peace Train" etc. He is still recording & performing live & his voice still sounds great.
a poem for you about morning -- The Valley's Singing Day THE sound of the closing outside door was all. You made no sound in the grass with your footfall, As far as you went from the door, which was not far; But you had awakened under the morning star The first song-bird that awakened all the rest. He could have slept but a moment more at best. Already determined dawn began to lay In place across a cloud the slender ray For prying beneath and forcing the lids of sight, And loosing the pent-up music of over-night. But dawn was not to begin their "pearly-pearly" (By which they mean the rain is pearls so early, Before it changes to diamonds in the sun), Neither was song that day to be self-begun. You had begun it, and if there needed proof-- I was asleep still under the dripping roof, My window curtain hung over the sill to wet; But I should awake to confirm your story yet; I should be willing to say and help you say That once you had opened the valley's singing day. - Robert Frost
It is absolutely GORGEOUS. My momma and daddy had Cat Steven's Year of the Cat on vinyl. They had a couple hundred vinyls and I listened to every single one by the time I was 11-12 yo old. I LOVE music.
I don't believe this is a genuine performance and the voice is from a young Cat Stevens. Looks like two separate performances put together although the song is a beautiful classic. I remember singing it in morning assembly at school.
Since this error is so ubiquitous, I feel it needs to be pointed out on every lyric video: The last line of the first (and repeated as the last) verse is "Praise for them springing fresh from the Word".

The piano player is none other than the virtuoso Rick Wakeman from YES. Beautiful music indeed, dear Sarah.
Ohh he’s brilliant!
I was going to ask... no wonder.
They are both amazing musical artists. The cream of the crop
and he played piano on bowie's, 'life on mars'!!!

Hearing this song, I'm back in my Catholic high school, singing this at our guitar Masses. It's so beautiful and so simple.
Beautiful song!! I’ve always enjoyed Cat Stevens’ music!!
I know I speak for so many when I say, watching your reactions to songs like this are a genuine boon to my quality of life! Thank you Sarah.
My pleasure!!

Sarah, you are as inspiring as is this most inspiring and beautiful song. You are one of my very favorite reactors.
Now try hearing "Moon Shadow" the video is animated.
One of my favorite songs from Cat Stevens.
It's a beautiful song. When I vacationed in Aruba many yrs ago, I played this each morning having coffee on the beach.

As beautiful as this song is through the ages, the memories we have of it being played when it was released are so special. They add to the song..

Brilliant Singer love his music.
Hi Sarah, your reactions are superb~ Peace to you, Dear~
So gorgeous. my daughter and I use to sing this song together when we lived in the mountains.
You're a beautiful soul ❤️ I love watching your reactions
Yusuf Islam is his name now since 1978, converted to islam, born as Stephen Demetre Giourgiou. He was always about peace
used to sing this in assembly at school
Cat's voice hasn't changed with age, still beautiful.
Many churches have incorperated this song into their Sunday services all over the world

Your appreciation for all kinds of music is so amazing and so are you!❤
We sing this at my Catholic church.
Yes, because it is actually a Christian hymn.
I never understood why Cat Stevens does not give credit to the rightful writers.

I'm an atheist but if you're not moved by this, there's something not quite with you.

I discovered you today. You are so lovely to watch. Love to you and yours. ❤
I had literally no idea that Rick Wakeman played on this.
Whoa, my dear!!! This one takes me back to a great old school music. I Hope you will enjoy. I was always frown apon for playing and listening to this type of music amongst family &; friends because of me being black. It didn't matter to me. Love what you like.
Any early Cat Stevens is a good bet. "Tea for the Tiller Man" & "Teaser & the Firecat" are great to start with. Love & Light & good music.

One of the most beautiful songs ever written or performed.
Wakeman and Cat? Yes Please!
An example of why Cat (Yusuf) is in rock n roll hall of fame.
Cat Stevens struggled with his faith so much so he changed his name in the 1970s to Yusuf Islam. Rick Wakman is well one of the top 5 keyboardists of my lifetime.

@@mikemiller3069 Sarah reacted to that one already.
@@dagmar.6954 Good to know but I was replying to the list of his hits and saying that you can't leave that one out when listing his hits.
Yes. Thank you my dear. Love this track.❤

Lovely reaction, Sarah.
Cat Stevens emerged as an epic talent in the early 1970s.
I would encourage you to give a listen to "Peace Train." ❤
Our wedding song from our wedding 49 1/2 years ago. Never get tired of it.
Wow. You are finding some great stuff lately. This just stunning. But the album track is just as good actually.
It is absolutely GORGEOUS. My momma and daddy had Cat Steven's Year of the Cat on vinyl. They had a couple hundred vinyls and I listened to every single one by the time I was 11-12 yo old. I LOVE music.
: Cat Stevens was with Carly Simon for a while. She wrote songs about him. Anticipation was one ...
Yes, beautiful and transcending ❤ so good to see your beautiful reaction 😊
I don't believe this is a genuine performance and the voice is from a young Cat Stevens. Looks like two separate performances put together although the song is a beautiful classic. I remember singing it in morning assembly at school.
Yes, THIS music is def from the original lp, with visuals of Cat&Rick decades later... And, where's the backup vocalists?!? 🤔
Nice to see you listening to this masterpiece for first time. Your such a lovely lady.

CAT STEVENS oitava MARAVILHA.❤
Without question a lip sync from Cat Stephens. Way to perfect to the studio version.
I first heard this back in the late 80s when I was a tender child. My parents loved him, and I love him, too ❤️

Nice to hear that the old Cat Man can still hit the high notes.
Beautiful choice from my day. It sounded great in stereo consoles
Your reaction was exactly my reaction , very nice
The song makes me wonder how Adam felt on his first morning knowing who made it!!
Rick Wakeman - keyboard legend.

🎼I woke up this morning singing “Father & Son” by Cat Stevens. That is a beautifully well-written song. No doubt, I’ve always loved his music.

Thank you for another video, and your smile!!
Your joy in listening to this beautiful music brings a tear to my eye 🥰

Dip back into the 70's for some good Cat Stevens. That said, this ain't bad :)
