Forget these haters. The Switch WAS first! Specifically, because the idea that you hook a mobile console to your TV isn't all that clever of an idea. The Switch is a HOME console that can go mobile. The games, in very facet, are designed for a home console. The practical difference between home and mobile all lean to home console on the switch... UI & UX, game saves, etc. What's great about the switch is once you're comfortable with your home console game well enough, now you can take it on the go. The games aren't designed to be on-the-go from the get-go. The Nomad and PSPGo just gave you a larger screen for mobile games. You might as well give credit to Android TV boxes for beating Nintendo to the punch too, cause you can play candy crush on the TV with them. Woopty fucking do!

Instead of copying From handheld to TV they went from TV to handheld same thing but switched around. Both companies put out products that consumers needed to go out & buy just so they can experience it.
I use a Yamaha receiver with upscaling capabilities and run all systems through it. Just gotta disable the upscaling when using modern devices as it's not necessary.
Fortunately, PSP Custom Firmware fixes the issue of getting your physical back catalog of PSP games on the PSP Go. Using a 1000, 2000 or 3000 model with custom firmware, you can make an ISO backup of your UMD games and then copy that ISO to the PSP Go. It also worked for a Vita running Adrenaline.
There's nothing wrong with your PSPgo dock not charging via the proprietary port, mine's the same. I got it, the component cable, and the PSPgo itself for really cheap when a Sony store was shutting down and everything was on clearance. The PSPgo was $65 brand new, and I think the other two items were less than $5 each.
To be fair, my Aunt keeps an original Gameboy in a basket of magazines on the toilet tank, been there for close to 25 years with no water damage. There's a copy of Super Mario Land in the cartridge slot.
It's kind of nuts how much the PSP go dock fetches these days on auction sites. I paid $1 for mine at a clearance sale at Harvey Norman back in 2011 or 2012.
There's actually a second model of the dock, using the same model number oddly enough, that came with the cables. And it used different cables entirely. It used a standard mini USB cable, and 2 headphone ports for AV out. 1 was the RCA/composite+audio, 1 was the 3 component video signals. I paid $6 for mine. I wish I bought multiple...
I wonder what would have happened if the Go was held back a year or so and slightly upgraded and treated as a new console, similar to the "New 3ds" line. Or at the very least if the dock was advertised more, and if multiple controllers could have been connected to allow PS1 multiplayer. Like, it might be easy to say these things in hindsight, but why is it that consoles always seem to have incomplete features?
Because they knew that they are losing against Nintendo anyway at this point, that they didn't bother to put a lot on effort on a console that they knew it will flop.
The TurboExpress is the OG switch, it predates the nomad by 5yrs or so. though a little different with the ability to play the console games on the go, but not able to connect to a tv directly
Oooh, you forgot to mention that you can also play your digital (or “otherwise acquired” 😁) PlayStation games on the PSPgo through the television using the DualShock3. The go happens to scale PlayStation games rather nicely for play on the TV. My Life in Gaming considers it a very viable option for getting the best picture to play PlayStation games.

There were a lot of PSP games that were never available digitally. That generation was weird with digital releases. There are plenty of high-profile psp/ps3 games you'd expect to be on the psn, but apparently copyright contracts hadn't caught up with technology. Why would someone buy a psp go when they couldn't play Crisis Core unless they illegally downloaded it? An all digital system could work now that every game is released digitally, but not then.
Yeah, I had considered getting the Go before I realized Crisis Core and Kingdom Hearts BBS wasn’t available digitally. So I ended getting the 3000 instead. But unless there’s physical only game you REALLY want, I think the Go is a pretty good deal! 😊
And I don’t know what the deal was with KHBBS, but there were copyright issues with Crisis Core’s music. So they couldn’t re-release it digitally or remaster/remake it for other systems. Bummer, huh? 😭

I bought my dock still in package for 10 dollars at the flea market maybe 8 years ago. I wish I never opened it. I got my PSP GO for around 20 dollars from Value Village maybe 9 years ago.
No, your dock is fine. Mine doesn't charge my PSP GO either. I'm pretty sure it needs a PSP 1000 charging cable to do so, but that way you can charge it while playing on the TV, so in a very limited scenario, it's convenient.
The charging does work with the USB on the Dock ( I bought one for $20 in a retro game shop! ) I think it might depend on the USB cable that's being used, I'm using the OEM/Original PSPgo cable and it seems to work with charging+USB transfer :P
To be honest I've found that it's much more convenient, albeit less compact, way to connect a PSP to the TV is to simply use a model 2000 or 3000 and connect it to the TV using its component cables.

PSP GO is the 4th revision of PSP, first came 1000, then 2000 then 3000 and finally GO. Also yeah I have lots of UMD but no UMD running PSP :'( gotta get one again

Psp was the original switch. It has the AV out cable, and if you connect it to your older generation TV, you'll get the full screen. In the newer gen tv (LCD, LED, AMOLED, etc) however, it looks incredibly small. Lol
You forgot about the Sega Nomad. A portable Genesis that also had full AV support (with RGB SCART support) and even most modern televisions scale it to fullscreen with varying levels of success.
I'm sure this has probably already been addressed, but I don't think your dock is broken. The two leads that power the psp go on the dock lead to the DC power input. The other leads go out to the av. So when you plug in the usb cable to the dock, the power leads aren't doing anything because it's expecting power from the DC input. That's why when you take the dock away and power it directly through the usb it works. Because now your power leads are connected to the psp directly. This is the dilemma with the proprietary connection on the psp go. People say that you don't really need the dock to play games on your tv. You just need the av cables. (And they would be right) But the catch is that with the proprietary plug, it shares both the av, usb, and power connections all in one. Well, that means you could plug in the av cable to the tv, but then you couldn't plug in the power cable. So without the dock, you would have no way to run constant power to the system while in video out mode. Now the old systems didn't have this problem. But they also didn't have BT, so no controller hook up. So in a way, the dock is kind of essential. Did anyone ever make a component hook up with power for the Go? If they did, then the dock would be pointless.

Love my psp 3000 model. Easily my best handheld for retro gaming. I already installed a 128gb sd card on to it with an adapter. Got every single gba game on that thing lol.
It's not the easiest to put together, but the CPS-1, CPS-2, & NeoGeo emulators are my favorite ones on the PSP. They all run smoothly, have movelist support, ad-hoc multiplayer, & cheats, such as those that allow Dr. DOOM & Thanos to be playable characters in Marvel Super Heroes. I still play these emulators often as these are some of my favorite games EVER.
I dare to say the first concept was the Turbografx 16 and the Turbo Express back in the 90’s, then Sega with the Genesis/Nomad, then Sony with the PsP Go and later SNK and Tomo with the Neo Geo X.
The PSP Go doesn't count cause all the games are handheld games, Turbo Express, Neo Geo X, and Nomad actually play games from their consoles library. If you count PSP Go then Super Game Boy and Game Boy Player also counts as they were basically docks for GB games.

This and android and iOS was the OG switch because android and iOS had controllers since 2013 (not talking about using ps3 and other console controllers actual controllers designed for phones and tablets). The switch is basically a copy of that because it's a tablet that has two in one controller and a hdmi to usb converter that charges it which everything except the two in 1 controller already existed.
Having trouble "switching"?? The one time the manual would have helped you 😅 it says hold the display button on the back (little square) for 5 seconds while docked to use TV... And the same for taking it off 👍
My PsPgo docked to my Playstation 3D Display (this display provides full screen and a built-in overlay for the psp), it looks really good compared to the VitaTV/ Adrenaline setup.
the power power pins are routed to the 5volt input and the data and video go the connector. thats why it charges when you plug directly into the console because no pins are being rerouted. nothing is broken

@@ILLRICARDO - Use auto h-encore on your PC to mod it. Get a Vita with v3.68 or older (for now, that may change soon) fw, then downgrade or upgrade it to v3.65. You'll need an official Sony memory card if you're doing a 1000 model; The smallest one is fine. The 2000 models have 1GB of internal memory, so no need for the card. After performing the h-encore installation, use the latest Enso to make it permanent. Install vitashell, homebrew shop, pkgj, & autoplugins to set everything up. Look up Tech James here on YT for videos detailing setting up specifics. Hit me up if you need help.

Besides for collecting purposes, for about the price of the dock, you could purchase a PSVita TV and mod it which you can use to play PSP games while opening up the awesome Vita library
I'm still trying to mod my PSTV (Vita TV). I can't get auto h-encore to find it. I have done several Vita 1000's & 2000's, but can't get past that point with the PSTV. Any advice?
I'd love to get a PSP Go dock, just because I want one. However a better, easier and even cheaper, (if look around a bit) way to play PSP games on your TV/Monitor, without using a PSP emulator, is with the Vita TV, (hacked) and Adrenaline. You can of course not take the Vita TV with you in your pocket and resume the game you just played. But it's a great way to play PSP game on your TV with native hardware and it up-scales the resolution too. I want the PSP Go dock though, so I'm jealous. Hope I get lucky and find one at a reasonable price some day too. =)
I have a psp emulator on my phone (paired with a bt gamepad) and sync my save folder on dropbox. That way I can go from playing on pc to phone and have the same saves. (works with retroarch, too, for all your other emulators)
I bought the PSP go day it was my first time owning a PSP however the reason it didn't work for me cause they didn't release the digital games in a timely manner so I was missing out I still love the design of it I'd love to see a toned down vita go but that's not likely
The Sega Nomad is more like the Switch and the PSP Go is more like the Game Boy Player. With the Nomad you can play console games on the TV and even plug in a second controllers for multiplayer. With PSP Go you can't have another player join in unless you ad-hoc link it to another PSP with same copy of the game, in a way you're still basically playing a handheld game but on the TV. Handheld game on the TV and console game on a handheld are different in that perspective cause they were design specifically for that.

This and android and iOS was the OG switch because android and iOS had controllers since 2013 (not talking about using ps3 and other console controllers actual controllers designed for phones and tablets). The switch is basically a copy of that because it's a tablet that has two in one controller and a hdmi to usb converter that charges it which everything except the two in 1 controller already existed.
Having trouble "switching"?? The one time the manual would have helped you 😅 it says hold the display button on the back (little square) for 5 seconds while docked to use TV... And the same for taking it off 👍
My PsPgo docked to my Playstation 3D Display (this display provides full screen and a built-in overlay for the psp), it looks really good compared to the VitaTV/ Adrenaline setup.
the power power pins are routed to the 5volt input and the data and video go the connector. thats why it charges when you plug directly into the console because no pins are being rerouted. nothing is broken

@@ILLRICARDO - Use auto h-encore on your PC to mod it. Get a Vita with v3.68 or older (for now, that may change soon) fw, then downgrade or upgrade it to v3.65. You'll need an official Sony memory card if you're doing a 1000 model; The smallest one is fine. The 2000 models have 1GB of internal memory, so no need for the card.
After performing the h-encore installation, use the latest Enso to make it permanent. Install vitashell, homebrew shop, pkgj, & autoplugins to set everything up. Look up Tech James here on YT for videos detailing setting up specifics. Hit me up if you need help.
Loved the video! And never heard of the pspgo stand, that's cool (but with all the proprietary changes sony made with the go model, it also kinda sucks). It's so sad that the psp didn't incorporate a scaler and... Oh.. Oh it's coming.. I can't stop AAAH It looks like I'm on the internet! OH NOOOO-you can do the same thing with a psp 2000 or 3000 and a super cheap chinese knock-off psp component cable and play with the psp as a controller.

If you really think about it, the psp as a whole was the original switch. It always had the TV feature

Besides for collecting purposes, for about the price of the dock, you could purchase a PSVita TV and mod it which you can use to play PSP games while opening up the awesome Vita library
I'm still trying to mod my PSTV (Vita TV). I can't get auto h-encore to find it. I have done several Vita 1000's & 2000's, but can't get past that point with the PSTV. Any advice?

I'd love to get a PSP Go dock, just because I want one. However a better, easier and even cheaper, (if look around a bit) way to play PSP games on your TV/Monitor, without using a PSP emulator, is with the Vita TV, (hacked) and Adrenaline.
You can of course not take the Vita TV with you in your pocket and resume the game you just played. But it's a great way to play PSP game on your TV with native hardware and it up-scales the resolution too.
I want the PSP Go dock though, so I'm jealous. Hope I get lucky and find one at a reasonable price some day too. =)
I have a psp emulator on my phone (paired with a bt gamepad) and sync my save folder on dropbox. That way I can go from playing on pc to phone and have the same saves. (works with retroarch, too, for all your other emulators)

I bought the PSP go day it was my first time owning a PSP however the reason it didn't work for me cause they didn't release the digital games in a timely manner so I was missing out I still love the design of it I'd love to see a toned down vita go but that's not likely

The Sega Nomad is more like the Switch and the PSP Go is more like the Game Boy Player. With the Nomad you can play console games on the TV and even plug in a second controllers for multiplayer. With PSP Go you can't have another player join in unless you ad-hoc link it to another PSP with same copy of the game, in a way you're still basically playing a handheld game but on the TV. Handheld game on the TV and console game on a handheld are different in that perspective cause they were design specifically for that.
