- #zuluk is a small hamlet located at a height of around 10,000 feet (3,000 m) on the rugged terrain of the lower Himalayas in East Sikkim of the Indian state Sikkim.

This place is relatively an emerging and offbeat destination in East Sikkim. Today it is fast emerging as a new tourist destination. It derives its tourism importance due to the excellent view of the eastern Himalayan mountain range including the #Kanchenjunga.
**Historical importance**
It was once a transit point to the historic #SilkRoute from Tibet to India. The silk route that connected Lhasa (Tibet) to Kalimpong was in use even a few decades ago until the Chinese invasion of Tibet. It was commonly used by traders traveling to Tibet through Jelep-la ("La" stands for mountain pass) as an overnight base. The route started from Kalimpong and passed through Pedong, Aritar, #Zuluk and Jelepla to Chumbi valley in Tibet.

We also went to Zuluk in February 2020 and stayed at the same Zuluk residency and same room 102. Really fantastic 👍 place.
Yes the room had a wonderful location and the hotel is also placed at a less congested area with stunning views in front

I have been to Zuluk in Oct 2016. This property was under construction then. I stayed in adjacent building run by Mr. Chundu Bhutia. Indeed Zuluk Snowlion and other properties run by Mr. Bhutia is the best place to stay at Zuluk.
This video on Zuluk is certainly "The Best" one available on RUclips.

Thanks sir...u can visit in January but the snowfall is not easily predicted..this year there was low snowfall but last year it snowed even in March when I went..but January middle to Feb end one can expect good snow. But it will restrict you from going to the higher altitudes as the roads will be shut in these snowy conditions.

Which month did you visit? Am planning trip from April 2nd to 6th, will I get snow?
I visited in March 1st week. You may get snow in the higher altitudes near nathang or lungthu..chances are less in zuluk. However it depends on weather.

See...if there is snowfall at that time,. The authorities do not issue permit from rongli...they will only give you permit till Zuluk and thambi...it is because of the snow on road that driving becomes impossible...only military vehicles can go...however if there is no or less snowfall, then you have a chance of reaching nathang..

Thanks..I went in March 2020 beginning...there was more than normal snowfall during that time.

roads get blocked if there is fresh snowfall. to time it so that roads are not blocked but you get snow, is very difficult. u need to be lucky

We planned to go Sikkim in end of march, 2021, will we get snow at zuluk ???
If there is snowfall in the upper altitudes then you may get snow flakes at Zuluk otherwise in proper Zuluk hamlet there is less chance of snowfall. But u never know. After about 10mins drive above Zuluk you may get snow depending on the weather conditions. There may be hard snow on the roadsides.

I visited in March first week. Snowfall starts from end dec onwards depending on the weather. But you will not be able to reach the higher altitudes if there is heavy snowfall. The road gets closed and permit is not issued.

In mid Dec, you will find snow at higher altitudes like in Nathang..but if there is snowfall during that time, u may get at Zuluk also..no one can predict exactly.

yes. depending on weather conditions. but if there is snowfall due to bad weather, roads are closed & u don't get permits.

there is very good chance of getting snowfall..if it does not snow, then also you will get it in the upper altitudes from previous snowfall in the month.
Is it possible to get snow in Zuluk in second week of March?
Yes..we got this in first week of march..it depends on weather conditions...if it has snowed heavily earlier, then hard snow will remain on the tracks...mainly above Zuluk...not in zuluk

Difficult to get at Zuluk..however if you reach Nathang then u may get some.
And we are planning to visit both North Sikkim , zuluk , and Darjeeling in 9 -10 days of our trip? Is it ok or will it become hectic?
9-10 days is good. there should not be any issue
Can we get the permit of nathula pass from rongli bajar?
As far as I remember, yes, but still need to check once. You also double check before going. People enter zuluk and cross over to gangtok via nathula pass in many case

Excellent video. Really informative and enjoyed watching this. Could you please let me know if the homestay has steep stairs to access the rooms? I mean can senior citizens easily access the room?
thanks..in zuluk residency, the stairs can be climbed by senior citizens, but when i last visited there, it had no railings & in Zuluk there can ne load sheddings every now and then. one needs to be careful during the same. also part of the staircases were not properly finished at that time. it was rough.

@@sunnymitra6372 it depends on the amount of snowfall the area gets..if there is heavy snowfall, they donot issue permits to go to thambi view point or above.

Yes you can go there. You may get good views with pre season snowfall depending on weather conditions.

If you are lucky then you may get early winter snowfall, usually in the higher altitudes at nathang area

Thanks..I did the timelapse by clicking over 300 photos in a continuous sequence and then playing all of them over few seconds only..thereby creating the fast forward effect in video

Difficult..it usually starts snowing from December..but you never know the weather..you may find some snow in the higher altitudes at Nathang

Thanks for watching...if you are planning for 4 days in silk route, then one plan can include from padamchen, Zuluk, nathang or you can do rishikhola, Zuluk, nathang. But nathang can not be done in winters as road remains blocked due to snow.

Yes why not ? The only issue is the fact that if there is snowfall, then you might not get the permit to go to the higher altitudes, as the road remains blocked and they don't issue permit from rongli....reaching nathang becomes difficult. This same incident happened with us also.

@@nikkybajaj05 see..if you rae going to gangtok first, then you will be entering tsongmo lake, babamandir, nathang, lungthu and then zuluk...this completely depends on snow conditions. you can check with your tour operator for the current conditions. in any case you can book the permits after reaching. if weather does not permit, you can cover west sikkim - peiling area
