    Like it or not, while Indonesia has developed a large fandom, its purchasing power is relatively low compared to other regions. I understand that this is why Holo ID needs to expand its market outside the country. Still, I will never forget what happened in 2020

      That's why HoloID rely so much on sponsorship. With ID gen 3 getting the fandom bigger the chance of collaboration with brands either local Indonesian brands or foreign brands. Getting big fandom is the key of getting sponsorship. Those HoloID collab with Indomie, Honda Motorcycle (the Beat Kobo one) and many brands collab is definitely the great achievement and HoloID are indeed looking into that.

    As a Chinese person who just got into vtubing this year through the Western internet, it was really a really interesting experience learning about an event that happened way before I really got into vtubing. Before I saw your video on the incident I was wondering why doesn't Hololive, being such a big cooperation, have a Chinese branch seeing the potential vtubing market in China. After I learnt about the incident it resulted in quite a conflicting feeling in me. On one hand, I wanted to see Hololive members, whether Chinese or of other ethnicities or nationalities to have a presence in China where I don't have to use a VPN to watch them and of course to have a branch of Hololive that spoke my native language. On the other hand, I knew of the potential toxicity of the Chinese internet due to a lack of moderation for anything outside of alignment with the Chinese socialist views. I learnt of the horrible toxicity that lies under the surface of the Bilibili community as I grew up and discovered that side of the internet, I don't even use some of the more toxic social media such as Weibo, and have been influenced by those as well at times, so I know of the dangers of certain content that tries to influence and persuade people into radical behaviours. Seeing Hololive return to China again is messing with my head in the same way, I am glad to see Hololive return to China but am scared for them for the potential danger to the talents based on my personal experience with the Chinese internet and from what I've seen.

      To be fair, there is no bigger threat coming from China than the sheer number of people from them, and this would apply to anything in the World that the Chinese could threat.
      Yes, while there are CN Folks sympathetic or indifferent towards Hololive but even if there is only a small percentage of people from CN harassing Hololive this whole time, that's still a lot of people and among those may have the resources and talents to constantly cause harassment and even worse.
      I really hope Cover knows how to defend their Talents (both Hololive and Holostars) beacuse with the huge number they are now, it is nearly impossible to guarantee that not a single one of them would commit a mistake similar to what Coco or Haachama did.

    so, just to add a little more information:
    Hololive isn't actually back on China, their Chinese operations are being handled by a third party company called NOA that does the rebroadcasting on the BilliBilli alongside China-exclusive brand deals. Basically the Chinese equivalent of what Mythic Talent does here in the west

      Kson didnt renew her contract cause 50% is bullshit....1/3 after google takes its cut
      She's talked about this in her streams
      Modern vTuber companies like Idol and Phase give talent 80% of IP and Merch, Mythic is 85%, vSohjo takes none of IP and gives as much as 95% of merch and Sponserships (and my oh my she is with vSohjo now,go figure)

      @@FrarmerFrank The Google cut is actually not as bad as the Twitch cut (which is 50% normally). I don’t know much about Idol’s operations, nor Phases (other then they got that Coffee money), but it’s been stated that Mythic is VERY hands off. Their service is not to be an agency like VShojo, but more that all they do is find you branding deals & sponsorship contracts and that’s it. VShojo IMO is a more unique case in the industry as they’re like a JP company but with Western values, which sometimes makes me wonder how they’re funding certain stuff without having to go to talents to eat into their cuts. I know they get that IRL backpack money, but I don’t think that’s funding concerts.

      What a bold move by Cover back then when they decided to leave China and align with the West/Taiwan during such heated times, only to cleverly find their way back for the profits, knowing Taiwan has since lost its influence. Truly a world-class business strategy.

    • @Anim3Gamer
      @Anim3Gamer 16 дней назад

      @@yura-neko-z9q I don’t think Taiwan has lost much of its influence at all. A sudden attack by China that damages or destroys Taiwan’s Microprocessor Plants would be a significant loss felt around the world (especially in the US). That alone would be enough that barring any idiotcy from Trump, would immediately begin a War between China and the US and subsequently the entire World.

    Basically from Mandarin community, apparently Bilibili begged Hololive to came back even offered some good stuff to Holo and all Holo need to do is just stream on bilibili occasionally (whoever wanted to) and give them (bilibili) the rights to sell their stuff. After that Hololive will be free to do whatever they want on bilibili. Personally I'll take this as a huge W for Hololive cause this means Bilibili is now unable to control Hololive however I still sort of hated the decision even though ik it'll definitely generates more opportunities for them

    • @ODDnanref
      @ODDnanref 14 дней назад +3

      From what I understood with other comments, Hololive is doing rebroadcasting using a third party company. So Hololive is not dealing with it personally. Any issues the third company can handle. Since they are rebroadcast you can translate, and you can avoid problematic cases by censoring or deleting them from the vid.
      I still don't like it, but since it is essentially the equivalent of seeing a season four months after it was released, Hololive is only getting money and not ceding anything in return. Yeah.

    Honestly, the situation with Coco could have been handled a lot better... I feel like the harassment and eventual graduation could have been prevented if management had decided to really, TRULY address the problem and protect Coco instead of making "corporate business" decisions. Punishing Coco was not a good move.
    Also, were the issues behind the harassment ever properly/thoroughly addressed? If not, there's a risk of Hololive ending up a similar situation.
    Cover Corp. needs to have guidelines to prevent this. They can't (and shouldn't) just try to return to the Chinese market without the protection of their talents in mind. Profits should not be their only goal...

    • @jjQlLlLq
      @jjQlLlLq 16 дней назад +15

      The perspective of the fan is to prevent Coco graduating. But if we hear what Coco wanted, Coco wanted creative freedom, and she got creative freedom by graduating. Got bigger money share too. She has shown on twitter her pride on how VShojo does things, though ppl criticize her as always. Towa has said when meeting Coco after several years, that Hololive has changed and she agreed that Hololive wouldn't have fit Coco's preference.
      In the end, Hololive is a big corporate that has to follow business rules, that results in having to go through bureaucracy and having certain restrictions. In exchange, it does give Holo huge opportunities like Suisei going to Tokyo Dome, making a huge 3D studio office, doing whatever brand/artist/etc collabs that the members want, and many more. It's a pick-your-poison situation.

      i think holo need more time to step to that market, i don't want to gloom and doom or doomposting whatnot, but after what ever happened in 2024 it's not wise to go back yet. chloe statement, regis complain, kronii story that she waited/being ignored for 20 days for game permission, and shion MV story too. rather than mistreatment (arguably), holo need to address their mismanagement, cut-off their bad apples and start properly get their proper staffs and state (cover/holo) what's their direction and main objective, so if some talents have different views they can leave and start their own new journey with their own ideas, so there's no bad blood between them and crystal clear reasoning of the talents departure in the future. but don't worry, as i said just throw the bad apples, as holo also have some good staffs too. shiori said she can do whatever she wants (to some extent) and she don't need to do stuff if she's not willing too and some members have same experience. as fubuki said, as long she's not leaving, hololive is still good and vice versa. so pay a little bit attention to the snow fox as she's the one of hololive pillars.

That is why we shouldn't put too much importance into a brand name outside of product quality. Starting with a suspension let the Chinese fans know their bullying would work
      Following up with a formal apology showed them where the weak points were
      Putting Coco back on stream with no additional moderation support was an obvious bloodbath
      And once the hate started rolling in, the company didn't just ignore it they created a fractured and internally hostile image that further attracted hatred.
      They should have made a very simple statement that the analytics were from Google, blame Google, and promise Holo livers wouldn't look at their analytics on-stream again as it wasn't particularly good content anyway (being careful to emphasise that the reason being it wasn't interesting to avoid feeding the trolls). Then arrange an event of some kind to move past the issue - preferably with multiple talents to show a united front. There would be some trolls, and the company needed to provide support to filter them instead of leaving it up to unpaid jannies (and having a troll get added to cope with overflow) because that's the companies job.
      Holo had to pull out of China anyway. That was likely always going to be true, and may have been true even if they played it all right, but they fed the hatred with a slow drip of success then wondered stupidly why it didn't fade away even after sacrificing one of their top earners to it. Without feeding the hate they might have been able to actually placate the Chinese market for a while until the next stupid little slight offended the terminally underendowed CCP stooges.
      EDIT: This is easier to say in hindsight than it would be to see at the time. The biggest problem Holo had was that they clearly did not understand the Chinese market and thus could not anticipate the scale of the storm they found themselves in. They genuinely thought every small concession was a resolution, and not just a show of weakness that would be held against them.

    Eventually Hololive will return there.
    I only need one more proof. Once Everyone can play Chinese games again. That's gonna cement it.

      @@standforrover selected members only not everyone...not yet. To be honest I never cared about it. So tell me who are the members who can play Chinese games so far. I stopped at Kobo since she's the test guinea pig of Cover. Are there anyone else?
      In BiliBili and not YT

    Being a Hololive fan myself, I'm still having a bad feeling about Hololive going back to China, since even 4 years after the incident and after Coco graduated, China still isn't being kind to Hololive (Fuck those Chinese antis frfr)
    However this isn't to say that there are no Chinese Hololive fans, As DN pointed out in a previous video that there are some Chinese fans that love Coco, hell there are even some Chinese Hololive fans (I'm not sure if I can call em that but yea they still are) that only hate Coco. Personally, if Hololive decides to promote in China again I don't mind, since I wouldn't want actual Chinese Hololive fans to feel left out
    I just hope Cover learned their lessons and knows how to protect their talents, because goddamn we don't want another incident like Coco's to happen again 💀

    From what I know, most of the Hololive *fans* on Bilibili either moved on to someone else or just stopped talking about it. But none spoke up, as that was a sure fire way of getting cancelled by the rest of the platform. Even nowadays there's no fan who would speak of the incident.
    Speaking as a Chinese viewer myself, I'm glad to know Hololive is making a return to China. Finally I can see Holomem playing Chinese games.
