The 1561WS was my very first train set given to me by my grandmother in the early 60's. That set, during a move, developed 'legs' and disappeared. I have since re-added a boxed set to my collection. Great set and restoration!
The Evaporust works great and the set looks really good! I think I would have painted the boxcar door rails and chassis and the other raw sheet metal parts with a coat of Rust-oleum 2X satin black. 🚂
Thank you for the compliment. That’s a good idea on the satin black Rust-oleum. I’ll probably do that after the holidays…I wanted to get this set running at a local train show this weekend on my postwar layout.
Marx guy here, most of what I restore are basket cases parts. I use White Vinegar at 5%, soke for 24 to 48 hrs. wish removes all rust and paint to bare metal.
What's weird Sir is I've never used a soldering iron to cut wires(household scissors work), and the old trains I've come across, the screws were prone to stripping and d the C clips always broke. Somehow, you're doing an awesome job
Thank you for your helpful video. I tried vinegar on rusted track did not help at all I then used scotch brit heavy duty pads then put my wet track in oven at 200 F . I ended up with warped track that is ruined. I think I will give Evapo-Rust a try. Otherwise wire wheel takes awhile and did not remove all the rust on one of my Marx freight cars but did remove the majority of rust but takes work. Does spraying WD 40 on rusted parts then wire wheel do you think that works better than just applying wire wheel?
Give the Evaporust a shot…I would think wire wheel with WD40 would get pretty messy. With track in the Evaporust, I would remove the ties as it will take off the paint. Also probably don’t want to soak the insulation cardboard on the center rail. Thanks for your compliment!
Never use a wire wheel on lionel engines only use a brass wheel ,,,,,the magnatraction can catch bristles that fly off and get cought in motor,,gears and every were else

Thanks for sharing that story!
Great Video, thank you
Amazing reclamation. Great video -- a balm for anyone attempting to revive classic Lionels stored in basements or other humid-rich environments!
I'm going to try that Evapo-Rust, thanks for the tip!
It's a great product! Let me know how it works out.
