  • See how I clean the wheels on my engines. I use a Dremel tool with a wire wheel to make short work of this task, just be sure to wear eye protection.

I use a polishing wheel in my Dremel and it works great without fear of little metal fragments from a wire wheel.

Hmmmm a polishing wheel. I was going to use a metal brush, but your idea seems better.

I'm 85 years old and some 60 years ago I got this box of Lionel parts including, transformers, 6 cars, a coal car that whistles, cars etc, & an Engine , "2025" and now I'm trying to build a 4 X 8 table for my great grandkids. These transformers dont work but I figure it's because of the rust etc inside. I don't have lots of money to buy new. I also need the front round part of the 2025 tank and need to see at least how the light was set up. --I was a Jet mechanic during the Korean war, so I figure I should be able to proceed with a little help from my friends: Thanks in advance J L

always always always always wear eye protection!! Make sure no one's standing next to you unprotected either. The Dremel wire brush bristles tend to fly off and they stick into you like needles!

Just had a curiosity, do you use the Dremel on the power rollers?

Great idea! I have used the alcohol and Q-tip, but using the Dremel is great. I already use it to clean the tracks. Any tips on cleaning the power shoe that you are attaching your positive pole to.

3 rail is not O scale. O scale is 2 rail DC.

Ernest Imken It refers to the scale size of a model...as in 1/48th. The number of rails is irrelevant.

Great video! Goo-Gone and Q-tips works for me. Never thought of using my rotary tool for the wheels.

    Thanks for sharing the video.
I jumped around a bit so may have missed it if you covered in this video but I wanted to know how you clean the wheels with the rubber ring on it? Or do you clean this? I would think the alchohol would dry it out but after going through all the work to clean the other wheels it seems a waste if these don't get cleaned in some way as well. Thanks

Dave Baxter I have always wiped them with a rag, sometimes an old tooth brush but I don't use chemicals on them...if they get too bad I just change them out.
