Fantastic stuff and great timing for me too! I've just redone my garage system this weekend and replaced my old Pioneer headunit with the same Aiyima amplifier running some DLS components and a JL 12W3 off a dewalt battery. So shocked at how well and loud the thing sounds! I was gifted a Yamaha HS8 bass driver ages ago (so obliged to do something with it) and not having any T/S parameters never knew what to do with it except maybe transmission line. I was always put off by most of the comments posted in forums etc about the complexity and my ability to get it right, but this has re-inspired me. I'll be playing with speakers again this weekend, thanks.

You were mentioning the clarity of "the thumb on the E string". That's what I love about T-lines, the clarity of the bass. It's usually very natural, not boomy, more realistic when listening to acoustic instruments.
I have a pair I built from a kit, but to be honest I've never built another pair because I was thinking I had to hold to all the complicated shit to get a pair that sounded decent.
Well to hell with that, I'm going to build a pair using the basics. Thanks for sharing this.
Oh also, try throwing some dampening material in there and the bass won't fall off as quickly.

Doing it yourself not only saves you money and is fun and educational but if you do it right the results can really impress you and be better than pre-made sound equipment that is much more expensive. Even if you use cheap equipment that doesn't mean it's bad at all! You'd be surprised how good cheap equipment has gotten. Definitely recommend more people try this. It's a fun & educational hobby!

I've watched a few and i like your style, no surprise your channel is growing at a faster pace now.
Had and old JVC stereo that spent to much time in a garagem with a big opening above the door and now it sounded horrible.
Brought it home, opened one of the speaker enclousures and the speaker was all dry and broken.
I don't have much money allocated to projects and what not, but I do have a "chinese store" (they are every where here in portugal), and managed to find a pair of car speakers the same size.
Box said 200w, but we all know that is full BS, but my stereo only outputs 40w, so i gave them a shot.
Now I have the stereo back to sounding decent and connected to my desktop pc instead of just headphones.
Thank you to inspiering me in doing this repair!

For anyone wanting a decent sound system good will is a great place to check. Same with some pawn shops. Alot of shops usually underprice home stereo/theater systems and overprice car subwoofers

Making your own speakers can be quite satisfying. My speakers each have one 15" woofer, two Philips AD0210 SQ4 dome Mid-Range drivers, and four Philips AD0160 /T8 dome tweeters. How long do they last you may wonder. I built the speakers back in 1976. The only eventual replacements were the outer foam rings of the woofers. The old rings had begun to turn to dust. But that only cost about $27 and an hours work per woofer.

@@PacmanBasshead I think you did well given the drivers used, and they seem (given your comments/reaction) to blend with the sub nicely. You'll push the drivers to distortion if you ask much more of them.
That said, when the sense of "what if" gets the better of you and you inevitably build new enclosures, add another woofer in the same 2.5 crossover setup I used. It's an easy upgrade, given you understand the principles, and then you'll be able to target lower frequencies efficiently.
From memory, a rear port was more in phase below 45Hz (or something like that), but I don't remember if that was due to the enclosure depth, more than frequency... They measure as well as they sound (using REW), so whatever the reason was, it's correct for my setup.
I look forward to watching that video in the near future 😁

Having the speaker 1/3 of the way down the line does not "flatten the response" necessarily. You are cancelling the harmonics that cause you to only have 3x the fB as your range, so once you place your speaker 1/3 the way you can play higher.

Technically you have made quarter-wave "tubes", a true transmission-line has specific damping materials along it's length to absorb certain frequencies and prevent reflections. I have a pair of TL speakers that someone DIYed back in the 80s using USA made Realistic full-range drivers (cheap and cheerful, but Realistic was serious about home hi-fi back then). The TL is fully damped and even the front baffle has damping material on the front under the grill material. They sound fricken amazing and the sound-stage is truly something to hear for near-field listening.

I’d love to see some controlled frequency db testing to be able to see how the calculated frequencies vs actual output of the build. Haven’t built a T-Line for around 10 years, but this is the first time hearing about placing the speaker down the line to flatten response. When I calculated mine, I was assuming beginning of the wave started at the back of the speaker, so I always located my subs right at the beginning of the line. I hope that makes sense, and I’d love to experiment with that to see if the peak frequency shifts at all, or how much db you lose (if any) by flattening the curve and getting a broader response range.
Also I never thought to put tweeters in the T-Line, do they seem unaffected by being in the enclosure? Could be a nice space saver

    • @PacmanBasshead
      @PacmanBasshead  6 месяцев назад +1

Totally unbothered! Because the tweet is sealed, all the wave sees is a very minor bump in the woods surface which makes no difference what so ever to the response.

This video was great fun, I'd love to build speakers in the future.
Also you've got overscan turned on with your TV, the edges are being cut off for stupid old TV broadcast reasons. There's probably a mode setting somewhere on there to fix it.

    Great job!
I built many speakers and it is fun. And if you do like this, you can get great results for an affordable price.
I belive that spend a few more money on the Wood, you get extra good results. Dont need to be much thicker than this, but really dont build with to thin Wood.
Then you need to put braces everywere
Also, you dont always need Wool in the speaker.
That is often used to fool the speaker that the box is bigger.
Spend an extra few hours on facts and how to, and you all Will be very surprised what you just build!

Yes, this post was more to beginners who watches this series.
      Very fun, to watch.
Its actually more science than many thinks behind a clean sound that is hz matched. But it doesnt need to be that expensive as byuing a set for 1000$
Some math, some carpenting and you soon have a nice set of sound.
Sell them and earn a few bucks, build a new pair with higher quality of speakers.
Try different setups, as tweeter, 6,5” mid base, 2x 8” base elements.
That offers for a really good stereo setup with the right volume of the box.
Think this way also, the bigger woofer you mount, the more air it might push. But it can sound crap in a small room.
Two 12” bases are like one 18” base in area, but they act quite differently.
18” can have trouble to get a snappy base. But pushes good on low hz.
If you not but really expensive bases that can handle that effect required to push hard and fast.
So, its easier and more affordable to build with 8” or 12” for bases.
Good push, that can go deep and be snappy, a great mix for normal rooms.

Hi, if you want to check ish tuning on your box. Play hz tones at good and high volume, watch the sub... When the sub is standing most still... there you have your tuning :)
Tline should be much more videos of, really fun boxes.
my self i was going to build dual chamber bass reflex box, but since seller sent me 12 insted of 10" then i need to change plans.
    thinking of tline myself.
