Wranglerstar yes finally a bit & brace set I have a bit & brace but the bit needs a little work. And I would say build the the holster across from the chisels with the connection point up
Second that ^^^. I have a brace but no bits... found a whole toolbox full for $35 at a thrift shop once but gave them to a friend... he had been looking longer and harder than me. The selfish part of me is still salty haha
Wranglerstar Thank you for another awesome and informative video in this series. The tool box is coming along nicely. Last weekend I managed to aquire the exact same set of bits along with a brace. If you come across a retired ship builder, invite him round for coffee. You never know what he might like to pass on to a keen yet beginner wood worker.
I read the discussion on your channel, and I couldn't believe the negativity with people commenting about unsubbing because they think you are selling out or have your channel as a business. Don't let those people stop you from doing what you love, keep it up.
Bryan Bentley...agreed! At first I was like a box is pretty 'basic'. It's really becoming something pretty awesome. I say a box for the bits with a dedicated spot in the corner with a way to be secured in place.
I love this series. Thank you. It's very inspiring. I live in a travel trailer and have been on disability since October of '16. The only reason I'm not on the streets still is because of a little old lady in my congregation that knew my mom when she was in her teens. She lets me park on her land for free in exchange for yardwork when my soon-to-be-replaced hip will let me - even letting me use her electricity. Since I got on disability, I've been slowly building to start an art studio, turning the front of my trailer and the in-bed camper I got for free a while back into a workshop. I have already started by making canes - starting with the one for myself - and I will also be doing a lot of various crafts out of this workshop as part of my "practical art". I will be vlogging the whole thing as a "Learn Along With Brandon" series as I learn new skills and pass it along through the RUclips channel. When I feel overwhelmed by the very idea of it, I turn to guys like you, Woodworking Master Class and his small-shop series, DF-In the Shop, Samurai, Alec Steele and quite a few others... I can do this. Again, thank you.
you should do a firehouse tool roll. You did a video sometime back that a friend of yours made them. that would look nice in the toolbox and allow them to be protected and kept together. The toolbox looks great, your additional tools make it extremely wonderful, personal and blessed.
I don't know if it is the best series, but it is a DANG GOOD one! Cody, any series you do is pretty good. But, the ones that have Jack, Ginger and Mrs W in, are better than most. steve
I really love how much time you put into your work, where one would leave the saws the way they were, you went ahead and took the time to make that block to hold them secure. God bless.
Good idea Gary. I often use dowels to strengthen end grain when it's not very wide like that. It's not a matter of if, but when it will break off when it's that narrow.
dear mr&mrs wranglerstar, first off, i love all of your vids and they have helped me a lot with loads of things the last 1.5/2 years. i have gotten more into axes, thanks to you i know how to sharpen them better and keep them good. and i started doing a lot of stuff in my own shed, like make a new wood place, restore my old shed and make it into a woodshop/allround shop all thanks to you! the only problem is i dont have much good tools, i have a couple decent saws and some basic stuff but no good chisels, planes, stuff like that. i am a 18 year old dude from the netherlands and i have learned so much from.your vids. and i would love to have such luck to win this toolbox! it would really complete my woodshop. thanks again for all the great vids and how much you have helped with not only the things i already said, but also with getting through some rough times in my life. im really greatfull for that. cheers, Wesley Krol
I've delayed on commenting on your videos in the past, don't know why, but I just want you to know wranglestar, I enjoy your videos very much. just by watching your videos, I get the impression that you would be the type of person that I would love to have as a neighbor or a friend. your approach to the projects you get into is genius, reminds me alot of myself at times, but you are further along than I am, as in, experience, and having a nice big tool shop full of goodies to work with. in part, I am writing this comment in hopes to win something from you, be it a tool box or ANYTHING, but also, it gives me a good opportunity to tell you how much I look up to you and your work, and that I hope you can keep making awesome videos for our enjoyment and education.
Organized, simple, economical, classic, and a project any of us can build. I love any project that makes our work easier, with style. This is fantastic. The clamps and your video praising them was heartwarming and an example of how we should praise each other's efforts and skills. Very well done and thank you. Chris
I think I like the idea of a separate box. Too much stuff sticking up on the sides seems like it'd just get in the way. Everything is looking great though!
As always, learn something new! Woodworking is something I never thought I had the knowledge or skills to do. Watching this channel is like having the most patient teacher/educator. Also love the idea that it can be done on a budget. Better tools don't mean anything if you don't have the skills and knowledge. Kudos for your years of passing along your experiences to us. Some of my favorite parts of your videos are the end of your video when you get to reflect on the days events. Nothing better than looking back at a productive day and to count your blessings. Energizes you for the next day to take another step forward in learning and doing something real!
Do butcher blocker, but use the bits to make the holes for a snug fit, maybe coat the inside of each hole with wax for lubrication and protection. I like the way you are doing the series as the weather dictates. It is something to look forward to, some continuity for regular viewers.
A box would be a good way to store bits, the butcher block style will get pretty filthy in the holes for the bits. Just my opinion. Coming along pretty well though.
Great channel. Finally, a channel that my son and I can watch together, as I try to improve my woodworking ability and get him started on learning these long-forgotten skills. Keep up the great work!
keyvik I agree. A canvas roll would be the way to go. Maybe Mrs. W could fashion something from son old fire hose that Cody has lying around. Much more Wranglestar and better protection for the bits. It would be nice to have Mrs. W add something to this and using the fire hose (if possible) would be a nice touch.
just an FYI for you guys. I had some 1/2" Pex (PVC)water line left over from a job and I thought it would make a cool blade guard on my hand saws. So I cut them to length and sliced a cut down it length wise with a sharp utility knife and they work perfectly. after they are cut length wise they are still spring loaded lightly so they grip the saw wonderfully. Hope this helps somebody. I've already had some people ask where I bought them. lol
Great idea Art! I was thinking more or less the same thing. A simple piece of clamping profile would do but he will need some space on the side of the box.
Any local plumber will have small pieces that I'm sure they would give you. They also come in white ,red and blue. So you could color code cross cut and rip if you desired.
WOW! Cody, your doing a great job on the tool box. I can see already how hard it's going to be for you to give this away after all the love you have showed it. On the other hand, what a great gift for one of your subscribers. The choice is more labor or less. A leather tool roll for the bits-easier, wooden case-harder. I leave the choice to the creator.
I think there own box would be the safest. Safest for the tools, the tool box and the person. With the square butts sticking up something will eventually hit them when trying to put something away or get some thing out of the tool box. Just my thoughts. Looks great!
Cody once again I truly enjoyed watching another great craftsman video. Being a single Dad I am inspired to share my love of wood working with my kids every time I watch one of your videos. As for the bit I feel stored on the opposite side of the chisels. Allows for more room for other tools.
My comment above was to build a box, but the canvas roll might even be a better idea. I just would hate to see all those "sticky uppers" in the side of the box. Don't like that idea at all. Canvas roll? Great idea!
I've really been enjoying all these "common man's toolbox" videos. Whoever wins the box will have an amazing piece of work. It's evident that you're a thorough planner, which is critical in a trade such as woodworking. It's hard to put material back once its cut out, so props to you. Keep up the great work and videos!
I haven't done woodworking in over 20 years. But because of videos like yours I have just gone out and bought me a tablesaw. I love the C clamps you made I hope to find a video on how to make those myself. Thanks for the videos, I'll keep watching.
The brace bits should be in a removable tray that stores under the saw handles. The plane's space should have the plane rest on its cheek (or toe), not sole.
this is such an amazing prize for anyone to win. I'm in awe at how you keep adding in extra items. I suggest the butcher block point down to keep them safe and sharp. thank for everything.
I am an ex shop teacher and it really bothered me to see you chiseling towards your hand. That's what they make vises for. Otherwise I really enjoy your channel.
I find this series very informative and as a guy just starting out in woodworking on a budget, all of Cody's ideas, tools and lessons he's learned from others, and bringing them here to us are very helpful. I look forward to seeing more, and of course waiting to see who takes home this awesome woodworking tool kit. Thanks alot Cody!
This is really a great series! Thanks Cody for the inspiration! I'd love to win this box and tool kit, but I win no matter what because of the knowledge gained watching you do this.
Not to understate the work you've done Cody because it's certainly top notch , but those clamps make this kit. They are some of the most beautiful pieces of art I've ever seen. The story that goes along with them only adds to the lore.
I would love a tool kit like that. I lost all my tools a few years back and it been a very slow and depressing process to try and get just the basics back but your videos do get me excited again. It sucks needing a tool knowing you use to have it but don't any more. love your vids, God bless you and the family.
I like the thought of a separate box for the bits. partially for the aesthetics, partially for the added protection, and finally just to help maintain a good organizational system. Found your channel through growing in faith farms channel. I hope your channel stays on the air as the production value is very good quality.
I just love your patience and craftsmanship. I also enjoy the simplicity of many of your designs. I hope you can keep this channel going regardless of the youtube stupidity.
Thank you for all that you do! I know times are trying with youtube but I for one and grateful for all that I've learned from you channel. lots of stuff around our small homestead has been improved by your shared wisdom. anyway keep your head up
Those Irwin bits always bring a smile to my face every time you take them out, they're so nice! A case with small wooden dividers would be nice, but the butcherblock idea isn't too bad either!
The kit is looking exceptional. The time and delicate ness you take to do your wood project make your work enjoyable to watch all the time. Keep on keeping on.
Thanks again for your videos. My family and I are on a similar journey and always look forward to seeing what you are up to. Your videos have become a how-to library for many topics. Keep it up...please. Thanks
Personally I would vote for the case for the drill bits. Just in experiencing how you react when opening your own case, I think that would be an awesome feeling to share with someone. Also (just my two cents) while it is amazing that you are wanting everyone's opinion, you are the ultimate decider in what or how this tool box takes shape. This is your gift to them! If they do not like it, then they can either give it away to someone who can use it, or re-purpose it for their own needs!
I have two very old Irwin expansion bits for a brace I treasure. One large and the other small. I have used them hundreds of times installing lock sets in slab doors. Yep, I am one of the old curmudgeons that still will hang a slab door for a customer. Love this build series. Draw again if you pick me as this really needs to go to a beginner. I would drill through a block with each bit, and mount it across from the chisels. Point down preferably, but if using two or three bits, you can reference those quickly by turning the points up when you drop them in. Also using the bit to bore gives you a gauge to check with. Bolt use the bit it slides into the hole. Screw or lag, use the bit one size smaller for hardwood, and two sizes smaller for softwood.
Love the toolbox and tools, a few years ago I made some caddies for my screws, nails and one for tools. yours are much nicer. I have a mismatch of wood tools and am working on a nice place to keep them. thanks for the videos I watch every one!Don
Hi Cody, Im a 20 year old in college. Love the videos and they've put an itch in me to start woodworking, but being in my situation, money is tight. Winning the kit would be awesome and I'd put it to use without a doubt.
Hello, I'm a recent graduate who's moved to Vancouver, Canada to look for work in the game design industry. I would absolutely love this set and have enjoyed watching the series since I found it. My plans for using the set would be to get started with woodworking. My first few projects would be for my girlfriend as I have a tonne of ideas but super limited budget. I wish you all the best and thanks for all the videos about this kit. I'll probably make my own kit over the next couple years using your series. Zach
It is shaping up nicely. I see some people like the idea of a canvas roll, but for me I think I like your idea of mounting them on the side, similar to the chisels. Pointed side down, to protect yourself and the cutting edge. Saves space inside the box for other things plus, it would act as a 'sideboard' like the chisels to help hold things in an overflowing toolbox.
Great job on the toolbox. Always look forward to the next episode to see how it progresses. My vote is for a tool roll, done easy enough and still protects them. Great channel, keep up the great work.
Hi, thanks for all your hard work in making these videos. I live in the UK nr London. I just love the fact that you said in this video "I hope you don't mind me using your saw". Having worked in the building trade for the majority of my life, I know how much you treasure your tools. Especially the ones you find do a job particularly well. I hope the changes going on with RUclips don't stop your fabulous, insightful work. My best to you and your family. Jon Edwards.
The Case for the Bits would really be the best choice imo. Love the way you explain it to every one ...makes it very enjoyable and goes well with Coffee ...hehehe God Bless from Kentucky
That is going to be a great tool box. Can't wait to see the finished product. I have been wanting to build one for my hand tools. I like to use the old hand tools as much as I can. Great job.
I just wanted to say that I appreciate the bit about setting up a shop while living in an apartment. Living in an apartment in the city, my biggest hurdle has been trying to find a place where I can store tools and work on projects. It never occurred to me to utilize a single car garage to do that. Thanks for the anecdote!
Found these videos looking at Japanese Pull saws, this is a great idea and project, someone should be very happy to get this. I myself dont quite have all of these pieces, but will be using these as a guide to setting up a kit if need be.
Cody I really appreciate your channel you have a great family. I think what is great about you is that every video is different with interesting topics! Thank you for letting me see a little of your life style. Have a Happy Easter.
It's amazing to see how dedicated you are to this project. I can't wait to see it when it's done! I like the butcher block idea so that the case isn't another thing floating around in the box.
I love your videos man. We choose not to have TV. My 10 yr old son and I spend hours in our little shop. We watch your channel for entertainment when we're not out there working. We would love to have and cherish this tool box. Thanks.
Hi Mr. Wranglerstar. I really do like the content you produce and so does my daughter (2). What I appreciate most is your attitude. Please keep up the great work. Of course your son and wife too ^^.
This is a really fascinating video series and I sure love those clamps. I've been a woodworker since the mid 80's. I'm second generation in that profession. I've seen an awful lot of things made of wood in the past 35 years...and to make those clamps...that nicely...takes INCREDIBLE SKILL and patience. I'll go so far as to say that the maker has woodworking skills at the top 3-5% of the profession. Absolutely amazing. Talk about God-gifted!

The selfish part of me is still salty haha
it is great you are including two of those clamps.
+Wranglerstar: Bit screws *_down_* AND-- a thumbs up for this vid...
It just keeps getting better with every new episode!
Thank you Bryan
The toolbox looks great, your additional tools make it extremely wonderful, personal and blessed.
oneblueeye I was thinking the same thing 😀
oneblueeye second thought probably not playable enough,it would be awesome tho
oneblueeye plyable
The best series you've done so far Cody, so much knowledge to soak up!
Thank you
I don't know if it is the best series,
but it is a DANG GOOD one!
Cody, any series you do is pretty good.
But, the ones that have Jack, Ginger and
Mrs W in, are better than most.
steve
I really love how much time you put into your work, where one would leave the saws the way they were, you went ahead and took the time to make that block to hold them secure. God bless.
I would recommend that you dowel each of the uprights on the saw handle block, so they will not break off if bumped.
Good idea Gary. I often use dowels to strengthen end grain when it's not very wide like that. It's not a matter of if, but when it will break off when it's that narrow.
Man I can't get over how beautiful those clamps are.
dear mr&mrs wranglerstar, first off, i love all of your vids and they have helped me a lot with loads of things the last 1.5/2 years. i have gotten more into axes, thanks to you i know how to sharpen them better and keep them good. and i started doing a lot of stuff in my own shed, like make a new wood place, restore my old shed and make it into a woodshop/allround shop all thanks to you! the only problem is i dont have much good tools, i have a couple decent saws and some basic stuff but no good chisels, planes, stuff like that.
i am a 18 year old dude from the netherlands and i have learned so much from.your vids. and i would love to have such luck to win this toolbox! it would really complete my woodshop.
thanks again for all the great vids and how much you have helped with not only the things i already said, but also with getting through some rough times in my life. im really greatfull for that.
cheers, Wesley Krol
Thank you so much.
when you are done, use wood shavings as a "packing material"
i think it will be nice and authentic
Organized, simple, economical, classic, and a project any of us can build. I love any project that makes our work easier, with style. This is fantastic. The clamps and your video praising them was heartwarming and an example of how we should praise each other's efforts and skills. Very well done and thank you. Chris
put the bits in a canvas/fire hose roll-up pouch.
I second this idea for the bits.
Charles Littleton I vote the canvas roll idea
I think it will add some diversity to the craftsmanship plus if they are sticking up you constantly have to maneuver around them
Great idea!
That's a cool idea. Neat and tidy with the least space
I think I like the idea of a separate box. Too much stuff sticking up on the sides seems like it'd just get in the way. Everything is looking great though!

Keep up the great work!
canvas roll offers the bits good protection and will still look good and be traditional, lot less space too.
keyvik I agree.
Hi there from Portugal,
For the bits use a leather or cloth roll :D
Obrigado(Thanks)
Blog das Madeiras - that's exactly what I was thinking as I watched it! A 'tool roll' for the bits.
I'm sure he has some fire hose scraps that would work nicely for that.
Add my vote to the tool roll crowd. I bet Cody has a nice piece of leather/brain tan laying around that would be perfect for it.
That is such a great idea
Blog das Madeiras agreed that would be cheap(ish) and will look great and special
Cody once again I truly enjoyed watching another great craftsman video. Being a single Dad I am inspired to share my love of wood working with my kids every time I watch one of your videos.
As for the bit I feel stored on the opposite side of the chisels. Allows for more room for other tools.
A canvas roll offers the bits protection and takes up the least space.
I agree,
That's not a bad thought...
My comment above was to build a box, but the canvas roll might even be a better idea. I just would hate to see all those "sticky uppers" in the side of the box. Don't like that idea at all. Canvas roll? Great idea!
Maybe firehose instead of canvas? Might not roll easily though, so maybe more envelope style?
Point down. Drill the hole with the bit. You can see the hole size to gauge against wood for sizing.
JEC III agreed
Totally the correct way to store/display them
I would drill the holes with the next biggest bit. That way they are easier to remove.
The saws are very light weight. Maybe assemble all the tools now and get the box "balanced".
canvas roll up divided for the bits.
The common man's toolkit and the common man's workbench are some of the best videos I've ever seen on RUclips. Thank you so much for sharing.
You should show how to sharpen the bits before you give away the box
I haven't done woodworking in over 20 years. But because of videos like yours I have just gone out and bought me a tablesaw. I love the C clamps you made I hope to find a video on how to make those myself. Thanks for the videos, I'll keep watching.
I vote for a case, it's safer.
Hey wranglerstar, I am trying to start up my own shop and if I were to win that amazing tool kit it would be a tremendous help.
The care and consideration being put into this project is fantastic. I hope whoever wins this kit (fingers crossed) will have a a true appreciation.
I think a canvas roll would be great for the bits. Then you can throw in a tin of wax from Filson.
Layton Patterson yeah' that bothered me too! Danger danger.
Those clamps are just beautiful. Thank you for this service that you provide on this channel!
Your level of craftsmanship is calming and inspiring. Thanks for your videos.
I find this series very informative and as a guy just starting out in woodworking on a budget, all of Cody's ideas, tools and lessons he's learned from others, and bringing them here to us are very helpful. I appreciate your helpful videos, family friendly environment, & Christian outlook on all of these projects.

Hello,
I'm a recent graduate who's moved to Vancouver, Canada to look for work in the game design industry.
The tool kit sure is coming along. Looks amazing. What a blessing.
Great job on the toolbox. Always look forward to the next episode to see how it progresses. My vote is for a tool roll, done easy enough and still protects them.
Great channel, keep up the great work.
This tool box is awesome! It's a pleasure to watch your work!
Thank you for continuing to post videos even as you travel. Enjoy Boston. Good luck Mrs. Wranglerstar!
The Case for the Bits would really be the best choice imo.
Love the way you explain it to every one ...makes it very enjoyable and goes well with Coffee ...hehehe
God Bless from Kentucky
That toolbox is absolutely beautiful. Can't get over it.
This has been one of my favorite series of Cody so far.
Hopefully, we can get more people discovering these basic concepts so they can do work for themselves. Thanks for sharing your experience!
That is going to be a great tool box. Can't wait to see the finished product. I have been wanting to build one for my hand tools. I like to use the old hand tools as much as I can. Great job.
Cody,
The tool box is coming along so beautifully. Prayers for you and your family as always from me and mine. I hope to win!
Brad
I just wanted to say that I appreciate the bit about setting up a shop while living in an apartment. Living in an apartment in the city, my biggest hurdle has been trying to find a place where I can store tools and work on projects. It never occurred to me to utilize a single car garage to do that. Thanks for the anecdote!
I'm just getting started in woodworking, so this video series has been excellent. I'm planning to make a nice and solid timber frame style bed frame.
Thank you for the video Cody, the toolbox is coming along very nicely.
Found these videos looking at Japanese Pull saws, this is a great idea and project, someone should be very happy to get this. I myself dont quite have all of these pieces, but will be using these as a guide to setting up a kit if need be.
I love how this is turning out. Well done. Thank you.
The toolbox is really coming together. Can't wait to see it finished.
The box is coming along nicely . Really enjoying this series.
Top notch series, thank you, sir. Yours is the one channel I turn to daily, watch and thumbs-up, both out of sheer interest and to support.
Love the ideas of this project. I like the idea of the onboard drill bits as well. Everything is coming together nicely.
The tool kit is coming along great. Wonderful job!
I've been putting off trying hand cut dovetails. I think this series has given me the motivation to get to it. Thanks for that Cody!
Cody I really appreciate your channel you have a great family. I think what is great about you is that every video is different with interesting topics! Thank you for letting me see a little of your life style. Have a Happy Easter.
Love the box and the mindfulness within the process, thank you
Can't wait to see the finished product. Looks awesome! Thank you for doing this.
The tool box and kit are coming along nicely. Liked the discussion of apartment / workshop challenges. Liked the modular concepts!
You really are the Bob Ross of woodworking. My dad has been a carpenter for 40+ years and he speaks to the wood the same way.
Cody, Those bits are a great find. this tool kit is becoming priceless.
Brace bits are such an unexpected and sweet addition to the kit. Keep up the great work. Can't wait to see the finished product! Happy Easter!
Such a simplistic design for the holder, love it.
Yea! Another episode for the tool box. I look forward to each video of this series.
love how you explain things, you are very patient.
I have been following this series from the beginning and I love it
This is a really fascinating video series and I sure love those clamps.
