As a 68 year old married man of 40 years. We also happen to be happier than ever! Wow, what a concept! We have 7 adult children, all born in the first 11 years. Presently, we have 6 grandchildren. I never watched this show when during its 9 seasons. Somehow, my wife purchased all 9 seasons on Prime. I started watching it and got hooked immediately. I can so related in many ways. My wife had parents very similar to Frank and Marie except bordered over with an evil flair. The difference is that my wife was no Raymond. She was no pushover!!!!!!! My parents were never in the picture and divorced. So, my favorites are in order Robert, Deborah, Frank, then Marie. Raymond, all though, played well was a idiot and a liar. Yes, Marie was a real piece of work. It's my favorite rerun show! I have watched every season several times over! I'm really glad my wife and I turned out the opposite of our parents. We are living the American Dream and want for nothing at all! 😊

I'm glad this show exists. I was much younger when it aired, but now as a grown woman, I can see just how toxic this entire family was. And many people in the comments are like "Oh lighten up, it's just a show!", but these dynamics exist in real life. There's millions of just-no MILs, women being miserable married to mommy's boys, men who believe that expressing their emotions or what's wrong is weakness, and many more who shun therapy. There's always some truth in comedy. Some people may feel comfortable watching this show because it's behind the guise of being "fantasy" and played for laughs, but don't want to admit that these things are happening - maybe even to them.

Ray is a lazy, selfish narcissistic husband who is also a massive Mommy's boy. In this episode Robert was displaying that he's a kind, good natured Uncle and was unselfishly apologising to Debra as the big brother (Marie having stifled Ray and ignoring Robert which meant Robert was actually happy to spend time with kids, give Debra a break). Marie was a narcissistic, obsessive Mother who controlled her kids because she couldn't control her marriage to a cold hearted, simpleton like Frank. Frank was a spiteful, cold, abusive husband who had endured childhood abuse and the Korean War. In the real world Ray would cheat, Debra would drink because she is a wholesome Catholic girl who would never divorce her moronic husband, it's sin apparently!;, Robert would be a massive substance abuser and Marie & Frank would be 'we were good parents!" That aside, this was a tremendous sitcom and I love it! :)
I know people say Debra is the most unlikeable character, but it's always been Ray. His character is an absentee father and the biggest idiot. Seems like Debra is way too good for him.
If anything, I think the show illustrates many of the communication problems a lot (if not most) relationships have. It may seem like one party is doing more than the other, but isn't love supposed to be selfless? Aren't we supposed to care for our partners well being? It's not easy. It's not supposed to be easy. If it was easy, everyone would be doing it & it wouldn't have any value. There are times when I can just kill my Wife & I'm sure she feels the same way about me (at times). But we don't do it. We just make a few snide comments & then I'll crack a joke, and we'll both laugh about it. Then she'll usually say something along the lines of : 29 years with you Mr. [My last name]. 2 years of my life dating your sorry ass & 27 years of faithful marriage. You're no walk in the park, I'll tell you that! And I'll just smile in an eerily manner & say : "'till death do us part". Then we smile at one another & we're good to go. Crisis averted.

My husband & I were married for close to 36 years. We Loved talking & being with eachother. Unfortunately, on March 19th, 2024, he suddenly had a stroke, dangerously high blood pressure, seizures & brain bleed all in 1 afternoon. He never came home to me. Unfortunately, afterall what he went through, he passed away on April 22nd, 2024 in the hospital. I was right by his side when he left me & went to Heaven. I miss him so much 😢❤.

Characters and script so good at acting it gets some people emotional because i think alot of people can relate to certain situations with their family too . They can relate to the scenes. 😂

They’ve also said that most of the situations that occurred on the show actually happened in real life and they wrote storylines around them. The part about Ray waiting in the car while his loser wife is making him late as always, my problem. I would be on time early, and my husband would make me late. It's very annoying and I should've driven off without him many times
