Must-Have DEWALT Inflator - We list very few tools as "Must-Have" tools, but the new DEWALT 20-Volt Air Inflator is one that we feel everyone should have. There are very few limits to this tool with power as it can run off the standard 20-volt platform, the FlexVolt platform, 12-volts DC and you can purchase an AC adaptor to plug the inflator into the wall. While there are few power limitations, it is important that one reads the instructions because there is a 10-minute runtime limitation due to heat buildup inside the compressor. After 10 minutes of running, the inflator must rest for 20-minutes before being able to be used again. This is important for tool longevity.
The DEWALT inflator will work in a high volume setting good for filling up inflatable pool toys and rafts and also in a high-pressure mode for tires and sports equipment. The high volume setting pumps air at 15.2 SCFM and works very well. The hose can be used to inflate or deflate items. The high-pressure side allows the user to set a target PSI and the tool will inflate to that PSI and automatically turn off. The adjustments in PSI range from 3.0 to 160 PSI and one can adjust the target in 0.5 PSI increments. There is a digital readout on the inflator that tells you the current PSI in whatever it is attached to, so one could also use this as a gauge if the user did not have one.
DCC020IB Features
High-pressure inflation mode with automatic shutoff
High-volume inflation and deflation modes
LED light
Three power sources for inflation on a jobsite and on the go (**20V MAX* battery, 12V DC, or 110V AC) (AC power adapter sold separately )
Convenient onboard accessory storage
Heavy-duty rubber feet help reduce walking when in use
Threaded chuck for secure connection to inflation valve
Performance
First, battery life is not something one should worry about with this inflator. A compact battery is sufficient as the reality is the user has a 10-minute runtime before a 20-minute break. Using a FlexVolt battery is great, but set a timer so you do not over-heat the inflator. In our testing, we were able to pump up a spare tire from our 1971 Corvette from 0 to 35 PSI in 6 minutes and with no battery drain showing on the 5.0Ah 20-volt battery. We were able to pump our Ford F350 tire from 75 to 80 PSI in one minute and forty-five seconds. Each time we checked the tire pressure with our Blue Point digital tire gauge and it was spot on.
Visually, the DEWALT Inflators tells us everything that is happening. The current PSI, the target PSI and a small digital meter to tell you how far it is in the process. This tool makes filling the tires on your car simple and quick. Once you have a unit like this, you will not know how you lived without one!

How does it compare to the m12 inflator in terms of speed? Maybe you can do a comparison test between the M12 ,the DeWalt and the ryobi.
+1 for an m12 direct comparison
Workshop Addict +1 more for this comparison
Can do guys, but if you compare the times between our M12 video and this one you will see the Dewalt is faster. BUTm the DEWALT has to rest for 20 minutes after 10 minutes of use where the Milwaukee has to rest 10 minutes after 10 minute of use.
Milwaukee m12 inflation pump but too hot temperature
I was literally about to ask the same question. Should I get this or the m12. My gut is telling me this but then the m12 is nice and compact. Help!!
Excellent review. Just a note that the manual states that the 10 minute max runtime followed by a 20 minute rest period applies only when the PSI of the item being inflated is greater than 100.
Great point!
I interpreted this the same way
Great! Thanks for the correction. This makes a huge difference and helped me make the purchase.
@@lew708 Great point. Was going to probably return this until I read Sonicendeavor's comment
Either way... These little compressors build heat very quick and don't have a good way to dissipate that heat due to the compact size. Heat kills. It's always best to give it a break to cool as much as possible.
Just the review I was looking for! Appreciate it brother!
Have been watching your tool reviews for a little while and I really enjoy your reviews. Keep up the good work!
thanks Garret
First of your videos I've watched. Very thorough. Thanks. Exactly what I was looking for.
I use this thing and it is AWSOME. I take care of some X-Ray vans that are on Ram ProMaster chassis. I pack it in a suitcase without the lithium batteries. I carry those in my carry on luggage. The tires need 65 on front and 80 psi on the rear. This is better than some plug in small volume compressors. It is essential for my work. A++
Just got one for my truck’s flat. Thx for the quick tip. Really helped.
Found one at goodwill for $12 with all the attachments and just ordered a battery and charger for it. Really excited to have it.
Nice features ! Keep those great tool reviews coming !
Thank Danny
Great review as usual. Headed to store now. Your reviews have proven their worthiness based upon my last couple of purchases. Keep up the good work. And I already have Dewalt batteries so this is a no brainer.
I still use this thing weekly it's been a lifesaver.
@@WorkshopAddict that's good to hear, think I will have to purchase one
Thanks for the review. Was extremely helpful in making my decision to purchase this unit.
6:22 This is the best point to be made. I think my original tires wore down faster since the PSI's weren't more closely maintained the first 2 years. My next set of tires will have the correct PSI year-round with this convenient tool.
*Great air pump **MyBest.Tools** Faster than my old plug in pump and twice as handy without having to drag the cord around. And it works with my existing Ryobi drills battery.*
Just picked one up! Can’t believe they did not include the ac adaptor but mine from Home Depot came with a 1.5 amp battery for $79!
Prefer this to constantly rechecking tire pressure and have to let air out from over inflation, thanks for the review!
You will like it Marc. I use it over my air compressor all the time.
Thank you for the detailed review. Pleas help. My question: does an attachment need to be fitted on the high pressure hose (# 10 tire hose) to inflate car tires? I have a Volvo V70 2001, the 12V DC Vehicle connector won't fit (too large) and the DeWalt (no air) to inflate the tire, however, I get air when the the High Volume Hose (mattress etc., don't need) is selected with a 20-Volt MAX Lithium- Ion Battery 3.0ah attached. The light works and the start button is very flimsy. Thank you.
My current 2020 version has a clip for the plastic piece of the right side for high volume pumping that was dangling in the review video. Bought the inflator at Home Depot for $99 tool only without battery. So far very happy with the quality. I love the auto shutoff. As a dewalt 20v tool owner I have spare batteries to use for this tool. It does have DC cord. They do offer an ac adapter as a separate option but I don’t see the need.
Mine too. I bet @WorkshopAddict's does too, but I'm glad I saw this review, as I might have taken it off and not realized the clip was there to put it back. It's on the bottom of the right side, if anyone is looking for it.
@@rynovoski I watched that part again and could not see a clip at the bottom of the one he was showing.
Great review, thanks for important little (hidden in the directions) info, most wont read. Best reviews....👍🏼
Joe Framer Thanks Joe
It's awesome, love it ! 👍🏻
As always; great review!!!
Bernie Anzaldua Thanks Bernie
Great video. I just bought this in 24 and they fixed all the little things you knocked them on. they must have watched your video : )
HELP NEEDED PLEASE!!
I purchased this unit a few days ago to inflate my flat tire and it works great! I understand that it has three different ways to power the unit.
1.) with the included 12v DC cord
2.) with flexvolt battery sold separately.
3.) with 120v AC cord sold separately.
I am having trouble with number 3 I can't seem to find the correct cord/part I need to power it using the 120v AC cord.
any help would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
I bought this unit because I like the auto-shutoff when tire pressure has been achieved; I've been using Slime infiltrators to fill our cars tires, if necessary on a monthly basis. But the Slime pressure gauge is off and I have to make a guesstimate. It is frustrating when I over inflate when checking with a tire pressure gauge and have to deflate and then go under the recommended pressure and have to re-inflate. I don't think the 10 minute run/20 minute rest will be a limitation. But, is the DeWalt Flexvolt 60V air compressor suitable for tire inflation and does it have auto shutoff? Or is the 60V overkill?
Nice . TY for the info .
Great job
great vid keep up the great content
There is a place on the bottom where you can snap lock the loose accessory on the high volume hose.
Thank you that was very informative
Picked up mine 2 days ago and I’m very happy with it and it’s a darn pretty accurate according to my jaco digital tire pressure gauge, I’m looking to get some battery but looking for the one who are made in Korean, I heard the one made in china and Malaysia are not doing quality ! Any recommendations where can I find them ? Thanks again for your beautiful review
Returning mine.Runs for less than 10 seconds and shuts off, brand new.Read the instructions twice, plus watched videos like this.
just buy one tonight never turn on ! i try 5 batteries hahaha
@@alexpothier4387 😆😅
I have this inflator as well. With the AC corded adapter DeWalt N557514 power supply. Works amazing. However with any computer pressure regulated system. My concern is if the module ever fails there are no replacement parts listings for these units. This system should have some kind heat protection setup. Or they should have built it like a regular compressor but compact and same size. I also agree that they should have made the dial a bit more robust rather than all the sloppy play in it. Other than that it works amazing. Only time will tell how long these units will last through constant use.
What’s the difference in the 2 batteries you’re running? And which one does it come with?
There is a spot under unit for the nozzle for the high pressure hose to fit in so it does not hang
Good video bro 👌🏾
Can you add other attachments like a blow gun?
I was surprised it didn't come with a ac wall adapter. Do most Dewalt tools come with one?
Hey Brian there is a clip on the bottom of the unit for the hose you used to Inflate the basketball, so you don't need to remove it. Just wanted to let you know.
Great review! Straight to the point and tells me everything I need to know.
could you inflate balloons with the tools that are included, or does an attachment need to be purchased?
I have one. Worked great for 9 months then just got week and won't go over 40psi now. Works good for kids bicycles still.
That sucks, it has a 3 year warranty. Get it replaced.
Well done video, without all the b.s. Thanks!
If you are in a pinch, you CAN run this nonstop for longer at your own risk. I ran this for 2 hours and 9 minutes nonstop in my torture test video on my channel. Still works, just ran out of battery (15 AH)
Thanks for the video. Good job! I wanted to point out on the high volume hose with the piece that is in the way, if you turn it upside down you will see it has a place to click it in. I thought why is that in the way. After looking and trying to figure it out, I found the area it clicks in. Too funny. Check it out. You don't have to take the hose off. Thanks
On the newer units (mine is a 2023 model) there is a clip style holder for the adaptor on the high volume hose on the underside of the unit, so it no longer sticks out!
Just purchased mine today. Good knowing about the ten minute run time,as I hate manuals 😊
My tire started going flat during lunch at BP, and across the parking lot is a Canadian Tire . I bought there Motomaster brand that fits In your hand like a drill, but returned it this morning when I got home and found out Dewalt made this unit your reviewing . I have a plethora of Dewalt tools , so this just made sense .
I’m wondering if leaving the battery connected to the compressor will drain it over time, and should I leave the battery detached ?
I’m basically going to leave this unit in my 2016 F150 , and keep it stored under the rear seat just incase I have another incident.
Liked and subscribed 😊
Is there a good small model that will run by plugging into a garage outlet (as opposed to running on a little battery)?
Thank you!
Thank You, I have one more question, if you don't mind. What charger model would you recommend for the 5Ah battery?
Check out this deal first: amzn.to/2Q7hjlK But the DCB107 is what I use.
is it mandatory to thread this onto the tire's valve stem? Is there another option for stems with damaged threads?
I’m heading out to buy one right now
How many CFM does it put out ??? I'm comparing it to the Smittybilt 2781, which can run continually at almost 6 cfm
Can you or how do you deflate a ball with the smaller hose on the left?
Nice! Need one
if i want to raise inflate all 4 tires 5 psi ish... do i still need to let rest between tires?
It displays lo P and then automatically shuts off when I plug it into 12V and try to pump my bicycle wheel. Any ideas on how to use 12V to pump my wheels?
Great review
Loved this but it’s reading pressure all wrong now. My wife used it and now the PSI readings are way wrong (flat tire reading 50 PSI now, when max is 10 PSI).
Newer models have a holder on the bottom right for that high pressure funnel nozzel that's attached.
Great video
That adapter for a raft or pool fits snug into that long screw hole next to it above the battery.
Why do you have two different kinds of batteries in this video? Does the unit accept different sizes?
i am ordering one now.✌👍
Does the battery need to be attached when you plug it into cigarette lighter?
Loved your video but mine has a clip for the high pressure hose little cap
Will it not blow my fuse in 2017 Toyota Sienna..I learn a lesson from other inflator I bought..
thank you my brother
Gracias a ti muestras muy bien las funciones de las herramientas 👍🏽
Watch out for the high volume tube,. It says on the box 11 psi max. But I wouldn't go that high. I broke my Black and decker inflator 20V by going 0.5 psi on my paddle board . They gave me this DeWalt which is much better quality . Kudos for the warranty
That high volume inflator is a perfect addition to switch from m12
Some Safety Tips Ensure your air compressor is only used with outlets that have the proper grounding. If you plug an air compressor into an incorrectly grounded outlet, it could damage the machine’s electrical circuitry and even cause a fire.
When using either type of portable compressor it is a good idea to keep the vehicle running. This will keep the battery from discharging and provide a more consistent 13.5 volts DC to the compressor’s motor. 10A current draw for 10minutes - what does that do to your cars wiring?
If I plug it into my vehicle without the 20v battery would it still run?
Try it in the cold weather, my porter cable would not work outside in the cold LED problems
Kinda hoping to know how to use the 110V...
Can you unscrew the hose without losing much air. I want to use it to inflate the airbags on my truck, a little bit of volume is a if difference in pressure
I added on a 7" extension with a quick clip so no screwing on and off. About $7 on Amazon. Works great.
Disappointing that the AC ability is optional. l have to buy more stuff in order for it to be a true three-way inflation tool. Also, how do you charge the battery?
When standing upright with a 5.0 how much clearance is there b/w the bottom of the battery and the workbench? Im asking because i want to use this with the 6.0 20v xr battery but want to make sure ill have clearance to still stand the unit up.
You can use the 6.0 without an issue.
Follow-up question. Yes the larger battery will fit the battery slot. But does it's height result in the charger just sitting on the battery? Does it with the 5.0 Battery stand on it built in pads?
Mine is not working with in a month of having it.
It runs for about 20 seconds then shuts off.
Not sure what the problem is??????
I just bought this unit. The is a clip for the nozzle at the very bottom
The air mattress nozzle connects underneath. It does not need to dangle
I a dewalt fan 4 years I love it I get a lot dewalt tool but I think this inflator is little bigger to carry the Milwaukee m12 has same power and less small size
Thanks to your observation & comment, DeWalt did some changes to the new models 👍
DeWalt has added a clip to the bottom of the large hose to hold the additional adapter attached to the end of the large hose that wraps around the end.
Thank you for that.
I took a picture of the new model & where that clip is, but I can't find a way to upload and show that phot here. If someone knows how I can add a photo to a comment, it would be much appreciated.
I didn’t read through every comment so this may have been pointed out but the end cap for the raft/pool inflation hose has a clip it fits into on the bottom of the unit under where the hose stows onto the unit.
I was just about to mention the same thing. Glad you beat me to it.
Would you say this is good for dusting off your clothing? Want something powerful enough to eliminate all the dust buildup from the day on the job site.
Right - and blowing off tools?
Are you able to attach an air blow gun?
Still can't decide between one of these guys or the flexvolt compressor. Main application would be filling up AG tires that go flat in the lot over the winter nowhere near electricity. What would be your recommendation?
Justin D I think the DeWalt flexvolt compressor probably has a little bit more durability and if you're airing up something from completely flat it might last longer because large egg tires with this unit will take longer than 10 minutes to fill
Does it come with 2 batterys or a case?
Great and informative video once again thank you! Just picked this up at HD today. $99 w/ a 1.5AH free battery! I was wondering why they included such a small battery. Now I know why! No biggie. This, along with my Milwaukee inflator takes care of all of my maintenance needs!
My life has changed with inflators!
Is a 20V 1.5 Ah small battery enough to run this unit?
@@stellan2240 Yes
Just picked one of these up. In the latest model, the accessory piece you talk about clips underneath. There's a little yellow connector it fits right into and stays out of the way.
We still use and love this inflator!
What model number is the latest?
On mine too..
Hey bud my I want put aire to my tire but I can’t on tire side said op I don’t what that minh?
Dewalt should incorporate this into their 1800 watt power station/charger system best of both worlds, you have portable power and a compressor at hand.
Well nevermind I guess they sort of do that already on a different unit the DXAEPS2
Does it have battery clamps?
Does the intake vent (Same size as hose exhaust vent) allow use as a vacuum? Or just a deflator?
just a deflator
Do you have to screw this on for tires, or is it like the Ryobi, where you can quick connect?
Screw on.
In the manual for my unit it mentions that the 10 minute time limit of use applies only when you are working with pressures above 100 PSI. Am I missing something?
They might have changed the manual. Mine states 10 minute use rest for 20 mins with no exceptions.
@@WorkshopAddict I just bought one and the manual does say "if the pressure rating for the item being inflated exceeds 100 psi, note that run time is 10 minutes". I inflated my truck tire from 15 psi to 65 psi in 17 minutes nonstop and did not note and excessive heating.
@@n4qwf This is a change from when they first came out.
@@WorkshopAddict Could this be the difference between the DCC020I and the IB models?
Does this deflate car tires as well? I need one for off roading when deflating is needed. I read some reviews and I see some people mentioned that it only deflates balls and mattress, but not car tires, is that true?
It will not deflate car tires. Sadly.
There is a place to store the that small piece under the front near where the hose is.
The Dewalt DCC020I has a small connector for the air hose....it does not dangle as the Model here.
can this seat the bead of a tire?
I turned mine on and I ger Er 5 code. I connected it to my tire and I still get the same code.
That's good because I already purchased it
Did you get the $99 deal with a compact battery?
@@WorkshopAddict no I didn't see that. Thats how they getcha. I bought the bare tool. Still a good price but I see the difference now. I have enough batteries so its perfect for me
I bought one for 79
Will it automatically shut off after the targeted PSI has been hit?
Yes
Was that your phone on the side keeping you aware of the run time?
where is the ac connection or do you need to purchase a separate ac to dc adaptor so when you are in the house the dc car plug can go into the adaptor and the adaptor plug into the home 120 v? It advertises THREE power sources but I only see the battery and the DC cigarette lighter adaptor
AC cord is sold separately.
