Definitely the most surreal enemy in the game, out of all the entities he confuses me the most like others you can explain with headcanon backstories or theories that you can make with limited info but the Barber is unlike anything else. Is he a human disguised and going on a rampage? is he a strange protector? maybe a worker for the Mansions like Butlers? Is he just sentient clay? Maybe a bio weapon designed with camoflage abilities? I honestly have no idea! And the description says basically nothing he doesn't even get "The guardians of the house" like Nutcrackers he just gets "I had a dream about the Barber One day he made me a wig Because his scissors were too big" This creature feels like something that doesn't belong yet also fits with the humour and style of this game, a very perplexing fellow that confuses as much as it scares me. Also people are WAY too harsh on the goobers design I think
@@godofportal5905imo their current model gives off just the right amount of surrealism as they visually do not belong among the other enemies, which helps them stand out more along with their other unique features. Not to mention the main focus of this enemy is supposed to be on the giant pair of scissors, so over-designing the torso should cause it to overshadow the important part anyways.
@@aaaa-h3u I feel like it is easily forgotten by people that this guy is invisible like when this strange blue thing with GIGANTIC RED SCISSORS pops up you aren't gonna really focus on the blue man your mind will think about the scissors which stand out in the design adding more to this imo simple yet effective design might remove some of the strange " goofy cartoon character from your deep nightmares" charm that I love about em Also the sounds it makes are terrifying enough to randomly hear in the distance while completely alone and I can confirm this with...unfortunate experience

i like how people argue over barber's design but at same time barber was made only because zeekers didn't wanted to scrap unused kidnapper fox kill animation (in unused animation kidnapper fox cutted player's body in half).
I absolutely love the barber in terms of visual and gameplay design. The basic gameplay loop is simple enough, just an enemy that gets closer and closer but the fact that it's only visible when near you makes the encounters with him have so much more depth. And the drum snare used as a warning followed by a metallic sting is so cool. Also the fact that its void of any features and is just a faceless humanoid with ragtime cartoon gloves and an oversized pair of scissors just adds to the unsettling factor. tl:dr I like him :)))

fun fact: barbers way back then also did minor surgeries such as dentistry and blood letting since sharp tools werent fully readily available yet so maybe that's why their called "clay surgeons" in the game files?
I really like how these guys get faster and faster over time; it's like they somehow know the players are gonna leave before midnight, and that they'll have to try harder to hunt the players down before they can make their escape. Its interesting. (Also they remind me of Klay men)
@@joegaddy2030 Well if I had to guess it has to do with how there is no sound indicator for the others and since they can spawn in different spots it can cause issues where someone gets snipped when they are focused on something else or accidently run into one around a corner which will feel a bit like an unfair death. Though this is a rare thing to encounter because it only has over a 10% chance to spawn on two moons, dine being the highest, and the next highest (3rd) is between 4%~5%. But still, I think it is something that should be changed for those instances, even more so given they become faster as the day go on increasing your chances of getting that problem.

The simple fact that it is mostly invisible, but when it is visible is when you're in killing distance. It constantly puts you on edge that the next drum roll will be your last. Even with the sound effect being a goofy clown noise it is really freaky
Barber is hands down my favorite. Like they’re just so interesting and I wonder what was goin through the developers mind(s) when creating this guy. Purple man, COMICALLY large pair of scissors, hops at you and is frozen, can’t see them unless he is dangerously close to you, the distorted and eerie feeling after every drum, etc. I am just intrigued as to went into their minds when adding all these simple complexities to the character
I genuinely think this thing will terrify me, the constant weird jump sound, the invisibility until theyre near, and lack of face, the huge deadly sharp scissors, maybe my friend will finally consider that lethal company does scare me sometimes (He said i was "stoic" while playing once and that has never left my head, its pretty funny he thinks that cuz i do get scared sometimes)
I've only encountered this guy once, me and my friend were just walking around a mansion and we could hear the sound through the walls. we never got up close to him nor did we ever see him, we were just confused and concerned the whole time
Something else i noticed while i was testing with barbers is that they cannot open doors, however because of the way they lunge they can sometimes teleport through them if they are targeting a player. If they are simply roaming they will not be able to go through closed doors.
Got one of these today. There were 3 swarming me, I got to my friends and said “Go look at the barbers” then a thumper came out of nowhere and we got wiped. Good times.
Fr, even in the latest patch’s with a reworked fire/main and reduced outdoor power it’s still horrible. Other day my friend and I went to dine, we had to deal with a barber, 2 nutcrackers, a Bracken and more. We only found lollipops, hair brushes, and like 1 other thing. When we got outside there were 2 giants camping everything. When we finally left and saw how much we collected the max scrap on the moon that day was a measly 985. Never going back there it’s not worth it.
Hopefully it is, silent Barbers sound really unfair. Although, I've heard that Barbers currently break if there are multiple. Not sure if it's true, but it's something I heard.

Spray paint is already useful cause you can mark what you have explored and what routes take you back to the entrance.

I think it's supposed to be clay (their internal name is Clay Surgeon), and is supposed to fit with the other toy enemies in how unexplained it is.
