My mate brought this round back in the day and I found it fascinating. The opening is so strong and intriguing. Sadly it's downhill from there LOL. Another great video mate!
I actually worked on this game back when I was employed by Atari and thought it was one of the more interesting games the company published. It was just so different and wacky!
@@ScottsGameAsylum haha No I didn't even know who he was to he honest, I worked in the California office doing mostly quality testing. I also compiled the english subtitles for the game. That video of Cage cracked me up!
That's bad ass. I have beaten this game on every console its been on. I think this game was way ahead of its time, and doesn't get the love it deserves.
Well fucking said man. This game has always stuck with me throughout the years -- it is legitimately entertaining. I don't think I've ever laughed so hard playing a video game before. I think it's my favorite David Cage game because of how unhinged it is even for his standards.
Omg that ending speech sounds like it was written by a 7 year old.. "The oracle and the orange clan went back to their places of power as the secret governments of the world, and the purple clan went back to haunting us on the net" And also .. "Carla is pregnant and our child has the same power as I do. I'm the keeper of the greatest secret in the universe, what should I do with all that power"
For what it's worth, this game always interests me as an early example of it's style. Heavy Rain would only come out 5 years later and The Walking Dead a whole 7 years after Fahrenheit, sure it's surpassed by both of them, but it's still always interesting. Besides, this is to David Cage what Death Stranding is to Kojima.
Not too sure about the Death Stranding comparison. But I do agree that this was a stepping stone from traditional adventure games to the big budget cinematic games.
I loved this game because of the concept that you play someone who commit a crime and then someone who is inspecting that crime. Also, the atmosphere was spot on, in the begin it was really heavy stuff, how Lucas was mentally suffering from something he didnt even commit himself. The game was wacky, sure but at the same time it delivered some feelings, an interesting concept and i liked the variety of the gameplay too.
Aw I loved this game, and it led me to a bunch of interesting studying. Esotericism/occultism, ancient cultures and their religions, conspiracies involving the government, aliens, and the paranormal.
I "have this" but never got around to playing it. I played Heavy Rain when it came out, even though it had multiple endings I only played through it once as that was my story. Random game is random. Good review.
Just picked up & rapidly played through this game recently-- what a trip. I first heard of this game in Computer Gaming World magazine where it received great reviews. I had such a crystal clear recollection of playing through the opening diner sequence from the magazine's demo disc that when I replayed it, 16 years later, I was able to glide through the crime scene cleanup without missing an interactable. Whether I'm clouded by nostalgia or not, the rest of the game failed to hold up to that opening sequence (except for when I saw Angelo Badalamenti's name in the opening credits), but was still interesting and enjoyable enough to warrant a playthrough. This game has always held a unique place in my head; I had such vivid memories of the game even though my experience was limited to a review and a demo. No one I know had heard of this game either, it has been an exclusive memory dwelling in my mind for over half my life at this point. It was definitely an interesting experience to finally jump into the game. Thanks for the video, cheers!
Just got hold of the remastered version having played the original 10 years ago.I really liked this game with all its stupid moments. One could say it,s a guilty pleasure. Then came across your video.Really entertaining review and definitely spot on.
Furthest I ever got in this game was waking up in the apartment after the opening diner murder scene, where I wandered around in my underwear and proceeded to interact with literally everything- as you do in an adventure game- until I took the antidepressants and then drank wine and died fucking immediately, at which point I was so bored that I accepted that as my canon ending and haven't played or thought about the game once since then.

I have a friend who loves this game. He described it as feeling like having a stroke once the plot twist happens. And that was him trying to sell me on it.
Indigo Prophecy is legit amazing... in the same way that Mystery Science Theater 3000's Manos and The Hands of Fate, Brute Man, or Gamora vs Guiron is amazing. It is a timeless classic of terrible cinema in game form, best enjoyed by watching others mock it mercilessly. It's the closest thing to "The Room" of the video game world. Omikron The Nomad Soul is the closest David Cage ever got to Indigo stupid in any of his other work, but Indigo Prophecy was definitely his magnum opus.
Oh boy, I thought you were kidding when you compared it to Simon says, and then I saw the QTE's. This definitely looks like an...inspired game, maybe I'll have to go back and play it
"Who likes this shit?" - I liked it when it came out. Genuinely. I had never seen QTEs before. They made me think that you could start putting much more complex stuff into games than conventional control allowed. I loved the mystery at the start, the cleaning up of the crime scene just to then play as the investigators and analyse the same crime scene. I liked the Matrix parts too because I was a huge fan of the Matrix. I was a young teenager. Looking back today, I agree with everything people say about it. It did not age well. But I appreciate they were trying something new, even if it fell short. Plus, it's so insane, it's fun.
You never forget the first time you take pills and accidentally drinks whisky and you'll get the dumbest game over which makes you hate yourself for not making basic racional thinking. But in all seriousness, i love this game, and i knew when i was a kid, and i know now how bad it is. Me and my friend like to say there's the Fahrenheit part, with the supernatural murder investigation, and the Indigo Prophecy, that's the second half when the game and story goes absolutely fucking insane. But the first thing that comes in mind when i remember this game, it's gotta be the soundtrack. Both the OST with Angelo fucking Badalamenti (Composer of Twin Peaks and most of Lynch's films, also R.I.P), but the licensed songs are so great. The mix of soul music with mid-2000s hard rock is something that only David Cage(and a lot of drugs) could come out. Also, thanks for this game introducing me to Theory of a Deadman, a great band to listen while studying or working.
It's dumb, but I enjoyed Heavy rain and Fahrenheit at release. You are 100% right on both of your videos tho but, at launch, without thinking too much about it and going blind, it was a wild experience. I was also way younger and Cage was doing something few games did before.
The first third of this game is unironically great, and then the story takes a nosedive into being a rushed mess that plays out like a bad LSD trip. I still love the game, despite its many flaws, but I can't help and imagine an alternate reality where the story was consistently great from start to finish.
Lucas Kane feels like creepier and shittier version of Neo from The Matrix. Sure, it could be argued that Neo doesn't have much of personality either, but he does have real struggles and actual character development in the first movie at least, whereas Lucas gets almost everything handed to him in silver platter. We later learn that Lucas always had these premonition powers ever since he was a child, but somehow forgot he had powers during adulthood. He acts all "OMG! I didn't know i could that" even though Lucas by this point should've gotten used to having these powers. What's worse is that there are moments where Lucas could use his powers to solve any situation, but doesn't because only excuse they give is "Noo, i can't do it. I am too weak and tired", but after that scene he uses his powers no problem(similar crap happens in Beyond Two Souls as well, when Jodie is completely helpless against fat creeper, but then takes on 3 baseball bat wielding cronies with ease). Then it occurred to me that David Cage doesn't know how to write compelling arcs nor character development(if at all). In Heavy Rain, Ethan has to learn to risk his life to save his son, even though he already did at the beginning. Sure, he failed, but he tried, but Killer puts him through trials if he can prove to be good dad. In Beyond Two Souls, good old David Cage thought that putting Jodie through many tragic and sexual assault scenarios would make her compelling as a character, but he is dead wrong. As much as i trash Fahrenheit aka Indigo Prophecy for its story, i personally find it entertaining, how the story falls apart dramatically. I know its late, but your videos of David Cage games are joy to watch, Scott. Keep up with amazing content😁🙏👍
I love this game. I think it's completely and utterly mental, but a great journey. From an artistic standpoint: Awesome, clearly David Cages pure vision, pure creativity. From a human standpoint: Mental, insane, bad gameplay but can't help but love the journey. Almost so bad it's great? Great video, although I don't think you like the game as much as I do, I still think you're points were well crafted and perfectly valid! Going to check out your other David Cage game videos.
It's easily my favourite due to how batshit the game gets. It's bad but kind of adorable in it's shortcomings That cannot be said post this game though!
@@ScottsGameAsylum I still get a lot of enjoyment from Heavy Rain, Beyond and Detroit BUT without being rude it reminds me of someone teaching script writing to a mentally unbalanced, hormonal 13/14 year old kid with limited real life experience and then developing that into a high budget feature film. Althought they're all a bit bat shit crazy, the world wouldn't be the same without Quantic Dream / David Cage games... not sure if that's for better or for worse, but just not the same 🤣
@@ScottsGameAsylum Haha, to be fair.. my real job is a content writer, but definitely happy to feed you lines for future David Cage projects, I don't have any video game knowledge outside of his games whatsoever 🤣
The fact that you made this video, with the background music from Deadly Premonition, proves how closely both these games are correlated, both being highly divisive in the community.
I actually love this game in terms of story , the way it was told and some of it's mechanics. While I do agree with you on those QTEs being way too overused in some areas, my only other criticism of this game is the romance between Carla and Lucas. It did seem forced but it could've been delivered better if given more time. But it might've been better to just have them like Carla and Tyler's relationship. Where there's no romance but partners in crime. And I do like David Cage and his games despite the feedback he gets. Sure, he has done some bad things or weird things but you gotta respect the effort he tried to put into his games. Yeah, Telltale has made better games but David's feel so personal and odd. They're also one massive story as opposed to an episodic format.
I'll always have great respect for this game too, it rather stylishly (for the time) reinvented the point and click epic. Cage has good ideas but he just can't write competently half the time. He needs to hire an English or American writing team so that his ideas don't get lost in translation ✍📝
I like this one, has its... issues in more than one way but I was never bored playing it, to me that was good enough. "Amusing", int that David Cage way which not all he's done appeals to me either.
same, enjoyed it despite it's flaws, it's a memorable game. feel similarly regarding Omikron.. a flawed mess, but fascinating in what it was aiming for...
You called Lucas a "frozen tit"! haha! I may need to use that one in my day to day! I'm watching these vids for a second time because nothing is better than hearing Cage get reamed to shreads. Plus, I'm' learning about what these strange things called "emotions" truly are.
The first half of the game was quite interesting and I was so curious to see where they'd take the story. That said, I've never seen a game crash so hard though, I was laughing my ass off for the entirety of the second half.
Just beat this game tonight and this is the same impression I have. QTE's usually tense me up but I was laughing throughout the Dragonball/Matrix fights. Was really taken with the winter murder mystery vibe at first - was feeling a little like Max Payne meets Second Sight, then it just became a Neil Breen film with the Mayan Illuminati and a walking embodiment of Artificial Intelligence competing to overthrow humanity, never how - just is. What in the hell was this?
8:14 wait that's the actual music? I thought that was something you just added in. Btw I just found out about this games existence and looked it up. Found this video. Great thus far.
Yeah that news broke like a month ago. Well, lets just say that SW has been on a hot streak of stinking up the place so DC can only do better than the last few movies. Shit, a Jawa on a pogo stick could write a better SW thing!
This is one of the most BS games I have ever had the displeasure to play. You want your movie like experience so badly? Then make a frickin movie! This design decision just conflicts with everything else. It might be an interesting concept piece, but playing it is a nightmare. The horrendous camera and controls still give me shivers. And about this whole idea of player choices: it doesn't work. It mostly just creates a lot of lose ends to fix, resulting in an incoherent mess. We have seen this all the time by now. They still don't get it.
"The one anime fans are familar with, plot armor" Or you could just say bad writing but since when did anime fans ever display a monicrum of intelligence. Also, I am pretty sure Superman only got himself captured in Man of Steel so he could possibly get humanity's trust, if he breaks from the cuffs that's just one less reason for the latter to trust him. Clark is a boy scout, he isn't a blood thirsty psycho, so he isn't going to break out of the chains anyway. I swear, Zack Snyder haters or almost as bad as Redlettermedia with the Star Wars Prequels.
@@ScottsGameAsylum You are just as vapid as David Cage is. And unlike you, Cage is actually successful. Snyder is also successful. By all means keep making Plinkett style humor, he's one of the reasons why the Star Wars Sequels exist since Abrams directing an SW movie was his idea. Also, going to mute you by the time I post this and got to say, you are a loser as well as a hypocrite.
If David Cage directed the last 3 Star Wars films, the world would be a better place. Not because they'd be good, but because we'd love to see how hard he jumps the shark, never once letting off the gas.
For me back in about 2008-2011 the ending was a bugged quicktime event that for one reason or another was buggy, forced a failure even with trainer cheats so definitely bugged if you could not even cheat through it successfully, leaving me say "what a crappy game" probably for not the first time but for that gameplay run, the last time, saw rest of it from youtube, thought "well I guess I did not miss anything I wanted to play" which was a laugh and my current theory about this "Remastered" release is that it is just a bugfix for this bug in particular among others with a twitter blue checkmark pricetag because F U if you think you are entitled to a free upgrade for broken product you paid for. I actually own the original Indigo Prophecy (and indigo prophesy so maybe it had the smeks I cannot be arsed to remember nor manually remember) and I do not have the remaster. What I can tell from the footage the remaster is not really much of anything aside "Meticulously AI upscaled textures" because the very crappy PS2 era PC UI for controllers that were in no way standardized at the time has been ported to "Remaster" boasting modern xbox and playstation controller support yet did nothing to the UI to accomidate them. I know I am getting pissed off at a david cage's worst if that even can be a competition, but it looks very much the same as I remember it which is very bad for something touting "Modern controller support" - they could not even dig and artificial intelligence up old xbox and PS2 assets. OK I actually made extra sure how the prompts looked across all versions and I could not get over the fact that simon says in stereo is in every version but somehow "Remaster" made them look more fisher price and jarring.
Man I love Heavy Rain. Not because it's good or anything, I actually think every game Quantic Dream has put out has been varying levels of mediocre. It's just a really fun guilty pleasure to laugh at. I even nabbed the PC version when that came out to see how it held up. Luckily it didn't disappoint! Great review as always dude. I've always been interested in this game but never got around to playing it. Glad I didn't waste my time lmao. I will have to disagree with you on the voice actor part though. If a voice fits a character, be they the same race or not, then they should be the voice of said character. Same with gender since there are plenty of women who tend to play male roles such as Timmy Turner, Dexter, and even Bart Simpson. Their voices work for the character they play.
Ahh don't worry about guilty pleasures. I enjoy dumb shit. I used to get very embarrassed by it. But now it's just fun to embrace it. I hear you on the voice actor bit and perhaps I should have expanded on the reason why it annoys me in that game. Especially when the theme throughout is to embrace change and inclusionary with openly gay characters etc. So to employ an actor to play a character of colour that isn't his own goes against the entire message of the game. It's a lack of self awareness from the creatives behind it that pisses me off. I hope that makes sense.
@@ScottsGameAsylum Ah I see your point now. I'll say that is certainly ironic that they never picked up on that, but it's hard to know if that was the team's fault for doing that. After all, the team behind it is French and we don't actually know if they were the ones who localized the game into English. I can see and agree with you to a certain extent though.
I always loved that game and I played Heavy Rain and 1st part was so colorful I almost stop playing it. thankfully game became better when Jason died and Ethan and his wife separated. For me Fahrenheit is awesome game with great story. Sure story goes wild in some places, but just last 3rd goes very fast although when you see dates when some event happens, it show some time has passed. And Carla had reason to trust Lucas because she went to find evidences about other same murders where guy who did murder was caught or killed himself. And no one should criticize authorship of something. if you don' like it, don't play it but original creators must exist because only they are brave enough to tell new story unlike big corporations who always have calculations how much it will made from something and most of time they just remake-reboot things we already saw before. OG authors should be left to do what they want. You just got done talking about the literal computer bugs, yet say the AIs came out of nowhere? Cage thinks "foreshadowing" means telegraphing with light brighter than the sun since the start of his games each and every plot element. I can understand being so bored you didn't think of the bugs as virtual world whatever, but you just commented they were and still say the AIs came out of nowhere? Computer bugs crawling out of the phone, computer bugs attacking, computer bugs screwing with him when the cops stop by, computers flashing "cryptic" warnings- there is no way to miss the giant "computers are also a faction" written in giant blinking neon lights from the moon this was telegraphed so hard.

@@ScottsGameAsylum Haha, to be fair.. my real job is a content writer, but definitely happy to feed you lines for future David Cage projects, I don't have any video game knowledge outside of his games whatsoever 🤣
I just beat this game and the all of the endings were fucking hilarious, I loved it 😂
The fact that you made this video, with the background music from Deadly Premonition, proves how closely both these games are correlated, both being highly divisive in the community.
Angelo Badalamenti worked extensively with David Lynch and this is still the most nonsensical thing he was ever involved with.
I forgot about this game! Well done thanks. Enjoyed your video very much.
Thank you for watching!
I'll always have great respect for this game too, it rather stylishly (for the time) reinvented the point and click epic. Cage has good ideas but he just can't write competently half the time. He needs to hire an English or American writing team so that his ideas don't get lost in translation ✍📝
Loved this video and a lot of what you said resonated with how I felt after I finished it tonight
I like this one, has its... issues in more than one way but I was never bored playing it, to me that was good enough. "Amusing", int that David Cage way which not all he's done appeals to me either.
It's like watching a car crash in slow motion. It's horrible but you can't look away.
@@ScottsGameAsylum Exactly it, but its not a painful boring one, there's ones like that. Kind of what put me off Beyond Two Souls honestly...
same, enjoyed it despite it's flaws, it's a memorable game. feel similarly regarding Omikron.. a flawed mess, but fascinating in what it was aiming for...
Be good if they made another one of these but so it can still be played on the older consoles
One of my favourite game of all time.
I still love this game. Yes, it's insane and makes very little sense, but I just get sucked in
You called Lucas a "frozen tit"! haha! I may need to use that one in my day to day! I'm watching these vids for a second time because nothing is better than hearing Cage get reamed to shreads. Plus, I'm' learning about what these strange things called "emotions" truly are.

lmao that killed me
The first half of the game was quite interesting and I was so curious to see where they'd take the story.
Yup
@@ScottsGameAsylum did you hear that Quantic Dream is apparently working on a star wars game? Just found out and thought WTF.
Yeah that news broke like a month ago. Well, lets just say that SW has been on a hot streak of stinking up the place so DC can only do better than the last few movies. Shit, a Jawa on a pogo stick could write a better SW thing!
i retried the apartement hallucination qte for like 20 time until i finally got it and the same happened for the other qtes
Was the chilli chutney sandwich a red dwarf reference?
"The one anime fans are familar with, plot armor"
Or you could just say bad writing but since when did anime fans ever display a monicrum of intelligence.
All I hear is white noise! I guess my tinnitus is acting up again.
@@ScottsGameAsylum
What?
Can't you hear that? It's like a symphony of bees buzzing!
@@ScottsGameAsylum
You are just as vapid as David Cage is.
"When Auteurism Goes Unchecked"
So this was the first Strand type game, huh.
Nah, unless it's a strand of toilet paper stuck to David's shoe.
its strange to see this getting covered, i remeber watching the trailer for this on x-play
I just got done beating it, I have to admit kinda fun, despite it being an old title and a bit wonky
If David Cage directed the last 3 Star Wars films, the world would be a better place. Not because they'd be good, but because we'd love to see how hard he jumps the shark, never once letting off the gas.
lol those trigger warnings in the beginning are funny
Should add necrophilia to the content warning
Omg, you are so right.
Don't be a hater, in the original version the camera was moved using r1 and l1, really weird in fact, plus nobody forces you to do the tutorial...
Lol
8:26 this rules
Well I hear indigo children is now a thing. A small thing in the whole world. But still a thing. Not my thing but still a thing :/
still more interesting than last of us 2 lol
Yup
Hahaha this game was great going back after heavy rain and beyond 2 souls
Yeah, that quality takes a piledriver into a toilet very quickly.
How would you fix the plot of Fahrenheit to make it a better story?
Edit: What music did you use for this video? It sounds good.
nothing, also deadly premonition
Damn,.. i just bought this on psn and after seeing this video im definitely regretting the 16$ i spent on it 😂
Meh, it's dumb fun
I can see and agree with you to a certain extent though.
should i get this game i can pick it up for $2
Yes

TL:DR
This game is almost 20 years old 😳
aye
better than detroit: become homeless IMO
you laugh at basic tutorial, but how else should I know I have to setup my gamepad to play this?
Just reading this has given me brain rot
They couldn’t give Tyler the luxury of being voiced by an actual black guy either.
What's the point? It doesn't matter as long as he is authentic but he isn't even essential to the story. Why is he even in the game?
to be the token black guy of course. Because our writer is stuck in a 70s cop drama.
i liked the game tho
Please play Omikron
Please, no. Anything but that!
Meh I actually like this game
It's so stupid and funny
what even hahah
TL:DR good point I should of paid for Norton AntiVirus
@@ScottsGameAsylum Yes, well they didn't have a PS2 anti-virus at the time.
This game is dogshit but its so ironically bad and fun in the best way
Racist!? Lol 😆
Context? Rofl!
lol its a garbage game and only works because people have low standards
bro why u hate this game so much
they make best game at that time don't compare to recentent .you should not find the small error and make fun of them😡
lol
great analysis, not sure why there are so many dislikes
Meh, it's probably David Cage sock puppet accounts lol
