The year I turned 9 my family travelled by car from Eidsvoll (close to the capital Oslo) and all the way to Nordkapp (the furthest northern point in mainland Norway). To accompany us on the trip was a casette with comedy sketches interspersed by the pop-music of the time. For a couple of weeks this was the soundtrack of my life. Nostalgic to hear it again, for sure.

I left school, aged 16, in 1987 and went onto a Youth Training Scheme (YTS) and immediately fell for a girl on one of the courses. Sadly that didn't work out but I remember this song fondly because of it.

Amazing Dollar were still having hits 10 years after they started. They survived the early 80s british pop explosion where tehy coulda got buried under all the acts. But few of those huge superstar groups could still have hits in the late 80s. Dollar had a very rollercoaster ride career with like 3 waves of success. They didnt really have stability they had to fight for every hit.
@@isotopia7681 they just made great pop music that still holds up. I dont think they ever had a strong fanbase, sold albums, big concerts, or made any money. Just great pop singles. Their trevor horn singles are 80s masterpieces.

It annoys me that they have often been derided when the hits and so many of their other songs were so good, utilising the technology of the time to amazing effect. Without Trevor Horn's work with them the eighties might have turned out very differently and not as richly. He essentially created the eighties sound yet whenever he is credited with pushing the sonic boundaries of what the technology could be made to do, Dollar is very rarely mentioned. The performance at the Princes Trust concert in 2004 is superb. I listen to a lot of music of various genres. The Dollar album remains one of the best albums of the last forty years in my book.

I do like Dollars cover of Erasures song a year before so catchy works well with David and Thereza 2voices hand and hand guy and girl fantastic ive got the long version of this brilliant on my 80s remixed CD it's superb done in the last year.This part of the greatest decade of all time never to forget miss it so much oh hail the 80s
Interesting. Erasure did a lot of covers, but this was their original song - and it took merely one year (1986-1987) untill somebody (Dollar) made a cover.

The sleeve design and photography for this release was the most stunning of their career, which makes it that much more surprising to find out, all these years later, that the video was a cheap and dissapointing affair. What a missed opportunity. It was a very impressive idea to cover Oh L'amour and the result was a brilliant pop single. They should have tried harder with the video, to match the class of the packaging.

They don't come off great in the video- if they had combined the hand held, sloppy footage with beautiful studio close ups that could have made a lovely video. A nice finished product. This was several years after expensive, epic videos by the likes of A-ha, and when 'Oh L'amour' was released, artists like Rick Astley or Bananarama to name a few, had immaculate-looking, slick and very impressive videos out in heavy rotation. Like I said in my original comment, alot of work went into the packaging and the advertisements for this single, and this is why the video left me wanting more. A Great single nevertheless.

I was an extra, we wandered around, pretending to be friends enjoying the day out. That's all there was to it, a phoney pop video for two phoney people.
I think once a person is set-up to become a musical performer and hits some basic fane. That when there shop life is over. They still need that attention.
