  • Since I launched the Hr swap 350z build a lot of you guys have been asking what all I had to do to make the Hr engine fit and work in the De Chassis.
    In this video I overview the steps necessary to make the swap work in an OEM configuration as if it came from the factory with the Hr engine.

    I dont know why wiring specialties hasn't created a harness for this swap. There are a lot of DE cars out there with high mileage that are due for either a complete rebuild, or replacement of the motor. Since these motors are plentiful and cheap, it makes a lot of sense to restomod. I understand your desire to keep the car in OE configuration. Virginia vehicle safety inspections require a vehicle to have a motor of the same or newer year as the chassis and it has to have all of the original emissions systems.

    This is really well done. I’m just having a hard time seeing why one would want to do this though. What’s worth it about it? I get that it’s the “better” motor but any of the shortcomings a DE has, it could be modified without just basically matching everything to be found under the hood of an HR. Just seems like a TON of investment for a slightly better motor.

    • @DarkMan2555
      @DarkMan2555 Год назад

      It seems like the DE fans won't work b/c the HR coolant overflow tank will be in the way of the fan shroud. If you are using an HR radiator. Wiring would probably also be an issue, b/c I don't know how/where the DE fans connect to.

    call me a hater but HR swapping your G or Z for thousands of dollars only to gain extra 20 wheel hp is not worth it lol. Especially if you’re going to stay NA, it’s a waste imo. Yes the HR will handle over 500 wheel hp on a stock engine vs the DE being limited to under 500 and a safe 400 torque, but unless you ACTUALLY plan to swap an HR on a G35 or 350Z and ADD A CUSTOM TURBO KIT which not one person has, then it’s not worth it. At that point just sell your car make extra money and save up for an HR if you want, I once wanted to do an HR swap but I’m a DE boy.

      @@rudyadan6113 I’ve heard people say DE is prone to burning significantly more than an HR, but there’s really no real statistical references. Technically speaking all VQs will or can burn oil, eventually. I only started noticing small oil consumption on my non revup DE at 160k miles, I think it can come down to how well maintained the engine is, and imo all VQs should have an OIL COOLER when starting out with mods and an oil catch can to stop your plenum from being soaked in oil 👍

    What's the estimated total cost for this swap? My G35X has 206k, it's still going strong and I can see it easily lasting another 80k. It's in great condition and has been taken extremely great care of. However I've been looking into the different swap options for this car. I'd basically be deleting the AWD, I'm not sure if the OEM rear driveshaft is at the same spot as the RWD. This may be a deal breaker for me, hopefully it isn't. I just need to figure out weather I want to build a VQ37VHR for a supercharger rather than a TT set up. But if it's easier to do a VQ35HR swap, then I may go that route. Since it appears that there are more successful HR swaps. I may look into the V8 VK45DE swap or VR30DDTT swap as well. I basically want to stick with Nissan, rather then doing a cookie cutter LS1 swap.

      HR is substantially less complicated than the VHR. There is 0 canbus backwards compatibility from the VHR to the HR or DE cars, and you end up having to run both the VHR ECU and the DE ECU to maintain communication to the DE body harness. It is possible to use a VHR block and rotating assembly with HR heads.
