    Great vid. Tip for these. First mark the dots with a marker pen, so you can check the positions - it's easier to the encoding part then the punching part rather than keep swapping. Second, 3D print a cap or handle for the punch - it makes it significantly easier (or you can use a towel or gardening gloves).

    Thank you for giving us a real world experience, without sugar coating it, that's super cool.
    I think the best way to do that is to create your own coding system who makes sense to you only. Creating relationships between certain letters or numbers to mixup everything for people or program. Once your unique language transforming your initial seed phrase, you keep it somewhere.
    And in case your house burn, you also break it up and give it to people with another making sense distribution as order to recombine the seed phrase (timeline I met those people, age etc..). You just remember 3 words you never share like that nobody can recreate the code anyway. Then you can go to the people and ask them to keep preciously a little paper just in case. Or send it with an encrypted program like signal if you are on it (with the iPhone keyboard, not a 3rd party keyboard of course) and you are pretty much set. Good luck to anyone who want to find your seed phrase.
    That was my 2 cents :)

      Now THAT is a seed backup system! The only problem with a system like that is you might forget how the system works and good luck explaining it to the people who need to know! Good luck and thank you for the comment!

    • @CaptainCodeman
      @CaptainCodeman 14 дней назад

      Rather than using an obscure system which is easy to forget and lock yourself out of, you can protect against someone discovering (and using) your seed phrase by storing multiple seeds that are combined with Seed XOR. The cold-card supports that natively and you get 2x seed plates in a pack, so it works well. That is then a 2-of-2 backup though, you can also create a 2-of-3 backup to allow for some redundancy, and each backup is itself a valid seed phrase so can act as decoy / alert wallets to protect the main store.

    When I disconnected from the Internet as instructed, the video stopped playing.
    On a more serious note, I think that product may be somewhat over priced. There are metal working punches that you can buy at a hardware store (or on Amazon if you must) where you use a hammer. The spring loaded punches can be hard on your hands. You also need a firm, hard surface that you can temporarily affix the plate to so it won't move and you don't dent your table. You will probably also save a few bucks. As for the actual tags, I like those. I wish you could buy a bunch of them as a separate purchase. Titanium is not especially expensive, but having the tags pre-stamped with the numbers, grid, and start dimples is very convenient.
    As for the representation of the dots you are stamping in, it is just 12bit binary. Instead of using 0 for the index, the word list is starting with 1. If you lose the booklet, you can download the list from the Internet. So at least you won't be stuck with a code that can't be decoded.
    At first this looked like another sales video. But you showed the issues with the product. So I gave you a like.

      Great points! I try to be honest. There are some products I like and some I don't. I like this product well enough but it is tough to use with the spring punch. Incidentally, I left the punch in my carry-on and now I don't have a punch anymore and I'm not allowed to travel with a hammer either. I don't have a home, I just travel from place to place. So I need something that I can work with on the road. Thank you for the Like!

      @@SVRNMoney Do you have an opinion on what the best plates are for a seed phrase? I can't decide what to get. I don't like that you said it was hard to tell which square a couple of dots were in.

    • @SVRNMoney
      @SVRNMoney  2 месяца назад

      @@infinitemonkey917 For me, I really like a seed plate that is fairly small, durable and inconspicuous. I like the 'code' these plates use so someone doesn't get your seed phrase into their head with a simple glance. As far as more traditional seed storage plates, I REALLY like the ColdTi plates. They are available on Amazon here: amzn.to/3AMZIYN I would get the dual pack and use each seed word's corresponding BIP-39 number or some other cipher rather than the actual word but that's just me. I would encourage you to make a few copies as well. Make sure you get the punch kit if you don't have one. Good luck.

    Beside the useless 2048 column, wouldn't it be easier and cheaper to just use a hammer and center punch on any metal plate? The matrix you can scratch or overlay with paper.

      @ in the video a demonstration was made using a punch. It was very difficult to use and eventually a mark was made on a selected square on the titanium card, but the mark was off centre. If you have a few of these off centre marks - it could be very misleading. With all things crypto, I believe accuracy is paramount.
