X3 is not the small brother of X4. It may even be a bit bigger. X4 is a "coupe" X3

I don't like that back at all ..
Not that bad in the outside, especially now that they changed the back of it. But, the interior looks no more different than a 2002 BMW 7 series. Audi and Mercedes-Benz have moved on and they have made the 3rd (4th for Mercedes) style of interior design since 2002. They really need to move on already! Great review though, thumbs up, Brian!

I was so happy the sorted out the back of the car, but... I'm not quite so how I feel about the front now.
Then again, looks are not a strong point in this SUV Coupe weird segment.

Looks good inside out, nicely muscular, and probably great to drive. This will definitely be on top of the list for my next vehicle.

my aunt owns the predecessor, the wind noise on the autobahn is god awfull.. you have to shout the be able to understand each other if you go over 120kph
Mercedes and BMW! Sadly I see perfect engineering and perfect detailing but lately (since many years) I don't see great car-designers there! Lot of weak points in the shapes of their cars which puts them on the commercial side where they are not!

Man this is ugly, the predecessor was ugly and now they managed to make it even uglier :-D I just don't get that coupe suv concept, why one shouldn't just buy a normal X3?

I think the X4 has aged really well. I didn’t even realize that it was time for a new one.
Problem with all the X series its not ment for 4 adults. Its horrible design if some adults that are 180cm+ height have to sit comfortably backseat. I guess thats a tradeoff for design but really bad for practicality

I really don't like BMW cars, event the brand, because they are too more conservative for design. I they don't change interior design, the front design the headlight all model the same with CD slot in the dashboard. Who the hell use CD in cars in 2018 when you have Apple carplay, Android auto and USB ports. And event for a premium car you can get full digital screen in front all the same. Event Audi change headlight, inside and outside design. Don't yell me I will never buy a BMW cars, never at all.
Why should they change the interior design? That's as relevant as the idiots saying "The car looks like the old one". Well it's not going to look different, apart from small design elements. The interior is high quality and well laid out. BMW doesn't need to change the design to suit internet "experts". The design works and no it's not the same as 10 years ago. It's very different.
Then don't buy it, simple. Most people that complain about BMWs don't have the money to buy them anyway. But I agree with you about the CD slot, who uses CDs nowadays? Maybe keep the dashboard layout but change the slot to SD cards input and such.

Very bad design this time around. The rear is hideous and makes it look like BMW is trying to copy Mercedes and Porsche design elements. I don't understand why many German brands are starting to move toward these very slim and rather simple and cheap looking rear tail light assemblies. The older gen cars had way nicer exteriors IMO. Thanks to Porsche (sarcastic tone intended)... Now all the other German manufacturers think it's cool to have slim tail lights in the rear. Bad idea.
Just a shame that bmw (and Audi) is the most expensive and least reliable cars you can buy. Weird and not worth the money if you ask me. A pleasure to drive but you need deep pockets 🤔
I have never seen the point in this model. The rear seating is just so poor and not great for families.

No this is indeed vs F-PACE. The X6 is 30.000 Euros more expensive than the F-PACE.
I just switched from an F-Pace to this the X4 M40i. I've been a fan of Ian Callum at Jaguar since his days at Aston Martin, and had an F-Type before the F-Pace. The F-Pace has been great for the last few years, but to be honest I just got tired of the little issues with it. The cargo design is awkward, and little issues like the car refusing to remember start-stop, air conditioning settings, drive settings, etc. It just feels a few generations behind.
I could put up with these issues in my Jaguar F-Type because it was a sports car so I could deal with the "manual" feel of it all. But in an SUV all the little things add up to frustration.
The BMW by contrast is much better put together. And the M40i has a monster engine. I was a fan of the Chris Bangle era BMWs, so I like the X4 design. I also had an BMW (F10) 550i from the post-Bangle era but found it very, very boring. I'm in the minority, but as a longtime design enthusiast and a fan of Jaguar's design language, I find the X4 a lot more compelling than the F-Pace.
There's so little in this category that is interesting these days. I do really like the prototypes for the new Aston Margin DBX...

The old one was fugly. This one looks like the old one had a baby witht the equaly fuglu GLC Coupé. It's so entertaining that fans of euro brands bash asian brands for copying, when the "prides" of the euro car world do nothing els but copy each other. BMW/Mercedes release a new car. Two weeks later the other one release an identical one - with another front end. The new Mercedes GT hatchback (or four door coupe as they cutly try to call it) is just an ugly Panamera - dragging Porsche into it as well.
