Whilst India was indeed being occupied by the British in WW2 2.5 milliom Imdians served in the British-Indian army. They fought the Italians in Ethiopia and Eritrea. They fought the Afrika Korp and the Italian's in North Africa and after Tunis fell took part in the Invasion of Italy. In the east they tried to defend Malaya and Burma from the Japanese. In 1944 they would defeat a Japanese invasion of India at the battles of Imphal and Kohima and then the following year drive the Japanese from Burma. Of course the British have made barely any films featuring Indian army units in this war and neither has India to my knowledge. I can only think off hand of a Sikh engineer officer in the English Patient.
I feel I should mention that The Pacific is more murderous than this series, it shocks many. One the places were the battles were fought were harder. Two the Japanese were quite prepared to commit atrocities against prisoners which racked up the hatred, which was already much higher than it was for the German's because they were Asian. You will see some awful things.

You are so right when you say that it feels like Winters is your friend. This series did an amazing job portraying these men. Even after watching it for 30+ times, I still shed tears in the end. Great reaction!

There is another part to the series you could watch...it is called We Stand Alone Together, and it is an excellent collection of longer clips from the interviews with the actual veterans. Some of the material in the collection is already seen at the beginning of some of the episodes, but you also see more of the context in which those interview segments at the beginning of each episode are spoken. A lot of reactors go ahead and react that the collection, in large part because so many reactors love the show so much and do not want it to be over.😁

Something else by Tom Hanks, which every time I see it makes my heart feel that much lighter, is Apollo 13. That one also led to a similar mini series called From The Earth To The Moon. Extremely highly recommended.

Wonderful comments as always! Yes, we are very fortunate to live when we do. The U.S. where I am from, as the lone Super Power has presided over the most peaceful and prosperous period in human history. We have also, freed more people than every country in human history......combined. Can't wait for more of your shows!!! P.S. Hope you react to Steven Spielberg & Tom Hanks: "The Pacific." That was a much tougher part of WW2. My father was decorated as a forward mortar scout on Iwo Jima. He never came back the same.

Greetings from America! I enjoyed watching this amazing series with you and your questions and comments showed that you were truly invested in these men and their stories. It was very touching to see how moved you were - your tears actually brought me to tears! The men and women who lived during this time (most of whom grew up during the Great Depression) and served in the military or who kept things together at home, came to (very deservedly) be called "The Greatest Generation". I am very happy to subscribe to your channel - keep up the great work - it's appreciated!

Also, the reason you didn't see the names of the real veterans until the end is because Spielberg wanted to create a sense of anxiety. If you knew who the speakers are, you'd know what "characters" lived thru the war and wouldn't worry about them during the prior episodes. By hiding them, you never knew if the people on the screen were going to live or die, so you felt anxious for them the whole time.

Much of what is shown in Band of Brothers Easy Company did not do. Easy Company did not liberate a concentration camp, did not capture Berchtesgaden, were not the first to reach the Eagle's Nest, members did not kill an unnamed commandant of an unnamed concentration camp, and much more, but there are people who believe they did.

Thank you for taking us along on your first watch - I've really enjoyed seeing the show again through your eyes.

I think many people like us sometimes experience this strong emotion for the end of something so beautiful, even if it is a simple show ✨ But I think this feeling can just tie people together all over the world, and this is why I follow and appreciate so much your channels 🥰

Floyd Craver was the drunken Private from Idle Company who shot Grant in the head. He received a dishonourable discharge and a life sentence for two counts of murder, one count of attempted murder and one count of desertion. The latter was rescinded, because in July of '87 he died as a result of a head on collision with a truck, riding on a motorbike whilst intoxicated.

I agree that they should be given respect, but they should not be given credit for things they never did. For example, Easy Company never liberated a concentration camp, did not capture Berchtesgaden, were not the first to reach the Eagle's Nest, and did not kill an unnamed commandant of an unnamed concentration camp. I could go into more examples such as the almost completely fictional storyline in episode 6 and many other instances but I believe I've already presented enough examples.

while not directly responsible, they took part in battles that resulted in that result and did indeed come across camps, so they were in the area and effecting the freedom of liberating them. You sound salty af and should probably be a little more forgiving on the directors having some freedom to liberally apply some revisionism to make a more engaging show that is also educational, this specific work camp they came across they DID come across 1 day after it was officially liberated.@@iammanofnature235

*Some of the many inaccuracies in Band of Brothers:*
    1) Both Renée Lemaire and Augusta Chiwy, known as the Angels of Bastogne, were volunteer nurses at the aid station of the 20th Armored Infantry Battalion, Combat Command B, 10th Armored Division. Renée Lemaire does not appear to have ever met Doc Roe (Eugene Roe) and she did not die in a church as shown in episode 6.
    2) The camp liberation and associated scenes shown in episode 9 are fictional. The camp depicted in Band of Brothers is Kaufering IV which was actually liberated by the 12th Armored Division on April 27, 1945, with some units of the 101st Airborne Division arriving on April 28 and Easy Company arriving on April 29 (with the 522nd Field Artillery Battalion and 36th Infantry Division arriving on April 30). And there were only about 7 prisoners found alive along with about 500 bodies.

    3) Easy Company did not liberate Berchtesgaden nor were they the first to reach the Eagle's Nest as shown in episode 10. The 7th Infantry Regiment of the 3rd Infantry Division is credited with the liberation of Berchtesgaden on May 4, 1945, and members of the French 2nd Armored Division are credited with being the first to reach the Eagle's Nest in the early morning of May 5. Easy Company arrived a few hours later.
    4) Also, in episode 10 members of Easy Company did not kill an unnamed commandant of an unnamed concentration camp. This is based on the shooting of Franz Ziereis who had been commandant of Mauthausen. He had tried to hide out at his mountain hunting cabin but was spotted and reported. On May 23, 1945, U.S. Army soldiers attempted to arrest him, and he was shot three times trying to escape. He died the next day in a U.S. Army hospital. No members of Easy Company were involved.

I hope you are doing better regarding the problems you mentioned.
Concerning your part of the world, the US and Great Britain were allies, of course, but there was tension. President Roosevelt made it clear that the US was not fighting to help the British preserve their empire.
After seeing what the Germans had done in France, Belgium, and Holland, and the Nazi concentration camps, they felt absolutely entitled to take any Nazi loot they wanted.

Yes, the Waffen-SS, which was the military branch of the Nazi paramilitary group the SS (Schutzstaffel, the Protection Squadron) were mostly culpable. They were the ones who held the strongest Nazi beliefs and belonged to the political party, which is at its core what the Nazis were. A good way to think of it is that the Nazis are like the Ba’ath Party. The regular Waffen, or army, was made up of Germans of all parties and beliefs, while the SS were definitely Nazis with Nazi beliefs.

General Hosh Mohammad Sheedi was a military leader of Talpur dynasty in Sindh. He belonged to the African community settled over here and is highly respected for his services to our motherland. Another figure who fought with British Raj at that time is Peer Pagara, althought I need to check which one as Peer Pagara isn't a name but a title and is literally a king. He still holds a office here, anyways the Pir Pagara of that time was executed in the end by the British Raj. You will be even fascinated that the Talpur dynasty of Sindh even signed an instrument with both Mohammad Ali Jinnah (founder of Pakistan) and the British Government that Pakistani state will let the Khairpur be an independent state. That instrument is why Pakistan came into first place. Such instruments were also signed by different leaders (tribal mostly) in Sindh and Balochistan. But they broke all promises after Pakistan came into being. We have a very rich but sad history. From the time when Arabs invaded us to the present, we are being taught to hate our own native culture and practices, to work for powerful people and make them more powerful.
