    For things like that u shall use roller brush, its act bit better when stitches line is bit curvy

    You also got an "auto stitches" tool which works pretty well

      You're welcome Nina :)
      Saints Row: I believe it's in the "tools" shelf, it works pretty much like a generator, where you can choose to generate your stitches from curvature, occlusion, etc then tweak the size of the stitches :)
      (to be honest, i prefer adding this kind of details with Zbrush, but if it's something small, you might as well do it with the auto-stitches)

    Instead of copy the layer, you could use "anchor layers" instead :)
