How to Sharpen skis at home
In this video I go over the full preparation of a new ski. This includes pulling sidewall, shaping the tip and tail, base bevel and shaping the top sheet. I then tune the ski for the first time, cutting in my preferred edge angles and smoothing it out with diamond stones so it is ready to ski.

How Do I prep my skis to start the season?
I hand tune my skis, this preparation is necessary to expose the edge from the sidewall and second edge so that I can effectively tune my skis.
What do I need to do to a new ski?
This process generally takes 20-30 minutes per edge on a retail ski. On a race ski this process may take you an hour per edge.
I do not get into waxing or preparing the base of the skis int his video. However I always wax my skis 4-8 times before using them.
For the day to day tuning video follow this link.

Me,: wow, that's a lot of equipment.
Ski Dad: "You really don't need anymore than this."
Awesome. That was super thorough. Thanks very much!!
Awesome video, loved it
Interesting but if you have a vise, USE IT, for your safety. And yess pulling offers better control on the weight applied AND when the files slips reducing the risk of cutting yourself.
How do you like that thunderbird? I was debating getting that one or the firebird HRC, they seem very similar. Great video!
The thunderbird is good, it came with a 12DIN binding which I swapped with a 14 DIN off my SRC’s. With the 14 they are a great ski.
You may want to go with the HRC simply due to the better binding
Hope this helps
Did you get the skis flat before you did all this edge prep? If so how did you flatten the base?
I checked the bases with a true bar and they were good enough for me. The tip and tail were flat on the base and the rest of the ski was within my .75 base bevel.
If it were a race ski I would have gotten it ground flat at a shop to start.
Blizzard factory prep is some of the best in the game!
Which angles do you recomend for good recreational skiers? I have Salomon Smax Blast, with 1/88 angle, do you consider this a good option, or should I go with diferent angles?
That is the “standard” I would use it with confidence
Thank you!
Is this necessary? In any case good video 👍🏼
I have taken skis right out of the wrapper, no wax no tune, and they have performed great. Shaping and prepping takes a ski that is a 90 and makes it a 100. More importantly however it allows you to properly tune the ski tip to tail and more efficiently for the entire life of the ski.
so you just prepared brand new skis and where is video skiing them? :D
At the end of the prep video I give em a rip Patryk, I had them out Monday however I was solo and did not get the footage. They are a strong weapon and the heavy angle carving video will be coming out soon
@@skidadTV nice, I like ur skiing. I thought its older video on SL. So it turns :)
