I'm very impressed about the video quality and all of the effort put into this. This channel is SEVERELY underrated and you deserve every bit of praise that you receive. Also, Van Isle 4 life!
Cheers! I appreciate the positive feedback. I’ve really been trying to improve my videography skills. 400 subscribers sure feels like a lot haha. I’m happy here with a solid group of good subs.
I work in a. motorcycle dealer that bought ski repair equipment from an outdoor store that went out of business. It keeps us busy in the winter months. This is the first winter working as a ski and snowboard tech. We're in southwest Virginia. It's turning out to be a good time. I work at our dealer as a bike tech year round, so I enjoy this kind of work. We have a fairly primitive setup, especially compared to what's in this video, but it gets the job done. The work requires attention to detail, checks and balances, knowledge, standardization and so on. I have a LOT to learn and experience. This edit was sick, well done sir.
Nice, I appreciate the positive response to the video. I'm sure you guys will do great work with the equipment you've got for the local skiers and boarders. The shop I worked at had a solid rental fleet which was great to work on skills regularly without experimenting or learning on client skis or boards. Best luck out there on the east coast!
I just got out my snowboard for the first time in a year and I’m not very experienced on the whole tuning of the board and there’s definitely some scuffs and it needs to be waxed, I’m very happy I came across your video. Keep up the great work!
Unfortunately my experience was the opposite, they does not guarantee any base/side angle to not change machine configuration as also put a allweather wax even i asked to not put anything because i wanna use a base prep soft was... So the xp i have is: big shops with nice machinery dont customise anything, and small shops would do the same i would do in home with candles and even manual grind with sand paper :(
That’s an unfortunate experience. I was happy to work on a smaller shop that valued service and prioritized customer service. I hope you’re able to find a shop that meets your expectations! Happy skiing bud!
The shop I work in has a wintersteiger scout as our main base and edging machine. All of the techs will begrudgingly change the angles for a customer when they specify and seem to believe that a skier won't feel the difference between different angles. It is very strange, but they will adjust the angles in the machine upon request. We also have nice ptex guns and do a combination machine/infrared wax process as standard. Overall the most important thing to our shop boss is only letting high quality work leave the doors. If your shop won't change from their standard angles for you, find a different shop and tell your friends. There are too many shops around to deal with low quality work.
I’ve only worked in a few shops, never owned one. Depending on your timeline, it would likely be best to work in one for a while or hire an experienced manager that could teach you if you’ve got the funds to start the shop! Good luck, always stoked to see more local shops.
Have you ever had a professional ski or snowboard tune?

Thank you for the support! Stick with it and take it slow, it’s a great sport but it takes a bit to get things dialed.

Glad to hear it!
Do you own your own ski shop?? If so any chance i could get pointers on perhaps opening one in a small canada town with no ski board or bike shop
