How to Use GE French Door Refrigerator Diagnostics, Forced Defrost, Sabbath Mode and Demo Mode

- If you own a GE French Door Refrigerator, it has a different diagnostic test sequence than their other refrigerators. We found this out the hard way when we worked on this unit to run tests.
So for this 2021 GE French Door Refrigerator, we ran it through the test modes available in the service manual, which includes things like the Demo Mode, Sabbath Mode, Forced Defrost, and a few other tests. My hope is that if you need to troubleshoot your GE Refrigerator, this may be able to help you.

Thank you for this. My ice maker has been acting up and I went to messing around and somehow turned the freezer off. Did the reset and now hear it running again.

I have a GE cafe model CVE28DP2NS1. Recently without warning the ice all melted and it seems the ice box fan won't constantly run. The fan is operational (temporarily) as it works if I unplug the fridge for a while and plug back in. Then once the ice starts forming the side wall where the air comes through to the icemaker from the fridge gets warm to the touch and the ice melts. Maybe a defrost cycle is coming on? I replaced the thermistor in the icemaker to no avail. I'm at a loss

Ben, i have same fridge, 3 years old. the water valve / solenoid is buzzing. im getting about 65 volts AC, there at the plug. the valve ohms out good at around 300 ohms...yes, i tried a new solenoid too. do you know where the solenoid gets the voltage? i was thinking a bad diode, but dont know where it's located. any help appreciated.
Does the control panel light up? Hard to see it at night and only shows the light under water/ice selector

I have model # GFE24JMKBFES french door. My ice maker stops dispensing water into the ice tray. I defrost the door w/ a heater gun and it works again from anywhere between 2-3 weeks and stops working. I have replace the main valve at the backside of the fridge along w/ the valve in the door. There appears to be a sensor in the freezer door and I believe this sensor may be the issue. I ran through your diagnostics and i had 007 and 009 continue to flash w/o showing a P or F code. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance

I have a PYE22KYNHFS which is similar to the one but I have 4 digits and it shows 00 00. Where can I get a list of each test codes for my model?

thanks for this, unfortunately my GYE22HSKGSS fridge has two sets of numbers that come up when pressing the three options to enter diagnostic mode, so not sure how to proceed!
This only works for this GE profile refrigerator. It doesn't work with model GE GYS22GSNSS 22.2
I have the ice maker turned off but it keeps freezing around the air vents into ice maker & freezing the handle. There is condensation in my fridge & the drawers keep freezing especially behind the giant bottom drawer. I have to defrost for 8hrs & restart over. But it only lasts a few months. I only have fridge half full. Keep everything away from vents on top. The bottom vents are blocked by the doors. I cleaned the coils & the bottom pan. Is there something else wrong or does this fridge just suck. It passed all the tests you showed in this video. Help

My GE fridge (GYE22) isn't keeping things cool, but only on the top part of the refrigerator.
It has 3 fans (that I can see) on the inside -- 2 on the left that connect to the ice bucket, and one on the very top. I can only feel air coming out of the bottom left fan.
I have read the manual and can't figure out what is normal? Should there be air coming out of all 3? Are there more fans? I clearly don't understand how a refrigerator works...any insight would be appreciated!

Do you know how to enter diagnostic mode on the GE French door style fridge GNE29GSKESS? Manufactured in 2017
Mine is stuck on F C and F and door lock off. The buttons beep and work but doesn't show me any temperatures

keep pressing it once temperature reaches 43 or so it resets to 34 where you can keep increasing to your desired amount
I've been on several service calls where the fridge was on saboth mode and the customer has no idea why it's acting up
This one is tough because there's no indication there's it's actually going on other than context clues like no lights. Super easy to get into sabbath mode on this one too. I'm working on a Frigidaire video, and it's sabbath mode locks you out but says SA on the doors at all times. Same thing with demo mode- there's other clues.
Not too happy with the options on this one really. Whirlpool and Frigidaire are way more intuitive.
My water dispensers always has a low flow of water.Had several filters changed but that doesn’t seem permanently fix the issue.Would a defrost mode help or better yet adjust the water pressure?
I'd check if there's any calcium/ect build up on the nozzle that could reduce the flow.

Do you have an Reverse osmosis system ? If you do you need a bypass filter. That will cause low water pressure because your basically running through 2 filter system if you have reversed osmosis
Very nice video. Do you have a link so I can get the service mode list for a GE DFE28JMKBES refrigerator? It has a similar interface but has a 4 digit display. My evaporator fan is acting odd occasionally and I have one ordered for my unit.
I also have this alternate model. Cannot figure out how to run tests on it and have scoured the internet. Any information would be awesome.
Same! I’m not sure what it is, but there is a motor revving noice coming from the fridge. It’s off and on. I guess it could be the evaporator fan as well. But now I can’t make ice. Ugh very frustrating.
Bought the evap fan a few months ago but didn't install it since the original fan appeared to be ok after thawing some. Finally had to replace it last week. The new fan has 5 blades instead of 3 and makes a higher pitch noise but at least it's working. 37 deg is as low as my fridge will go.

Have you every worked on a GE fridge that won’t get colder than 40 degrees. We just bought our fridge from Lowe’s, and the Fridge temp will not go any lower. We called Lowe’s and they told us to contact GE. GE sent out a repairman who ended up ordering a sensor and replacing a board, and the fridge still won’t get any colder than 40 degrees. Could it be a mode on the fridge?

Thank you for this video! My ice dispenser is not turning the ice into the tray and while trying to figure out how to do that, I accidentally put my fridge in demo mode. Thanks to this video I was able to get it out of that mode. Now can you help me figure out how to get the ice to go into my he bucket? I wasn’t successful in my troubleshooting on this
Whats temperature in the icemaker? These styles need it to be under 10*F for the system to auto-dump
@@bensappliancesandjunk the freezer is set on 0 degrees Fahrenheit like recommended. Not sure about the ice maker. How can I figure that out?
@@taras9678 Thermostat/thermometer. These won't turn ice into the tray unless the sensor shows
@taras9678 did you ever get this figured out? I have been working with mine and noticed the tray is not freezing into cubes its been 20+ hours. I did a reset just now via this video Test 12.
@@deerslayer422There may be something wrong with the diverter fan that sends ice from the freezer into the icemaker compartment. If it is clogged with ice or the rotation of the fan is too slow, it will not produce the proper temperature in that compartment.

I have a GE Profile bottom refridgeerator PFE24HSLNKSS worked great for the fist 2 years, now the coil in the bottom freezer freezes up or doesn't defrost can I use the forced defrost in the diagnostic for it to unfreeze the coils
You can attempt to. If theres a damaged component with the defroster though, it likely won't work and needs repaired.
@@bensappliancesandjunk Wouldn't the defrost cycle be controled by the mother circuit board or is there a sensor that controls this function
@@user-il9re3ox1g the board attempts to send a signal to turn it on. But there are multiple sensors + the physical defrost heater that must be working in order for the cabinet to heat up and de-ice the system

Have a new ge frig and after changing water filter the first time the replace filter will not go off. I was careful and the chip is on back side. Now says its 3 days overdue. Any suggestions?
Was it an OEM GE filter?
you have to manually reset the water filter control button itself. If you have a "reset filter" button, try holding it down for 3-5 seconds.

Sabbath Mode
Press and hold lock & light simultaneously for 3 seconds to enter/exit Sabbath mode. Activate Sabbath Mode to turn off interior lights, temperature control and advanced features. Compressor will run on a timed defrost when in Sabbath mode.
I just recently replaced the filter but it's still blinking red. Any ideas??

Do you know the common issue with this fridge not cooling Fresh food properly? Fan or Sealed system? I had 2 same fridges in one day staying at 50 degrees and looks like everything else is working... 1 year ld and 3 year old fridges....

Hi, I'm not a frige tech, but I know that sometimes our panel buttons get hit just right so the temperature gets changed without us realizing it until everything is either frozen or spoiled.
My suggestion is to check that your temps are set correctly and then lock the control panel to prevent accidental button hitting.
Hi!! This is Very Annoying - I have a GE French Door with a Panel with a dashboard profile - Turbo Cool - Energy Saver - Water Filter - Door Alarm - Actual Temp & Lock Controls - Model: PNR22MSEBFES
For the life of me - I can't stop the constant beeping - How do you turn off / On the Beeper sound - There must be a way - the manual does not show how to disable the beeper sound -
Steps taken - Unplug/Plug the Power cable - Turned off/on the Power Switch to the control panel -
Nothing I tried stops the beeping sound -

Door Alarm
Sounds to alert when the freezer or fresh food doors have been left open.
Press and hold Door Alarm pad and it will toggle the sound between low, high and off.
Do these really require 24 hours (door shut) to get down to 34F, or does mine have an issue? .....37F after 12 hours

First of all this refrigerator sucks for 2500$ it constantly goes into a over cooling freezer and a warm fridge

Know your media. I hate this fridge. The drawers keep freezing over with chunks of ice. At 38°. I have to keep defrosting my fridge. It's like the drawers block the air. Dumbest design ever.
