+Kobayashi Yeah, that kinda blew my mind. I always thought "Lorne Malvo" was some kind of derivative of "malevolent loner" or something but the whole devil idea didn't occur to me. I'd be interested in what kind of analysis they'd come up with for season 2!
The way Malvo looks when he asks Lester, "Is this what you want?" is pretty scary. His eyes and face change, he looks so menacing and dark...Billy Bob Thorton killed it. One of the best villains I've seen on a show.
The thing about Billy Bob Thornton is, at least to me, he seems like the type that could do this in real life. Guess he's a pretty good actor... I hope.
I think that most people don't realize just how cruel this scene really was. For the past six months Malvo had been with that woman and had even proposed marriage to her. However, this all happened off-screen so it doesn't really sink in that he had just discarded her like nothing. I mean, just imagine being her with the man she thought she was going to spend her life with, and then this totally happens out of thin air.
Cus Melvo is a sociopath he feels no empathy towards people or anything this was a job to him so when it got ruined he aborted mission by killing them all
well to be fair, she's marrying a "rich" guy who is like 20 years her senior. she's not exactly marrying for love nor was she planning on staying married for to many years before divorcing and taking half his cash,
Lester was picked apart, bullied, pushed down over and over again for being different. For being overly passive and nice. He didn't want to hurt anyone, wasn't ambitious, he just wanted to live his life and be left alone - and society didn't like that. Suddenly, he murders his wife, frames his brother, turns himself into a manipulative aggressive narcissistic prick, and everyone accepts him. He becomes successful, scores a beautiful wife, starts wearing expensive clothes. He has everything one wishes for, and all he had to do was sacrifice his humanity. Suddenly, he sees Lorne. Lester wants him to see how badass he has become, showing his achievements and all. Lorne doesn't give a shit and that hurts Lester. How can this guy, who is everything I wanted to be, not acknowledge how great I am? So, in the end, the same kind of thinking that made Lester successful amongst other pricks, was his undoing. Show does a great job at examining how society pressures us into becoming worse versions of ourselves.
But if Lester did walk away Malvo would've felt a little annoyed at Lester's progress, and sent the tape of his murder confession to the police for his own amusement. But then again, if Malvo got killed, the suitcase of tapes would've been obtained by anyone and lead to the police anyway.
Damn dude, thank you! That was one truly amazing comment that really made me think. I TRULY love a lot of the pure gold I find in the comment section on YT. Come to think of it, the comment section on YT is one of the few places on da Interwebz that still delivers some of what we were once promised would be the greatest thing about the web way back in its infancy: The web was supposed to be an easily accessed and instant connection to both new people and to new and great ideas from all around the world for the benefit of all mankind by bringing us a better future. Halleluja! In many ways those promises became real - but with a Lorne Malvo twist. 😏 If you ask me - which you surely did not do but I’ll tell you what I think anyways - a hell of a lot of people seem to use the web to be able to act like assholes and bullies towards other people while they hide behind their keyboards in complete safety. Not to mention, many of those ”new and great ideas” we were promised turned out to be nether new nor great at all, but quite the opposite. Heck, a good example of this is that both fascist and communist ideology seems to have made one hell of a weird comeback lately. How is that even possible in this day of age? It sure as hell shouldn’t be, bot when we all know all too well exactly how destructive and tragic these two political systems turn out if ever made into reality, but still, here we are again! To make things even worse, many of the worlds most powerful and dangerous assholes have learned all too well that they can use the web as a very effective tool to reach way, way, way more people then ever before with their horrible messeges and ideas - which in so many ways is the exact opposite of ”for the benefit of mankind”. Hmm. I just realized I answered my own question on how it’s even possible that ideologies of total madness is making a come back. Sigh. Up until very recently the people of Earth ware just like the old Lester Nygaard. And just like Lorne Malvo corrupted Lester Nygaard and put him on a path of self destruction so did the internet to us all. The Internet is Lorne Malvo. Lorne Malvo is the Internet. Hehe. Anyways, that is why I LOVE finding stuff like this in the comment section on YT so much. To me that means that there’s still some traces of the old Lester Nygaard left in people all around the world, and as long as those traces linger on, there’s still some hope left for all mankind! Yay! 😁
His new personality formed after the traumatic events of the year before. He basically transforms into a totally different person over the course of the season, culminating in his new life, new wife, being awarded for it with a prize, and getting a little drunk. He started believing his own shit, so much hubris he thought he could take on Malvo.
He did take Malvo. Malvo came after him and Lester fended him off, left Malvo vulnerable and it ended him. Lester outlasted his enemy. He just couldn't outrun his own sins.
Because he became the opposite of his episode 1 self. Now, instead of being a wuss to a ridicilous amount, he's become a narcissist. He wants everything, won't take a no, and thinks the whole world revolves around him. There's no middle ground. In Lesters mind, he's a fucking king.
I knew from episode 1 that Malvo was like Lucifer! He played a better Lucifer than the series Lucifer. The way he convinces people to do evil acts was always messed up.
100000 dollar bounty doesn't seem like that much when you consider he could probably make double that in a year working as a dentist, which he is somehow magically able to do.
Somehow I don't think Malvo's at all motivated by money. He could likely make even more than that dentist's salary, but instead he is what he is and knows it. He enjoys (if that's the right word for it) the life he leads, affluent, sanitised, normal living would just grind on him.
one of my favorite scenes in a movie/tv show ever. Him asking Lester if it's what he really wants is him giving him the option whether or not to live with the fact he could have prevented their deaths. A+ acting from Billy
There are two keys to this scene and they both involve Lester. The first is when he slightly tilts the trophy and says, "I've come too far." That's hubris and ego because earlier he was presented that for being the top in the field, and he was there with his wife, who was his crush earlier in the series. He's feeling cocky. Then he sees Malvo and is barely acknowledged... he's right back to where he was in the first episodes and because of that he's angry enough for the confrontation in the elevator. Once he's in the elevator, Malvo asks him if this is what he truly wants. He asks him twice, but after the second time he asks, you can see Lester's eyes shoot to the right very quickly. He remembers he has an audience and is now very aware of them and his pride won't allow him to back down in front of them-- in his mind, he has to save face, so he says yes. Tragedy ensues.
Yes, thank you for telling us the obvious. We all just watched it. It absolutely kills me when people do this, pointing out things that are so obvious to the rest of us that we would never consider pointing them out. Like here you see Maverick is sad because Goose died, because he was his friend, and he believes its his fault. YES! Thank you Captain Obvious, I needed that.
@mith2946 , you need something, that's for sure. You sound like you're shaking with anger as you type this. It's a comment I made two years ago, apparently. It has 28 likes. It appears a few people appreciated my thoughts(I'd say around 28, because I like to point out the obvious-- it's how I got promoted from Lieutenant Lack of Insight to Captain Obvious). If you didn't, so be it. However, you did say thank you, so you're welcome.
one of my favourite series ever together with Six Feet Under, Twin Peaks and The Leftovers. Billy Bob Thornton was terrific here!!!! Love every character in it! :)
Notice how he shoots the guy first, and he actually looks to make sure he gets him. Once he’s dead, he knows the woman will be too traumatized to react, so he doesn’t even bother looking at them, keeping his eyes on Lester as a way to keep him in check.
This is such a perfect scene. Incredible acting, and don't get me startet on that awesome line: "Lester, is this what you want?". It is, in fact, so mesmerising to watch those two that I only just now, after the third time of having watched this, noticed that they went cheap on the gun. There is no blowback and there are no shell casings being ejected. A minor mistake, but still... Maybe it wasn't possible because of the close space.
Malvo told the tech guy who sells illegal stuff he has no friends. In fact, he's a psychopath who enjoys screwing, manipulating, playing people. And he keeps a whole suitcase of tapes recording those moments. So obviously he sees Lester as one of his pet toys
Nah, Lester was right to be suspicious and not have his back turned to Malvo for even a second. He just witnessed a triple homicide, so of course Malvo was gonna finish him off just as quickly to cover his own tracks.
He purposely wait a lil bit for his "girlfriend" to absorb what happened instead of instantly headshoting her. Just to enjoy the fear. One of the greatest characters ever. If the devil got incarnated this man would be him.
the fact that he faked his whole relationship and love with his woman has to be the craziest achievement. she did not think anything was wrong with him for half a year lol
Billy Bob Thornton really was sensational as Malvo. I don’t know what’s more impressive, the way he switched off the facade of humanity or his priceless comedic timing when laughing off how he just executed his friends and fiancé.
Season 1 of this show is so fucking good. I came across it by accident and I have no idea how I missed this show until now, thought I had watched all the good ones. When I finished season 1 I got so dissapointed because I thought it would be 3 seasons of Malvo and Lester, I thought they would become friends ever since that discussion in the hospital.
Because he lived a life of being a submissive nothing to someone who accomplished something and he had an ego issue when Malvo wouldn’t give him the time of day.
Knowing Malvo he'd have probably killed Lester after moving the bodies (which he didn't do himself if I remember) but he's just so damn charismatic and charming I really want to believe he'd have just walked away after they cleaned up. He's like a field a of flowers covered in land mines.
That Malvo actually started a dental practice just as part of his cover for a hit job... is pretty hilarious. And it also makes no sense (you don't just decide to "become" a dentist overnight or in a matter of a few weeks/months lol) but the show' s so good that you don't even really care about this massive plot hole lol
It could be that he already had prior training as a dentist and uses it as a convenient cover for his work whenever he needs to be covert. It's definitely implied that he actually knows dentistry.
Malvo askes "Is this what you want?" as in, is this what you want to be completely free of morals (as he's maybe halfway there already, but not near what most people are comfortable with). Lester, with visible apprehension (feeding off his newfound alpha-male status) says yes eventually, but in between Malvo communicates the gravity of the choice (even seeming a bit disappointed in Lester and how greedy he turned out to be, just like the rest of them) before coldly pulling the trigger and murdering innocent people to show Lester that that is indeed what naked, unbridled, limitless, freedom of action is. It's freedom from morals, attachments, law...but adrift. As Malvo is. An awful price to pay for being the rudderless creature he is. And Lester finally gets it.
I come back to this scene a lot because it's one of my favorite in TV history. Malvo is an agent of chaos and the only reason he doesn't try to kill Lester earlier is because he sees that they have something in common: they're both psychos.
Psychos do not comprehend emotions. They are caged by their impulses. These are sociopath. They like to be in control and like the best lives as a human being.
Now this is what Fargo's really about. Loved the movie, and watched the TV series, which was lacking this type of suspense in Season 3, imho. BBT demonstrated what a true psychopath Lorne Malvo really was. One of the top villains ever in TV, again imo.
Varga destroyed his prey psychologically and methodically, while Malvo didn't 'play games' and got his message across in a grisly, quickly manner. As mentioned, I thought Season 3 lacked the intensity and 'bite' that made Season 1 great. It was good, but didn't have me on the edge of my seat like Season 1 did.
The fuck you mean? Creepy as shit comment. Do you mean prime of youth (which would apply to anybody, regardless of sex)? are you referring to her being of child bearing age? Or is it just prime of her good looks and the potential amount of sexual pleasure men could get out of her?- pretty weird and objectifying comment.
My biggest question about Malvo was why he seems to like Lester. He goes out of his way to help Lester, keeps Lester from being arrested, acts chummy with him, doesn't consider Lester as a potential target even though Lester is a witness to his crimes, and basically treats him as a friend up until the point Lester does this and runs. Why does he like Lester so much?
My theory is as follows. "Good things happen to bad people". Lorne, with his almost superhuman intuition and biblical references is Lucifer. He nurtures all evil. Lester, who has been bullied and belittled all his life, holds years of pent up rage inside of him. The man is a doormat but he's also self-aware and knows he deserves vengeance. Lorne sees Lester's potential and how easily manipulated he is. He knows how much shit Lester can stir up and he simply aims to nurture and grow the bad seed inside of Lester. That's why he doesn't kill him, so that he can use Lester as his evil puppet.
Rustam Orudzhev yeah and as dentist he should’ve earned twice of that bounty. This maniac does it not just for money but for some absurd ideas popping in his mind.
can guns really be that frikkin silent in real life? can u legally own a gun like that? wouldn't even wake up the kids if some sukka punk broke into your home and you had to defend yourself. I know nothing about guns other than video games. such a cool scene.
They cannot. In real life, silencers don't mask the sound as much as they mask where the sound came from. That's why in real life they are more commonly used on sniper rifles than on handguns
For all the other Lorne Malvo fanboys out there, search and read an article called 'Literally the Devil: Why Lorne Malvo was the real winner in Fargo's finale", it really puts some things into perspective :)
Yes because he made weasels Lester and Gus into killers, and before Gus kills him, Malvo is sitting crippled unarmed to give him one last win.
+Kobayashi

When I finished season 1 I got so dissapointed because I thought it would be 3 seasons of Malvo and Lester, I thought they would become friends ever since that discussion in the hospital.
Me too but its based on true story so that can't happened
@@mohamedn7587 its not based on a true story, that's just a homage to the film
What is Lester's problem? Why is he so insistent?
Steam Punk he think he have balls...
PLVS VLTRA in a way he does.
Because he lived a life of being a submissive nothing to someone who accomplished something and he had an ego issue when Malvo wouldn’t give him the time of day.
This scene alone beats Season 2 and 3 together
Season 2 is a masterpiece
@@soldiermeyer2790 until aliens
@@jimmy_the_squid9456 I totally agree with you, that was dumb.
Stephen Root is very compelling in this scene. I doubt I would come back to it so often if not for his delivery.
This scene is brilliant!!
I fucking loved this scene
Lester and Lorne only meet 5 scenes and still they are a Legendary couple
Knowing Malvo he'd have probably killed Lester after moving the bodies (which he didn't do himself if I remember) but he's just so damn charismatic and charming I really want to believe he'd have just walked away after they cleaned up. He's like a field a of flowers covered in land mines.
Probably my favorite scene in television
That Malvo actually started a dental practice just as part of his cover for a hit job... is pretty hilarious. And it also makes no sense (you don't just decide to "become" a dentist overnight or in a matter of a few weeks/months lol) but the show' s so good that you don't even really care about this massive plot hole lol
It’s not a plot hole, crackhead. You think he went to school for six years first?! Wtf. 😂
It could be that he already had prior training as a dentist and uses it as a convenient cover for his work whenever he needs to be covert. It's definitely implied that he actually knows dentistry.
Is it me or does he really look like Timothy Olyphant in Justified when he says "That's on you" ?
And now he's playing Lorne Malvo's Ole Mormon Pappi in Season 4!

Bro I can actually see his eyes and whole demeanor change that's terrifying
before Malvo shoots his "girlfriend" he winks at Lester. Cold dude
Billy Bob Thorton might as will be in the next John Wick
Lorne is just so calm. He shoots three people and then tells Lester " This is on You".
this show was next level
Facts
fargo is just better than true detective
+MC Roy word!
coincidentally yes I said the same thing.
+MC Roy For sure
I was disappointed in both of their endings.
different strokes for different folks i guess, i think there equal
I'd be like, shit man, just wanted to say thanks... Awe gees, ja, let's lift the day guy into the dumpster
The best season of one of the greatest TV shows.
I watched Season 1 earlier and it was a masterpiece.
i started waching this because of alvo he is awsome
Malvo. It's Lorne Malvo.
Hahaha "Aces!"
“That’s on you”…the new “I told you so”
Lester got away scot free, was successful, and had a wife. He just didn't know when to let go
fuckin Steven root is so subtly great
I come back to this scene a lot because it's one of my favorite in TV history. Malvo is an agent of chaos and the only reason he doesn't try to kill Lester earlier is because he sees that they have something in common: they're both psychos.
Lester isnt a Psycho
Psychos do not comprehend emotions. They are caged by their impulses.
These are sociopath. They like to be in control and like the best lives as a human being.
That face he makes when looking out from the elevator 🤣🤣
Fargo is the best TV SHOW EVER
damn I thought the blond would have been a main character.
hassan palomo it's a good thing she wasn't the same with the asian wife
hassan palomo ikr
Now this is what Fargo's really about. Loved the movie, and watched the TV series, which was lacking this type of suspense in Season 3, imho. BBT demonstrated what a true psychopath Lorne Malvo really was. One of the top villains ever in TV, again imo.
but VM Varga was incredible in season 3
on par with Malvo I thought
Varga destroyed his prey psychologically and methodically, while Malvo didn't 'play games' and got his message across in a grisly, quickly manner. As mentioned, I thought Season 3 lacked the intensity and 'bite' that made Season 1 great. It was good, but didn't have me on the edge of my seat like Season 1 did.
Best Fargo season!!
that elevator's got some seriously good timing huh
Theres a special place in hell for someone killing a girl like that in her prime
@@mustafam956 all of it, nice summary
So good!
Billy Bob is so great in this series.
who saw this only for the blonde , i do
not me but damn, she´s so hot
Ew.
Who's the blonde in the middle?
"Lester, is THIS what you want? Yes or no?"
He really offed a 10 like it was nothing...
Why everyone misses the point that he posed as a dentist for 6 months just to do the job
Rustam Orudzhev yeah and as dentist he should’ve earned twice of that bounty. This maniac does it not just for money but for some absurd ideas popping in his mind.
This is depraved.
Those last 2 episodes of season 1 of Fargo were fucking amazing.
When someone doesn't say hi and they pretend they don't know you
Apparently this entire scene was improvised
can guns really be that frikkin silent in real life? can u legally own a gun like that? wouldn't even wake up the kids if some sukka punk broke into your home and you had to defend yourself. I know nothing about guns other than video games. such a cool scene.
They cannot. In real life, silencers don't mask the sound as much as they mask where the sound came from. That's why in real life they are more commonly used on sniper rifles than on handguns
Extraordinary acting by Billy Bob Thornton, truly.
best show ever
