Than you Pete!! ALL YOUR VIDEOS ARE SO HELPFUL!! As a Distrokid user this is uncanny. I'm in this situation right now and had NO idea how to do it properly. In fact so many times I spend time just undoing things I did wrong in the first place out of ignorance. And it completely overcomes the fear-to-upload especially for Home studio muso's or you don't pick up a fault in the recording (your case) or your skills at mixing/mastering improve over time but you can just get it out there and then re-upload it if any issues. Thank you!!!
Just know if you're re mixing or remastering you have to keep the same release date. If you're recording new vocals it has to be considered as new release.
I just wanna hop in here and share my experience: I had two songs I wanted to either redo or delete from my page. For both of them, they were a completely new mix & master. sounded quite different. One of them was the same length and the other one I cut down by quite a bit. Both were put back in their respective release places, but only one of them kept their streams. I'm not unhappy about it because they're old and I'm happy they get to stay on my page with the new mix & masters. Juts a heads up that you won't get completely screwed, but you might lose your streams if you change it too much.
@@ohwell. tnx. shit. this i was worried about. my tunes are on the same album, but i uploaded the wrong versions of the same songs. i guess i have to wait until the money comes in and then re-upload so i at least get paid for the current streams...
Wow man thank you this video gave me so much relief. I was super worried about it not working once I try to re upload. Fingers crossed, waiting on 2nd master (didn’t like the 1st)
@@grupofuerzam Yes! it works fine just take the original down completely. Setup the new release and it works as normal. There is a few minor issues I have noticed though. Some stores don't get the information as swift as others. So what can happen is you will still see the old track on other platforms. For example; I released a track that I changed the name and master on. All went well but the track still shows the old name on apple music. It was a learning experience. Now you know that when you're sending a track in, MAKE SURE everything is exactly how you want it. Triple check all dates, listen to master all the way through, and confirm album art is actual and not a snapshot or something on your computer. Much love
@@edwardcrowther4651 so I’m not sure about that. I think with the same ISRC you should be good on playlists. Stream count will probably be lost. This was a long time ago and can’t remember the details… good luck though
Very very very helpful! I find that it's only when I finished uploading the masters that I was not perfectly satisfied with how it sounded. Yes, Do make sure you are satisfied with it because you'll remember that little imperfect thing when you're hearing it a second, third, or fourth time. We are not perfect, and working as an indie is very hard when you're recording, mixing, and mastering your own stuff. Thank you. You don't know how helpful this is. Thank you. I realize my choruses, are too quiet too. I mixed the final master of my track on headphones to apply some EQ fix but forgot to check it on a studio monitor. The choruses sounded dull and blurred out. Thank you again.
Hi Pete, I uploaded my piano covers to Distrokid, then discovered (after they went live in the stores) that the audio files were too quiet. If I remove them, then re-upload louder audio files, what happens to the $12 that I originally paid for the cover song licenses? Do I get a refund? I've read every single FAQ, and tried asking Diostrokid, but I can't seem to get an answer to my question, nor reach anyone who is NOT a bot! I'll be so grateful if you could answer. Thank you so much!
Hey there. I haven’t personally done this I’m afraid but my default answer would be that you probably don’t get a refund? It would be a rare circumstance I would imagine and as you’ve paid for a year’s worth of royalty management up front, I don’t think there is a way that a pro-rated refund could be arranged? I would keep trying with DistroKid though until you reach a person who can give you a definitive answer.
@@PeteJohnsMusic thanks for your reply Pete. It's only been 2 weeks since the payment went through, and 1 week since the songs went live. Really hope i can get a refund (5x$12 is a significant expense), so I'll keep trying to contact Distrokid.
@@Pianistec yes, the cover license is usually non-refundable, but I messaged them on all of their social media sites, and to my pleasant surprise, someone very helpful actually replied! He authorized a refund because I was new and it was my first time. All the best with your endeavors!
@MurphCraft Academy thank you for your suggestion! I'll do that the next time I have a problem. I'm happy to report that my initial problem has been resolved satisfactorily.
Pete, you're the best man! I just subscribed! You're like the DISTROKID DISTRIBUTION THERAPIST! Ha! SO, I'm releasing a single soon that I had two separate masters made for: 48/24 High Res ADM/MFIT for Apple, and then the standard 44/16 for all other platforms. Distrokid recommended that when I set up distribution, I just send the 48/24 to ALL platforms and let the non-Apple platforms convert and downsample to their liking. So I did that, and it delivered to all stores...the release date was still one month away.....then a couple audio engineers I respect said that it's a risky move...it COULD end up sounding wonky on some platforms....so I JUST deleted it from all stores and plan to upload the two masters separately....the track hadn't actually been released yet, so can I just treat it as a new release? I don't need to use the same ISRC from before do I? The track/master I upload to Apple will actually be the exact same, and the only difference with the other master I upload to other platforms is it'll be 44/16 instead of 48/24. Will I have any issues with this? Please let me know, thanks so much Pete.
Hey there. So, yes - if it hasn’t actually hit the platforms then it should be fine to just release as a “new” release. Maybe reach out to DistroKid if you’re not 100%. studiolivetoday.com/distrokid
Hey Pete. I've done exactly as you said. Both of the tracks i've reuploaded are back and in their place, but the play counts have not transferred. Is this normal? The ISRC is the same and the metadata too. I don't understand why the play counts are gone, I really don't wanna lose them and I wanna transfer them to these remastered versions. Is it too late? I don't know what to do
I would reach out to DistroKid on this. A lot depends on the platform in question. There’s so guarantees that playlists and vanity stats will remain which is why it’s best to not change unless you need to. studiolivetoday.com/distrokid
Hey man, this video was a game changer for me. Specifically regarding the ISRC info. Wow. You have really made a difference in an artists whole year after just this video please know that! Thank you
Hi Peter, I have a problem with some songs. When finished loading the songs, distrokid indicates an error, distrokid says that my songs have been previously uploaded with a different song name or artist, despite having removed those songs from all platforms for two months. But this problem only occurs with collaborations from the disk where this problem occurs. Can you help me solve my problem? thank you.
apparently stores will not accept a rerelease of the same song with a diff artist name. super frustrating!!!i had to change my name and take down songs, couldnt release under a new name :/
The one workaround I've found is to upload old songs to Songtradr. Other stores (Distrokid, Tunecore, etc) seem to screen uploads more thoroughly for metadata, whereas Songtradr (as of this time) let's most things slip through. This unfortunately does mean you'll need to pay for another service on top of DK, but similar to DK songtradr is not too expensive. At the very least you can still have your song back on the market.
I covered this in my upgrade video here - ruclips.net/video/Ji7mL1XNK30/видео.html If you’re referring to changing your name, that’s more difficult and at the discretion of DistroKid. Http://studiolivetoday.com/distrokid
Thanks Pete! Super helpful. I had to re-upload a track after I listened to on Spotify next to other songs in a playlist. Mine was so soft! I remastered it with Logic's awesome mastering plugin to get it around -8 LUFS and re-uploaded it.
Pete!! You are super helpful and I wanted to start by saying thank you for all the uploads and I hope you are doing well 🙏🏻 Next, I had a question I could use your advice on as I’m stressing quite a bit. So, a few days ago I uploaded a song scheduled to release on the 31st. I realized that I wanted the vocals lower and took down the release yesterday (after it had been delivered to stores), but remember, it hadn’t gone live yet and wouldn’t have gone live for about a week. Now I’m ready to upload again and set it to an August 7th release, however, do I just upload as if it’s a brand new release or do I select that it’s been previously uploaded and plug in the codes? Mind you, it never went up yet so it’s not like I need stats linked or anything, I just want it to upload smoothly for the 7th. Please let me know what you think would be best, thank you so so much!!
I suggest you just treat this as a brand new release. If it didn’t hit stores it should be fine. I am not an expert on this however so it would be worthwhile to contact DistroKid for advice - studiolivetoday.com/distrokid
Hey man, this has helped me so much. I released an EP yesterday and once I listened to it on Spotify, I realized I uploaded the wrong masters files! I messed up quite big.. I didn't wait for the stores to delete the EP completely though, I just went straight into deleting it from Distrokid, and uploading following your tutorial right away...hoping I didn't mess up again by not waiting for the EP to be completely deleted from all stores...the anxiety I guess..! anyway, thank you this was great!
Hey Pete, what were we supposed to do with the UPC number? I watched the previous video and noted the UPC and ISRC. Just wondering what to do with the UPC in the re upload.
Hey Pete! I have released EP through Distorkid with 4 songs. Unfortunately, I decided that I would like to delete the 1 song from that EP. Distorkid support team wrote me, that it isn't possible, and I can only delete the whole EP. I would like to ask you, if I can delete the whole EP - and that re-released it with only 3 songs that I want. If I will keep the same ISRC for each of that 3 songs which I want to keep, stats and people's playlist will stay? And should I re-upload it first and that delete the original EP, or delete it first and then re-upload? Thank you so much!
Hi there. This should work, but stores are cracking down on re-releasing the exact same audio files so you may have issues. It is definitely easier to leave things as they are once released. My DistroKid FAQ has a little more info. studiolivetoday.com/distrokid
* UPDATE * I made a false assumption that it is required to add ISRC codes when re-uploading a file. However, this isn't considered a part of the required metadata. Which means one can follow this tutorial and simply skip the ISRC bit. Apologies for the confusion! Original Message: **WARNING** - Do not follow this tutorial unless you've upgraded your Distrokid account - a regular account does not allow adding ISRC. I am almost certain that Pete didn't realize that when he made the video (which is super helpful, thanks Pete) and it might be an oversight on Distrokid's part too - I'll contact them about it and will leave an update here when I hear back. In depth: Just followed part one (write down all meta data including ISRC, delete album, wait for it to disappear). While going through part two have found that the ISRC code cannot be changed - this is the field that is hidden behind Pete's webcam feed. Instead a message displays: "Want to specify your own ISRC code? Consider upgrading." Unless I'm a noob and missed something obvious, neither Distrokid nor the video make clear you need a MUSICIAN PLUS account to actually be able to do any of this.
Thanks for the info. Yes, I re-stated this in a more recent video about the difference between Musician and Musician Plus. I’m going to review all my DistroKid videos in early 2021 and make sure everything is accurate. As you mentioned, all is still relevant except the ISRC, which means it may not link up the old and new tracks. Appreciate it.
@@PeteJohnsMusic that is great and would helps others, thanks! I’ve asked Distrokid to ads a warning too - they are great people, especially their help desk - hopefully that can prevent others from making my mistake too. And thanks again for the brilliant video’s. Liked and subscribed. Can you say if uploading without the same ISRC is valid and wouldn’t get a rejection? In that case I’ll reword the warning to be less dramatic sounding.
Distrokid support has gotten back and informed that unchanged ISRC codes are not necessary when re-uploading the file. The metadata that is required to be the exact same is the title and artist name. Apologies for raising an alarm over basically nothing :)
How do I get around this error : (Apple Music has blocked your upload because it has been previously released) but I’ve recently uploaded about 4 songs that were on my old artist account with no problem but now that I try to do my most recent single and it keeps giving me this Apple error
I already wrote a comment on this video before under my other youtube account on Esperanza Vibes, but again, thank you and thank you tons for this. Very helpful. Quite useful for when your master doesn't have that quite perfect touch to it.
The message I got “-Stores do not allow music to be re-uploaded with conflicting metadata, even if a previous version was uploaded and then deleted to be re-uploaded with changes. In order for us to be able to re-deliver this content to stores for you, you'll need to re-upload the release with the original metadata.
Hey there. Have you tried to change anything on the original release apart form the audio? As it states, stores won’t allow this as people have tried releasing the same song several times in the last. studiolivetoday.com/distrokid
Hi there! I want to change my artist name on DistroKid, but I understand that I would have to create a new artist profile and upload my music there from now on. Is there a way to do this without purchasing the Musician Plus package and without completely deleting my DistroKid account? I only have access to my 1 artist name and I do not see an option to delete that name and create another name.
Hey there. You would need to remove all songs under your original name and then ask DistroKid to change the name which will be at their discretion. All the info o have about DistroKid is at studiolivetoday.com/distrokid
man I can't even thank you enough right now lol, I had released something on my birthday, today the 17th of August, and like an hour before it hit 12am I was listening to my release and realized something I didn't like was in the track and needed to change it, still wanted the release date as my birth date I made the change quickly and re uploaded it, but I guess distrokids time zone is different so it showed as uploaded August 18, I'm gonna try what you explained in this video and see if it works, I hope it does! 🙏🙏
I have a good question. Pete, What If I release my song as a featured artist from my distrokid account and the artist/band name would be another artist. Will the music still go to both of our streaming locations? Thank you in advance!!!
Hey Pete, I just had a mental breakdown and I removed my album from all stores. I thought it sounded bad but after hearing it many times I'm actually satisfied with the way it is. Do I have to wait in order to upload my album again? I mean, when it's removed from stores do I have to wait to re upload it? and is there any problem with doing this? I'm a huge fan of your videos of garageband and I have been seeing you since a lot of time. I'd really appreciate your advice please :c
Thanks for the kind words. Stores have indeed cracked down on the exact audio being re-released but if you wait a few days you can generally release again with slightly different audio (in order to fix tracks as I show in the video). You might need to get in touch with DistroKid directly if you’re having issues. studiolivetoday.com/distrokid
Hey so I have a track coming out tomorrow and I noticed there's a minor error (may be unnoticable to casual listeners) on it and I was wondering when is the right time for me to hit remove from all stores? I understand how it works with maintaining the ISRC and the Metadata of the track. I fear that if I remove it now will it affect the playlist placements in the next few days? Should I wait to get these playlists placements for like a week and make the change after or will it not matter? If I remove the track one day prior to release date would it still be released on streaming platforms?
Whatever works best for you and your song and what you want out there. I wouldn’t worry too much about playlists. It’s more important that you are happy with your song so do what works for youz
Hey Pete, thanks for giving all the information. I have some stressy days here. I uploaded a track later on I wanted to change the master audio when it was already in stores, but not live. So I followed the steps you mentioned in the video, just one thing is a bit different. My track was in stores, but not live. So when re-uploaded I put "was this previously released?" to yes, as you said, but then I was not able to put another meta data (pre-order), so I had to change "was it previously released?" to "no" to get it through. Therefore I have linked the iscr. Can this cause problems? Also I am not sure if the album was down frome apple, just saw Spotify took it off (I've waited 4 days before reupload.) Can an Album get rejected from Spotify if the previous version is still in catalogue of Apple music for example? I sweared to my self never will go through this again. 😂 So much stress.
I wouldn’t stress too much about this. If you can avoid making any changes that’s Best Buy as long as you completely remove it then wait a few days before submitting again you’ll generally be fine. My DistroKid FAQ is here - studiolivetoday.com/distrokid
You an still say this was previously release as long as the lyrics wasn't change and the vocals are the same. If you change the song then yes you have to make it as new.
hi! thanks for posting this. we deleted an album and re-uploaded same album with an updated title for the first song, it was originally submitted incorrectly. we're having issues with iTunes and Apple Music because they won't let you update song titles, they need to match exactly. the other streaming services have accepted the new title without issues so we went ahead and submitted to all stores except for iTunes and Apple Music. i thought i could just go back and reupload to apple and itunes with old spelling but they keep rejecting song title and referring to new spelling. when i upload with new spelling they refer to original spelling. it's a mess. i'm so frustrated i don't know what to do! do you have any ideas?
Yes, this is an issue that many folks are having and why I tend to suggest avoiding editing or changing a release unless you really need to. The reason for this is that the stores are cracking down on artists who have been releasing multiple times to try to get more exposure. I would reach out to DistroKid for advice. studiolivetoday.com/distrokid
yes , this is an same issue with me! i just go back and reupload to apple and itunes with old title but they keep rejecting and referring to new spelling. when i upload with new spelling they refer to original spelling. did you solve this in the end?
Hey Sir, I have a problem... I can't find the space to add my ISRC although I chose "Previously released". It simply doesn't show up in the list. But I already have the song on spotify!
Hey Pete! Thank you for the informative videos they really helped a lot. I really appreciate you taking the time to help artists out ^_^ I just have a two question if you don't mind helping me out: 1) So if I released a single and then released the EP containing the same single (adding the ISRC code) do the play counts merge? Therefore I can just delete the "single release" with no real disadvantage? just to keep the Spotify page neater and not have like doubles ? 2) Can you give a single release a custom album title rather than the default song name as the album name? Again thank you so much keep up your amazing work =)
Hey there. Everything I know about DistroKid is on my FAQ and related video / studiolivetoday.com/distrokid I always suggest leaving to singles up. Sometimes your songs will link but not always. A single can only have the title of the song. If your release has 2 or more tracks it can have a custom name.
this is amazingly useful. thank you. i released an EP last week and I realised one of my choruses is too quiet so I will be following these steps soon - thank you!
Distrokid illegally locked my song so that I could not distribute my song on any other platform. They also told me it was already in stores but if it is I didn't put it in the stores. When I go to look I don't see it. They basically still and took ownership of my song and now I am going to expose them and file a lawsuit against them for copyright infringement.
So im having a problem, I have singles released before the album so when I go make the track list for the album and upload the album it wont work, keeps telling me its duplicated audio. Do i have to delete my singles?
That’s a little strange? You should be able to include previously released singles in an album? I’ve definitely done this before? Might need to get in touch with DistroKid- studiolivetoday.com/distrokid
We're having the SAME issue! Been back and forth with their zendesk costumer service for 2 weeks! Still no resolution and we're about to miss our opportunity to pitch to Spotify.
Hi Pete thanks for this helpful video. I have a question: so i'll remove my "wrong" track first; can i upload the "right" version (same isrc, same things but new audio) in the same day or i must wait that the track was completely removed from the stores before the new upload?
So… my recommendation is to do this a few days later. The platforms can reject it if it hasn’t completely been removed first. studiolivetoday.com/distrokid
I am in desperate need of help.I uploaded a song march of 2019, I am now ready to release a full project with this as the main single since I didn't really promote it before..every other song uploads fine but when it gets to this particular one it says that the song is being rejected because the metadata is different, however it's the same exact audio file, I have the same exact artist name and everything.. I've contacted distrokid but they keep telling me it's not their fault and they can't do anything about it, so what I'm understanding is that I will never under any circumstance be able to release this song again even though I've erased it from stores and Andre uploading it with the exact same information. It's extremely disheartening and I am desperate for help
Hey there. So this is the exact same audio file and metadata? This is probably the reason. Stores have cracked down on this because what artists were doing was launching a single, then if it didn’t get a lot of attention, pulling it down and re-releasing the same song. What I have done and might suggest is including the song on an EP or album. I did this with released songs in the past, as you can include singles in an album release.
@@PeteJohnsMusic everything exactly the same. Same original audio file, same artist name and everything. I just had released it as a single to say back in Jan of 2019 just to say i had a song available for purchase, and now that I'm putting out an album it won't let me release it bc it says that one song is already available by Noah Motion, but that's me. I've taken the original upload down and I'm hoping in a few days when it's completely purged from stores that it'll work. DK has been absolutely zero help and it is very frustrating bc they say it's not their fault.
@@rico-pi5ro they keep sending the same reply over and over.they told me that they've got the song uploaded two times in their system one with just my name on it as the artist and once with my name and my featured artist on the song with me... So basically, it doesn't matter how I word it I'm never going to be able to have the song in stores even though I own full rights to all of it

Hi Pete, thank you so much for this video! I've a question. I'm going to re-release one of my songs that I deleted from the stores some day ago. I've changed the mixing and the mastering. Some little changes in the arrangement and in the vocal part. The duration of the song is the same. Should I select "Previous released"? When a pre-released song (deleted and than re released) should be considered as a new song? Thank you very much!

@@PeteJohnsMusic is the word "one" in your reply intentional, im not understanding 100% could you pls restate that sentence? And was I correct on keeping the upc & ISRC
Hi Pete, thanks for your video. Sorry, my English is not perfect. If I right understand, can I re-upload a song only after it completely removed from the stores the first one, yes? So it’s 2-3 weeks after remove?
I would recommend waiting to ensure it is removed from the main platforms and they don’t flag you for a duplicate release. studiolivetoday.com/distrokid
Can I still upload music after getting editorial discretion email? If so, how can I upload? Do I need to create another account in Distrokid? Help me please. Thank You!
What if the song hasn’t been released yet but the stores have it? If I remove from stores can I resubmit a fixed mix the same day or next day with the same ISRC?
Does it matter if the song is not a single, but rather a song on an entire album? I just released a 15-song album and I would like to fix one song. Will I be able to apply the merged in this video, or do I need to re-upload the entire album?
Hi! I have a very pressing question since my release is going live in 2 days. I want to push out my release by 2 weeks, and replace the audio file which is slightly improved, however, I do NOT want to lose all my presaves. Will going through the process of removing & reuploading with the same ISRC remove all my presaves? Or will they remain? Thanks!
Can you please tell me how many days I should have to wait to re-upload the song or can I just reupload it on the same day/before its completely removed from the stores?
Can i delete a song to fix it and then re-release it but with the new date like it has never been released because it was just a few days out there and i deleted it and it had just a few views
Hello Pete! I have a question. What if I already have released my music to a different Free Record Label (amuse), is it still okay to upload my released track in Distrokid?
Hey there. You will need to remove from stores via Amuse first. Stores won’t allow you to release the same tracks through two different distributors. If you are releasing new songs, then this would be fine.
Hi, peter. So, I've got a Musician Plus plan with two Artist Slots. 1 year back, I've released some songs with my old Artist name . But for some reasons, I've changed my Artist name/alias to " Xousick ". Now I want to remove certain songs from all the stores with the previous Artist name. And re-release them with the new artist name. Is this possible? Can you please assist me with this matter? That would be a great help.
Hey there. So this is technically possible by removing all songs or releases under the other name, the re-uploading as the new one. The challenge is that many stores are now blocking any re-release of the same exact song, either under the same name or a different name, to prevent artists from re-releasing the same songs multiple times. So it’s all a a little up in the air right now I’m afraid.
@@PeteJohnsMusic Thanks for the reply. Btw, I've got one more question. Can I make subtle changes to those songs, like a remix or something similar. Then re-release those with a new name. Like, technically I'm releasing a remix version out of that original. Is this thing possible? Actually I'm kinda desperate to release those songs for my new fans. I don't wanna abandoned those tracks at any cost.
Hi there, do you have to have a "Musician plan" account in distrokid in order to be able to enter the ISRC code of a previous released song? I didn't have that option when I tried to reupload my songs after deleting them. It is written on distrokid site, that the ordinary account doesn't have customisable ISRC option, but I wasn't sure if that is the case.
hello, so i have musician plus and this may not be relevant to the same problem in the video but I was wondering how you switch between artists. do you just change the artist name in the upload or is their a place to switch between which artist page the music goes to?
Hi Pete I was wondering if you could please help, I'm very anxious as I acted before watching your video - I deleted a track that has not come out yet because of an error I noticed on the master. Once I deleted it and immediately uploaded the new song without any Isic code or anything like that.
It should be fine. If it didn’t actually hit stores it won’t matter. Hopefully you don’t get an error advising the song has been released before. Here’s my DistroKid FAQ if you have any other issues.

Do you think i'm still in time to remove the old master and upload the new one and still have my release go live on the 24th? Do I have to remove and wait as you suggest? Or should it be fine using same UPC and ISRC codes? Cause I want to remove it and upload the new master but i'm worried i am trying to do this too last minute. Thanks so much, Grace

Hi Pete - Much thanks for all your insight! I uploaded a new collab single to the stores - it's not yet released - but I noticed after submitting that it has missing metadata (a primary artist was not listed). If I cancel the submission and upload the same audio with the updated metadata, will this be rejected as a duplicate upload? (Again, the song has not gone live yet, but is already uploaded on the servers of the stores) Or is this issue better handled by editing the current release? If so, I'm just a bit weary that not all partners will make the update. Thanks!
Hey there. If it’s not gone live on stores yet you can usually remove the release and then re-release. I’d recommend waiting 2-3 days between removing and re-uploading however to make sure there isn’t confusion that might cause it a o be rejected.
Yeah, it’s not a great idea to change a song you e already released at all unless you really have to. Apple and Spotify have really cracked down on true same sine being released multiple times. My DistroKid FAQ is here. studiolivetoday.com/distrokid
So I did this today, all in one shot. I didn't necessarily wait until the first release that needed to be corrected left platforms I just aborted it then right after re uploaded wit the same ISRC's. What should I expect?
Hopefully it will work. But some platforms (usually Spotify) often reject for “duplicate songs” if the first one isn’t removed before the new one hits their systems. studiolivetoday.com/distrokid
I have a little question. If the song I am editing a part of a full album, if I put the IRC number in will it still be a part of the original album or will it have to be released on its own?
As part of an album? It’s not linked or related to the album at all. If you need to edit an album track you’ll need to remove the whole album and re-release the whole album. 💿 Http://studiolivetoday.com/distrokid
Hi , what if the release hasn't happened yet? My song is on pre save now, but will release next week. Do I still say 'YES' on the question 'Previously released?'
Hey there. Abandon the release of it hasn’t dropped yet and start from scratch. You don’t need to tag it as previously released if it hasn’t been released yet.
Thanks Pete for this very usefull video. My first album was a real mess, I didn’t know anything about producing and mixing the. I wish to completly remix it and re publish. Is it the same process to re publish and entire album than one song? Thanks.
Yup. Albums are considered a “release” and are treated the same as a single or EP. The whole thing needs to be removed and then reuploaded. studiolivetoday.com/distrokid
Hey so I have a question, I did this with My first ever release before it went fully live with Spotify. Do you think it will still end up live on there fine? cause it doesn't tell me that it'll take up to five days anymore, it just says the release date I selected.
Hi Pete, how are you? I have followed the steps and today my single has reappeared on spotify but I see that it is not in the playlists that it was before, nor does it keep the number of play that it had ... should I wait a few more days or was there an error? thanks!
Did you use the ISRC number to try to link it with the old release? Sorry; I’ve never personally be concerned with play counts or playlists so not sure. You might need to check in with DistroKid directly. studiolivetoday.com/distrokid
Hello! If I wanted to do this process but I have only one song in my discography, it would be deleted also my profile? Because I wanted to re release the only song I have uploaded until now. I wait for your answer. Thank you!
I don’t believe so? But haven’t tried this so don’t know for sure. It would simply recreate it when you’re-release so I wouldn’t worry too much about it. studiolivetoday.com/distrokid
@@PeteJohnsMusic okay thank you! If we talk about the link? I have put on my profile a link to the "old Version" of the song. If I use the ISRC code it will recognise the same link? Or the link to the new Version will be different?
Hello Pete! What if I’m doing this for an album and I don’t want the entire album deleted. Can i just reupload it with the same IRSC code for each song and then delete the older version once the new one is uploaded?
Thanks for replying to so many comments! I have one question. Have much editing can the new file have? In your example you basically just edited the beginning to remove a popping noise, but what if I wanted to reduce the volume of the track (In my DAW) so it would reduce clipping on spotify? Would the new WAV file be too different? Or would they accept that?
@@PeteJohnsMusic So, it's beneficial to alter the new file in some way? I thought the whole point of the ISRC code was allowing us to re-upload the same exact file?
Good day Pete, I have a song which is yet to be released, just 3 days to go. I have uplaoded the song about two weeks ago. I only found out now that I uploaded the wrong file, do i still have any chances to correct that and have it relased on the same date I choosed before, this coming Friday. Thank you.
Hey Pete , Apple Music keeps blocking the song I want to upload. I had upload it but forgot to add the feature. Will I be able to by pass this situation?
I would reach out to DistroKid and get advice on this. Apple and others have cracked down on the same song being released multiple times. studiolivetoday.com/distrokid
Hi Pete! Thank you for this very helpful video :) One question - when you reupload the song with the ISRC and original release date, will the re-released song actually still have the original release date listed on it? I ask because I want to re-release a song from 2023, but I don't want it to say 2024 on it. I'd appreciate your advise on this :)
@@PeteJohnsMusic thank you, Pete! Do you think it would let you post date a re-released EP with one song swapped out from the original EP? That’s my goal
Hey Pete, I did everything exactly as on this video and I still lost my plays. I will try contacting Spotify to see if they can help. Here's an update: It took Spotify a few days to link the songs. Thanks for showing me how to do it.
Awesome!! I’m so glad my expedience (and mistakes) are able to help you out. It’s such an amazing time o be making and sharing music.
This is perfect! I'm doing a re-mix and remaster of my first-ever song. There are going to be new vocals too. Very excited!
Yup. True. If you read the fine print DistroKid says that you “could” keep your streams. It all depends on the platform.
Thank you so much for this info, this really eased my nerves on releasing my remastered version.
did it keep the stream count on the tune that u changed the length of?
@@ulfgj the one with a different length lost its streams. the one with the same length kept its streams.
@@ohwell. tnx. shit. this i was worried about. my tunes are on the same album, but i uploaded the wrong versions of the same songs. i guess i have to wait until the money comes in and then re-upload so i at least get paid for the current streams...

Wow man thank you this video gave me so much relief. I was super worried about it not working once I try to re upload. Fingers crossed, waiting on 2nd master (didn’t like the 1st)
Good luck!
Hi @V4NT4 MUSIC, can I please know if things worked out for you when you re released
Thanks
Much love
Did your stream count or saves change at all? Did you lose playlist spots?
Very cool! Glad to hear it helped. More info here if you need it - studiolivetoday.com/distrokid
@@JoyceLeong I'd also like to reupload a cover, did everything work with your reuploads?
@@PeteJohnsMusic Thanks! Wish me luck!

Can you help me solve my problem? thank you.
Hey there. Not really an expert on this sorry. You might need to get in touch with DistroKid directly. studiolivetoday.com/distrokid

@@riolanzaofficial but I wrote the same name of artists and in the same way but still the song does not accept me
The one workaround I've found is to upload old songs to Songtradr.

Next, I had a question I could use your advice on as I’m stressing quite a bit.

Hello. So did you do it? How was it? I am in the same situation. I want to modify one golf from a 3-song album. It seems very complicated.
* UPDATE *
I made a false assumption that it is required to add ISRC codes when re-uploading a file.
However, this isn't considered a part of the required metadata. Which means one can follow this tutorial and simply skip the ISRC bit.
Apologies for the confusion!
Original Message:
**WARNING** - Do not follow this tutorial unless you've upgraded your Distrokid account - a regular account does not allow adding ISRC.
I am almost certain that Pete didn't realize that when he made the video (which is super helpful, thanks Pete) and it might be an oversight on Distrokid's part too - I'll contact them about it and will leave an update here when I hear back.
In depth:
Just followed part one (write down all meta data including ISRC, delete album, wait for it to disappear).
While going through part two have found that the ISRC code cannot be changed - this is the field that is hidden behind Pete's webcam feed.
Instead a message displays: "Want to specify your own ISRC code? Consider upgrading."
Unless I'm a noob and missed something obvious, neither Distrokid nor the video make clear you need a MUSICIAN PLUS account to actually be able to do any of this.

I've reached out to DK about this issue but I'm hoping to get your input on it as well

Hi Pete, once again excellent video. I am in aww, of your knowledge, and also your singer songwriting. You are an inspiration..
Thanks Gary. Really appreciate the kinds words mate.
😂 So much stress.

hi! thanks for posting this. we deleted an album and re-uploaded same album with an updated title for the first song, it was originally submitted incorrectly. we're having issues with iTunes and Apple Music because they won't let you update song titles, they need to match exactly. the other streaming services have accepted the new title without issues so we went ahead and submitted to all stores except for iTunes and Apple Music. i thought i could just go back and reupload to apple and itunes with old spelling but they keep rejecting song title and referring to new spelling. when i upload with new spelling they refer to original spelling. it's a mess. i'm so frustrated i don't know what to do! do you have any ideas?

2) Can you give a single release a custom album title rather than the default song name as the album name?
Again thank you so much keep up your amazing work =)
Hey there. Everything I know about DistroKid is on my FAQ and related video / studiolivetoday.com/distrokid

Noah Motion Music what was the outcome cause I’m having that very same issue as well ??

Hi Pete, thank you so much for this video! I've a question. I'm going to re-release one of my songs that I deleted from the stores some day ago. I've changed the mixing and the mastering. Some little changes in the arrangement and in the vocal part. The duration of the song is the same. Should I select "Previous released"? When a pre-released song (deleted and than re released) should be considered as a new song? Thank you very much!
Hey there. Yes if you’re using the same meta data and the title is the same I would go with “previously released.
If I remove from all stores and re-upload with same UPC & ISRC, will my streaming numbers & money income be gone or no
Stream numbers on platforms will potentially reset but that’s not a major issue. You’ll still one paid for any streams even on songs that have been removed.

@@PeteJohnsMusic Thank you.

The best option is always to leave it. But if you remove it, just make sure you wait before re-releasing. studiolivetoday.com/distrokid
Does it matter if the song is not a single, but rather a song on an entire album? I just released a 15-song album and I would like to fix one song. Will I be able to apply the merged in this video, or do I need to re-upload the entire album?

I seen you only used the Isrc code you didn’t use the upc do you not need that cuz there was no placement for it ?
Yeah. Turns out you only need the ISRC. Can’t hurt to have more I guess?

Ah. I wasn’t aware of this sorry. Perhaps that is the case?
@@PeteJohnsMusic Do you have a musician plan?
hello, so i have musician plus and this may not be relevant to the same problem in the video but I was wondering how you switch between artists. do you just change the artist name in the upload or is their a place to switch between which artist page the music goes to?
Hi there. It is just in the upload form. Simply change from your current artist name and type in the new one you want to use.
@@PeteJohnsMusic thanks! i was really scared that if i did that i would change my current artists name on platforms. thanks for clearing that up!
What do we do with the UPC ?
UPC is really only for DistroKid - think o got confused with ISRC at one point in this video.
If we use the same ISRC code it mean our views and listeners they still same as before we deleted right?
Sometimes! And maybe! And depends on the platform. The world of streaming platforms is a bit all over the place the place.
@@PeteJohnsMusic Yeah let's see i try to re-released my old song that i have been deleted, but i have used the old ISRC code, so i wish it still the same. Thank you.

Greetings, what happens if I re-release and add two main artists apart from me, can it cause problems with the ISRC?
Yeah, it’s not a great idea to change a song you e already released at all unless you really have to. Apple and Spotify have really cracked down on true same sine being released multiple times. My DistroKid FAQ is here. studiolivetoday.com/distrokid
So I got a song out but Apple Music took it down because I changed the name of the single so what I do now change the sample rate????????
I would check with DistroKid directly on this one. Changes are always risky - studiolivetoday.com/distrokid
@@PeteJohnsMusic so I got email that it's being sent to stores today and the processing went through. Spotify can still reject after this step?
I have a little question. If the song I am editing a part of a full album, if I put the IRC number in will it still be a part of the original album or will it have to be released on its own?
As part of an album? It’s not linked or related to the album at all. If you need to edit an album track you’ll need to remove the whole album and re-release the whole album. 💿

Thanks Pete for this very usefull video. My first album was a real mess, I didn’t know anything about producing and mixing the. I wish to completly remix it and re publish. Is it the same process to re publish and entire album than one song? Thanks.

Hey there. I don’t think so. Each release is treated as a separate “release”. studiolivetoday.com/distrokid
Please I wish to ask a question, what if my song was already on editorial playlist and I rerelease it, does it go back there or it will be removed ?
I would leave it alone if you care about the playlist. Will likely be removed if you change anything.
Yep. In fact it helps you if there are changes as the stores won’t accept it back if it’s exactly the same, or too close to the original m.
@@PeteJohnsMusic So, it's beneficial to alter the new file in some way? I thought the whole point of the ISRC code was allowing us to re-upload the same exact file?
