You're very welcome. As I mentioned, I started using them long before they sponsored any of my videos and have nearly 20 releases now, all of which went super smoothly.
Oh really? That's a little strange. I must admit I have never actually tried to Shazam my releases so perhaps mine are there too? I will need to check this out.
Oh wow! Wonder what I’m paying the extra dollar for then? 😄 Maybe it’s only iPhone Siri now? Or maybe Shazam are scraping Spotify or RUclips? Good to know though!
Hi Pete! So my band previously released a song with a different distributor but for our new single we are using distrokid. Will the new song be added to our existing artist page along with our first single? Or do we need to take down the first single and re upload that through DistroKid? Ideally we would like to leave everything alone with our first song and have the new single added to the artist page we already have if possible! Any help would be really appreciated :)
Hey Joe. Yes, when you submit your song as long as the band name may be exactly and is unique is should align with your existing releases on Spotify, Apple etc. If there are any issues, DistroKid has the “Fixer” tool that can help get any conflicts resolved. My DistroKid FAQ is here - studiolivetoday.com/distrokid

Hi Mr.Johns! I am a Malaysian . Is it true that when I upload my public domain christmas carols , I will be paid less ? What will I get paid like for each carol and for an album of 10 please? Rough estimation after 3 months? Is it better to release single tracks or an album of 10 carols at one go? Which company would you suggest I upload my album ? Distrokid or Spotify? What's the difference in them ? Can I release my album on Spotify instead of Distrokid or is it with Distrokid first and they would release it to other music stores? As my PD carols were sung by several singers ,is it still alright to upload my version? This is all for the moment. So as a foreigner , will I start earning every month or just after 3 months ? Thanks
Thank you for the descriptive video Pete! I have a question, do I have to register as a user on Spotify, Apple Music and other platform prior to releasing on Distrokid? Thank you!
Hey there. Nope, DistroKid will do all of this for you once you release your first song and it’s on the platforms. My DistroKid FAQ is here. Http://studiolivetoday.com/distrokid
Hi there. I don't believe so? It's called "RUclips Money" right at the bottom. I haven't released for a while but doing this tomorrow so will check it out then.
Hi Pete, just wondering, I uploaded a song but maybe a day later or so I aborted the single as was not the right track, can I proceed uploading the correct one or does the 3-5 days rule still apply if it never hit stores to begin with? Thanks, Tom
@@PeteJohnsMusic Sorry about that. My question is. When you make an album and you will have 15 songs, can you write the multiple artist on main artist in each songs from your album?

Dear Pete... I want to release a cover song of the classic "When I Fall In Love" written by Edward Heyman... do i need first to secure legal permission or can I release, just not receive any royalties for my version? How could this work easily for me? I appreciate your guidance... Jackie
Hey Jackie. DistroKid can manage the licensing of covers for you however it will cost extra to release a cover, which is $1 per month per song. studiolivetoday.com/distrokid

Also im in another country so i need help understanding that treaty stuff. Love to hear back from u. I go by bx gonz from bronx originally, now im living in Haiti still purseing tuus dream
Pete, I'm writing before watching all this video. (I promise to do it later but I have never asked a question and didn't know how soon you might answer...) I was successful in downloading songs from my son's cd he recorded 16 years ago...(I know don't laugh) One song was rejected ...this is from Distrokid... "Oh dang. We checked the audio format, sample rate, and bit depth of this song and found a problem. " Can we take the recorded song (it just him singing with his guitar) and put it into garageband and add vocals and instruments to it.
Hey Debbie. Yes, you sure can. Just import the file in to GarageBand, add whatever you would like, and then export as a WAV file. If the file is not supported by GarageBand you may need to convert it first using something like AudioShare. Perhaps send me an email if you're having issues and I can walk you through it. pete@studiolivetoday.com
Hello Pete, im about to put my music on Spotify and ITunes using distrokid. But before that I just have 1 question. Can I take the 20 dollar subscription the first year and then take the musician plus option next year?
Yup, sure can! It’s actually what I did. Just make sure you upgrade just before the one year mark or you’ll pay “twice” so to speak. ruclips.net/video/Ji7mL1XNK30/видео.html
When I click on the music sticker, a pop up comes up with my artist name and a preview of the music. However, when I click on the artist name a notification appears saying "No profile has been linked to the artist." How can I fix this? Do you have a fix for this?
Hi there. What platform are you referring to when you’re clicking? Within DistorKid or a store? Your Spotify and Apple artist pages are not usually set up immediately but should be available soon after your first release.
DistroKid uploads to RUclips to a Topic channel which is just the album artwork and on a channel that is not controlled by you. You can then upload separately if you wish.
Peter, if I am uploading the explicit and clean versions of my songs, do I have do both separatley and will both version of the songs be sent to all the stores I have selected?
Hi, we’re publishing 2 singles (separated) using distrokid: It’s been 3 business days and we’ve got the email that says that the audio is good, the artwork also but we we haven’t got any email that says: your song is now on Spotify/Apple music or etc. But i’ve noticed that when you login, you have a green dot on your releases on the left, does that mean that your songs are live on the stores? Because i’ve got 2 yellow ones. Thanks
Hey there. Yes, yellow means “in progress” so they are on their way to being released. I believe there are some delays at the moment across many of the stores so released may be taking longer than usual.
Hi Pete, you have not included Spotify editorial playlist submission in your video? I know one artist can submit only one song at any time to spotify editorial submission (three weeks in advance). How does one know if the submission has been reviewed and if they can upload the next song for submission? I feel this is a serious limitation of how frequently one can release singles via distrokid. What is your opinion on this? Have u managed two artists with the Musician Plus account? Would you know if both artists can submit to spotify submission separately? Any help would be much appreciated.
I haven’t ever really focused on promotion of music, just distribution. There are other channels with info about playlists and promotions. I would check out Damien Keyes.
Hi Pete, thank you for your videos👍question: does distrokid allow to upload videos (and not only cover image) on youtube? If not, how can I do so in a way I can monetize it?
Hey there. No unfortunately. Distributors only distribute music I’m afraid. To monetise videos on RUclips you need to be part of the RUclips partner program and allow advertising on your videos. Requires 1,000 subscribers and 4.000 watch hours in 12 months to apply.
Hey Pete, If I have previously uploaded a song on my youtube channel, would that be counted as already released? Hence Do I need to select already released and put in original release date while uploading the same on distrokid
No. RUclips videos don't count as "released" - only if you've released using another distributor. My DistroKid FAQ is here if you need help - studiolivetoday.com/distrokid
Hi there. No, artist name changes are generally not possible. You can upgrade to the Musician Plus account and add a second artist name and release new music using this, it stores will reject the same audio and track info being uploaded by a different artist name
Hi Pete, this video is gold! Thank you ♥ I wanted to know, if I switch to the PLUS plan, which I want to share with a friend, but we are 2 different artists, can we upload our music separately? 2 spotify accounts? The payments also arrive in a discriminatory way? In other words, for each artist? I hope you can answer, thank you
Hey there. You. An use a Musician Plus account to release music separately under two different artist names, and you can see money earned by artist name in the bank details, however it will all be paid to the account holder and you would need to split it manually. For two independent artists I would always recommend two individuals accounts to keep things clean.
I’m not quite sure I follow your question sorry? Maybe ask over at the Create Record Release Facebook group at createrecordreleaae.com, or the Discord group here - studiolivetoday.com/discord.
@@PeteJohnsMusic Not on FB. sorry. Its as simple as the URL that Distro wants that Ive uploaded the exact way before, now isnt working. I have only one youtube artist profile on here,.. I basically copied and pasted URL into a word file so I wouldnt have to keep doing it over and over looking up all the wanker outlets. Anyway, its still not working. I give up.
You can. There’s a higher risk of one of the platforms rejecting when using non-standard capitalisation, but it’s usually fine. My FAQ is here - studiolivetoday.com/distrokid
@@PeteJohnsMusic Thank you for the response! I'm mainly focusing on the spotify release since I'd like more soft songs to be all lower case. I guess I'll try my luck, just can't wait to get my music out there!
Hey Pete ! Thank you for your amazing videos that help a lot. I will soon distribute music using Distrokid and I was wondering if I have to put the "Parental advisory explicit content" logo on my artwork if : - a single has explicit content ? - an EP has 1 song with explicit content ? Have a nice day :) !
Hey there. So I haven’t personally released music with explicit lyrics at all, but I believe the advisory icon is optional these days anyway. As long as you tag the actual track which is explicit in the data when you upload, your he album artwork doesn’t need to have it.
Peter regarding artwork for the songs I am uploading the info states the same artwork must not be used for different albums, question can the same artwork be used for different singles?
hello pete! i have a question. i have a private youtube channel where i already posted my music but without a distributor. if i release my music with distrokid, will my music be uploaded to a separate youtube channel? and if ever thats the case, will i be able to edit the description (for shout-outs and thanks) and reply to comments? also, youre very awesome because you actually interact with questions and concerns. the world needs people like you!!
Hey there my friend. I answer these and other questions over on my DistroKid FAQ here / studiolivetoday.com/distrokid To answer your Q, yes if you choose RUclips as a release platform it will release to a separate “topic” channel. You don’t have control over this to change the description but can reply to comments using a personal RUclips account.
@@PeteJohnsMusic thank you! but how do i get control over that "topic" channel? do i pay extra fees? (that's okay) i want to know because i don't want to get locked out of that account.
Hey great video. Actually wjen uploading our track, in the section where it asks us to put a name of our label (In the musician + plan) Can we put a name of a record label that we will create in the future or they need a name that is actually a real label that exists? As of the actual file of the track that we upload on distrokid does it need to be in -14 LUFS. Do we need the normal punchy version of the mastering to upload it somewhere else so when people buy the track they can have the normal mastering version of it? Your opinion is highly appreciated! Thank you!
Hey there Ronni. In terms of the file, this is pretty much a personal choice. I generally make one mastered version that goes out everywhere but it’s up to you. Record label? Yeah, you can make your own and use it ongoing even if it doesn’t technically “exist”. My tunes are released under “Studio Live Today Records”. 👍
@@PeteJohnsMusic hey thanks for leting me know. Actually as of the loud and soft version of the mastering i think the loud mastering is needed in every case other than streaming purposes but its not the optimal to submit a - 7db rms squshed version on Spotify. But for clubs stations and other purposes the louder Master i a must. Im trying to figure a way to have the soft version on Spotify but i dont know if there is a solution for that
Could you release a single with one distributor then release the same song on an album with another? If so, would that require using a different ISRC code? Remastered or not?
Hey there. If you get the best quality uncompressed file delivered to stores, it will only get compressed once (by Spotify, iTunes etc). If you upload a compressed file to begin with, it still gets re-compressed meaning you will lose even more quality.
A cover song? There’s an additional fee for covers to the nature you have the license from the original artist. More info at - studiolivetoday.com/distrokid.
There is a “fixer” tool within DistroKid which can help with this. It’s possible to have the same name but every time you release there is always a risk it will be added to the other artist.
Hey there my friend. I don't spend a lot of time marketing my music personally, because my focus is more of helping people get their music created and released. My biggest tip though is to focus on genuine engagement with others. Spend the time to join groups and communities and participate in discussions and feedback on other peoples' music. Especially when starting out this will really help you make connections with other like-minded people.
Hey Pete, I uploaded an album to DistroKid on Friday evening and I got a good bit of emails from DistroKid saying about 5 of my songs off the album had been processed and approved. Well I figured that this week distrokid would’ve sent it to the stores to be processed, however I just got another email from DistroKid that says on the the songs off my album (one I didn’t previously get an email about) had been processed. Do you think this email is just really late or had DistroKid not even sent the album to the stores yet? This question might not be something you can answer, but just thought I’d try here first.
Hey there. I haven't come across this situation before sorry, so don't know exactly what would have happened here. Did the previous emails actually say that the album had been sent to stores or had been processed and approved at DistroKid's end? You might need to try to check in directly with DistroKid on this one.
Pete Johns None of the emails said it was being sent to the stores, but on their website it said it was (including a little green dot next to all the songs, with a yellow dot next to the whole album). I just got an email from the DistroKid saying the last song was approved so hopefully whatever those past things said now it is on it’s way to the stores. Just sort of annoying it took them a while to process the album and I’m not really sure why it wasn’t all processed at once.
WAIT!! AT 13:05 "youtube Music".. I never saw an option for youtube music earlier in that same page, so where is that sending it to? My youtube channel? a separate channel?
RUclips Music is not related to your private RUclips channel, it will release the music to a RUclips Topic channel so folks can stream as audio/video on the RUclips and RUclips Music platforms. ruclips.net/channel/UCrX-h37Hf58pQKtB7CmqFxQ
@@PeteJohnsMusic So let's say you release the song on your private channel first then rerelease it with Amuse. It'll put in on the topic channel and also copyright the one on your private?
Hey, Pete! Recently I bought the musician plus plan. It says I have 2 available spots. How can my friend upload music via my distrokid? Do I have to change my name to his where it says aritist's name?
whenever you release music a topic channel is made and in the description it says Provided to RUclips by Distrokid, If you have the label Option is that still the same?
@@PeteJohnsMusic No i meant when ever a Song is uploaded to a topic, in the description it says Provided to youtube by distrokid. But if you Choose the label option, will it stay the same?
Ah gotcha. The label name can be changed from the “DK....” to whatever u liked pretty sure it still stays it was uploaded by DistroKid. studiolivetoday.com/distrokid
You pretty much need to pick an artist brake fro your group and go with this. If it’s featured artists include this in the title as featured artists. studiolivetoday.com/distrokid
Hey there my friend. This is something I have asked DistroKid about a few times. It is on their radar but not in development yet. Would be a very handy feature for sure!!
Pete, do you know, if I download an album of cover songs, let’s say 10 songs, is Distrokid going to charge me $1 per month, per song? Am I going to be charged $10 per month or $120 per year?
Hey Pete! One thing I’m not sure about is licensing or copyright? So.. if I make a song and directly upload it to distrokid, without doing anything else then is the song automatically copyright protected in any way ?😕
Hey there my friend. The challenge is that this is different in every country depending on copyright laws. Here in Australia for example, you own the copyright to anything you produce as soon as you write it record it. In the US I believe you need to register a song to “own” the copyright. Bottom line (and my recommendation) is to release your music to as many platforms as you can, as this provides a time stamped record of the song attached to your name in multiple places. For example, even though I don’t “own the copyright”, if someone in the US tried to use my music and claim it as theirs, it would be very hard for them to prove, unless they had a release dated earlier than mine. Sorry - I wish this app as much simpler but there’s quite a few variables.
Hi, I just uploaded a debut single to distrokid for release on may 8th (it was uploaded april 21st). do you think that's enough time? I haven't seen them say anything about current delays! thank you
Hey Alice. So it may get out there on time, however there are definitely delays being reported right now, and it seems to be taking 3-4 weeks total for some users. They haven’t released anything about delays unfortunately but fork what I’m hearing from others, they are definitely there at the distributor, store, or perhaps both ends. ruclips.net/video/TZmSraJk8Tg/видео.html
You can use multiple distributors but it generally doesn’t make much sense. Each one offers similar services and if you try to release to the same platform using multiple distributors it can actually make things more confusing. So I would pick one and stick with it - at least for the majority of your releases.
Hello ! Pete I have a question regarding artist name ! Like my artist Name is drake drone . Is it possible to remove only drone in distrokid in musician plus ? Because I want only drake ! Please say me !
Hey there. You can add a second artist name and release under this name if you upgrade to Musician Plus. I would strongly suggest against using “Drake” however. It is very important to be unique so your music is not hidden due to another artist with the same name.
Hey there Chip. Thanks for your question. Yep, you sure can! DistroKid themselves explain this in their FAQ and will do a better job that I would, so I'll link that below. distrokid.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/360021298953-Can-I-upload-a-single-before-my-album-and-then-include-that-single-on-my-album-
Hey there. I haven’t ever actually done this to a release that was already scheduled, so not sure if and when you’ll get a pre-save link back. You might need to check in with DistroKid.
Hey Pete! I've uploaded my song on distrokid, but before that, I have already an artist profile beforehand, and my artist profile before was on ALL CAPS, but I still clicked on the "artist/band name" to preserve non standard capitalization, and it uploaded successfully with my artist name in all caps. but on future releases, when I try to upload, my artist name went to its normal format again. Also, if I click my artist page on spotify and claim thats my profile, distrokid doesnt really follow it and creates a new artist page instead.
Hey there. I'm wondering if all caps is not allowed by stores and streaming platforms which is why it reverted? Might be one that you need to ask DistroKid about directly sorry.
*PLEASE ANSWER* With the $19.99 account does it 1.Tell you when the release date is in advance? 2. Release to all platforms at the same time? Someone please answer!
Hi there. It will release as soon as possible and may land on different platforms at different times. The Musician Plus plan is likely what you need. ruclips.net/video/Ji7mL1XNK30/видео.html
Hey Pete, in case I've released a song with another distributor many years back but due to non payment my agreement with that distributor becomes null and void and my songs are removed by them from streaming platforms like apple music, iheart Radio etc.. Can i directly upload those songs directly on DistroKid? Would that cause any infringement issues?
Hey there. As long as as you own the copyright for the songs and they are not currently available on platforms (and would cause a duplicate) then yes this would be fine.
I already released my song in yt and after one month I uploaded in distrokid I set the song already released and set the date it showing the date uploaded on 27 may and release date is 27 March what to do
Hello I have a question no one seems to have the answer to. I originally subscribed to the label plan (5 to 10 artists) then a year later by mistake, when trying to renew my subscription (I didn’t know it had already renewed automatically) they accepted my “second”payment as an upgrade payment and put me on the label plus account (10-20 artists)! So currently I’m paying a fortune yearly and every time a released is renew I am charged with the extras too. I’m desperate and don’t know what to do!!! So frustrating! I know the only way to downgrade is by canceling my current label account and subscribing again, but this time I would subscribe to the musician plus account. Do you know if I was to do this, will I have to pay for all the uploads individually again? I have 7 releases of my own and 26 from other artist. That will be a fortune for me to pay at once! Hopefully I can find someone with this experience to walk me through.
@@PeteJohnsMusic Thank you so much for replying!!! Much appreciated! ‼️PLEASE TAKE NOTE‼️ I already tried reaching out since last year right when it happened with no success, to ask how it all would work out, but there’s no one available only bots. The only option I found on the hundreds of articles they reply with, was to cancel and subscribe again, then re upload. No option to transfer anything. 😕
Hi, anyone who's used distrokid, if you've already submitted for a release date and it's processing, can one change things like album art or artist name BEFORE the work is released?
Hi there, Just wanted to chime in! I am setting myself up to release on DK. I've been going back and forth with customer service reps and have been advised that you can make those changes between the time you upload the song and the date the song releases. Am I being given incorrect info Pete? Tx - Dre
Yep. US $12 per year for each cover so if you want to keep in stores. The benefit is that you don’t have to arrange the mechanical license with the original artist yourself.

And when i fill the artist name on song upload form i am typing my name and the other artist name in that column the result i get that distrokid is making one profile on both of our name but we want our different profile on one song but it is showing only on title on both names for example when we write in artist column steve and mike instead of making two profile on the both name it is creating only one profile on the name steve and mike please tell me i am in a problem my all music projects a getting delayed due to this issue . I think this may be a issue because i have used "and” instead of “&” in between two artist name in the artist column This is my first collaboration i want to distribute to all the stores you profile .

Please has Distrokid removed youtube Content ID feature ?
Thanks, Tom
I would always give it at least a few days just to be sure. studiolivetoday.com/distrokid

@@PeteJohnsMusic Sorry about that. My question is. When you make an album and you will have 15 songs, can you write the multiple artist on main artist in each songs from your album?
I’ve been having trouble getting song “accepted” with distrokid. It lets some songs upload but not others. Saying things like, “ops. Wrong format” or “zero bytes” even though the other songs they accepted is in the same WAV format. I’m confused???

Hey Jackie. DistroKid can manage the licensing of covers for you however it will cost extra to release a cover, which is $1 per month per song. studiolivetoday.com/distrokid

Do you have a fix for this?
Hi there. What platform are you referring to when you’re clicking? Within DistorKid or a store? Your Spotify and Apple artist pages are not usually set up immediately but should be available soon after your first release.

Hey Pete I have an artwork that is not 3000x 3000 pixels. What should I do 😔?
I would recommend re-designing artwork that is 3000x3000 to make sure it works.
Does the album cover photo also show up in the RUclips video (audio) or do you have to upload audio video yourself?
DistroKid uploads to RUclips to a Topic channel which is just the album artwork and on a channel that is not controlled by you. You can then upload separately if you wish.
Peter, if I am uploading the explicit and clean versions of my songs, do I have do both separatley and will both version of the songs be sent to all the stores I have selected?
Hi there. Yes, if you want both to be available you will need to upload both versions and tag accordingly.
@@PeteJohnsMusic thank you

Haha!! Feel free to tune in after the final whistle. 😄
What do u put in recorded label part? Will they reject your song if u just put whatever
You can pretty much name it whatever you like. I went with "Studio Live Today Records".
Hi, we’re publishing 2 singles (separated) using distrokid:
It’s been 3 business days and we’ve got the email that says that the audio is good, the artwork also but we we haven’t got any email that says: your song is now on Spotify/Apple music or etc.
Pete Johns so you think that has not anything to do with the fact it’s my first time?
Possibly? It can take a little longer if you’re not already in Apple Music and Spotify.
Has your music been released on Apple Music or Spotify yet?
Did hou mange to get them posted, if so how long?
@@PeteJohnsMusic Many thanks for ur reply. I believe this is a feature within Distrokid and so I asked.
Hey Pete,
If I have previously uploaded a song on my youtube channel, would that be counted as already released? Hence Do I need to select already released and put in original release date while uploading the same on distrokid
No. RUclips videos don't count as "released" - only if you've released using another distributor. My DistroKid FAQ is here if you need help - studiolivetoday.com/distrokid
Hello !
Can you please say Me can we change our artist name in distrokid by upgraded version .
Is it possible ?
Hi there. No, artist name changes are generally not possible. You can upgrade to the Musician Plus account and add a second artist name and release new music using this, it stores will reject the same audio and track info being uploaded by a different artist name
Hello Pete. I just uploaded a song to be released next week. They said it might be delayed. Do you know how long usually?
Is it your first release? It’s usually around 2 weeks for your first song and then 3-5 days for future releases once your artist name is established.
Hi Pete, this video is gold! Thank you ♥
I wanted to know, if I switch to the PLUS plan, which I want to share with a friend, but we are 2 different artists, can we upload our music separately? 2 spotify accounts?
The payments also arrive in a discriminatory way? In other words, for each artist?
I hope you can answer, thank you
Hey there. You. An use a Musician Plus account to release music separately under two different artist names, and you can see money earned by artist name in the bank details, however it will all be paid to the account holder and you would need to split it manually.
For two independent artists I would always recommend two individuals accounts to keep things clean.
THE URL for RUclips seems like a calculus problem. WHere is that in this video?? Cant up;load my stuff without YT idiocy. Unbelievable.
I'm thinking of publishing my first songs with distrokid but I'm wondering can you name a song with all lower cases there?
Pete can you help me? I've uploaded my first single and it's been 2 weeks still my songs isn't live or uploaded in any of the store
Hi there. Yes, there are some delays across the board at the moment due to the current situation in the world coupled with much higher demand.
Oh okay, thank you so much pete.
Hey Pete ! Thank you for your amazing videos that help a lot.
I will soon distribute music using Distrokid and I was wondering if I have to put the "Parental advisory explicit content" logo on my artwork if :
- a single has explicit content ?
- an EP has 1 song with explicit content ?
Have a nice day :) !
Hey there. So I haven’t personally released music with explicit lyrics at all, but I believe the advisory icon is optional these days anyway. As long as you tag the actual track which is explicit in the data when you upload, your he album artwork doesn’t need to have it.
@@PeteJohnsMusic Thank you so much for your answer :) 🙏
Peter regarding artwork for the songs I am uploading the info states the same artwork must not be used for different albums, question can the same artwork be used for different singles?
hello pete! i have a question.
i have a private youtube channel where i already posted my music but without a distributor.
if i release my music with distrokid, will my music be uploaded to a separate youtube channel? and if ever thats the case, will i be able to edit the description (for shout-outs and thanks) and reply to comments?
also, youre very awesome because you actually interact with questions and concerns. the world needs people like you!!
Hey there my friend. I answer these and other questions over on my DistroKid FAQ here / studiolivetoday.com/distrokid
To answer your Q, yes if you choose RUclips as a release platform it will release to a separate “topic” channel. You don’t have control over this to change the description but can reply to comments using a personal RUclips account.
@@PeteJohnsMusic thank you! but how do i get control over that "topic" channel? do i pay extra fees? (that's okay) i want to know because i don't want to get locked out of that account.
Can you get royalty payments from PRO?
Hey there. Not via DistroKid. CD Baby and some other distributors offer services that incorporate other mechanical royalties.
You can use the same ISRC if it’s the same version of the song. If it’s not, I’d just release it without the ISRC
Hey Pete, why would you recommend uploading the uncompressed file?
Hey there. If you get the best quality uncompressed file delivered to stores, it will only get compressed once (by Spotify, iTunes etc). If you upload a compressed file to begin with, it still gets re-compressed meaning you will lose even more quality.
WOW Gotcha. Thanks man! I truly appreciate your work
HELP! I have an original song and I want a hidden track that is a cover what do I do?
A cover song? There’s an additional fee for covers to the nature you have the license from the original artist.
More info at - studiolivetoday.com/distrokid.
When u need to apload the audio, does it works if its an mp4 file ?
Hey there. Video file? No. M4A? I believe so but wouldn’t recommend it. Uncompressed WAV is always best.
@@PeteJohnsMusic thanks ((:
Hi Pete, its me once again. What if I dont want to change my artist name and there is already an artist with that name? What are the steps then?
There is a “fixer” tool within DistroKid which can help with this. It’s possible to have the same name but every time you release there is always a risk it will be added to the other artist.
@@PeteJohnsMusic I"ll look for it and hopefully, find it :-)
Hw do you I play my song in distrokid before 5days end
Not sure exactly what you’re asking sorry? Maybe check out my DistroKid FAQ here - studiolivetoday.com/distrokid
With approximately 20,000 songs, half being new material, being posted everyday, how are you marketing your music?
Hey there my friend. I don't spend a lot of time marketing my music personally, because my focus is more of helping people get their music created and released. My biggest tip though is to focus on genuine engagement with others. Spend the time to join groups and communities and participate in discussions and feedback on other peoples' music. Especially when starting out this will really help you make connections with other like-minded people.

Hi Pete, as far as the spotify account how do you add a artist pic?
You will get access to Spotify for artists and can then add your pic there.

Will you ever be able to upload from iPhone or iPad as everyone doesn’t use a pc mac these days
Hey there my friend. This is something I have asked DistroKid about a few times. It is on their radar but not in development yet. Would be a very handy feature for sure!!
Does distrokid sent you an email when it’s time to pay for a new year or are you automatically charged
Hey there. It’s an automatic renewal. So you would set yourself a reminder once you sign up.
Pete, do you know, if I download an album of cover songs, let’s say 10 songs, is Distrokid going to charge me $1 per month, per song? Am I going to be charged $10 per month or $120 per year?
Hey there. Yes, each individual song needs to be licensed so you need to pay $1 per month for every cover song.

They haven’t released anything about delays unfortunately but fork what I’m hearing from others, they are definitely there at the distributor, store, or perhaps both ends. ruclips.net/video/TZmSraJk8Tg/видео.html
do you have to release them to stores? i’d rather them only be on streaming platforms
You can choose each individual platform you would like to release to during the upload process.
Is it a must to use one distribution company or one can use multiple companies ?
You can use multiple distributors but it generally doesn’t make much sense. Each one offers similar services and if you try to release to the same platform using multiple distributors it can actually make things more confusing. So I would pick one and stick with it - at least for the majority of your releases.
What if I don’t want a price on a song what do I do ?
I just want it to be downloadable
You’ll just need to use a different service like Soundcloud or Bandcamp.
Hello !

drake drone .
Is it possible to remove only drone in distrokid in musician plus ?
Because I want only drake !

Hey there. You can add a second artist name and release under this name if you upgrade to Musician Plus. I would strongly suggest against using “Drake” however. It is very important to be unique so your music is not hidden due to another artist with the same name.

Hello sir, I puchased you Musician Plus Plan and i want to release a collaboration for the first time . Please help me
With respect
Thank You
Hi there. I haven’t used the feature to split a song between two different accounts so not sure on this. I believe the Musician Plus account is more so you personally can use a second artist name and necessarily combine the two. I wound reach out to DistroKid directly - studiolivetoday.com/distrokid
Is there soundscan? like i gain earnings if someone uses my song in a video?
Yes, you can choose to use Content ID when you release however it is $4.95 per release. I talk about this towards the end of the video.
Pete Johns thanks for the advice i appreciate it alot, but do you also happen to know if they release on Musi and AudioMack
