👇 ABOUT ME:
Hey! I’m Damian Keyes and I've worked with musicians every day of my life for the past 20 years. The internet is de ply untrusting understandably and here is my background so you can have the full picture.
When I was 18, I was signed to a major label and at 23 I co-founded a Music University in Europe called BIMM (valued at $300M). I’m also a bass player, I’ve played for a number of artists including Eric Clapton, Alanis Morrisette and Billy Cobham. I initially retired at 30, but realised that life gets boring if you’re not building!
I have always been in-between the music industry and education which is how I ended up building my RUclips channel - I’ve been teaching artists how to release music long before it was a ‘niche’! I now educate artists around the world with my Academy, RUclips channel and Social Agency.
It’s great to meet you and looking forward to working together on your music!
I release music on Pirate bay, I have one Iranian fan
You can do that?
hahahaha
LMAO
You have to start somewhere.
One is better than none ;)
You are a hero
So much responsibilities... I became a musician to avoid those ! Damn.. I should start baking.
Haha love this! I do love cakes 🙌🙌
This is deep! 👍
Probably more profitable...
I literally own a bread bakery and funded my home studio off the profits of my bread sales! Then I recorded and album and put it out on Spotify. Now I got a few fans. And I still bake bread. Baking bread and making music are both awesome.

Being a songwriter is soo hard. Gotta be the singer, the producer, the the marketing, the designer, a student... aaaah. It's so damn hard. I just released my first song and boy if it is hard but it's super fulfilling too
Just subscribed to your page bruv. Keep working!
Well for me sometimes songwriting goes like butter, sometimes like not butter
@@KidAstronaut Ah you're a legend, thank you so much! :)
@@athaniwastaken haha very much true, but the feeling you get when something you wrote makes sense and other people see themselves in your words is just invaluable
Feel fulfilled yet? Or did it go nowhere. Rigged industry.
"We've just put a song out. Can we feature it on open mic night?"
Coronavirus: No.
Right?
HA HA!
Is it a cover? No? Then no. XD
*Every day, we help artists grow their audience and reach new listeners, fully understanding that song promotion can be tough (but always successful with us). In today's world, even great music requires investment in promotion to thrive*
I'm gonna ask the Hospital Radio to play my Extreme Technical Death Metal band. We're called "Death on the Operation Room" btw.
Please tell me this is genuine 😂
I see absolutely no issues here
Same with my band ‘Dead On Arrival’, they’ll love my song ‘no one gets out alive.’ It’s gonna be great!
What a cool name!
Lol. If I were in a hospital, that's exactly what I would want to listen to! No joke!
"It's your responsibility to look after the fan and put in the time, not theirs" love that quote
If you are looking to promote your Spotify check out . They can help you boost your listeners, with legit streams.
You’ve not only told me how to make fans, but also made me your fan.
Much respect, we definitely need more people like you 🖤

"can we do a gig?"
"Yeah, you have to sell $300 worth of tickets minimum, or pay in whatever you don't sell" - Every promoter in the area.
True
Fair enough, promotors and venues need to make money too! It's business!
@@officialWWM I agree. I guess that's why they sell tickets on their site to the show, sell alcohol at the bar, and require a $ amount sold in by each local. Most people will say they have more overhead, and yeah, I would agree. Meanwhile making music isn't cheap either. Don't waste your time with gigs till you can garauntee ticket sales. Instead, use the internet. RUclips, ig, facebook, twitter. Make fans now. The internet gives us a much larger reach than a venue, for a fraction of the price.
@@WillieTheAutomaton that's true but playing live is fun and that's why I play music! I'm a booking agent/promotor and I'm sympathetic to bands needs but at the end of the day, bums on seats is how we all pay the bills. My advice to a band with no fan base or pulling power is to get on the bill with a band who does sell tickets, the bring your A game and blow people away! If you can do that, you will be selling tickets in no time!
@@officialWWM you're a booking agent / promotor? That would make sense why your suggestion is to get people to play live when they have no fan base to sell tickets to. "Get on with a band that sells tickets" that doesn't help them. That band is going on at the end of the night when everyone is there. Mainly because no one is going to show up until it's time for them to go on. Meanwhile there band that got on the show because band X sells tickets, plays to an empty floor, or maybe a few of the other bands members and their merch person. It's not worth it.
I have no fans, I haven't released my newly trademarked name, I'm still scared to release my new song. This video has helped me get a new outlook on how I approach releasing music and helping others with their struggles. I've never heard of your channel until now. Subscribing and hitting that bell. Thank you. I've been working on this for going on 10 years. Wish me luck guys.
I'm at 6 years and hoping to get my foot in the door as well! My ultimate goal is saving myself from my dead-end, psychologically destructive retail job for the sake of my well-being, as well as getting what I believe to be a valuable perspective out there. And of course to inspire someone the same way my favorite albums and artists inspire me.
How did it go after 2 years?
Self dought always creeps in. Just recognize it and tell it see ya later. Release your song now.
I’d love to check it out !
Man you really are an inspiration. I've been gigging and working with artists and releasing my own stuff for years but every time I watch your content i'm taken back to school in the best way possible. It makes SUCH a difference that you come across well and you aren't arrogant. Keep up the great work and thank you so much for the inspiration and sharing your hard earned knowledge.
Wait wait wait...so you're telling me, I need to go get friends.....AND SOCIALIZE?!?!? AND TALK TO PEOPLE?!?!?!
Welp....rip my music....
It's not that hard... if you do it online... Start somewhere, and start before. Or when you're actually capable of making music, you won't know how or who to approach and promote... ;P Just a tip.

thank you so much for everything you do Damian. Means a whole hell of a lot to have someone who actually wants to help and does.
I needed to see this. I’m releasing my first track soon and was so confused on what to do… Thank you ❤
The quality of your videos is like someone with 5Mil+ subs, keep it up!
Luke Abram thank you so much Luke! Hopefully one day 😊😊😊
This video couldn't come at a better time. I'm starting again from zero. I feel good about it
Keep me updated! 😊😊
And now?
I like this a lot! I feel like so many artists are stuck here, but after years of hacking away and what has seemed like very slow progress I have learned exactly what you said that VALUE is key. Also that momentum builds over time (like the A to A 1/2 concept), it snowballs over time if you stay consistent and constantly add value. A deep connection with one fan is better than shallow connections with 1,000 fans.
Love your videos man! Have been following your channel for almost 2 years and I feel like your content is becoming even more helpful.
Ahhh thank you! 2 years - gone quick right!!
This is the best video, I really appreciate this content. It really goes around the bullshit of what a lot of other ppl don't talk about. Thank you very much ✨
Great advice and insight. It’s so true that it is the ARTIST’s responsibility-not the audience-to bring value and put in the time/effort to engage.
to be honest I really love you man you are a great teacher. i'm always bored when it comes to watch vlogs or learning about something, i quit dont finish watch anything till the end, but to your video i can watch them till the without even get bored so thanks again
thank you! it's worth my time. I've learned a lot in your content.
Thanks for these tips Damo, it comes at the perfect time for us about to release a second single and putting a LOT of pressure on ourselves to promote it as much as possible to an "empty room". There were some great ideas in the 20 day plan video and I like the idea of spreading the content with behind the scenes + audio release + music video + track video to keep the momentum going. This video makes me realise that as a new artist those strategies that the major labels are employing can only be scaled back so far. Though I enjoy the element of fake it till you make it and getting into good marketing/self promotion habits right from the start I'm going to get it all out at once and use it to raise awareness post release.
Another helpful video DK. Ten years after my last album faded away, I'm in exactly this position, starting again with a new release and all the counters set to zero. It's taken over my whole world again inside a month! Good luck everybody,
Thanks Damian! This was what I needed to see. I've finished a song and video after a long hiatus from the music industry. I was on Sony and Warner Chappel Australia years ago and released 2 albums. After touring and promotion for 5 years I ran into legal problems and eventually left my career. I have kept writing but just lived my life for several years. Friends have encouraged me and helped me do some music on my own recently but things have changed so much with technology and social media. Listening to this video clarified for me that I should just put the video on RUclips and sign up with CD baby then go from there. So thank you. Very much appreciate your channel.
thanks so much for this video, all the tips make so much sense, great!!!!
Great advice! I have been too busy to do my original music for years (hides from Damian's wrath) but recently I decided to take a few months out from my regular work. The difference in the results I'm getting from dedicating all of my focus and time on getting people on side, booking gigs and building a bit of a following ahead of releasing my first recording. Your videos have really helped mate I look forward to many more!
Thanks Damian, always delivering quality content! I think this might be one of your best videos so far especially for engagement, this whole comment section is full of people soaking up the value you're dropping here, awesome!
Thanks so much! Means a lot honestly 😊😊
Very cool video. Very clear and direct info on stuff that I have really needed help with for a long time. I subscribed!
I love your ideas! Great video! I am looking forward to releasing my music, and this video and made the process seem a lot less intimidating. Thanks man!
No matter where you are as a musician this info is valuable. You never stop building your fanbase.
i agree!
that was so beautiful the way you worded how you felt when you first heard rage against the machine and "enter sandman"
This is amazing advice!! I been watching dozens of videos of things to do before of a release and doing each thing on the checklist just to realize that with only 20 subscribers I have been screaming to an empty room like Damian said
Love your channel straight forward and full of info Mahalo man! 🤙🏽
This guy definitely brings value to me. Second video and I'm a fan!
Well, I might already have a fanbase of 3 people, but damn it's hard to get your music heard. I think the key to grow your audience is consistency. Once you have a lot to offer people will take you more serious as an artist :)
You did the right thing by adding a video on your RUclips profile, and Spotify link, this is simple thing, then do some good comments on other people's videos you might get some more view. It takes time, keep writing and try to release some more songs or versions of existing songs, something every 3-6 months if you can. Keep going, I know how hard it was to get those Spotify listeners, but that is over half way to 100.
really appreciate these videos man, super informative. thank you !!
You have really enlightened me, I am so blessed, and a step in the right direction for the new year 2022. Thanks

wonderful content, Damian- great way to get the juices flowing....
This video is absolutely amazing. These are all foolproof, tried and true methods! Even though I am a producer not an artist, I was able to take an entire page worth of notes from this video. I highly recommend this video, it has been a long time since I have seen such a helpful clip. Make sure you watch all the way through!
What's the difference between producer and artist? I guess I don't see it since I'm solo. An artist "produces" music, no?

Thank you Damien for providing us so much value. It's really a blessing to have these guiding messages now, and to be reminded of the joy of this process. It's so easy to get caught up in the constraints of the artistic process and go completely off track of where you were trying to reach!

@@DamianKeyes I definitely will! Sorry for the delay, I was at work! But I certainly will. It feels so nice to finally be putting this out there and I'm very happy with how the recording process is coming along so far. One of my songs that is gojng on this EP was written in 2013 but hasn't yet seen the light of day because I've always allowed others or myself to get in my way. But I set the deadline this time and I'm really doing it. I've got albums of songs ready to go and I'm very excited to hopefully resonate with some people. 🖤
It’s super hard getting started, especially if you are completely independent and still have other responsibilities. I’ve just started college and I’ve also recently released my first two songs, putting in about 100 hours into both of them combined, and both still have under 1000 listens on Spotify 😒 It’s pretty demotivating but I hope I can get somewhere sometime soon so I’m not just wasting time tryna make my songs perfect for nobody to listen to them
