Hey guys, Let's start helping each other build your fanbases. Link your music and socials in below and everyone go and check out each other's music. I'll be checking it out too :) Damo
I’m more and more convinced that building a fanbase is a marathon and not a sprint. Social media platforms and fads come and go and you need to adapt to and outlast them. You also need a sustainable relationship with your music. Not burning your money or yourself out with every release but finding a good balance in content creation, releasing content and actually enjoying content others make.
YESSS! I love that phrase - marathon not a sprint! Everyone seems to want massive following like yesterday - but even if they had it, would they be able to sustain it? Capitalise on it? Everything in good time! 🙌🏻
What's amazing about these videos is that it teaches people to create success themselves, it's like The KLF for the 2020's There's no "And on day 12 ask your record label to do this" It's all about how you can truly do it yourself now, and the advice is always outstanding, 10/10
Before this video, during the Ad, I was saying, "Please be a long video! Please be a long video!" 😅 I was not disappointed! DK you have my full support, and I don't plan to leave your life anytime soon ❤️❤️❤️
This video was ahead of it's time! 7/8 months later I've seen two big artists doing just this, that is, making entry level content. Mike Posner and SonReal have both taken this approach recently!
Love your approach Damian. My one goal besides deep learning and creating a lot of value for my future fans will be to meet you in person when the time is right. Best, Steven
This is good knowledge. But most important is how good your musik is, your ability to connect with your audience and personality... and just go out there and perform and connect with people. But you need to develop your talent. There are too many people that do not even try to learn music well and not even have their unique signature to it , but want to be famous and a star. So they copy someone else and someone else's creativity too often. It's more important to focus on this and the fans will follow. I do appreciate you sharing some important points here... thank you very much from a performer in Munich. I liked especially the part after 9 : 17 min in yiur video. Covers are important. People have a connection to them.
Thank you, this was a useful video, I thought. It's so difficult to get any sort of traction on social media. At the end of the day, you could be the best artist in the world (which I'm not!), but if you don't get visibility, you've lost already. It's a shame but it's the social media driven world we currently inhabit.
Brilliant information again. It’s so easy to forget that you should always be trying to appeal to a new fanbase and finding ways of inviting them in. Until enough people know you, that should be a big part of the strategy.
Pretty cool content to stumble across. I watched your 21 tips and 22 tips a few days ago. I'm in the painstaking writing process at the moment. But your videos are food for thought for further down the line for sure.
@@jaykpjohnson Yeah it is enjoyable. I'm writing hip hop and most of my verses are each hundreds of words long. Worrying about telling a decent story, rhyming, compound-rhyming, word-play along with many other variables, its not all fun and games. But its very rewarding when you start unlocking the puzzle. I'm at least a year away from releasing anything and worrying about things like marketing. Hopefully lyrical hip hop comes back by then :)
Great video man. I struggle to get the audio and video quality high enough for good micro content. If I use a bunch of microphones (i.e. as if I’m in a recording studio) I think the visual suffers and also doesn’t allow me to film in more mobile locations, but if I just use an iPhone to record everything the audio isn’t very good. Was curious if you had any advice on what gear to use for this type of content? What kind of equipment do you use?
As usual, DK presents great information that is practical and to the point. Always provides us food for thought on how to make our musical journey positive and better than the month before! Cheers!
I watched the 2020 video, then this one. I find the 2020 one WAY more valuable. However, this is almost just as great! Great content Damian & thank you 🙏
Cheers for another great vid Damo! Been slowly prepping for my album release in April, stacking up the content and promos, and slowly growing! Good luck to everyone on this journey! :D

MC for new raprock group here. We're basically starting from scratch. We're unknown with less than a thousand followers. Its been a challenge to break even that milestone. I hope this helps!
Great stuff Damian! The best introduction is an indirect one! Admittedly though, I suck at making micro-content... Primarily, I never know what content to make or how often to upload. And to make it worse- I also get tired and feel inauthentic trying to "keep up with the Jones'" (keeping up with what is "in" or not) so to speak... So I find myself just not doing it, and then feel worse about myself for it haha I have no clue what to do.
Don't feel bad about it - I think that whole social media became ridiculous at some point - it's good platform for cat pics, baby videos and tik tok dancers not much for arty stuff - did we sign to be musician/artist or entertainers ?
@@aRRRaiS yes I agree with you on everything... plus I was thinking that how about musicians that are more serious? Jazz and classical audiences do not follow as much. This is more appropriate more for pop stuff I think. Isn't it?!
@@tatjanaelevate Yes it is, and it seems like only pop do matter nowadays. After few years on socials i think that It’s waste of time and energy. It’s never ending chase of the rabbit with constant changes made by platforms. Unless you do What platform actually favours your profile will not see organic growth and I suspect that platforms cut reach of Artistic profiles because they want artists to pay for Ads. With current volume of artists on socials platforms know It’s huge money maker. Another observation - I really doubt that people go to Instagram/TikTok or Twitter to find music. RUclips is also shifting from music videos platform to podcasts. How can you put your focus on music while another 100 videos popping out everywhere ?
I really enjoyed this video. I did want to hear more however about the differences between how labels and how an artist promotes music. Perhaps another video !
It has actually been researched and the study found, that ‘badly recorded’ content Will actually translate as more authentic as opposed to high production value content, which can be interpreted as a commercial. That’s also why you often see phone recorded advertising on social media. It feels more personal. - in your case on yt obviously it’s a different thing
This depends on the context, we are putting out 20 pieces of content a day and if you only use poorly shot content it doesn’t have the comparison to show off the quality. Platforms will give content an authority score and so there are a lot of shades of grey when it comes to posting. When it comes to advertising there is psychology that it feels more relatable and trust worthy but that is different to building an audience 😊
Great content man, would love to see a video of you explaining how to make photos as an artist, or what do you need to make a music video and things like that..

Hi damian! Love this. This helps so much. I was wondering if the same applys to audio sounds that trend. Like how hard is to get a trending audio. Is it worth it?
