his jokes are on another level.
the camera man can't handle it
He's so fast
Seriously this guy is awesome 😆😆😆super talented but damn this guy is hilarious
The thing about only playing the solo gets you attention from the guys and you’ll be backstage talking about guitar pick gauges. Haha
Once you get past the satirical nature of Steel Panther's music, you realize that Satchel is actually a master guitarist. Awesome musician and awesome band.
He shreds as good as Paul Gilbert, I saw an old video of him just now.
If you haven't heard the Rob Halford lead band Fight from the mid 90's its a Young Russ AKA Satchel , its flat out killer Heavy Metal . That's the first I ever heard of him . Got to see them live in Houston at a small club and hes a Technician for sure .
JDMusic I wouldnt say that but he does rock.
he was at GIT with paul gilbert. actually played in a band there with him. there's a video of pauls where you see satchel
Eric Bee he was a teacher at GiT. He is a master by fact.
well I tuned into the vid to check out the amp ...but now im a Satchel fan...lol
+g cragg I came to check out Satchel....but now I'm gonna buy that amp
For sure one of the best and clean eruption cover i have ever heard.
Dude was literally Eddie in a popular VH cover band called the Atomic Punks about 10 years ago. Berklee grad/instructor in the 80s, Paul Gilberts roomie in the early 90s... the guy is a beast of a guitarist.
@Joe Paul Wait...back in the day in Phoenix I asked a cool guitar player to join my band and he said he would love to but he was already playing in Fight with Rob. I knew Rob and JJ, so was Satch the original guitarist for Fight? I wonder if it could be the same guy??
@Joe Paul Thanks, that would be wild if he is the same guy, I have always admired Satchel and had no clue! If I ever see him in person (again?) I will definitely ask if he remembers, lol. 🤘😁
@Joe Paul Thanks, we were both around 21-23ish. Now he is 48 and I am 49. Yes, I looked up some old pics of him when he had dark curly hair like mine, and that's him! Life is too funny. Thanks for the info! 🤘😁
they duplicated the exact tone of van halen when his hair was at its peak LMAO
Just good shit, the guitar, the amp, Satchel himself. Just awesome.
Just found out his history, used to teach guitar at GIT, buddies with Paul Gilbert, used to play with Jeff Martin (Racer X), plays with Rob Halford on his solo band FIGHT, played with Jeff Pilson's band (Dokken), plays on Van Halen tribute band called The Atomic Punks, and other bands. This guy's no joke of a musician.
I saw The Atomic Punks years ago when I was living in L.A. He nails VH.
i could of told u that years ago your alitttile late lol
@@forgotmyname4971 Saw them at HOB Anaheim a year or two prior to Steel Panther. They were killer. 💚🎸
this guy is seriously a great guitarist
Don't know why it's so cute when he pats the little amp!
Best one! : 4:25
Joe ScienceVegan Dude XD it kinda is...
Satchel sold me on this. Just ordered one.
same
should have gotten a evh 5150 iii.. its what he actually uses live and in studio i think.
"Should have gotten a 5150"
Do you also suggest your friends buy Ferraris when they say they're looking at a Honda Civic?
theyre not too expensive. just gotta look around.. got a 5153 and a marshall cabinet for $800 on craigslist. sure its about twice as expensive as this amp, but it sounds amazing
if your on a budget, and got $300 for a amp, sure this yamaha would be great.. way better than a line 6.
I like how the guy behind the camera tries to stifle his laughter from time to time.
That's a ridiculous amount of tone and distortion for such a small amp!! Color me majorly impressed. Russ is a monster of a player. Don't let the parody stuff fool you. I've seen him live 5 or 6 times and he's incredible.
and i met him
I love that Back in Black came out in 1980 and he said he 28, and when he talks about Van Halen 1(1978) he says he was 32 lol. Awesome stuff Satchel!
He is one of the best guitarist in the world “ one of the first songs you gonna learn” smashes out eruption with no sweat
ROFL I just laughed out loud when he said he was 28... lolol
Or when he said the first thing he learned on guitar ("I think everyone does") was the VH tapping riff... he was "32".
LOL!
JD Hoov Also Van Halen came out 2 years before Back in Black so he would have aged -4 years between Van Halen and Back in Black. I love Satchel, he is so good at just saying bullshit and putting on his fake persona with a totally straight face.
28 dog years
@@bigfilsing I don't know if anyone gets that joke, but i used to know a guy that spoke like that, oh yeah i was 16 when that came out etc....fucking funny. I guess Satchel knew someone too lmao
JD Hoov lmao
Yeah i absolutely love mine, you cant always trust these RUclips videos but what you hear is exactly what you get. Bravo Yamaha!!!
Honest to god all joking aside (and Satchel is fucking hilarious) this is the video that made me buy the amp. When he hit the EVH tones & did pick scraps & shit. Bitchin' just absolutely bitchin'. Best $300 bucks I ever spent. Extra glad now that the THR10 X is discontinued.
his bending and phrasing are next level
Satchel YOUR EXCELENT GUITAR Player... You also give good lessons.. You guys are a great Band...
Dude just busts out the Eruption tapping part PERFECTLY. We all learned it, but never to that level. He hit it with perfect tempo and left hand tone. Not many people realize he has a degree in guitar. Like a straight up college degree. He knows what he’s doing
Totally. I just said, " I'm the one" is the test.. most people fuck it up, or are incapable of grokking that riff.. Satchel is currently my favorite guitarist.. peace 🤘🤘💀
This guy grew on me. i used to think this guys just trying to be a funny asshole but he actually one and a pretty good guitar player
"Pretty good"?....The guy is fucking amazing. He plays so clean. Just a great guitarist. Period.
blackblurable He defiently isnt to be underestimated! Smoking hot.
This is really the sound you get with! Great little amp, I got one and this is really awesome! I still cant believe it!!!
Satchel is a guitar legend
the camera guy trying not to laugh when satchel said he was 32 when eruption came out XD i cracked
I too bought a Yamaha THR10X because of this video. Love it!
Bought this amp a month ago. Its A KILLER, not only it sounds like a dream but u can literally record an entire track with it.
+John Smith you just Do It! Don't let your dreams be dreams
Its an Epihpone electar15 that sounds like 2 dying cats having sex
Best and funniest demo for this amp.
Plenty of guys will post equipment reviews that turn into watching them shred for five minutes.
Satchel will make you watch him shred for ten minutes and have you laughing the whole time.
I could watch Satchel videos all day.
AC/DC !!!!!! Gotta love Satchel for mentioning them, they're the Gods Of Rock :D
Satchel and Steel Panther hell yeah ! Hope I can see them live one day :D
OK, the hair is a wig. It allows him a normal life outside the SP gig. He was a student of Paul Gilbert and, if I remember, went to G.I.T. Steel Panther is a "gag" group. VERY talented musicians doing a parody of the '80's metal scene and the joke is running ALL THE TIME. If he is Satchel, he is "in character". His real name is Russ Parish. Great Player!!!
Do people really need this explaining to them? xD... Damn.
Vanadeo
Yeah, it appears from a lot of the comments below, they don't get it or they haven't chcked himout too closely. I'm pretty impressed by the amp too!
crusTodd
The "gag" schtick gets a little tiring afetr a while, but these guys are REALLY talented.
he is great with Kevin Gilbert.
***** It would seem so! At least if they have any natural talent and motivation. That's what make PG unique: Killa' player, Killa' teacher!
Been watching Satchel vids for the last few days and he’s becoming my favorite rockstar lol he’s a riot
Actually bought this amp after seeing this video
So how is it in real life, i'm thinking about ordering one and i'm too lazy to go to a store to see it for myself
It is absolutely aswesome. The sound and effects are really good
Niejnah For what it is so far it sounds phenomenal!
I just did now, it'll be WAAY better than the direct nonsense I attempt through my bass amp w/ distortion currently.
What amp is this?
You're hearing a little bit of the string noise from the lapel mic clipped to his strap, you're right - but it's mixed down about 10db when he's playing. The reverb's the 'spring' reverb from the amp. There's no intention to fool people - THR's recorded direct on almost all of the videos on this channel, but some do have a little spill from open mics because switching from direct guitar to ambient interview feels quite strange. If you want the video with no ambient, I'll happily post it...
Cool of you to address this.
He is so comical that you literally end up laughing through the video .. and great playing... He could almost write the the 'Guide to being a Hair-Metal Rocker'
It's so funny that somePeople still don't understand He's in character. Dude canPlay with the best of them too.
This Yamaha sounds f$cking good!!! Tiny metal box full of pain and fury.
I heard Satchel playing Back in Black, stopped the vid, learned the song, came back to finish the vid. I love how Satchel brings my inspirations back.
Am I the only one noticing in 5:35, that he´s actually playing the Gangbang At The Old Folks Home riff, and this was posted in 2012! :D
No your not! :) I think are a couple other interviews where he plays that riff as well. Who knew it would be on All You Can Eat!
That album came out 5 years ago? Time flies.
What a killer sounding little amp.
Satchel IS a bad-ass guitarist, no doubt! Also, this guy makes me laugh my ass off! His sense of humor is top-fucking-notch! This is why it would be awesome to just be around him. He's as cool as anyone needs to be! Fucking awesome! Thank you, Satchel!
Satchel Rules. The Greatest Guitar player .Actor period!!
As many have noticed........ despite all the fun...... Satchel is a rather good guitarist.... keep on making the faces Satchel :) and keep on rocking in the free world!
5:37 Gangbang At The Old Folks Home...That riff had been kicking around for a while then!
What an incredible tone, Satchel, being himself as always... Cant´ get cooler than that guy.!
I definitely agree about Malcolm being a great guitar player with one of the best stage presence that doesn't get the recognition he deserves
Seriously, one of the better guitar players on the planet today, even if you don’t get the guy’s act with Steele Panther, the guy definitely knows his shit
This amp is brilliant,he has it on the spring reverb setting here and either brown 1 or 2 the Vh setting.
It was recorded over USB to Cubase AI - no extra processing, FX or EQ.
Clicked on this to check out the amp and I don’t know who Satchel is, but I’m pissing myself, that’s the funniest and best review I’ve seen in ages!
It's settled. Satchel has convinced me that I need SPANDEX to become a better guitar player.
Loved it! Sold on the new Yamaha THR30II. I will this one as well. Thank you for posting this.
Russ + wig = Nigel Tufnel on steroids...lol.
Great stuff as always, "Satchel."
Glad to see you finally enjoying the success you deserve....and having a shitload of fun, bro.
Make no mistake he's playing through the amp but he has great technique that's the difference for those saying "my Yamaha doesn't sound like this"
It's Satchel. There's no need to stress that it's (explicit) - we already knew before clicking this video and we fucking love it.
2:50-3:16 = mind blown
EVH Jr haha
It's actually so easy tho
el chompo ok

This guy fuckin rocks, I've seen the Panther live twice now and they've totally blown me away... If y'aint seen 'em live ya need to! The Yamaha sounds awesome too. \m/
Not sure if people know but Satchel used to teach guitar lessons before he became big.
That tapping part of eruption was perfect!
Such an awesome solo
He was the guitarist in FIGHT so he's def no slouch
He was also in a VH tribute band called the Atomic Punks with MIchael Starr (singer of Steel Panther). They are synonymous for being one of the best VH tribute bands around. He knows his shit.
I have the THR10.. And its awesome as well.... Yamaha hit a homerun with this amp!!!!
Satchel is a great musician- always doing it cool techniques in his riffs and solos.
What an awesome amp demonstration!
I laughed most of the way through.
Best fucking vibrato in the business
Wat was the first riff he played??
I have that amp and the same color. It’s a beast! Love it
28 in 1980?!? !LMAO! his jokes are on point. He looks youthful for 64 year old senior citizen.
And 32 in 1978
+A Val He's actually 45 :'D
***** Yes this is true but he plays his gimmick in Steel Panther perfect it's hilarious.
Loving the tones from this amp. It's all about vibrato kids...!
This video made me get a THR10 amp! (I originally wanted the 10X but the local shops in Northern Ireland don't sell it..)
Got the THR10, it's amazing and this video made me a Satchel fan&Steel Panther fan, now probably my favourite player
Highly recommend the THR's
I spit out my beer when he said "Play is slow? No, I _can't_ play it slow!" 🤘🤣
That would be great! Its hard to believe how big and full it sounds! Awesome!
I dont even have a guitar..lol...these videos are just awesome to watch.. so entertaining.
AC/DC as the first influence! i like him even more
VH 1 came out 1978. Satchel says he was 32 back then. He is 66 yrs old in 2012.
Epic!
comedian or not, the guitar playing is as good as it gets on this planet.... love hearing him play :)
Stumbled on this video. This dude is hilarious! And and incredible guitar player.
Loved the more things change reference
If you want to really hear this little unit rock, look here on youtube under "Dark Side of the Sun" with David Merlin and Mike Erwin. We did all guitars and bass with the unit. It really rocks in the studio. I was AMAZED!
Dude is hilarious, and a damn good guitarist.
I didn't appreciate this bloke when I thought he was being serious. He just takes the piss out of everything he does, that's good. I wish they would give us the settings for these riffs he's playing.
I'd love to see Satchel's settings throughout this demo just like Soren Andersen shared his settings during his demo.
Satchel is just brilliant !!
"That's gonna get a bunch of dudes standing around you looking at you" LOL!
Shit! so much talent in one guy.
That boy good! He really is an amazing guitar player
Such an awesome player he is... Licks, vibratos, riffs... Everything is awesome.... Gifted guitar player... Horns up fuckin satchel\m/
he s so good i love this man
Van Halen I : released in 1978; he says he was "32"
Back in Black: released in 1980; he says he was "28"
WTF?? LOL
TOO FUNNY!!!!!
Yes, Russ/Satchel rocks!!!!! Check out his work on the first Fight (Rob Halford) CD.
I also have the THR10X...and yes, this amp kicks ass.
It sounds just like this video!!!!
He played Gang bang at the old folks home at 5:35!!
That tapping part he did from Eruption is the best I have ever heard it played. That sounded as though it were Eddie right off the record! Damn!
Some Paul Gilbert wisdom slipping through there with the guitar faces. 9:45 so funny XD
This guy is awesome. Great player and funny too.
He actually taught alongside Paul Gilbert at GIT. He's a certified instructor. Was in Fight, with Rob Halford. Dude is a killer guitarist. But the Satchel persona is hilarious. Totally sold me on this amp. Cause it's bitchin'.
Lmfao!!!' Russ is the funniest guy in the biz, besides being an extremely talented player. Kudos for a hilarious review of an awesome little amp.
Holy shit, that mini-amp sounds fucking perfect.
Most underrated Guitarplayer nowadays!
Wowowow satchel súper guitarist ! And great amo sound by the way !
Totally bitchin - the skill, the hair (& the layering!), the 'tude. Love it all ❤
Great guitarist and all round nice guy...
