I remember some old Calico ad where a navy SEAL-looking dude came out of the water shooting a full auto 9mm version. Its so cute how confident they were that the military would like these goofy things. Still, I'd own one for the sheer novelty.
Ian from Forgotten Weapons actually had some amazing performance with the Calico, especially when you take into account the fact that it has a rather undeserved reputation for being unreliable. It's not a crap weapon, just way too complicated.
Not to mention it was the beginning of a concept, like people don't understand how hard it is to have reliable magazines especially with that much weight behind it *100rnds* so as I believe Ian said if the 90's gun bill hadn't happened its likely that they would have kept working on it with more models and improved it

According to gun Jesus, winding the magazine exactly 23 times, no more, no less, as instructed by the manufacturer, greatly improves reliability. That, and cleaning it regularly. As in every 3 mag loads or so. I know chances are extremely slim you'll actually read this, Brandon. But I thought I'd throw it out there none the less.
The Calico is great. As long as you take care of it. And know how to count. And since Brandon is known for *AKs* I don;t have great hopes for it remaining functional.
I met the head designer of the Calico, the magazine was his genius, he lives in Austin. The gun was so far ahead of its time, but that was long ago. I will forward this to him to see if he wants to watch and comment. Do not forget they also made a 9mm.
I used to work for Calico when they were in Bakersfield, CA. I worked there from '85 to early '87 & only stopped due to pregnancy. Warren Stockton & Mike Miller were great bosses. They always greeted everyone one of us employees with a big smile & took time in their day to talk to us as they were walking & checking to make sure all was going well. I loved that job. 😊 I gifted one of these to my dad for his birthday. I requested the serial number to match his bday. I was so excited when I was told my rifle was next & I did my part to get it assembled. My dad loved it & was touched when I told him to look at the serial number. He, too, said it was odd looking, but liked how lightweight it was. Great memories came up as I watched this video.

I had one of those as a teenager back in the 80's. After getting my driver's license, I ended up trading it to a friend for a Ford F250. Funny thing is he still has it today. Mine ran like crap when I first bought it. After a trip back to Calico for warranty work, it ran very reliably with anything I stuffed the mag with.
The “skittle storage” is typically used for storing any small keys/wrenches or mini tools for adjusting some sights/scopes, possibly used for extra battery storage for tac-lights/lasers. However with this gun I don’t see a rail to even add cool stuff to

The first time I remember seeing the Calico was in a little known movie staring someone you might have heard of Dolph Lundgren called "I Come in Peace" in the 90's.
I knew a guy who owned one and that miserable 50 round rotary magazine would jam consistently every 3-4 rounds! He offered it to me for about 20% of what he paid for it. I turned him down so he took it and ran over it with his 5 ton truck........LOL!
Ian has a regular Calico, and he tested how long he could shoot it without cleaning before it stopped working from gunk or parts breaking. It lasted longer than he thought, but the extractor was the achilles heel, and the replacement part broke pretty much immediately. The Calico rifle and pistol were also featured in the 1990 Total Recall movie.
2:50 Not only was the Calico prominently used in Spaceballs, but it actually appeared in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace as the blaster rifles used by the Naboo Guard.
Its also a signature weapon of Kiritusugu Emiya in the anime Fate/Zero... Which is why I was super sad when I found out it was effectively a paperweight most of the time...

If I remember correctly from the original Delta Force game in something like 1998, the Calico was notable for being the only gun you could fire underwater.
It is unusual looking for sure. However, compared to the AK's you often have around, it is a work of art. What's more, the Calico is in chambered for a round with at least some usefulness. Overall, it is clear that you have moved up in the world, Brandon.
I actually own a m-100 and the m16 likeness is actually a conversion kit , it’s originally a pistol as the muzzle sits about 5 inches in front of your hand (about 3 inches in front of the trigger guard) and does not have a stock

There's also the M110, which is like the M100, but without the stock and foregrip, making it quite a large handgun. Finding a case for it was annoying, had to use a laptop-spec case.

I have the pistol version in 9mm, with a 50&100rd magazines. The magazine has a number on it telling you EXACTLY HOW MANY times to wind it! If you do it the way you’re supposed to it functions flawlessly

I have the pistol version in 9mm, with a 50&100rd magazines. The magazine has a number on it telling you EXACTLY HOW MANY times to wind it! If you do it the way you’re supposed to it functions flawlessly
I grew up in Bakersfield where Calico was built. The shop looked like a crack house. Very innovative. I had the pistol and carbine in 9mm. Too bad they both got stolen in a robbery in 1997.
