The HI-Point is an awesome alternative to this pistol. It's half the price and double the weight so it will hurt a heck of a lot more when you are forced to hurl it at the threat.
If Hi-point would charge $10 more and have their mags made by Mec Gar, they would suffer far fewer malfunctions. That said, there are plenty of sub-$250 options that are better.
I know that "if it can't shoot steel, it doesn't deserve brass." But would it work with brass cased ammo? I challenge you to rebuild the barrel with proper headspace and leaving out the ports and integrally suppress it...or you could just finish the AK-50. Either one would be cool.
@@luketimmer6108 might actually do better with steel, they’re usually cowboy loads so it shouldn’t have as much chamber pressure, and yeah steel won’t deform as much as brass so it should be better in that regard too. He should check the velocity with steel also so that we know how much it loses, not that any of us want it, but rather a morbid curiosity. If he wants to re build it I wouldn’t integrally suppress it, but he can get the head spacing right and leave out the ports. Then maybe it might be able to handle the brass. The light striking is probably due to it not being spaced right, if that was fixed, it’d probably work better.
I've never been as uncomfortable seeing a person holding a knife as I was watching Brandon hold a knife and I've been robbed at knife point. I really want those knifes now.
The storage compartment in the grip is to be filled with lead weights. That way, when you get completely frustrated with the POS, you can throw it at someone really hard and it will have a bit more weight to it and thus; possibly make them say "ouch" before killing you. However, filling the tactical grip storage mechanism with Skittles is also a good idea. M&Ms are not suggested do to the high potential of them melting. No one wants to see that mess.
Brandon, the reason the gun failed your self-defense scenario was that you were not properly prepared. You should have had the hammer ready, so if the gun locked closed, you could hit them with the hammer.
I think it's interesting how Brandon hates a $300, nearly dysfunctional, and most likely dangerous IED disguised as a pistol. Meanwhile Matt is hating on a $100-ish, thiccc LVL 1 pistol, that seems to even be bullet proof and maybe runs as well as an AK. It's all just so funny.
dylan snyder I dunno but based on Matt’s videos, he may have just gotten some godly hi points that run forever. Besides, one hi point jams, ya still got bout 2 more for the same price as this ied
@@dylansnyder3464 I'll be honest, I have a Glock 19 and a S&W 40, I bought a High Point 40 after Matt's video on it just to see about it. I have put about 1,000 or more rounds through it so far. I have never once had it Malfuction. Not the prettiest gun by any means but damn if it is not reliable.
Brandon this is a great product! You can open carry it, that way if an attacker grabs it they have garbage and you've still got your real EDC in your jacket (or wherever you keep your concealed firearms)
Basically a modern day FP-Liberator pistol from WW2. Those where cheaply made, terrible trigger, and one had one shot (although you could actually carry extra .45 ACP in the grip. If the head spacing was correct and you could actually hold a couple rounds in the grip, it would be great for arming rebels forces. Pretty sure the reason it won’t break open is that extra spacing is allowing the case to move back and expand some. Really surprised it didn’t blow up. But it us easy to conceal and get ammo, just walk up to the guy with a “real” gun and kill him and take his gun.
Holy shit I just remembered one thing: while that grip compartment doesn't take 7.62x39, it does take other smaller (pistol) cartridges because you can actually swap the barrel on that. For example a barrel that accepts .410 shotgun shells exists
Nah, it's all just flash and noise. The first google result I could find looking for chrono numbers claimed it threw a standard 123gr FMJ at ~900fps. Assuming that's accurate, a 9mm of comparable size and weight would kick harder than that.
@@kelbyschultz1877 they are ok with some modification required. Mine failed to feed if there was anything more than 5 rounds in the mag. Made some modifications to the feed lips and it runs great now. I only have it because I like crappy things.
@@kelbyschultz1877 I've held and fired a couple of different hi-points, they really don't feel right in your hand. And both of the ones that I have fired had major feeding issues... although my favorite failure was a failure to fire coupled with a failure to eject... So glad I had hallow points in there on that one, I think an FMJ might have managed to set off the round out of battery with the nose of the next round. It was not a nice pistol to fire.
@@kelbyschultz1877 Other than being heavy (straight blowback) and blocky (no budget for machining sexy curves), Hi-point looks like a pretty good firearm.
Let's be honest here, this gun is extremely innovative. It's the first gun with a skittles container, personally I would prefer to store tic tac's. But that is amazing. And at the same time is an awesome paperweight.
I did the math and the muzzle energy would be around 393 ft/lbs. around the same as a standard 9mm shot from the same barrel length. Even if this gun worked perfectly, it would still be inferior to a 9mm handgun.
Those were hit or miss - mostly miss but I picked up one new from an auction for $70 & as long as I use decent ammo (no lead nose bulk pack) it runs without issues using the bx25 mag. It was an impulse buy, but it's fun to look at & someday will probably be worth some $ because of how crappy most were, nobody keeps them...
@@Stevarooni no instead you run the risk of shooting yourself in the hand with the zip, which i guess is the lesser of the 2 poisons as its probably the hand you don't shoot with that gets injured (not to mention the pocket ak potentially throwing shrapnel at you) XD
We had one of these show up at our local shop. The customer complained about everything as stated here. We checked chamber dimensions and the one we had wouldn't accept a field gauge but did accept a no go. Took it to the range, found it failed all the way around with steel case ammo. Light strikes, requiring multiple trigger pulls to fire. Needed a tool to open the barrel, and a cleaning rod to remove the spent case. Switched to Fiocchi brass ammo, and it was a night and day change. Fired on first trigger pull, opened without a tool, though was stiff, and did extract the brass all but 2 times without the cleaning rod. Still would not trust it.
It certainly wouldn't be the worst idea ever if it was actually executed on properly, just a huge waste of unburnt gunpowder. Inch and a half longer barrel, fix the nightmarish head spacing, make the grip properly fit human hands and hold 3 spare rounds, fix the catch so it doesn't get stuck, give the spring enough oomph to fully kick a spent round out, and then it should be a pretty good armor puncher, basically a modern version of the old "Nazi Puncher" we air dropped thousands of into Italy during the Nazi Occupation in WW2.
@@KiraSlith We actually never dropped any of the Liberator pistols. The European undergrounds had better gear already, and MacArthur didn't trust the idea of giving them to the Filipinos.
The three trigger pulls per shot is kinda like the “clapper” for detonating claymore mines - “are you sure?... are you really sure?... okay, here goes...”
This is the gun of my dreams. Literally, like the guns I have in my dreams when I'm trying to shoot something, but the trigger pull is really hard and it either won't fire or has no muzzle energy.
it's a crack rock storage ... also... the gun is actually brilliant. because of random light strikes it teaches you not to flinch when you pull the trigger. brilliant i tell ya
This "firearm" is really for those people that like the idea of muzzle-loading blackpowder shooting without the hassle and expense of muzzle-loading blackpowder shooting. ; )
I have a Bond Arms derringer in .45LC/410 that can take 3" 410 shells. It's slim, made of stainless steel, and will not blow up. A 410 slug or defender round (with the little brass disks inside) kicks like a .357, but I have two shots that will be devastating at short range.
@@polygondwanaland8390 about the same price on a good day depending on the model, but generally you'll get 2 magazines and an actual functional firearm.
The light strike makes sense considering the round sits so far forward of the firing pin. Basically the frame of the gun is taking a harder strike than the primer.
Most torture test videos on it best ones being iraqveteran8888's trifecta and demolition ranch himself has even stated he likes their carbine. (Almost everyone does though)

I challenge you to rebuild the barrel with proper headspace and leaving out the ports and integrally suppress it...or you could just finish the AK-50. Either one would be cool.
Probably not.
Excellent challenge😂🤣😂🤣👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾👍🏾
Could it have been designed to shoot steel case? Im not well versed on how a steel case deforms but wouldn't it be less than brass?

I prefer KitKats. It’s imperative not to fire the gun to prevent the melting issue but it isn’t any fun to fire so no issues there.
