I have a 85v65magna I bought new in 86 I have 72.000 miles on it and still ride it all the time. Every thing you say on your test ride video is what I think every time I ride it, awesome video I loved it 👍
I had one and used to piss off 70% of sports bikes that had a hard time catching me in a straight line they were always surprised. #1 Sleeper bike of all time.
I have been riding since 1977 and never ONCE have ever heard someone call a V65 Magna a sleeper bike !!! This was one of the fastest bikes in the world in the mid 80's !
I daily an 83 vf45 magna and I love it. It's such a good time. The thing will easily cruise at 90 and I've got it up to 125 on route 66 in Arizona this spring when we road tripped 1900 miles in 4 days. It can hang with my buddies 2018 Harley just fine. I got stopped at multiple gas stations with old timers telling that they had one back in the day. Good times
My dad had a Magna in the early 80's, burgundy. I used to ride with him in front on the tank to go up north. He said we'd always stop at the same store on the way to pick up milk, Cocoa Krispies and peanut butter. Mom would come up later on in the Camaro. I fondly remember watching the Zilwaukee bridge being built over Saginaw (Michigan) on our ride up I-75 and burning my leg on the pipe when trying to get off it one time when I was big enough to ride on the back. Dad told me there were some days he would have to take the bike to work in the middle of winter, driving very slow with his legs out to the side to keep himself steady (we lived in the middle of Flint at the time). He still has an old Magna belt buckle laying around somewhere and I think I saw a key for it once. I look back on it now and wish he had never sold it. I currently drive a '22 Honda Super Cub, but if I ever upgrade, I might look at one of these :D
The cops where I was from had the v65 magnas and they used my friend and I on our 750 sportbikes in the late 80s. We were scared of them because they were so FAST in the city and we'd always have a terrifying experience losing them. On the freeway though, we'd lose them without much difficulty because of maneuverability and top speed. I really wish that I had one of those magnas today. Badass cruiser, they accelerated just as fast as our top of the line 750 sportbikes of the era.
Yup you got it just like I did, the magna fever. Magna's when they initially came out were the fastest production bikes in their classes in the world. Tough to sell it isn't it??? Hope you enjoy it and stay safe riding!!!!
My first "big" bike. Rode it from Charleston NC to Kansas City. You need to take that thing through the mountains. You can lay it clear down to the foot pegs and it will pop right back up! I pegged the speedometer at 160mph out on a long stretch of hwy. Amazing machine!
I had a 750 in 1986...in France....remembering going on the cobble stone on the champ elysee....lifting the front on acceleration...bloody dangerous but fun....and I was proud to own it.....memories with a big smile
I owned one for a while. It is a crazy fast bike. And was a good cruiser. Drove it across Canada and the U.S and it was so smooth. Then I got it smashed up when a car jetted out from a store. Fixed it up but it needed a new frame so I just sold it but when I owned it it was the best motorcycle I've ever owned.
It does have a fuel pump - I have experienced the 40yr beast this last year I started with a v45magna than I bought this 83 v65 forr $600 yes its impossible not to smile when just about nothing is as fast as this on the roads - Nice video well done !!
Had one in the late 80’s through mid 90’s. Beast of a bike. Comfortable for 800 mile road trips and fast as hell. Bought it with 2500 miles on it and sold it with close to 60k on the clock. No issues other than batteries and tires. Thought the clutch went out once. When I tore it down turned out to be a conical spring. $1.65 from the dealer. Miss that bike.
4:55 Honda He;ix 250 ! One of THE most loved scooters of all time. I own two big bikes, have owned all the Honda Interceptors in the 90's, and my Honda Elite 250 gets more conversation than any bike, although that was a Helix, THE most coveted scooter in history.
My 40 year old '85 V65 pulled 125 mph on the freeway last month, like it was still new. Guy in an '88 Vette said, "Nice bike, dude!" I've been through master cylinders, a complete exhaust repair, shocks, and front brakes. Gets about 40mpg, still.
The trick to keeping those hoses soft (As someone with a OEM 88 Magna), Come winter time, coat that bike in WD-40. Avoid your brakes obviously, but coat it top to bottom and put a painter tarp over it. No bs, mine looks brand new still and will back it. The carb removal is a PIA no doubt, but otherwise the bike isn't too bad to work on. Its finding parts that will break ya.
You can also boil them in pure peppermint oil for about 15-20 minutes, just make sure you do it outside and don't inhale it you can burn out you sinuses.
Bike looks great dude! I've got a '95 RC43 Magna (rare here in the UK) and I love it but I am envious of the extra power of that version, and the shaft drive, six speed and centre stand. Seems like a more complete package.
Hey that 3rd gen magna is a sick bike! What it doesn’t have in features it definitely seems to make up for in reliability and simplicity. I love my 98 🤙🏻
Tyler I'm surprised you forgot to say it's Shaft drive, never changed chain and sprockets even with 120 BHP on tap! Mine has 130k Miles on it!(it's been very hard to work on, Saber by the way!)Lou, EU
I had an 84. I really missed that bike. But it was so hard to keep it maintained if anything happened to it. They really need to revised one and bring it back on the market. V-4 motors were a power house.
I had a V30 not that long after my first bike.. It was a joy to ride, so comfortable and so smooth! It actually had a nice bit of power, nothing crazy but just enough to keep you going so to speak! I hadn't noticed such a bad issue with the tank slappers or speed wobbles such as the bigger ones like this V65 where many had to fit some kind of steering damper to get the bike safe and stable. Braking from any kind of speed on these big magna is said to lead to these insane speed wobbles, which is the reason I held off on buying one of the bigger magna, though I really did consider just getting one anyway! Coolest looking bike, just lacking on the front end mostly from what I can tell.. I'm thinking that because the fork stanchions aren't that thick and possibly the geometry like the rake and trail of steerer column could have something to do with this instability?
@@SteveHuebner-o6z I think I read something about steering dampeners for magna to stop the wobble either in a product recall/update or somewhere, and I am sure I saw one on a Sabre when a friend of mine bought a used one many years ago. Tank slappers/speed wobbles can be scary, terrifying even.. I would def try one if I had one of the bigger manga or sabre
Bought a running and driving 85 VF700 for $700 a few years ago. Only thing I've had to do to it is regular maintenance and fix the leaky valve covers. Thing is mechanically perfect and runs like a top.
@cjwynn69 I believe the 700 Magna was only designated by Honda as the VF700C, it was only garnered the nickname "V42" by enthusiasts who wanted to keep the continuity of the bikes' cubic inch displacement nomenclature. I always refer to mine as a 700. But yes you are correct.
I watched you getting this bike back on the road. I know you love it. These machines are way over engineered ( in a good way though, like a fine German Machine. ) From a guy who owned an early Magna for ten years …. Don’t sell it !!! Trust Me, you will regret it. You will not get what it is worth to your soul. I still pine for my Magna.
I had an 1983 v65 , back in the day , it had like 45,000 km so it lost a little power but it would still pull up to 250 kph or almost 150 mph in 5 th gear , od wouldn’t pull it , so my friend bought a brand new 1985 v65 magna , and he got it up to 162,mph in OD with his girlfriend on the back , wheelies were fun , we were crazy back then ,
even the vf700c's ran quite well after carb work.but still couldnt touch the v65 in raw power. even the little vf500c were good running little bikes for their time.
Hi, I got the 750 Super Magna in 2000 from France. It is so nice, only problem is single disc up front, drum at the back. It is already quite fast but I wish I had the V65... You should should keep it, the money you are going to get is not worth it. You have suchan amazing bike and it can show it stop light to many current bikes. I bought a new CBX in 1979 and sold it 1981 (yes I am that old!!!). I wish I had kept it. I testes a S1000R, faster, brakes harder, but still not CBX feel. I also have a 2007 R1200GS, worsr unreliable POS I ever had, nice to ride ... when not broken down, and don't get me started on BMW company. Give me Honda people anyday.
So many wrecks with those over powered death traps back when. Frames would actually flex and weaken due to the excess power and sometimes would fail while in use.
just got one of these for free at work. it was sitting out back of the shop for 15 years or something. it's pretty sunbaked but i want to get it running again and set it up as an adventure bike but keep all of the original hard to find pieces. i saw one in a forum done up that way, taller and on some dirt worthy rubbers. anyone got any advice?
They’re complicated compared to “normal” street bikes. It’ll take some time to test and clean everything but the engine is fantastic. Your main first task will be getting the fuel system straightened out. If you are not comfortable pulling all the carbs apart you can just take the assembly out and send it to a guy called MagnAndy on the v4 muscle bike forum. Good luck!
Suzuki came out with a bike for two years called the Madura in g700 model and g1200 model I have the 700 model it’s a V4 cylinder engine and it just eats the road.
I sold her to a local guy in NC, he has since completely puffed it up to its former glory, he also added a bunch of accessories and an oil cooler mod. Really cool guy
I stopped watching it early when you passed on a double yellow line. You give all motorcyclests a bad name. That's why a lot of motorists hate us - and we have to deal with that. I have an 83, yes it's powerful and fast but that's what makes it so smooth at normal safe speeds. I imagine you rev the engine too for no reason at all. You can't ride like this. Bullshit
Great choice of handle bars

You should drag race the V65 Magna against other modern cruisers or even any other.
What handle bars are those?
1:00 does anyone know what makes the front end wobble like that, because my honda shadow does the same thing
Needs steering bearings I believe. They’re usually pretty cheap I like the “All Balls” brand
@@TylerChaseMotors Thank you
Can confirm. I had the same wobble on my V65 Magna. I did the all balls tapered steering bearings and it tracks straight and solid now.
Can also be uneven fluid level in front forks and wheel balance

That front end head shake will get you into a tank slapper. Killer bad. You need to find out what the problem is and get it fixed.
Maybe a little steering head work could eliminate that wobble?

Wabble is probably tire I'd keep it under 100.
Yes they were even faster new.
I had the 1983 Honda magna V-65 I bought it brand new in 1983 I'm 68 years old now back then I 3,698 dollars for it brand new
"$12 is the new $3 btw" it's funny but sad cuz it's true
A 98 isn't a v4 is why it's so different
The 98 Magna is a 748.8cc 90 degree V4
There was a VT250 Magna that’s a V-Twin, but the VF750C was a V4
Fix that wobble
Totally differant bike than gen 3
Is it slower?
