John, this video will truly help new users, great job! I've had Hubitat and 3 of these locks since March, and it was BRUTAL in the beginning, the frustration these locks caused me and other users until we discovered the Aeotec 6 addition, Many don't think this is necessary as the locks didn't have this issue on my Smartthings or Vera, but unfortunately the Zwave radio in the C-5 hubs put out a weaker signal than the radios in Smartthings, Wink, and Vera, but this is really only noticeable on "Secure" paired devices like Locks/Garage Door openers.
I literally spent over a month straight completely resetting my hub multiple times and rebuilding my zwave network multiple times diagnosing, troubleshooting and fixing this issue. Not being able to pair in place like I could on the other platforms drove me crazy. I have a few recommendations to add for your users to consider (I hope you don't mind, I will delete if it's out of line, just say so)
    1. Make sure under your "settings" "zwave details" page up at the top right where it says "secure/join" this is set to "Locks/Garage Doors" and NOT ALL Secure Z-wave (one of my rebuilds I tried this and pairing ALL devices securely INCLUDING the Aeotec Range Extender 6's and it worked so-so for about a day then the same issues arose and actually even had devices completely disappear from the network) After rebuilding back again and back to Locks/Garage Doors all is perfect, and with the Aeotecs I'm able to pair in place over 50ft away outside on a metal building. The Aeotec Range Extender 6's once paired should randomly blink "green" NOT blue (blue is paired securely)
    2. Another good tip is during the inclusion of the Schlage Lock, it is a really good idea to have a separate browser tab open to the "logs" page, and make sure the lock completes the configure process, and by make sure I mean WAIT until all 30 lock codes are "fetched" in the logs BEFORE doing anything else on the hub (sometimes this can take a minute or two), sometimes other device traffic can interrupt this process. After it's successful, under your Device Details page the "State Variables" should say "fetch Code: 30" and "codeFetchComplete 1" If it does not then you need to click the "get codes" tab, and re-verify the logs.
    3. Last any code (including the 2 default codes) that are programmed into the lock directly, Lock Code Manage will not be able to read or identify those codes, they will appear as ???? on your lock's device page. If you want to use a specific code to trigger a rule machine rule it must be programmed through the Lock Code Manager or the Locks device page NOT the lock itself. I myself deleted the 2 default and programmed all through LCM.
Sorry for the long windedness, but with the literal amount of time I spent on this issue I felt the need (like yourself with this helpful video) in preventing others from experiencing my agony.....Again GREAT JOB!

Thank you very much for your videos, they are extremely helpful.
Now with Wink going the subscription route (not to mention the lost the partnership with Chamberlain), I decided to move to Hubitat (today 5/14/2020). Even tough, I consider myself a tech savvy person, this is a brand new territory.
Now that I have been playing and messing around with Hubitat, Indeed, this little machine is way more powerful than Wink. All these features and more detailed controls makes me wonder why I didn't move to Hubitat before.
Anyways, thank you and keep up the good work!

I bought the Aeotech extenders but was still having issues with failed lock code setting. There is a critical piece of info that I believe is required that isn't in your video. I am nowhere near the expertise of you of course but this cured all of my issues. Hubitat or Schlage does not accept code change length commands via the Hubitat hub. So unless you change the code length manually on the lock if you try and add codes longer than the default length of 4 they will always fail. This is not a ZWave mesh strength issue.
Once I changed the code length requirements on the lock manually everything worked perfectly every time.
This will either be useful info for people or if you tell me I have something wrong I will delete my comment to stop the spread of bad info :-)
PS videos are still awesome, thanks.

I was the same way since they first arrived. I purchased their first hub as soon as they came out. And than returned it a week later just because I couldn't get a smart bulb to be turned on when I turned on/off a Zooz Z-wave wall switch in a separate fixture. I had actually converted 50% of my SmartThings setup since this passed weekend. The new operating system and the Rule Machine 4.0 are so much better. Don't get me wrong, but Hubitat still needs to grow. But for me, I am about ready to go 100% Hubitat and Unplug my SmartThings for good!

Ok, so at little update. My lock was failing to respond after a few hour break in testing. this was identified as a failure to setup lock codes ("failed"). But this had worked well previously. I deleted all failed jobs and also deleted all previously added users. I then stopped using 8 digit codes and used 4 digit. So at first i used only 4 digit codes. It's only when I went to setup 8 digit user codes that the programing stopped working, 4-digit seems to work ok. So all is well again.... (For now?).

another tidbit about theese locks you may want to add, if you are still having trouble pairing even with the aeotech extenders you may need to disconnect the lock from the door and bring it to within 5-6 inches of the hub. i had to do that with one of my 4 locks so that i would get status updates from the lock. i have an aeotech withinn 3 feet of the lock but it just wouldnt work to do the initial pairing(actually have 4 aeotech repeaters for theese locks). now that its back in place on the door with the aeotech within reach it works flawlessly

The Hubitat hub is now a model C-7 hub which has the 700 series Z-Wave chip, upgraded from the 500 series in the C-5. When I checked Aeotec and Amazon for the Range Extender 6 that you mentioned, it's now been superceded by the Range Extender 7, which is to support the 7000 series Z-Wave chip. Having said that, would it be accurate to say that we should be getting the Range Extender 7 instead of the 6, if we are starting with Hubitat Hub (C-7) and have Schlage locks? I'm coming from SmartThings (v2 hub). Thanks and love your videos/tutorials!

The range extenders become a normal part of the mesh network (just like any other Z-Wave device). However they are better as repeating signals. I put together an article about Range Extenders that helps clear a lot of the issues up. You can check it out here. bit.ly/301GXft
