    Got to love the rumble of a 7.3

    I had a '97 F250 4x4 7.3 for 22 years. Unladen norm was a consistent 18MPG / 15-16MPG climbing elevation / 22-25MPG descending elevation.

    I special ordered my 2000 F350 with a 6 sp manual and 7.3 PS in 2000 for $26K. Its a 4X4 XLT not Lariat and I had 5" straight exhaust, chipped and a Garret Power Master turbo and cold air swapped. Love the truck and with the 6 SP trans I easy get 20+ mpg, but usually pulling trailers.

      I found a nice 99 F 250 7.3 4x4 super cab short bed last November. l drive rural, no city and no highway, I consistently get 17 mpg on the button. I am easy on the gas pedal 75% of the time, cruise in the 60 mph zone. The occasional stomp on the gas just because it is damn fun to hear that roar bellowing out of the 4 inch exhaust. Hope you find a nice one 👍

    I have a 2003 7.3 f250 xlt, I did some mpg testing and found that if you keep the tac at or below 1800 rpm, I get 19 mpg but if I go 70 mph it drops to 16mpg. and found out that on the oil dipstick keep it about 3/16" to 1/4" below the full mark it gets 20mpg, I wish I had bought the lariat with the mpg gauge!

    Charlie, would love to see more old cars tested, see if the other staff at daily motor are willing to donate their cars. I knew someone 20 years ago that had the 99 f series with the v10, and said he averaged 9mpg. So under this test that would get about 13mpg highway.

    MPH is everything in these trucks for MPG. I never run faster than the line between 65 and 70 in my 2003 7.3 and I always get 17.5MPG in my F350. I commute 250 miles around DC on I95 each week and always refill around 16-17 gallons in a 40 gallon tank.

    Just got done with a 400 mile trip in a 99 F250 ext cab 2wd w/ 326k.
    Mostly 60-65 mph driving, mixed with stop and go for a while and some 70-75mph.
    Managed to get right between 21-23mpg average. Only burned 8 -8.5 gallons of fuel for the 187 miles up there first.
    I run hotshot EDT at every fill up, I believe it helps these monsters quite a bit.

  • @buddyg5584
    @buddyg5584 Месяц назад

    I could be wrong about this but I think all the 2 wheel drive super duty trucks had the 38 gallon fuel tank and the 29 gallon was in the 4X4 trucks because the transfer case and front driveshaft took up space and a 38 gallon tank wouldn't fit

  • @TheWoodButcher86
    @TheWoodButcher86 9 месяцев назад +2

    I'd say if you take off the topper, cruised at 65mph and used an additive in your fuel/oil. You would be at 20mpg pretty easily. If not a headwind or anything.

    • @TheWoodButcher86
      @TheWoodButcher86 8 месяцев назад

      @rustyshackleford7265 toppers actually decrease mpg, and tailgates don't really create drag actually. I have seen a few other videos on people experimenting mpg with and without toppers on.

    • @AkioWasRight
      @AkioWasRight Год назад +2

      The 7.3L has no DPF, SCR, no complex emissions systems, nothing. Some had cats, but that isn't a big deal. Basically, as long as it doesn't smoke and isn't modified, it will pass any emissions test.
