I owned an 01 F350 SD Lariat 4×4 in 2004. I was 25, and I sacrificed so much to own that stupid truck. I didn't need it, had absolutely no use for a Super Duty and very very little use for a 4×4. It was status. At work everyone was jealous and that is why I got it. Never would have admitted that back then. Probably not even to myself. After 2 years of giving up all of my spare cash to own that thing i finally gave up and sold it, and used the money i would've spent on 2 truck payments to buy a whole ass 96 Civic DX coupe in cash. My quality of life went through the roof, and i felt rich all of a sudden now that I didn't have to pay for that truck and full coverage insurance on it. And fuel for it. That was a hard lesson learned, and I'm glad i learned it fairly early in life.
European kid here, Im 20 and I got a nice hyundai sedan. I always loved this type of trucks as a kid since my father had 2 or so when I was little. More than once I thought about getting one, but in Europe its even more expensive to have one of these. With the price of gas and the price of parts and second hand trucks... I really cant afford one of those at all. I'll stick to being a truck driver tho, getting my license soon for those big machines 👍

My father put on a matte black color on and now it really looks like an uncercover police car with fully tinted windows. Owning this car is just amazing and would never sell even it is like 16-17 years old car, it's a tank. MPG is from 12 to 18 liters per 100km but it's worth it knowing you can easily survive a crash if it happnes. Weight, about 2300 kg in SUV vs normal European car in a crash or similar, I would put money on Touareg easily. It can be pain in the ass sometimes because of the maintenance, fuel and etc but again, would go on a world cross adventure in this car no problem. Enough to said that the Touareg towed a 747 JET which is like 200 ton plane. Perfect combination of everything, luxury inside and rugged outside. Ideal of trips, adventures, overlanding and off roading. Not hardcore off road but it took me to places where even people on foot would have problems. Planning to make a handmade bullbar up front and putting hook on back for that extra saftey and I have a tyre also on the back. Overall great car based on that I am located in Europe. Mine has 113 xxx km on dash and that is quite rare. Checked that on Carvertical and like 3 official VW mechanics and all of them told me the millage is original and I am very happy about that. 🤙

An excursion 7.3 turbo diesel. I want something that can basically do everything and if rarely for a big truck it could get a very good gas mileage and is stupidly reliable
When I was in high school I rode in a 1997 Ford Econoline (I don't remember if it was an E-350 or a 450) cutaway school bus (Fleet ID # 927607) with a Corbeil body The bus was a Laidlaw owned bus (Before they got bought out by First Student) Anyway it had the PowerStroke Diesel 7.3l engine (AKA T444E) how I loved the sound of that engine even over my music of my portable CD player. The sound was pure bliss especially when I got a driver with a heavy foot!
That exterior design has aged incredibly well. The interior, not so much. That being said, this would be an excellent truck for a contractor / tradesman / Home Depot warrior.
They had started to really cheapen the materials used by this time in vehicle making. The engine is pretty bulletproof, but the interior.... not so much. I much prefer interiors from the 80's.

we used to have an 02 7.3 with a banks tune, and could run on fry oil. i loved that truck, we've had it since i was a little kid. the smells, and the sounds this truck makes will forever be in my memory connected to so many trips and experiences. i love that truck, and i got to drive it but one time. it was slow and ponderous, but i liked it a lot. i want one of these trucks.

But I hold onto it for that old school Powerstroke. It’s a fun experience to drive when everything is okay. It was my urban camper when I drove over 300 miles per week to school and back.

As another comment said, adjusted for inflation this truck was $67,000 and now a similar turbo diesel F-350 STRIPPED is $77k.... Similarly equipped it jacks it up to $89,000 Thats a $22k price increase on top of inflation adjustment for a weaker, less reliable, lower quality truck
Curious if it’s bone stock? I have a bone stock 99 with leaky up pipes and I believe it affects the fuel mileage by a good 1mpg maybe more at higher boost.

Not a 1999. Because that all chrome front grill only came out in 2005 and up Ford Super duty trucks. The 7.3 diesel is an amazing engine pulls like no other.

Same with me. I’m 27 and 2 years ago I used all my money to buy a C8 Corvette. Felt like it wasn’t worth it anymore, and sold the car last week.

Motor is stock outside of an aftermarket air filter. Mine is leaking diesel from the fuel lines and water separator.
