- I had a truck that needed work done to his pick up and he asked about doing the "hutch" mod and harpoon mod. So I made a video showing the mods and also included the way we did it years ago without reinstalling the pick up. Parts needed. 3/8 5/16 unions. 1 foot 3/8 2 feet 5/16 line.
I'd like to thank whomever is continuing to maintain Ron's site. He created a fountain of information and it still being available is a huge benefit to those of us with the 7.3 engines. I just bought my 2000 F250 HD about 7 months ago and had no idea this was more an archive than an active site. The information will be pertinent for as long as the 7.3 engines are in service. May Ron rest in peace. He created something very worthwhile!
Second time I've watched this vid since I'm now, finally, getting around to doing this. So sad that we won't be getting any more of Ron's great videos. RIP, many prayers for the family.
I guess Im asking the wrong place but does anyone know a way to log back into an instagram account??
I stupidly lost my account password. I would appreciate any tricks you can give me
@Royal Hamza instablaster =)
@Scott Jeremy thanks for your reply. I got to the site on google and im waiting for the hacking stuff now.
I see it takes a while so I will reply here later when my account password hopefully is recovered.
@Scott Jeremy it worked and I actually got access to my account again. Im so happy:D
Thanks so much you saved my account :D
@Royal Hamza glad I could help =)
2022 and I keep watching the same videos, it never gets old! Thanks for all the info Ron we miss you!!
Just a note to anyone bending tubing, if you'll fill it with sand blasting sand, are real fine playground sand, the tubing will bend as if on mandrel pipe bender. This prevents any restrictions from crimping your tubing down on your bends, thus giving full flow of whatever your lines have moving through them. Yes even the hard brake line as he was using in second option, with tubing from supply house.. Just blow it out with your air hose, and flush with brake cleaner good couple times. RIP DTR
I’m having to do this to my first diesel truck wish I would have found Rons channel a while back really hate that he passed away but that’s the beauty of Technology and love how his help and videos are still benefiting everyone around the world
Never met Ron but I sure did watch a lot of his videos. What a great teacher he was. It’s ashame we lost him. Condolences to his family.
Still helping people even though your no longer with us.Thank you Sir...RIP
RIP Ronald. Thank you to the people continuing to help Ron, help us.
Wow I'm very sorry and heart broken to hear that ( R.I.P Ron ) and thank you for being here for us !!!
God bless your soul Ron..Rest in peace buddy.. Thanks for all the help....
To me its a good mod for contamination like algae. Its soft and should not damage the pump but will leave you stranded. Of course the correct answer is get rid of the contamination and don't allow any to enter. Most guys are installing an external filter before the pump to protect it. If you're not sure then install the filter in line.
Ron was a great mechanic and his videos are among the very best! Rest In Peace, Ron!
What a wealth of knowledge. Even though he's maintenancing powerstroke engine's in heaven, his videos teach us here on earth.
Thank you Ron. I did the fuel filter replacement today with the harpoon. RIP and God Bless I used a 8'' c clamp from harbor freight to get the fuel tank cap off..worked great.
RIP RON
Good idea using the c-clamp...RIP Ron
Did you have a problem getting it back on? I can’t get the thing threaded back on.
@@moneymac2864 4 ft waves? Lol
Ron i just found you. Didnt know you were teaching from beyond the grave and am grateful.
I hope you're rolling coal in a sooped up 7.3 with the tank always on full in heaven or whatever
Federal law requires a 10% dead air space to allow for expansion. I have seen aftermarket tanks with no tube. This is only a problem if you fill the tank all the way and then park the truck. If you fill it all the way and then drive long distance, there is no chance of expansion causing a problem. Also, diesel fuel doesn't have the evaporative profile of gasoline.
I am as of today new to 7.3 liter engine, so I’m seeking quality information. Thank you Ron, Rest In Peace
Thanks so much for keeping Rons vidios up and running he has helped me so much understanding my 6.0. i know he is missed so much by so many .
Man I miss this guy 😢
You are certainly missed Ron! Thank you for all your knowledge you shared
Thank you Ron rip, I am a diesel mechanic now and definitely give you some of that credit
If the problem is consistent with your gauge you can remove your sensor and monitor the signal while you lift the lever up and down. If its real random, by far the most common cause is the sender.
Great mod will be doing this....
But on a more important note.... Thank you Ron for your video what an amazing person RIP I hope you are enjoying heaven my friend... We all look forward to meeting you up there.
LOVE from Australia
I did this to my 2001 Ford F250 7.3 over a year ago thanks to Ron, and absolutely no more fuel supply issues 👍👍
Great guy with a lot knowledge i have learn a lot watching his videos ,I Consider him one of my mentor when is about powerstroke engines , we need more people like him the world would be different
Rip DTR and Thank you for helping me keep my truck on the road!
Rest In Peace Ron. Hope you’re working on God 7.3 Powerstroke in heaven.
My condolences to the family. Thank you for maintaining the website. He’s been a tremendous help to me May. God bless y’all real good
AWESOME in tank mod, my truck ran amazing for 600 miles! Then the new fuel pump died on me at the campground. My only guess is contamination, I'll be running a pre-pump filter from now on. But the truck has never run better, smoother, quieter, or as powerful by splitting the fuel lines in the tank! New pump on her again with a pre filter and we will see how long this on lasts.
Michael Dyess you can up the fuel pressure with a return line regulator from stock pressure 45-50 to 70 psi for better performance. just install in the return line and adjust to 70 psi at idle.
Michael Dyess What pre-pump filter system did you install? Thanks
@@JpBerger3 🙀 and the plot thickens

fox news 🤣
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! you officially saved the day and my july 4th weekend!!!! please dont stop making videos, you do an extremely good job explaining the problem, excellent video. thank you!!!!!
Wow, I have heard the Harpoon mod before, and didn't quite understand it. Now I do! Thanks brother, you have sweet videos. Can't be to different then on my 6.7.
Great video, wish we had techs like you around Jersey.
I’m about to do this to my truck the old school way seems much simpler and easier to do. I’ll be going with that method. Thank you Ron rip
after watching this video, I'm considering doing MY hutch mod the way Ron did HIS......the old school way.....eliminating the pickup screen, and running the copper tube along the bottom of the tank....no risk of the plastic "foot" breaking, and actually requires less components.....
same here, I'll be doing this tonight. less issues in the future and nothing to break off later in the tank.
NIce, Ron continues to provide service to PSD guys wrenching on them themselves!
I just did the hutch and harpoon mod on my 99 plus a new fuel pump. BANG feels like a new truck! Ron ur a 7.3 god. Thanks
How's it holding up and how did it affect your power and fuel economy?
Did you use copper? Some people said to use aluminum
if you did the efuel pump mod and the fuel bowl delete mod install an inline pre filter screen and remove the in tank screen, a large capacity inline screen prefilter screwed to the pump makes life easier and makes the flow better with far less restrictions
harpooning a gas tank might be dangerous because it needs room to vapor expand, should be fine on diesel since the fuel works a bit differently and has a different vapor point
The copper tubing might prevent algae growth.
up here in canada there is NO FREAKING WAY fuel lines and or the pick up's retaining nuts or plate will come out that easy! holy fuck sometimes 10 min to get one apart! gotta love rust!
Great great great !!! RIP Diesel Master
Damn diesel fish, the only bait that works on them is fuel filters and you never really know you have caught one till its too late.
just bought my first 1995 ford F-350 power stroker and can't wait to start working on it!
If you pull the rear hanger and let it hang there is enough room to pull the sending unit
yeahh your right.. if your like sniffing dust.. then keep filter. go mostly to party, take away the filter
Perfect. I couldn't have asked for a better video
great video i have my 99 done today ...thanks ron
Added this one to my favorites. I have a 7.3 with an aftermarket steel 46 gal tank. When it hits empty, I still have about 12-15 gallons left according to what I put in it. Might be the fact that the filler tube extends too far into the tank or the sender doesn't hit the bottom. Great vid
I put an Airdog on my 7.3....works like a champ.
Thanks for posting Ron, I'm about to drop, clean and mod my tanks.
Best video I've seen!
don't use copper if you ever let truck sit / fuel sit in the lines for more than a few days, it thickens and will ruin injectors over time
RIP, Ron...
Thank u Ron. U the best!
Thank you
Wherever you are
Still trying to fix this truck
Air in fuel
Rip Ron god bless
Thank you Tech Ron
Hey Ron, if our tank has slight contamination will this mod be ok? I'm taking it that the fuel filter at the top of the motor will be sufficient?
If you have contamination it should be cleaned out. Fuel is normally filtered before it leaves the pump. I ran mine over a hundred thousand miles this way and there are thousands out there for over a decade doing this. If you are unsure install another filter. I never did but maybe I'm wrong.
Very good my frend
on the return I took a copper tube and I bent it to go towards the float and that fix it and it's the easiest fix around
Good video thank you
Good Ron Good Ron!!! thanks for Vid!!!
Question Ron, My 02 has had fuel gauge issues since I first got it and I have yet to figure out the root cause on my own.
What "Appears" to be happening is as if the float is sticking/hanging up on something at random, and as a result gives quite unreliable readings, do you have any Recommendations on fixing the problem?
(FYI where i live we have been frequently having severe problems with contaminated fuel)
Instead of a union fitting and hard line ,,could I just clamp of fuel line and run it down far enough to bend when hitting the bottom of the tank ?
I accidentally added gas to my F750 SuperDutyDeisel engine drill truck and had engine running until the engine stalled out. Any suggestions for cleaning of tank , replacement of filters, or anything else I might need to do in order to save the engine of my work truck I make a living with? Please help and thank you.
Hi Ron, I would like to know the name of the tool used to open the fuel cap? where can i get it? thanks
Elkin Galvis use an 8" c clamp
What’s that yellow tube inside the tank.
Thank you
My 2000 f250 7.3. It's not marking my fuel. It stuck on full. Is it true to fix th3 level. I need to replace th3 whole fuel pump?
Ron do you also cut the vent tube as well? I notice you are using brake lines will the diesel fuel eat the coating from those lines?
Scott Hotchkiss no
Hello Ron how are you ? great video and good info. do you sell a pre made for a 1995 ford f-250 diesel 2 tank system ????
pictureman63 he's not ignoring you, ron passed away from a car crash.
So i want to do this and i want to do the one Ron did on his truck (old school way) i just need to know how long does the cooper pipe gas to be? And what size union fittings did he use? If anyone can help me I'll appreciate it
Hi just to now. For the firt mod.
How long need to be where the 90¤ bend is
And how long the tube is
Tks
I need to do that to my 99. I know it's never been out
As I can correct excess diesel in the engine oil crankcase. 6.4 ford 2010, help me please
I have a question for you if you want to see if you can help me with a very big mistake I made,!?? Please help!
🙏🙏🙏
So when you did your version of it did you put on the black funnel thing an why is it bent 90*
Ben Bertreaux this one is broken
I hope Ron is working on Jesus Christ 7.3!!
I have a problem like that lack of power, rough idling I'll do that on the weekend
Juan Franco is
Yes
Thanks Ron, I have a 2003 F450 6.0 Diesel and was wondering if my truck has the pickup screens, my sending unit is screwed done to the tank, it looks a bit differ than yours.
Ron is dead and yes your truck has the little filters.
What is the little red pease
Are these mod procedures the same for a 2000 Excursion 7.3L PSD?
Of course...
+Christopher Knight Also the same for the '03-'05 6.0
So is there a fuel pump inside of the tank?
My truck is a 2001 7.3
No, no pump in the tank. On your truck the pump is mounted of the inside of the frame rail.
@@318dodgeN350camaro ....there is NO fuel pump inside the tank....
What size are the tubes?
RON PASSED AWAY?
What’s the tool used to remove sending unit at 1:36
it's a cap tool specifically for this application.....not necessary....just use a small length of wood and tap the ribs counterclockwise......
So if those pre filter screens were getting plugged up from algae and you remove them won’t the filter on top of the engine now get plugged up from the algae? It would make sense to me to put a easy to change canister filter somewhere under the truck before it goes to the filter on top of the engine. Any thoughts on this. I know Ron passed, but if anyone else would like to comment please do. I’m looking at doing this to my 7.3 in the next few weeks.
I would say its much more common to pre filter the pump now. If you look at any E-fuel kit for an OBS 7.3 they pre filter the pump
so just change the filter on top of the engine more often....it's a 5 min job
my plan is to do this ( no screen) , with a fass water and air filter with a 244gph lift pump. the remove the check valve in both the fuel inlet at the bowl and the valve at the bowl filter tube .... should flow alllll the fuel ill need for a medium performing 7.3 in my welding truck. i would recommend the hp oil cross over line with the rifraff high flow banjo bolts.
id do all the mods including "the fuel tank delete mod"
Its like having an endless fuel supply
do you sell kits to do this mod?

that bend looked like shit
I think i might just be low on fuel and at an angle in the driveway... I fucking hope so
Hello there, can you make me one of these fuel sending unit ? i will pay cash. please reply thank you
Coy Jordan he passed away bub. don't think he's gonna reply
Wow, so very sorry to hear of his passing. can i ask how he passed ?
car crash.
I can
Thank you

6.4 , selllll it now. They made 4 million of those and 10 years later only 500k are still on the road!!!!! They die. Get a 7.3.
As I can correct excess diesel in the engine oil crankcase. 6.4 ford 2010, help me please
Replace your injectors.
@@markusgarvey it's a 6.4, replace the pickup
4 million made and 9 years later, 500k left on the road
@@galehess6676 Shorter: JUNK. You would think ford would have their act together with engines...Like the Triton...Great name, crappy engine. The best diesel they ever made, was not even made by them. All the manufactures are going with extreme high pressure fuel injection on gas and Diesel. They might be getting better efficiency. but how my times can you push fuel through a tiny hole at 20k psi before you start having issues. Make injector tips out of Platinum and they will still erode at that pressure. and cost an arm and 2 legs to replace
