    Man, this is awesome Doug. This video is creating somewhat of a buzz from the comments.
    It is a combination of old and new. As many have said that this is one of the best made fountain pens in the world. Of course the more you would do these conversions the easier the process. I think you've stumbled on to a new side hustle. I for one would be interested in a pen like this and pricing. Sure would like to get my hands on an authentic Doug - 51!

    Jinhao 10s turned up . Very impressed with build quality. Fine nib not too scratchy but a medium would be better. Hopefully Jinhao will offer a medium with gold insets later.

      If this pen is as popular as I expect it will be, we'll see a medium nib soon.

    Excellent adaptation Doug. I bet you can now clean the feed and breather tube with a bulb syringe?
    Yes, please do more conversions

      Yes indeed! I presented it to Ron this afternoon. It will be easy for him to use and clean.

    Really cool! There are so many vintage fountain pens that were well built. I would like to see even more kits to convert these classics to cartridge/converter filling systems.

    How fascinating and delightful that a filling system can be converted! 😊
    You are truly brilliant! 🥰

    Hi Doug. Thanks for another great video. I like the conversation idea! The Aerometric was never my favorite. I would be interested in a Converted 51 Aerometric, especially with a 14 kt gold fine point nib! Great job!

    I really enjoy those videos, it's amazing how fountain pens can be maintained and modded even after decades, needless to say but great work as always.

    In general the Parker 45's/51's and their brothers and sisters and nephews never intrigued me, because of the simple design, I always felt it was a sin to follow the beautiful Vac's with such a simple design, but with this model and its beautifully plated metal cap, Parker has made up for lost ground. At least for me. And this converter is fantastic.

    fascinating conversion! I recently came across my dad's old Parker 51. I wish I knew what years this beautiful pen was made. Honestly, I uncapped this pen which I never saw in my house ( I'm circa 1958) and it wrote perfectly! the ink seemed faded but WOWZA!

    Parker 51 "Ex-ometric"? I got a 51 that was a total disaster, took it all apart, with considerable trepidation, and under the white metal on what I thought was aluminum, the base was brass-colored. The press bar was rotated under what was left of the sac, and the whole shebang was oxidized white and greenish, very ugly. I don't remember seeing a breather tube anywhere, and the hood doesn't stay in place over the nib assembly. But I showed it to one of my local pen repair pros, and he declared it ok, but suggested a bit of adhesive to secure the hood. I'll wait. Dare I fill this living dead pen? and what won't damage the rubber sac? Your resurrection of the beautiful p51 is an eye opener. Thanks, Doug.

      Oooo I like that Judy! Can I appropriate that name "Parker 51 Ex-ometric"!!

    That was such an awesome resurrection, and a wonderful thing to do for a friend Doug!! I really don't have a problem with Aerometrics, per se, but since that is my least favorite filling system, I've been avoiding getting any. Now if the right 51 Aerometric came along and you converted it, I'd be the first to beat a path to the front of the line to acquire it from you!!

    I would definitely be interested in a first gen P51 with a cartridge/converter. I share your sentiments about the cleaning process; I have 3 aerometric sets sitting in the drawer that I don’t use much because I just don’t want to have to deal with cleaning them out if they’re not a daily writer 🙁

    Great video Doug! I may have to give this a try sometime, I rarely use my Parker 51, mostly because the aerometric filler is among my least favourite filling mechanisms.

    A needle?!? What, no guitar string? I am appalled! 🤣🤣
    Might be worth cutting the breather tube at 45 degrees in case there are any surface tension issues with the ink as it will offer a larger surface area.

    Thanks for a most interesting show, Doug. Aerometric fillers don't vex me at all, but have you ever considered substituting a Wing Sung 601 pump filler for the original vacumatic mechanism of the "'51" ? Cheers from the Land of Oz.

    Does this work for the "Demi" as well? I would also like to convert mine.

  • @JohnD357
    @JohnD357 16 дней назад +1

    That converter didn't work with an early 1949 Aerometric. The threads on the barrel must be different than the threads on later Aerometrics. The barrel would only screw on half way.

      I mentioned the two different versions in the video. The one I put in the pen only works with P51 Aerometrics from the 1950s.

  • @jorge23483
    @jorge23483 20 дней назад +1

    Maybe I'm wrong but... Did this conversion just make it compatible with more than one kind of cartridge brand? I mean, the breather tube is very thin so it can pierce other cartridges like Standard International too.🤔
    Thank you for the video.

    • @InkquiringMinds
      @InkquiringMinds  20 дней назад +1

      No. It will only be compatible with Parker cartridges and converters.

    I have several models of 21s.
