I promise you, you won’t hear a better version than this. The amount of work he put into learning and perfecting these symphony transcription is unparalleled
Not only that, Katsaris actually adds a significant amount of notes in each symphony to make these transcriptions even more textured and challenging than the originals! He’s a once in a lifetime musician
Can only imagine the surprise on Beethoven’s face if he were to hear someone playing his symphonies like THIS! Magnificent playing from maestro Katsaris as usual
I think the Liszt piano transcriptions of the Beethoven Symphonies as played by Mr. Katsaris are even more inspiring than the original symphonic form. The lines and ideas are much more clearly delineated.
It's crazy, even though they show his hands there you gotta watch at 0.25 speed to very slightly see the scale gesture mixed in with the rest. Perfect "sleight of fingers", to be sure!
@@pianista-mediocre i thought you were talking about that, and the rumour of him selling his soul to the devil, i just wasnt sure if you really believed that he wouldnt go to heaven.
Cyprian, I first heard a piano version of Symphony 3 about 55 years ago and was fascinated by the setting. Your work brings MUCH joy in listening. Two qualities I particularly enjoy are your flawless playing with such wonderful interpretation, and your bringing out some symphonic lines which are often covered up in an orchestral presentation. Bravo, and thank you. I return often to listen to your recordings. Best regards! Tom in Chattanooga, TN
I recommend to everyone to also listen to Beethoven's First. Audio-only with score. WOW. A symphony in Mozartian style equal or even better than the Jupiter Symphony. What an entre for Beethoven !!
Also, played by the legendary Mr. Katsaris. I started listening to it at 2am in bed and I could not stop until finished. A real page-turner and sleep burner.
This is not an easy piece but the real difficulty is in the inner voicing. I own the complete set that CK did for Teldec and it is a revelation. He turned me on to LvB's 8th, a symphony I didn't really think much of until I heard what it was made up of via his recording. He brought out things that many excellent conductors failed to do.
9:00 Glenn Gould? 9:27 le crescendo! 2:40 art du contrepoint! 8:00 Beethoven lui-même au piano. Impérieuse grandeur! Même la coiffure et l’expression faciale y sont.

#3 and #6 translate to solo piano the best.
How does he do the "flute" at 3:55? No one else I've heard so far does anything close!
one of best moments of piano playing in the world
I fond it too!!!

Isn't it just octave scales in the right hand...? If so it's impressive of course but not a big deal for a pianist of his calibre!
@@mach210000 it's about how he manages to fit all of the other voices in and still add the flute part
3:50 my favorite
Absolute banger ❤❤❤
Beethoven and Liszt are giving a standing ovation in Heaven because you understand.

Not only incredible playing but the greatest and most generous ambassador of piano music in this world. Liszt is proud of you, dear Cyprien!

His voicing is incredible! You can tell he has immersed himself in the study of these pieces (the symphonic originals also). Breathtaking pianism!🔥🔥🔥

@@victoza9232 its to make it sound more close to the original symphonic work because liszt left some things out
