A few quick things: The Spider Devil never really got a chance to do anything strong. She fought some zombies, got sent to Hell, and fought one of the literal strongest characters in the verse. Then she died. So basically, she never really got a chance to show off her true strength. Devil's fear only increased their base strength. The effect and potency of their ability remains the same regardless. This is why the Muscle Devil and the Skin Devil can have pretty hax abilities despite not being physically strong at all. Additionally, all Devils increase in strength according to the overall fear of Devils. The fear of Devils isn't entirely based on just phobias, but fear in general. (Other strong emotions also count, but it's mostly fear) For example, I can count on one hand the amount of people who are deathly afraid of katanas, but imagine someone sprinting at you with a katana at full speed with murderous intent. It's not just overall fear, but potential fear. That's why the Weapons are so powerful, because they all revolve around the same fear of being severely injured. Building off of the last one, the Chainsaw Devil is the strongest Weapon because he doesn't just represent the fear of getting maimed by a chainsaw, (again, not kanayaphobia, but the potential of getting hurt by one) but also the extremely loud noise caused by them, their association with horror villains, and the general idea of deforestation and possibly even climate change. The Weapons are the only Hybrids we've seen, but that doesn't mean there couldn't be other Hybrids out there. Maybe the fact that they're already based off of human things makes them easiest for things like the USSR to use. Throughout CSM, most Devils are quite weak, maybe comparable to the largest apex predators of our world. Even the strongest ones are no more of a threat than small natural disasters. The Gun Devil didn't even exist until the late 20th century, and no Devil besides a Primal Fear comes anywhere close to them, and the Primal Fears have never left Hell anyways. Even more so, Contracts have always been a thing. There has always been a way for more friendly Devils to grant humans a small amount of their power to protect themselves, the only thing is that in the modern day, only Public Safety can (legally) make Contracts for the same reason that only they can use guns, since if anybody was allowed to make Contracts, there could be bad apples that cause chaos and make the malevolent Devils stronger. Fictional characters most likely can't become Devils. I guess it depends on if it's fiction for the sake of entertainment or religious mythology. Someone like Thanos wouldn't be a Devil, but a satyr probably would. As for individual people, they can't become Devils since a single human can't embody a concept. NAZIs? That's a concept. Jackie Chan? Not a concept. Asa/Yoru is just a Fiend with highly intact brain, so Asa and Yoru can take turns controlling the body.
To add to the spider devil part, she was being controlled by makima the whole time so she might have been intentionally weakened in order to fit in with the fiends
Fictional characters and people could definitely become devils. If i made a thanos figure and made a bunch of thanos horror movies and started a thanos worshipping cult, we could make it work fr. When you talk about how "Feared" a devil is... How do you measure fear? Through total amount of fear, or percentage of fear? Would Makima be stronger or weaker when slavery existed? Slavery would make her feared by a higher percentage of people But, there would be billions less people to fear her. Was it ever said asa/yoru were a fiend? If yes, link source please I want to see.
@@snekksuperior ob regards to the last part, it hasn't been confirmed officially as far as I know but it's pretty much the in-between of hybrid and fiend although leaning more on the latter than the former Think of a fiend as a forced contract, if the devil allows more of their power to remain on the vessel they might gain the memories or personality of what inhabited it, that's why the violence devil has so many of his host's memories but needs his power to be suppressed at all times, it also explains why power, a devil who's fiend form retains little to nothing from her host save for her appearance, has so little power In exchange for asa to have full control of yoru's powers yoru can inhabit asa's body
Something interesting, which may explain some of the plot holes, is the potential that devils may also get stronger if feared by other devils, hence resulting in devils with specific powers becoming strong by rampaging in hell, and becoming feared by other devils, this could apply to Pochita, the death devil, the primordial fears, etc. Additionally, the fear of wild animals and other organisms that aren't human may be included in the fear factor as well. I cannot confirm any of this though, so it's just an idea.
no , the idea of a devil getting stronger by being feared by other devils is confirmed in the manga and is the given reason for why pochita is so strong , so idk wtf was that segment of the video on about
One thing that I think explains why Pochita is so strong is due to the feedback loop you where talking about. He just isn't getting the fear from humans, but from other devils. It's mentioned that the sound that most devils remember as the last thing from their past lives is the sound of chainsaws, so I feel like that give the theory some backing.
I have a 3 personal theories that might explain the spider devil being weak. Makima said the imagery of getting ran over would make the car devil formidable but Maby it’s because that imagery is of you getting killed or affected. Maby people’s fear of spiders doesn’t involve getting killed by them, we’re instinctively afraid even from the non venomous ones, so there for that reason since you don’t have an imagery of them killing just an imagery of you getting instinctively freaked out by them scurrying around instead of them killing you, therefore the spider devil doesn’t get better at killing when more people fear it it just gets better and better at, you know scurrying around when more people fear it. Theory 2 is that Makima weakened it, the fact that it’s so submissive and Has a portal zipper which I theorize was it being cut in half and made a contract it’ll survive and get brought back by the idk teleporting zipper devil if it submits to makima therefore she deprives it of blood so it doesn’t get it’s strength back and rebel against her. Potential explanation 3 is it’s not weak at all and just busted it can solo goku, we’ve only seen it fight either a bunch of zombies or the darkness devil. Therefore it’s busted and can solo top tiers but ended up with the Jogo treatment and never got to prove it.
@@niggasmoker89 Maybe though the fear of the unknown is not only instinctual and kinda busted, the fear of spiders at worst is it pouncing at you which you can see coming the fear of the unknown can literally be anything our imagination comes up with so the darkness devil has a lot of verity, we understand what a spider is so that fear could just be instinctual, we don’t understand or know what the fear of the unknown is if we’re in the dark we might hear someone scream and that won’t only be instinctual fear but our imagination that builds upon that since we can imagine a high verity of stuff happening to us after that because we can’t perceive what’s gonna happen.
Chainsaws were originally used for childbirth. But it is also associated with horror and violent death(Also they were used for amputations). So the Chainsaw is both closely related to Death and Birth and gets a power that allows him to remove devils from the cycle of death and rebirth
I like your theory it makes alotta sense. What I wanna call into question is how is Pochita immortal? His ability is a little too powerful to come from those concepts as most people don't fear the cycle of life and death as a concept, also that would make the Death Devil directly above Pochita in hierarchy and always stronger than him. I really wonder how many bases is Pochita covering to get such an op ability.
@@keithdavy7346we know that devils can get stronger from eating other devils, the fish devil in part one was stronger than it should have been because it ate a bit of the gun devil, himeno says so directly. Pochitas whole thing is eating people, and another thing we learned is that devils with more human appearances are friendlier to humans. Pochita does NOT look human, meaning he should have been agro but he choice to befriend denji. He didn’t even force denji into a contract, they just became homies. This makes me think that Pochita maybe befriended a stronger devil in hell and the devil willingly let itself get eaten in order to boost Pochita into the “hero of hell”. Would also make sense with how eating and consuming is seen as an act of love or acceptance in the series
To me it always made sense that the hybrid devils were all weapons, because weapons in real life are really only something to fear because of other humans. There’s probably a tendency for those types of devils to do that for that reason, although considering Pochita there may also be some sort of emotional attachment there too.
For the weapon devil thing it could be explained that since weapons are man made and used by humans that they are more attracted to hybrid contracts than other devils and that it’s just something ingrained into them without them even knowing it or realizing it
@@zeronamenata4757yes and this makes sense if I was making a contract with a devil best believe I’m going for the gun, knife, sword, or any other weapon as opposed to making one with the fricken wrench devil
The death devil being the strongest does fit the theme of the story ie the four horsemen with death being the most feared one of all. Since all devils aim to kill humans rather than make them suffer as much as they can, it makes sense why characters in the universe may fear death more than suffering. I'd love to see a suffering devil tho Also i found ur channel like 2 days ago and i gotta say keep cooking bro 🔥
But death isn’t the end of life. It is stated in the manga by Makima that there were other things that happened when we died but chainsawman ate those concepts. Death isn’t always scary because death is merely an end to a start, eastern philosophy tends to lean this way. Being erased, forgotten, reduced to nothing is farrrr worse than death
I think if Fujimoto DOES try to pull the "he's not actually the chainsaw devil" twist it might be that Pochita is actually the "forgotten" devil and secretly the TRUE most powerful devil because the only thing scarier than dying is having no one remember you even existed in the first place
7:56 The fears include from the devils too I guess And actually I heard of other negative emotions can also counts into how strong a devil can be. About the Death devil, people can fear about other people's death. It's not only from those are facing death itself. Lastly the hybrid contracts, I think it make sense. I mean they're tools, so they can exists while having physically without a consciousness.
Outside of your death devil point which I think is a massive stretch, (death is definitely the most widespread fear among humans), yeah you brought up some good points. You could argue the spider devil was weakened and not at full potential due to Makima and then fought one of the like 5 strongest devils ever in the darkness devil
i think this video is very well made and brings up really good points, but i gotta say i think reasonable theories exist for most of them: my biggest stretch is that i think the reason the chainsaw devil is so feared is because humans don't really fear it: devils do. we know that they actively hunted devils in hell, and we know devils have fears, so it's pretty reasonable to conclude that those fears feed into other devils. So if they just kept throwing themselves at devils, they'd get more and more feared, and the idea that specifically chainsaws scare devils so much could lead to the powers it gets. again big stretch but it's my best bet the fear of death being the most powerful, even in our own world is a reasonable claim, but in universe it gets even worse. we know for a proven fact that there IS an afterlife, but it's ONLY hell. dying would be a lot less comforting if it means you get sent to the place where all of humanities fears live. the weapon devils could be that weapons are more feared when wielded? like regardless of your fear of swords, someone armed with a sword is scarier then one sitting on a stand. spiders would be significantly weaker if they were getting kill stolen by devils humanities past could be a lot better if it was hard for devils to gain fear? like, tomatoes aren't scary already, but if they're only growing in a certain region then even less people would be scared of them. that's not even touching the higher birth rates of today leading to more people scared i think these are all loose theories, and i do think these all constitute valid plot holes, but it's fun to theory craft answers to them
The fearing devils thing is not a stretch, don't worry about that. It is literally confirmed in the manga in chapter 89 page 12 where makima says "devil's fear gave you power. I have humans eating that power right now." A good portion of the chainsaw devil's strength is derived from the fear generated by other devils.
I think the author of the video failed to address the idea that people’s memories and knowledge are extremely questionable in this series, given that memories have shown to be altered/erased
Good Point about the Death Devil Part, but I feel like that would just make the suffering/pain devil even more feared, people would be more worried about the suffering part of it than the dying part
The angel devil before draining somebodies life force says something along the lines of “don’t worry you’re going to heaven anyway” so unless I’m missing something I think heaven exists too
One thing to note, is that the devils strength is based on the location. The Japanese supposedly thing spiders are cute, so the spider fiend is friendly as a result.
SPOILERS: Chainsaw Man being that powerful actually makes a lot of sense. Why? Because devils strength isn’t based only on humanity’s fear, but also devil’s fear and probably every living beings fear. So, the chainsaw devil initially was born from humanity’s fear of chainsaws, hence having powers related to chainsaws. But, he slowly became way more powerful by being one of the most murderous devil in hell. By constantly killing a lot of devils, some of them started following him like a cult, but most devils started being incredibly terrified of him. By being the most feared devil by devils, he gained the ability to erase their name, cementing the fact that he is devil’s most fearsome ennemy and killer. This all may seem like speculation, but it’s been stated by Makima that he is the most feared devil in hell. Also, multiple devils such has the eternity know about chainsaw devil and also remembers the sound of chainsaws just before they have died in their last life, meaning that chainsaw devil has killed so many devils so many times in hell, the fear of him is now ingrained into their soul, like he was himself a primal fear but for devils.
True, like some of the plot holes have already explained by few details in the Manga. To be honest, i feel like this video is kinda a joke video to me. lol
For the death devil case, I have a theory about why it's the strongest. You could say the suffering devil would be the strongest devil since it's feared more than death and I totally agree with it. However, we need to look into the concept of suffering. It's the process that exist in all human to tell them "hey you're in danger" which if the process continue, it could lead to death eventually. We could say it's a kind of concept related to death itself which is more irrelevant comparing to the concept of death. I'm not saying that suffering is totally irrelevant but people often recognize the concept of death more than the concept of suffering. For example, if you ask people randomly about what they fear the most, the results will probably be in favor of the fear of death and not the fear of suffering. Also you could say that people often fear of the concept they never met before. Obviously, once in your life, you should've already felt the pain and suffering which mean you kinda have EXPERIENCED the concept which lowered the fear you have to it unlike death which is happen in constant and also the concept that's semi-incomprehensible. You might have some idea about what'll happen when you die but you'll never know exactly what'll happen until you met the death itself. This ofc we're talking pretending that humanity don't know about the hell/afterlife in csm. In case you know about the hell, I think the suffering devil should take the lead here since you have already understand the concept of death which practically removed majority of the fear we have to it. Now it'll only left with suffering and pain which even though it can be understood, you'll eventually need to experience it over and over again in the hell which will definitely increase the fear we have to it. in the end, personally, i think tatsuki just use the name "death devil" cuz it's a lot cooler than "suffering devil" and it also sounded impactful and also for the sake of completing the four horsemen of apocalypse. Why name the strongest devil "Suffering Devil" when you can called it "Death Devil". it'd pull off the hype much better, i believed. feel free to correct me if there are some mistakes about my "analysis". gotta go to bed now.
In all seriousness, I think a video on fanmade stands (specifically the "Get in the robot" ones) would be genius. Like some of them are pretty intresting and funny
I had a similar though as to "The World Problem" and I rationalized it as that the earliest/strongest Devils let (or even helped) humanity develop into a modern-like setting so that humanity would have more fears thus leading to more devils.
That is a hugeee stretch since most devils are kinda braindead, like i dont imagine a gun devil type devil to say you know what, ill play the late game.
@@mantraki Yeah a lot of that was probably because I was thinking the primordial fears would act like the setting's God Hand & at some point it would all be revealed to lead back to their grand plan or something. But the more I read into Part 2, the more I'm getting the feeling is the feeling its not going to go that way.
death is too quick to be scared of, since it will happen eventually. I feel like it's easier to be afraid of things that cause death rather than death itself.
this is why death devil is the most feared: almost every fear is directly or indirectly tied to the unconscious fear of dying. even physical suffering. this is not just me talking, many psychologists will agree with this thesis.
In regards to the tomato devil: I realized recently that 1 devil can embody multiple fears, the tomato devil probably has aspects of public shaming (notice the eyes) famine (notice the mouths) and of crops going bad (notice the arms)
If the question was not explained then it probably will be explained since the manga haven't ended, I always find it funny when people start nitpicking the story when the story haven't even ended especially with Fujimoto. Also Fujimoto has been creating devils with names that have other meaning than what it seems, with the falling devil not only having the ability to control gravity but also have the ability to cause negative emotions, and the Fire devil not being something like Agni instead have the power to morph people into what they desire representing the burning passion of people instead of just fire, but the devil itself works like fire as the more contractor it have the stronger it gets.
im sure its been said before, but the reason chainsaw is so strong is because they can delete devils from existence (why chainsaw can do that is another question, like you pointed out, but whatever). This makes every devil, quite reasonably, shiver their timbers. hence the power.
I love csms power system cause its so wacky nothing is defined its chaos, I love nen but i love the devils too things dont always have to be laid out, powerscaling isnt everything
As a side note; devils can also get stronger by eating other powerful devils. This is why chainsaw is strong, it’s ability was uniquely suited to eating other devils, so it ended up eating some of the strongest devils in history. The chainsaw’s ability also made it feared most by other devils, which is where most of its fear based strength comes from. Other devils, not humans.
Since the strength of devils correlates to the fear around it, that would likely imply a direct correlation of devil lethality/prevalence to the population of the world. So it would follow to some extent that due to the exponential nature of population growth that devils would only be a "recent" problem. Furthermore the spread of information would be very limited in the time before the technological era, therefore, its would be fair to assume many concepts which become devils may not be very well known. The ones that could qualify as primal fears which don't hinge on the spread of information would then likely be too strong to die in hell. Those are just some of my thoughts which may help to explain a bit of the reasoning behind the historical setting of chainsaw man, regardless, loved the vid hope you do more chainsawman in the future.
Im kind of on board with the death devil being the strongest devil because hes clearly going with a four horseman theme. And additionally, death, unlike suffering, is something that ALL humans have to reckon with. Death is one of the few things no humans can escape Additionally, the weapon devil hybrids are 100% rule of cool
I saw a comment that makes sense to me. That the strength that comes with fear is based off how likely it could be to kill you, so the spider devil, is not all that powerful because not many people fear spiders killing you, and also why death is so strong (obvious reason lol) and why suffering wouldn’t be as strong as death
In medieval times the tomato devil would be pretty powerful because people used to think tomato’s were poisonous. They thought that because they were eating tomatoes on lead plates and be cause tomato’s are acidic they would soak up the lead causing people to die of lead poisoning.
I heard a good theory that the reason why the Chainsaw Devil can delete concepts has to do with the nature of cutting something with a chainsaw. The rotating blade ends up creating sawdust where the original piece of wood that you were slicing once was, effectively deleting it from existence, unlike the nature of separating something and leaving two full halves. This concept is then extrapolated onto the abilities of chainsaw man, as it can devour concepts out of existence using the idea of it's brutal separation
the chainsaw devil is feared by other devils because he can erase them, that fear might be why he is so strong. the story also supports this idea, with the fact that the only thing the devils remeber from hell is the chainsaw sound and the devils that were afraid of the chainsaw devil, like the eternity devil or the future devil.
What I find funny is that fuji specifically stated that he left things open ended on purpose in part 1 and I could totally see him using csm or hell to say devils weren't on earth till recently or something else like that
Nah, Fujimoto doesn't have to, some plot holes in the Video has been explained by few details in the Manga. why people can't adapt to Devil Attacks even in the mordern days ? Beause they can't. Use powerful weapons to kill them ? Doesn't matter how many powerful weapons human have invented, Devil are immotal, you kill them, they will rebirth to another place anyways. Build A Biggest Wall to separated Devils ? It's doesn't matter, when they back to human world, they may teleport into that walls anyways, besides, some Devils has Hax Abilities that they could go through Wall or Screw people Mind up from a far. Unlike any other Manga, Devils in CSM is unstopable force, the only thing that human can do against the demons are learn to live with them, capture and control them or kill them repeatively that all.
If it makes you feel better almost all of your grievances have been mentioned in one off dialogue or are meant to be ambiguous to make room for a reveal later
Your last point reminds me of Chu Chu Lovely Muni Muni, which is a 2007 song being sung in a karaoke room (goated chapter btw) even though this series takes place in the late 90s
While this is pure speculation, my main theory is that Pochita had some kinda of relationship with the Death devil unknown to anyone, even Famine and War. But not that it actually is Death or Life or some BS like that. Maybe Pochita just befriended Death. I mean, for the Death Devil it makes way more sense that everything it eats is erased. The death devil could have made a contract with Pochita (I know that contract are between devil and humans but the series is weird enough that this limitation can be avoided, example, the puppet with darkness devil). Also, for death being the strongest... idk, I think it is definitely a tie between Pain/suffering and death, many scary things like spiders are scary because their association with death, other scary things like chainsaws are scary because it's association with Pain. And some things are scary because of both. Is a complicated thing and really subjective, why isn't violence stronger than gun? isn't gun a subpart of violence? I don't really mind chossing Death as the scariest/strongest, even if it isn't in our world it does fit the book of revelations apocalypse vibes for the chainsaw man universe, and it isn't like death isn't actually scary (and maybe in the chainsaw man universe there's concrete proof that no sort of heaven exits, that would add some points to Death)
Very good video, I agree with pretty much all your points Manga spoilers I like to think that the reason we only ever see weapon hybrids is because Makima purposely chose weapon hybrids to use in her collection. Because they're so strong. And the weapon hybrids that hunted Denji (katana, bomb, arrow) happened to be confident enough because they were weapon hybrids. Other types of hybrids likely exist but we never see them because they aren't considered useful or deadly enough. But yeah it would've been nice to actually see other types of hybrids despite that so your point still stands
People only fear suffering because(normally) suffering leaves to death, all fears are Instinctively linked to death that is why he is so strong (I guess)
My dear Chewiedog, it's incredibly simple: What is the most populous organism on the planet by biomass? The tree. And what do trees fear? Why, chainsaws of course! Add in to this that trees are famously cowardly beings and the answer is quite clear. That's why the Chainsaw Devil is so strong, and also the reason why the Dutch Elm Disease Devil hasn't been used yet - you've got to save a powerhouse like that for the property's later life.
I think the idea of the chainsaw demon being so powerful (and so much scarier than something like spiders) is that people are generally most afraid of being confronted directly with physical violence. If you were confronted with a spider in front of you, and then confronted with a man approaching you with a running chainsaw, one of them might intimidate you a little more than the other. That’s why weapons like chainsaws, samurai sword, and gun demon are so broken. People are afraid of ghosts, but they don’t often feel any repercussions of that fear, but with physical violence that could have a very real impact on your life.
Alright so chainsaw devil probably is so strong because it went rampage and got extremely feared of at some time. However I do agree that their name and existence disappearing doesn't make sense. Also with the weapon hybrid contract thing, it just makes sense that they could get used as a hybrid because they can be used as a normal weapon.
My theory on chainsawmans erasure is that, because he was the “hero of hell”, known for killing devils- this granted him the ability. It also explains why he’s so strong, the series even mentions that he’s the “devil feared most by devils”. The chainsaw devil, and chainsawman gets most of their power FROM the feat it elicits from devils. And what would devil fear manifest as, according to Fujimoto- who says death is the most powerful fear? An ending to their life. But devils can’t traditionally die, because they are resurrected. So what if the devils fear of chainsawman transformed into a fear of their life ending… for real. So the chainsaw got the ability to erase devils, from the fact that it’s the devil that is feared most by devils. And the greatest fear for humanity, which creates devils, IS death. The true kind. It checks out in my brain anyway. Great video!!
In a world where Devils can be hiding or just appear anywhere I'm pretty sure the fear of dying in any sort of way would be pretty high and that's not taking into account the survival instinct view.
I argue the Vampire Devil was already shown. In the Hero of Hell double-spread, there's a flayed devil with giant fangs. Likely a reference to Vlad Tepes' muscle-like armor from the film, Bram Stoker's Dracula.
I think it would have made more sense if the Spider Devil was a fiend. Both it and Violence are some of the 'strongest' fears so it makes sense for Public Safety to keep them neutered. But yes, Fujimoto's fear scaling does check out in broad strokes but when you look at it closely it really is full of inconsistencies.
Also, with the death devil and csm, both of those are most likely just in context of the series, csm is feared by devils and death probably comes from the mayhem that devils cause and people fearing their own random deaths
i would definitly say that death is the most feared "thing". Most of the other more prominent and strong devils get there powerd due to the existence of death.
7:31 Pochita became strong because in addition to being feared by humans he was feared by Devils as well, this increased his power several times. This is due to the inexplicable power to erase concepts by devouring the Devil who embodies it. How does he have this power? Why does he have this power? I have no idea and probably no one else does, except Fujimoto.
i have watched this whole video only to listen to my favorite outro music but what i get at the end?!?😡😡 I'm very disappointed chewie! i will cry tonight!
Fiends are weaker than the Devil counterparts. When Power returns as a "full" devil, she is leagues stronger than before. The only people that maintain their devil powers are hybrids like Denji, Reze and Asa.
the spider devil was immediately put up against super strong devils and never got a chance to show off her true strength. Also, there is a lot of speculation that pochita, the chainsaw devil, is actually the consumption devil (one of the primal fears in chainsaw man)
I will say a good amount of these things seem, like something Fujimoto hasnt quite explained yet, hope he does at some point, this is a pretty long comment 💀 -SPOILERS- for example, how do hybrids become hybrids we know Denji made a contract with Pochits to become one but Katana Man, said he was able to after a organ transplant with the Katana Devil which doesnt seem like much of a contract, hes the only one who completely benefits out of it,Reze is implied to have been a government experiment, so we could assume she undergone something similar and apart from them, we dont know how the hybrids obtained their devil powers, and another thing is the hybrids seem to be able to ignore the rules of the power system? Lile everytime we seem them, their power seems to come down to how much experience they have in the in their devil forms, the only real evidence we have of this is the chainsaw man, when people started to praise him as hero by the end of part 1 even up to part 2, the fact that their was less fear around the chainsaw man didnt seem to affect Denji at all, but Pochita took over, the actual Chainsaw Devil, it did infact have inpact on him, ws Makima pointed out he was noticable weaker due to the praise he was recieving, I do hope Futanari explains this at some point, one thing i will add into the plot holes series, but its a bit more of question: is Nayuta.... Her existence seems complicated, like I doubt that much time passes when Denji snacks on Makina, and him meeting Nayuta, so how is she already a child? Does that mean Horse woman can take on whatever age they want or do they age like normal humans, ok it was kinda answered as we saw Nayuta has a grown a bit older in part 2, but should she have started as a baby, when reincarnated? This kinda just spirals to a bunch of different questions like are horse woman randomly reincarnate in someone else bodies, or are they separate entities like are they just born into any normal family, until the horse woman personna take over... I'm soo confused... 💀, hope Fuji explains this to
@kujoova those aren't plot holes. Most of these aren't answers for obvious story reasons. Fujimoto simply just didn't explain them YET. Like the series is still going
I think I saw some explanation that weapon devils are just easy to become hybrids because they are easier to control or something because well they are weapons
I never bought the "there are plenty of people who genuinely don't fear death" idea for why death shouldn't be the strongest devil. MANY people say they don't fear death until they have a moment in their life where their impending death is right in front of them. Even if they tough it out and put on a courageous act, it's more than likely that they are feeling internally afraid of dying, even if they don't show it outwardly. It's in human nature not to want to die. That's why humans have so many instictive responses to help prevent death, pain being one of those.
If i'm going to be honest, the way the power scaling works is probably not how many people fear it but more of how they fear it killing them. So something like a chainsaw would be terrifying to die to, but a spider isn't feared by people because well c'mon its a spider.
My main complaint with chainsaw is if there is a katana and sword devil/hybrid why is there only 1 gun devil? Also it's implied that War Devil/Yoru got weaken by Pochita eating pieces of her which also implies how ww2 got erased(unless ww2 is it's own devil which means events and groups of people can have their own devils). If that is the case it is going to feel odd if/when chainsaw man pukes out the existence of nukes whether it would be it's own devil or give Reze a power up. Also where is reze in part 2? Lady literally gave Denji the idea to go to school(set up for part 2) and her actions lead to chainsaw man getting leak which resulted in the kick off of the international just hasn’t shown up.
I watched the anime though didn’t read the manga so I can only imagine what the Ocean Devil could look like in this universe, it does make sense that catching a bullet is a very strong fear but I live in Europe where you only see guns on policemen, so thalassophobia is the next big thing, it’s one of the most anxiety-inducing things, this Devil would be CRAZY powerful even if many people aren’t actively afraid of the sea, because the sea has it all: unbreathable, dark, cold, unknown, unpredictable. I have a theory that there can be Devils created from less common fears that are as strong as those coming from tangible fears because they feed off instinctual aversions.
Fujimoto still could’ve had weapon devils, but like instead of specific weapons like spears, whips, and flame throwers, there could’ve been weapon devils based on more common objects that are feared like needles or something.
A few quick things:
The Spider Devil never really got a chance to do anything strong.
Asa/Yoru is just a Fiend with highly intact brain, so Asa and Yoru can take turns controlling the body.
this entire comment is my exact thoughts
To add to the spider devil part, she was being controlled by makima the whole time so she might have been intentionally weakened in order to fit in with the fiends
Fictional characters and people could definitely become devils. If i made a thanos figure and made a bunch of thanos horror movies and started a thanos worshipping cult, we could make it work fr.
When you talk about how "Feared" a devil is... How do you measure fear? Through total amount of fear, or percentage of fear?
Would Makima be stronger or weaker when slavery existed?
Slavery would make her feared by a higher percentage of people
But, there would be billions less people to fear her.
Was it ever said asa/yoru were a fiend? If yes, link source please I want to see.
@@snekksuperior ob regards to the last part, it hasn't been confirmed officially as far as I know but it's pretty much the in-between of hybrid and fiend although leaning more on the latter than the former
Think of a fiend as a forced contract, if the devil allows more of their power to remain on the vessel they might gain the memories or personality of what inhabited it, that's why the violence devil has so many of his host's memories but needs his power to be suppressed at all times, it also explains why power, a devil who's fiend form retains little to nothing from her host save for her appearance, has so little power
In exchange for asa to have full control of yoru's powers yoru can inhabit asa's body
The nerding is crazy. I agree though.

How did he get the power to fully kill devils in the first place?@@o-agiza3711
That makes sense. Spiders wouldn't be feared by pretty much anything except humans. Where as guns are feared by all living things.
And also he's literally the only thing that can kill a devil for good. That's pretty scary
@@imjustherefortehlulz I think the reason he can kill devils forever is because they all fear him so much
Yeah i thought that too
@@TD-iy8us same
I have a 3 personal theories that might explain the spider devil being weak.
Therefore it’s busted and can solo top tiers but ended up with the Jogo treatment and never got to prove it.
as the spidoat faced the fraud of horseman, makima she scurried "stand proud makima you are grooming"
It’s maybe not maby
Finally, some good theory. First one makes a lot of sense.
By that logic darkness devil would be weak since we have an instinctive fear of it
@@niggasmoker89 Maybe though the fear of the unknown is not only instinctual and kinda busted, the fear of spiders at worst is it pouncing at you which you can see coming the fear of the unknown can literally be anything our imagination comes up with so the darkness devil has a lot of verity, we understand what a spider is so that fear could just be instinctual, we don’t understand or know what the fear of the unknown is if we’re in the dark we might hear someone scream and that won’t only be instinctual fear but our imagination that builds upon that since we can imagine a high verity of stuff happening to us after that because we can’t perceive what’s gonna happen.
Chainsaws were originally used for childbirth. But it is also associated with horror and violent death(Also they were used for amputations). So the Chainsaw is both closely related to Death and Birth and gets a power that allows him to remove devils from the cycle of death and rebirth
Chainsaws were originally used for birth? Where’d u get that information? Lol
@@soultheconfusing9563 Google. look up the original chainsaw
@@soultheconfusing9563 look up "why were chainsaws invented" we live in 2024 this isnt the 90's like chainsawman
For the weapon devil thing it could be explained that since weapons are man made and used by humans that they are more attracted to hybrid contracts than other devils and that it’s just something ingrained into them without them even knowing it or realizing it
by this logic any other hand tools would be able to have hybride contracts, but only weapons are feared enough to be powerful.

I'd love to see a suffering devil tho
Also i found ur channel like 2 days ago and i gotta say keep cooking bro 🔥
I personally think the whole “Erase Concepts from existence by eating them” would fit much better with the “Death Devil”
"Fujimoto, this is crazy. You are crazy"
Yeah, man, welcome to the party
**The cockroach devil appear** "one of the most powerfull devil in the entire world"
7:56 The fears include from the devils too I guess
And actually I heard of other negative emotions can also counts into how strong a devil can be.
You could argue the spider devil was weakened and not at full potential due to Makima and then fought one of the like 5 strongest devils ever in the darkness devil
i think this video is very well made and brings up really good points, but i gotta say i think reasonable theories exist for most of them:
my biggest stretch is that i think the reason the chainsaw devil is so feared is because humans don't really fear it: devils do. we know that they actively hunted devils in hell, and we know devils have fears, so it's pretty reasonable to conclude that those fears feed into other devils. So if they just kept throwing themselves at devils, they'd get more and more feared, and the idea that specifically chainsaws scare devils so much could lead to the powers it gets. again big stretch but it's my best bet
the fear of death being the most powerful, even in our own world is a reasonable claim, but in universe it gets even worse. we know for a proven fact that there IS an afterlife, but it's ONLY hell. dying would be a lot less comforting if it means you get sent to the place where all of humanities fears live.
the weapon devils could be that weapons are more feared when wielded? like regardless of your fear of swords, someone armed with a sword is scarier then one sitting on a stand.
spiders would be significantly weaker if they were getting kill stolen by devils
humanities past could be a lot better if it was hard for devils to gain fear? like, tomatoes aren't scary already, but if they're only growing in a certain region then even less people would be scared of them. that's not even touching the higher birth rates of today leading to more people scared
i think these are all loose theories, and i do think these all constitute valid plot holes, but it's fun to theory craft answers to them
Yeah if a 10 year old was able to kill the tomato devil with a little chainsaw,
Some trained swordsmen would be able to do better back in ancient rome
Wait where did this come in
Where is it mentioned that the devil's strength is based on their location?
'My source is that I made it the fuck up!'
It makes sense though like foxes are feared in the west but the fox devil is pretty powerful
I'm pretty sure the author literally did watch Texas Chainsaw a just decided to make the chainsaw the most powerful devil
I feel like it's easier to be afraid of things that cause death rather than death itself.
this is why death devil is the most feared: almost every fear is directly or indirectly tied to the unconscious fear of dying. even physical suffering. this is not just me talking, many psychologists will agree with this thesis.
eeeeeexactly
In regards to the tomato devil: I realized recently that 1 devil can embody multiple fears, the tomato devil probably has aspects of public shaming (notice the eyes) famine (notice the mouths) and of crops going bad (notice the arms)
Bro I haven’t even thought about this, amazing catch!
Death is one of the few things no humans can escape
Additionally, the weapon devil hybrids are 100% rule of cool
I saw a comment that makes sense to me. That the strength that comes with fear is based off how likely it could be to kill you, so the spider devil, is not all that powerful because not many people fear spiders killing you, and also why death is so strong (obvious reason lol) and why suffering wouldn’t be as strong as death
In medieval times the tomato devil would be pretty powerful because people used to think tomato’s were poisonous. They thought that because they were eating tomatoes on lead plates and be cause tomato’s are acidic they would soak up the lead causing people to die of lead poisoning.
You literaly just said my thoughts loudly bro thank you
If these are your thoughts you should really pay attention to the manga more 💀
I heard a good theory that the reason why the Chainsaw Devil can delete concepts has to do with the nature of cutting something with a chainsaw.
I was skeptical when I saw the video title, but I do agree with all of these complaints especially the idea of the death devil being the final boss.
"Is there an Agni Devil"
Ahaaaa what a funny joke!
15 chapters.
fire punch was insanity at its finest
I assumed that yes only weapon devils could make hybrid contracts, also Pochita is definitely the forgotten devil or something.
the chainsaw devil is feared by other devils because he can erase them, that fear might be why he is so strong. the story also supports this idea, with the fact that the only thing the devils remeber from hell is the chainsaw sound and the devils that were afraid of the chainsaw devil, like the eternity devil or the future devil.
Unlike any other Manga, Devils in CSM is unstopable force, the only thing that human can do against the demons are learn to live with them, capture and control them or kill them repeatively that all.
that mathematician, dreamy line was so good
If it makes you feel better almost all of your grievances have been mentioned in one off dialogue or are meant to be ambiguous to make room for a reveal later
My ideal power system: Clearcut suggestions, no rules.
well crazy how no one said this, but the chainsaw devil get the power from the fear from other devils, including humans. That's why it's so op
Good day when Chewie uploads

Glad to see a CSM vid, last critique is goofy tho
All of them are goofy lol
Very good video, I agree with pretty much all your points
Manga spoilers
I like to think that the reason we only ever see weapon hybrids is because Makima purposely chose weapon hybrids to use in her collection.
Odds are dreamy but that’s the point its a fictional story where fujimoto can write whatever he wants cuz it’s friggin awesome
Babe wake up, ChewieDog1 just posted
I feel like the death devil segment was calling something a plot hole based on a headcanon you have on people in the real world.

I mean, the Death Devil would be more feared in a world where you could brutally die any second.
Bro, let Fujimoto cook. You gotta wait
Likely a reference to Vlad Tepes' muscle-like armor from the film, Bram Stoker's Dracula.
the chainsaw devil could be the fear of being forgetten bro

pochita is the death devil it’s been foreshadowed so much so far and chainsaws make sense for a death devil design
I think it would have made more sense if the Spider Devil was a fiend. Both it and Violence are some of the 'strongest' fears so it makes sense for Public Safety to keep them neutered.
But yes, Fujimoto's fear scaling does check out in broad strokes but when you look at it closely it really is full of inconsistencies.
my head canon has always been that the reason that the Chainsaw Devil is so strong is because so many devils fear it
I'm so glad you made a csm video :)
Love your content bro
The dissing of devilman is crazy
Also, with the death devil and csm, both of those are most likely just in context of the series, csm is feared by devils and death probably comes from the mayhem that devils cause and people fearing their own random deaths

havent read chainsawman, does the heights devil exist? like you know, fear of heights and shi
The isn't a height devil but there is the falling devil which make sense since people are more afraid of the risk of falling then just the height
oh my god such a good video
tysm!
7:31 Pochita became strong because in addition to being feared by humans he was feared by Devils as well, this increased his power several times. This is due to the inexplicable power to erase concepts by devouring the Devil who embodies it. How does he have this power? Why does he have this power? I have no idea and probably no one else does, except Fujimoto.
i have watched this whole video only to listen to my favorite outro music but what i get at the end?!?😡😡
I'm very disappointed chewie! i will cry tonight!
Also, there is a lot of speculation that pochita, the chainsaw devil, is actually the consumption devil (one of the primal fears in chainsaw man)
CONGRATS FOR 100K!!!
Chainsaw devil has more than one fear erasure ability makes him really strong .
I will say a good amount of these things seem, like something Fujimoto hasnt quite explained yet, hope he does at some point, this is a pretty long comment 💀
-SPOILERS-
for example, how do hybrids become hybrids we know Denji made a contract with Pochits to become one but Katana Man, said he was able to after a organ transplant with the Katana Devil which doesnt seem like much of a contract, hes the only one who completely benefits out of it,Reze is implied to have been a government experiment, so we could assume she undergone something similar and apart from them, we dont know how the hybrids obtained their devil powers, and another thing is the hybrids seem to be able to ignore the rules of the power system? 💀, hope Fuji explains this to
Plot holes like the ones he pointed out would be extremely hard to explain.
Plot holes like the ones he pointed out would be extremely hard to explain.
@kujoova those aren't plot holes. Most of these aren't answers for obvious story reasons. Fujimoto simply just didn't explain them YET. Like the series is still going
I’m scared of ketchup
😢 the tomato devil has haunted my family for generations
Yay my Pookie bear uploaded another Chainsaw Man video❤
Already know this is a banger
13:56 was the best part of the video ngl
Could be that the fear of being forgotten devil was weak and just fell into the chainsaw devils lap and had to make a contract
I am incredibly terrified by tomatoes so this seriously offended me. Be better man…
I watched the anime though didn’t read the manga so I can only imagine what the Ocean Devil could look like in this universe, it does make sense that catching a bullet is a very strong fear but I live in Europe where you only see guns on policemen, so thalassophobia is the next big thing, it’s one of the most anxiety-inducing things, this Devil would be CRAZY powerful even if many people aren’t actively afraid of the sea, because the sea has it all: unbreathable, dark, cold, unknown, unpredictable.
