    My favourite album and documentary! And a bit of recognition deserved for Alan Wilder for being the one who video recorded the making of the album. As if he didn't do enough in the studio, he was also documenting the process on video and was responsible for some really well composed footage.

      no, it was just a balance between their roles, Martin great song composer and mood creator, Dave's amazing voice and charisma and Alan his amazing work in the studio as sound designer and orchestrator (because of that obviously he need it to spend more time the studio than others), in the case of Andrew less participation indeed, even tho he seems is good on keeping the track of their business aspects

      A manager could do what fletch does. A band needs a musician however just goes to prove a recording will cover his bit on stage.. he's good at clapping and waving.

    Soundwise probably their best album. And thank god no live drums, no 'rock' sound. Gareth Jones (producer) and Alan (Philip Glass influence ) made everything so much more interesting and exciting.

    Blasphemous Rumours and Lie to Me have held up really well thirty years later. The album as a whole, to me, was more a warmup for Black Celebration than anything else. It's a pretty cool snapshot of a moment in time though.

    • @Syfoll
      @Syfoll 3 года назад +7

      Wouldn't surprise me. Dave doesn't play instruments, Fletch only very basic stuff and Martin doesn't have much technique.

    • @Tomversal
      @Tomversal 2 года назад +5

      I personally believe Alan plays most of it with Fletch doing the bass lines (or basic leads, but only usually 1 part that repeats instead of numerous), Martin plays a lot of the quirkier stuff that might be difficult for Alan to sing and play (especially whilst playing 2 other parts)

    • @garethharrison5797
      @garethharrison5797 9 месяцев назад +2

      There is no way that Fletch played live basslines by the time they had got big. It would take someone with absolutely rock solid timing or they would sound awful. The basslines are always locked in. They very obviously aren't played live.

    • @mobius273

      No, theres footage out there of martin recording synth parts

    • @garethharrison5797
      @garethharrison5797 7 месяцев назад +1

      Besides, there are numerous Martin Gore demos pre Violator that suggest that frequently the records that were released were often more high end versions of Martin Gore's own vision for the songs. A good example would be Shake the Disease: almost every synth line in the song is Martin Gore's. Martin Gore played a significant number of parts live, with him and AW, sharing the load, with AW's ability to play two hands independently giving him the larger share of the load.
